Chapter 1: What Is Keeping Me Here?

Temperance had stood helplessly on the sidelines as Booth and her colleagues/friends bonded closer with Hannah and started to isolate her. They had started out inviting her but those invites had gotten less and less as time went on till the day, she was no longer asked to go out with them and they kept waving her off when she asked if she could join them.

She knew Cam was mad at her for leaving and probably Booth too for breaking his heart. But what about Angela and Hodgins?

She had nobody looking out for her here anymore.

She had no Knight in Shining FBI issue body armour now.

Her Father was travelling the world with his freedom and her Brother had a life of his own now and she didn't want to bother him with her troubles. She had lived so many years without her brother and it didn't feel like they would ever get back to how they were. Her brother had Amy, Hayley and Emma to look after and protect. They should be more important than her. So, she let him be.

Anyway, she had been keeping secrets from her friends and even her estranged family. She had never spoken these secrets to them as it was too dangerous for them to know. And there was a law against No-Maj/Muggles knowing.

She was a witch. A powerful one at that.

When her parents left, she had been just a kid of 10 and her brother was 17. She was put into the Foster Care system and that became her own personal nightmare/hell. Anything and everything that happened around her that was strange and couldn't be explained was blamed on her and she was called her a freak and so many other nasty names. They also called her that because she was smarter than anyone at her school and skipped 2 grades. But every time she showed these strange events she got beaten badly and broken bones seemed to heal overnight. Which didn't help her case with her Foster parents as they started holding food from her.

Then at the age of 11 she got, at the time, a pleasant surprise. She found out she was a witch. A real witch. She had been so excited to finally know why these strange events kept happening to her.

She was accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts Minerva McGonagall explained everything to her and said since she had no family, she would be moved into a Magical Foster Care Family to better handle her needs and to make sure the Magical people weren't discovered.

She was placed in a home in England. It was better than her last few Foster Homes or so she thought at the time.

When she went to Diagon Alley her Foster Parents took her to Gringotts and got her a heritage test and found out she was a descendent of Morgana Le Fey and Salazar Slytherin. So, she would be when she turns 17, Lady of those House and also the house of Bonewood.

She also had an abilities check and it showed she had Ward Sight, was an Elemental and was a Natural Occlumens and Legilimens.

Temperance didn't recognise the gleam in her Foster Parents eye and that had been a huge mistake on her part.

On the Train to Hogwarts, she met friends that would become her friends for life. James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Lily Evans, Frank Longbottom, Alice Blishwick, Pandora Triple, Amelia Bones and so many more.

She was sorted into Ravenclaw of course. Temperance wasn't surprised with that as she had read what each house requirements were and she fit Ravenclaw perfectly. But to her shock the Sorting Hat seriously considered putting her in Slytherin. But Ravenclaw won in the end.

No matter when houses her new friends got sorted into, they promised to stay friends and ignore the invisible boundaries separated the Houses.

She had found joy in most her classes and with History of Magic she studied books that she bought so she didn't listen to Binns droning on and on about the Goblin Rebellions. She found nearly all other Ravenclaws did the same thing.

Their large group of friends were joined by Andromeda Black and Edward Tonks who were 3 years above them. Xenophilius Lovegood who was 2 years above them. Castor and Gellert Greengrass, 1 year above and same grade respectfully.

Time passed quickly and after her 2nd year of Hogwarts she got a nasty surprise from her beloved Foster Parents. They had betrothed her…sold her to a powerful and influential family as one of two brides to the future Lord. And the contract was ironclad and could be only broken if the groom hurt her with the Unforgiveable Curses.

She was stuck and no matter how many books she looked out there was no other way around these contracts. So now her life was tied to the Future Lords and her will be Sister-Wife.

But it was not all bad news. Well, it was depending how you looked at it. Who she was betrothed to was one of her best friends! And her future sister-wife was also one of her best friends!

The young heir's family were known for the Dark Arts much to her dismay. But then again it shouldn't surprise her as her Foster Family was basically into the Dark Arts too.

But the young heir was very much different from his Father and Mother. And over time Temperance had a crush on him since she meet him on the Hogwarts Express. Even when he was eventually disowned their betrothal contract was still active between the three of them.

Temperance worked hard all through her schooling to be the best she could be. She wanted to make her own mark on the Wizarding World in whatever job she choose to do. Her betrothed didn't expect her to be a stay-at-home wife and mother and truly supported any path she might go on in the future.

In 5th year she became Prefect and she was a Chaser on the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team. She took extra classes through books and aced all her OWLS and then her NEWTS.

