In 1001 A.D. four legged beasts lurked among humans, only showing their true forms at the time of the moon's fullest phase.
The existence of these very beasts frightened those in the village, a particular witch and her husband were no exception, their youngest son having fallen victim to the blood thirsty wolves that appeared monthly.
To protect their remaining children – a daughter and four sons – the witch performed a spell, her husband killing their five children after giving them wine laced with the blood of a doppelganger.
Upon their awakening, they were to drink the blood of a human or perish.
Their father saw to it they fed, and thus survived, whilst the spell of their mother – conjured from dark magic – ensured they would continue to survive for all eternity.
Abominations created purely out of fear.
As fate would have it, cruel with its games, one of their sons would accidentally trigger the curse of the moon by killing his first victim in the midst of satisfying his hunger for blood.
Creating the first of his kind, a hybrid – conceived of a werewolf and a witches sin, but born of forbidden magic and a mother and father consumed with worry for their children.
Seeing who he'd thought was his blood son turn into the same monster that had stolen the life of his youngest son, their mother's affair had been revealed to their father, fueling the hatred he long felt for the young man.
It was then the witch bound her son in his own flesh.
Niklaus, my love and the living embodiment of his mother's betrayal, would not have access to the part of himself that was gifted unto him by his birth father...nor the power that existing as such a being would surely reap.
Until now.
