Chapter One

Callie sighed looking up at the apartment building that was going to be her new home. Her father, Poseidon, had given to her enough money - according to him, it was overdue child support - to live where ever she wanted comfortably for the rest of her life. She had chosen to move to Gotham, it was close enough to Olympus and Camp Half Blood that if she was truly needed, she could get there within a day, but also far enough that she could blend in with the mortals and use the city to kind of mask her presence from monsters.

Kind of like how her mother had used Gabe when she was younger, only on a larger scale. Callie felt a pang fill her heart at the thought of her beloved mother. Nico had made sure that her mother - Sally, her step-father Paul, and her unborn sibling made it into Elysium. Callie had just arrived in Gotham that morning after getting the last of the things she wanted from the apartment in New York and sending it ahead using Hermes Express. Now it was just her, her car that her father had also gifted her, and a small bag of essentials. She had just parked her car in the enclosed parking lot and in her parking spot and had been stood in front of the building for a hot minute just observing the place that was to be her home for next foreseeable future.

Sighing again, she readjusted her bag on her shoulder and walked towards the entrance. She entered and saw that despite of the slightly rundown outward appearance, the apartment interior seemed to be in good condition.

"Hello, may I help you?" Callie turned and saw a man sitting behind a glass wall with a speaker and a sign overhead that read 'Landlord & Maintenance'.

Callie smiled at him as she stepped up to the window.

"Hello, I'm Callie Jackson. New resident for apartment 821. I was told that you would have my keys for me?"

"Ah, yes. Miss Jackson. Here are your keys: two to your apartment, a passcode to get in through the front door as once it turns dark the doors are automatically locked and don't unlock until sunrise unless you have the passcode, a key fob for the elevator as you will need it in order for the elevator to open to your floor, and your mailbox key. Here is also your information packet that includes nearest restaurants, emergency services, the number for maintenance, number for security, and number for the landlord. Any questions?"

Callie was slightly shocked at the security measures that were in place here but was also comforted. Hopefully they will come through on all that they are promising.

"Why so many security measures, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Wayne Enterprises owns the apartment block and so they take security very seriously. Gotham is dangerous with all of the supervillains, crooks, and thieves that Mr Wayne tries to make it a bit easier for others to live peacefully where he can."

"Well, if you can, give my thanks to Mr Wayne. I come from New York and I don't think they take security this seriously."

"Let me tell you this… New York has nothing on Gotham."

Huh, interesting. Callie thought to herself. "Well, thank you, good sir, for your assistance. I hope you have a good day!"

"You as well, Miss Jackson."

Callie moved over to the elevators and pushed the button to go up, getting in, she turned to face the doors and pushed the button for the eighth floor. The elevator started moving.

"Please scan key fob now." An automated voice said over the speaker. Callie placed her key fob against a black square in the middle of the elevator numbers and a light turned green. The doors opened and Callie stepped out, walking down to apartment 821.

The apartment was at the opposite end - of course it was, that's how it always is. The good thing is that the stair well was literally one apartment down from her. With a deep breath she shifted her keys to grab the correct one when the apartment door between her and the stairs opened.

She looked over in reflex and saw a tall, broad shouldered man wearing a hoody with faded print and a motorcycle helmet walking out. His intense blue eyes met her own as Callie froze for a second.

"Can I help you?" He asked gruffly.

Callie shook herself. "Uh, no, no thanks. You just startled me, sorry. Looks like we're neighbors, I'm just moving in." Callie extended the hand that wasn't holding her keys to shake his hand. "I'm Callie."

He eyed her hand as if it were a snake getting ready to strangle him. He grunted and just brushed by her. Callie dropped her hand with a sigh. Of course, she would get a grump of a neighbor. But she shrugged her shoulders and finally unlocked her door and stepped in for the first look at her new home.

She reached over and turned the lights on, stepping through and shutting and locking her door behind her. Her eyes roamed over everything. The front door opened up to the living room that was completely furnished - also courtesy of her father.

Right when you walked in was a coat and shoe rack and then to her immediate left was a love seater, an L-shaped couch, two arm chairs and foot rests, a coffee table, and three side tables placed beside the two chairs and love seater - all the color blue and all on top of a long cream colored rug. To the right of that was a fire place that she knew she would take full advantage of as the weather was already turning a bit chilly. In the far corner was a pool table with a que rack, a media bookcase for dvds, playstation, etc. and then a large TV. In the last corner was what looked light a poker table with two old fashioned chair.

Heading out of double French doors into a long hallway, Callie immediately turned right into the kitchen and about died on the spot. The kitchen was literally to die for! She had two islands in the middle that were curved and almost connected into a circle, four barstools on one side, a large fridge, double ovens, a large stove, and more counter space than she thought possible. Leaving the kitchen she turned right once again through a single French door and found the laundry room.

After exploring the laundry room, she moved down the hall to the bathroom and saw that it must be just a guest bathroom because there was only a toilet and sink, no shower or bath. Across the hall she moved through another set of French double doors and into the large dining room. A large eight person dining table sat in the middle, two curio cabinets that contained all of the dishes her mother had passed down through the family and dishes her step-mother gifted to her, a cabinet full of precious memorable things like pictures of her family and friends. Then on the other side was what looked to be a fully stocked bar area. The dining room was also the only room to have two sets of French double doors.

Across the hall from that, she entered what she first thought was the office. But on a second glance, it looked to be an office/gaming area. One corner had an office booth with an iMac already on it for anything important she might need to work on. Then on the other side was where she was being drawn. Looked like she had three arcade machines, a akee-ball machine, a gaming center already filled with playstation, xbox, nintendo, etc., games with two blue and black gaming chairs in front of it. Then there was also a gaming chair set up in front of a long gaming monitor.

Geez. Her father was really laying his spoiling on thick.

She also saw a white futon and bookshelf by the office side before she left the moved down the hall and looking both ways saw that there was only a door left.

Walking into the bedroom, Callie gasped loudly. There was a makeup stand in one corner, a futon in the opposite, a California king size platform bed with night stands on either side, two royal blue bed stools, a egg chair in the far corner, a royal blue slight curved couch in front of her bed and tv stand. Then there looked to be double doors to a balcony and looked like two doors to a master bathroom and walk-in closet. Walking into the bathroom first, she noticed the massive jacuzzi tub and shower first thing. Then the massive sink and bench. Moving onto the next room which was her closet, she couldn't help her first words.

"It's like I have my own mall."

She moved back to her bed and just flopped down onto it with a big sigh, releasing all of the tension she had been holding in. As she drifted off to sleep, she couldn't help her last thought.

She knew that she was ready for Gotham… but was Gotham ready for Callie?