With her friends she joined the 'Marauders' group. A group of pranksters who always stood up for each other and had each other's backs. And in their 3rd year they decided to become Animagi. Strange thing was when they managed it not only was she the first one to be able to transform all the way. But she also was a Multi Animagus. As a Thestral, Eagle, Lioness and Kitsune. She didn't know how it happened but her friends were a little bit jealous of her ability. But they had to admit those forms were useful. As they roamed Hogwarts of nights of the full moon as they watched over their friend Remus Lupin who was a werewolf.

And on her 18th Birthday she married her betrothed with her new sister-wife. They were bound now for their lifetime. But her new husband said if she wanted to have another lover then he wouldn't stop her as this marriage hadn't been of their own freewill. (Even though they had crushes on each other). So, if she did find someone and if they married it would be under a Consort contract. Meaning that if she wanted another husband, that husband would only be married to her and not her betrothed and sister wife.

The three of them vowed never to betroth their children without their consent.

Her Sister-Wife and Husband joined the Aurors and as for Temperance she had joined the Department of Mysteries as Thanatos and started to go to Muggle University in the States in Forensic Anthropologist and her husband supported her all the way as he didn't want her to get hurt with a war raging on around them. (But he knew she could handle her own). And besides if it gave his dear old mother a heart attack from rage then it was worth it. The trio hated that woman and her husband was only marginally better.

A war led by a madman named Voldemort. The darkest wizard in history. To Temperance's horror her lovely Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law might not be Death Eaters but they heavily supported them.

But they weren't really in-laws since they disowned her husband.

The war was heating up and even in the States Temperance was getting a clear picture of what was happening back home. Her husband pleaded with her to stay in the states. But she didn't listen she went back home to fight every now and then.

Tragedy followed tragedy in the next few years. They lost many friends…

Marlene McKinnon.

Dorcas Meadowes.

Mary Macdonald.

Fabian and Gideon Prewett.

Evan Regulus Black.

And so many others.

Before Voldemort was banished after going after the Potters. Temperance's best friends James and Lily. They died protecting their son Harry…Temperance's and Sirius's Godson.

By the time Temperance found out Harry had been taken to a home where according to Dumbledore he would be safe. She found out Sirius had been arrested for betrayed their friends and killing 12 Muggles and their friend Peter Pettigrew.

And with no proof that he was innocent but he was chucked in Azkaban and there was nothing Temperance or Amelia Bones could do about that as they weren't high enough in the Ministry to convince people that Sirius Black has never and would never be involved with Voldemort.

Temperance feeling helpless fled to the States and Amelia stayed in England. They both had no proof of Sirius's innocence. No evidence of Peter being the traitor. No evidence that Peter was not dead and no evidence that Sirius didn't kill those Muggles. And it didn't help pointing out if a blasting curse killed Pettigrew, then more would be left behind then a finger.

And as far as the pair of them knew was that Sirius had an unfair trial and it won't be for many years, they found out the truth.

That fuelled Temperance's passion for justice and helping victims get their justice served.

Years passed and Temperance got her Doctorate in Forensic Anthropology and many Masteries in the Wizarding World.

7 Years after that night the Potters were killed, she accepted a job offer from the Jeffersonian Institute to work in their Anthropology Department. And she gladly accepted with her Sister-Wife's agreement.

Both of them being very supportive in the others chosen careers. Amelia had risen to the position as Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Only a couple of years later she meets a man that infuriated her at first. A Special Agent Seeley Joseph Booth with the FBI. At that time, she had to admit he was handsome, not in the same way Sirius was of course nobody could ever match Sirius, but he was a handsome. But she didn't know how to trust after everything that had happened in her life up to this point.

So, she turned him down that rainy night that he fired her and they didn't met again till a year later when he got her detained at Airport Security coming back from Guatemala. She had cursed herself for taking Muggle Transportation. But she couldn't let her Muggle friend get suspicious about how she travelled from Washington to Guatemala and then back again.

But to her surprise Booth agreed to have her as a partner out in the field. Over time her feelings for Booth grow even if she didn't want to admit it to anyone or admit it too herself.

Then her brother came back into the picture and she was so angry for a number of reasons. Even though she loved the Magical World. Something she could have avoided if only Russ had stayed. She wouldn't have been beaten in all her Foster homes even her Magical one. If Russ had stayed then she wouldn't have been contracted out like she was an object/property that could be sold. Even though she loved her husband and sister-wife. It was not the same of having the freewill to say no to the marriage.

So, she was angry at Russ for many reasons and in a span of days she found out her Mother was murdered and her bones were in Limbo at the Jeffersonian Institute and she had to identify them. And she found out her Father was alive after all.

It made her so mad she destroyed the training dummies in the Department of Mysteries training room at MACUSA.

Then only a few months later her Father came back into the picture and then promptly abandoned her again and taking Russ with him. So much for Russ's promise to not abandon her again!

