I watched "A Word to the Wiseguy" yesterday, then woke up at 6:00 am and couldn't get back to sleep. This idea randomly came to me.

"Congratulations on your new hire, son! Brandi already sounds like Employee of the Year material!" Martin chortled.

Niles, who had stayed for dinner after his tennis game with Frasier, glared at his father. It had been hours since Frasier's attempt to reach Niles through his inept new secretary and Martin still laughed every time he thought of the botched phone call.

"This wouldn't have happened if you'd called in a little...favor with your cop friends!" Niles snapped.

"This should teach you that trying to bend the law has consequences," Martin said, growing more serious.

"I was just trying to fix things with my Maris. And consequences aside, it worked! Did you know, she actually said 'thank you' to me!"

Frasier, who had been focusing on eating around strange green chunks that were scattered through Daphne's attempt at Greek moussaka, looked up at this juncture and cast his brother a disapproving look.

"Do you really want Maris's affections based on what you can do for her?" he asked. "She's using you again, Niles!"

"Oh, shut up, Frasier!" Niles burst out. "If you hadn't given Brandi such hasty advice after one phone call, I wouldn't have a dodo for a secretary right now!"

Martin glanced between his two sons, wondering if he should intervene...and then sat back and continued his meal. This was more entertaining than television!
