For Her

Had it really been about the potential dangers of altering the plan? Had it really been about Seven, or Tom, or Belanna, or Naomi, or Icheb? Had it really been about two crews becoming one family, or making some positive impacts on the Delta Quadrant? These were all good, true reasons.

But no, he decided. It was about her. It always had been, and it always would be, about the woman who sat across from him now, her eyes still sparkling with curiosity and her cheeks a bit flushed from having too much cider, that beautiful smile lighting up her features as she laughed softly. It was about the atmosphere of strength, hope, and certainty she exuded, which he drew from when he felt unable to keep pressing toward the goal, and about the purpose in life she provided him, which gave him peace. It was about preserving the easy friendship they had formed over the years and now shared, to the point where they knew each other so well and trusted each other so deeply, where each could simply enjoy the other's company in treasured moments like these. It was about the fact that he couldn't bear to imagine what his life would be like without her in it.

Every other reason paled in comparison to her, and this was why he had been so against realigning the ship with the past. It would have erased this future that he loved so much. Perhaps, it was selfish, considering that they and the crew certainly had endured so much. But, although it was true there were some lines they might never cross, right now, he decided that it was all still worth it, even if only for her.