The training room at MACUSA didn't survive that episode.

Spending a couple of weeks with her sister-wife and the few friends that survived the war helped her to calm down and compartmentalized everything that happened. She seeing how Sirius had escaped Azkaban a year ago it was worth the trouble of transatlantic portkeys.

Everything just came to quickly after that.

Booth getting shot and her believing him to be dead. She felt like the world had crashed around her again. She just couldn't deal with losing anymore friends or loved ones.

Then to only find out he was alive…there wasn't words to describe it. She had to hold back drawing her wand and cursing him.

So, after she dealt with Zack, she left for a holiday in Britain to get the nasty surprise of Voldemort's rebirth. The Department of Mysteries working overtime trying to figure out how he was still alive.

Temperance finally met Harry but not for long as Dumbledore wanted her to do a few missions for him and she had two jobs to hold down. Well four if you count being a best-selling author and teacher. Jobs in two worlds. Magical and Muggle. So, finding time for Sirius, Amelia and Harry was a struggle.

But the one thing she could do was bypass Dumbledore with her Department of Mysteries secrets and get messages to Harry and Harry was able to reply back and they had gotten to know each other that way. She had done the same communication with her other Godchildren years earlier; Luna Lovegood, Nymphadora Tonks, Daphne Greengrass and Neville Longbottom. But with those four she at least got to see them grow up.

A couple of weeks after the return of Voldemort her Sirius and Amelia sent her back to the States with a plea to stay away, he told her it was safer. He only said that after she was nearly killed in a duel with Rookwood in the Department of Mysteries. Seeing how she was cursed badly and it would take her ages to replenish her magic and get over the curse so she agreed reluctantly as long as she was kept informed and got a promise from Sirius for him not to do anything reckless or stupid.

But life for the next two years was hectic.

Booth getting kidnapped by the Grave Digger and Temperance still unable to use strong magic because of her body still fighting a curse couldn't track him. So, she had to go down the Muggle route to find him.

Luckily, they made it on time.

Barely.

Then Booth's brain tumour and Temperance badly wanted there to be something magic could do to help. But magic didn't work on tumours. So again, Temperance had to follow the Muggle route to help him.

Everything after that time seemed to be off.

After Booth came out of his coma everything was thrown out of balance.

And Sweets and the others weren't helping matters.

When Booth told her to take a chance with him Temperance just couldn't do it. She knew his beliefs and knew he would never accept her way of life. Thus, not allowing them to ever be together. She tried to let him down as gently as she could. But she could see she didn't do it well enough. But she had let him go so he could have a happier life with the freewill to choice a better woman. A woman that could give him marriage. She saw it as setting him free.

They went their separate ways.

Booth to Afghanistan and her not to Maluku but to England to help with the war and thankfully she managed to save Sirius's life. Afterall Death Magic and the Veil was her speciality, along with many others. But it nearly gave her a heart attack and she only barely managed to save him and whisk him away before he was seen by anyone in the Ministry and arrest and kissed.

Getting called back to Washington was a surprise but after talking with her Friends, Husband and Sister-Wife in England she was going to try and work things out with Booth.

But she found out Booth had moved on.

And she decided not to interfere with that.

But now that decision and the decisions before that one lead her to this point of being all alone. She watched them like she was an intruder looking in on a happy family.

Nothing was the same anymore and she don't anything would be the same again. She just felt like she was intruding on everyone's lives now.

Nobody asked her how she was anymore.

Nobody pulled her out of Limbo anymore.

Nobody visited her anymore.

Nobody included her in anything anymore.

Nobody forced her to eat anymore and skipping meals.

Nobody cared about her anymore.

For crying out loud she was working more with Agent Charlie Burns or Agent Genny Shaw or Agent Payton Perotta then Booth now or not going murder cases at all! Those three Agents saw something was wrong but Temperance told them just to leave it alone.

Booth didn't even care that she was hurt a few weeks ago and wore a sling for two weeks to avoid suspicion.

Nobody saw her anymore.

"What am I still doing here?" Temperance murmurs to nobody as she entered her apartment, closing the door and sliding down the door.

Her familiars coming over snuggling into her trying to provide comfort for their Mistress.

"What is keeping me to this Muggle life when I have a loving Husband, Sister-Wife and loving Friends in England fighting for their lives?" Temperance asks them, "And a husband clearly willing to have a child with me..."

It seemed like the universe answered as a Barn Owl flies in through her window. She took the envelope and saw the familiar crest of her Husband and Sister-Wife sealing the letter.

The one and only…

Sirius Orion Black III.

Lord of the Most Ancient and Most Noble House of Black…

And

Lady Amelia Black-Bones of the Most Ancient and Most Noble House of Bones, Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and now it seems Minister for Magic…
