Summary: As a university professor in London, Kagome specializes in the study of human behavior and psychology. She's done what she can to abandon her past far behind her. Her involvement in one of Scotland Yard's cases put her on Sherlock's radar. She can't determine if it's a good or bad thing. Meanwhile, the abrasive consulting detective can't read her, and it's driving him mad.

Pairing: Sherlock/Kagome

Prologue: The Crossing of Paths

As the class came to an end, the sounds of people picking up and sorting through their things grew louder. At the same time, the raven-haired woman stayed at the desk in the front, her laptop open before her. She was on what she was doing, but not too much that she failed to notice the aura approaching her.

It'd been loitering just outside the room for the better part of an hour, seeming to wait for the class to come to an end to avoid any interruptions. She didn't bother to look up as footsteps came to a halt beside the desk she sat at, but she didn't ignore them entirely.

"Hello," Kagome remarked softly. "I was wondering when you'd come in," she stated, forgoing any context of explanation as to how she knew he was there in the first place. She felt the surprise in his aura, and she waited for him to speak as she checked her e-mail.

"You knew I was standing out there the whole time?" he asked, jutting his thumb to the door. She didn't look to see where he was pointing, but she still nodded in response. "The door's been closed. Did someone tell you ahead of time then?"

She shook her head. "Don't be silly," she mused softly. "Even if they had, I wouldn't have checked my phone in the middle of the lesson unless it actually mattered," she stated. She finished up what she was doing on her laptop and shut it. She lifted her gaze up to his face, bright blue eyes landing on his face. She threaded her fingers together and rested her chin on them. "Now," she sighed, "what did you need, Mister...-"

"Lestrade," he supplied to her. As he did, he held a hand out to her. She accepted it with a faint nod. "Greg Lestrade. I'm with Scotland Yard."

Kagome tilted her head to the side in curiosity. "Oh," she remarked. "May I know what brings you here, then? Has anything happened?"

"Nothing that you should necessarily worry about," he responded. It didn't satisfy her curiosity, however. "You specialize in human behavior and psychology," he stated, and she nodded. "It'd be a big help if you could offer some insight on a case."

Kagome furrowed her brows, a look of confusion flashing across her face. "What makes you think that I have the capability of doing that?" she questioned. "I don't typically go around getting involved in stuff like this."

"A friend who seemed to know you quite well recommended you, actually," Lestrade said. Kagome's frown deepened.

"What friend?"

What friend did she have that he could possibly know? Let alone know about what she could do…?

"Sesshomaru," Lestrade said. He sounded like he was second-guessing him on his name, and she felt her expression fall.

"What's that jerk doing in town this time?" Kagome deadpanned.

"So you do know him?" Lestrade asked, and she nodded.

"He's my brother and a politician in Japan," she remarked drly. "What's he doing offering me up like this?"

Lestrade chuckled at her dry tone. "You know, he said you'd get like that at the mention of his name." Kagome rolled her eyes.

"'Course he did," she grumbled under her breath. "What kind of help do you need?" she sighed after a second. Lestrade looked at her.

"So you'll help out?"

Kagome nodded in the face of his question. As insufferable as the demon was, she knew he wouldn't do something like this unless it truly called for her. He didn't like wasting time, and he wouldn't do the same to her. "There's gotta be a reason if he's having you reach out to me like this," she mumbled, rubbing at her eyes with her hands. "Let's talk."

It was almost a full week later when she got another unexpected visitor. He was the opposite of Lestrade. He came into the room at the tail-end of her lecture, lingering in the back as he observed her.

She knew that's what he was doing. She ended up returning the favor- all the while not breaking her focus on what she was saying. It wasn't long until she'd finished up, letting those in her class leave as she made her way to her desk. She didn't acknowledge the unfamiliar man present, figuring he'd invite himself over when he decided. After a minute, her hypothesis proved to be correct, and he came over to where she was.

"Hello." She glanced up as he got close enough, blue eyes meeting a unique shade somewhere between blue and green. She eyed him closely, taking the liberty to return his own gesture. "What do I owe this meeting?"

"Last week you offered your hand in a case of the Scotland Yard," he stated. It was no question, and it wasn't meant to come across as one. Kagome shrugged before she gave a faint nod.

"I suppose you're right," she mused softly. "That I did," she confirmed. "Can't really see how it matters to you."

"Thanks to the likes of you, it was resolved quite quickly," he remarked. Kagome gave a faint hum of acknowledgment before she turned, almost dismissively, to her laptop. She didn't see why this even mattered.

"Oh," she stated, tone flat. "Well, I'm glad," she said. The way in which she spoke didn't reveal how she felt. She glanced at him from the corner of her eye, surveying him with a perceptive glance. "You have yet to tell me your name, by the way."

"The name is Sherlock Holmes," he finally relented and gave in to her inquiry. She nodded and glanced back at the screen in front of her. He took a step towards her, and, while she didn't look at him, he noticed her take account of it.

The longer he observed her, the more confused he got. Nothing about her seemed as it should.

"Staring won't get you the answers you want, Mr. Holmes," she mused softly. Her voice broke the silence that'd built up. Her expression betrayed nothing. She turned in her chair to look at him, crossing her legs and resting her hands on her lap.

"How did you come to your solutions so quickly?"

Kagome blinked, expression contorting to vague surprise before it went back to the neutral look. "It was nothing special," she responded. "Lestrade merely walked me through the information he had, and I gave him a possibility that might solve the situation at hand," she explained. "Just to happen that it was what he needed."

"Without visiting the crime scene?" he questioned. She shook her head.

"I'm no detective," she retorted. "I have no reason to go to a crime scene."

"Interesting," Sherlock mused. Kagome picked up on his curiosity and she cocked her head to the side. "Why don't we change that, then?" he suggested. Kagome arched a brow at the remark. "Just so happens there's another case that could use a fresh set of eyes."

"Why would I do that, though?" she responded. She kept her intrigue hidden behind her blank stare. To her surprise, he saw through it easier than Sesshomaru ever could.

"Because you're interested," he stated as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. As surprise washed over her face, he gave a smug smirk. "Anyway, what exactly do you have to do now?" he asked, motioning around the room.

"Are you part of Scotland Yard?" Kagome asked. "Is that why you're here?"

"Of course not," he remarked, rolling his eyes at the assumption. "What I am is a consulting detective. The first and only one."

"They don't know that you're here collecting me for this case, do they?" she remarked flatly. He gave her a knowing smile.

"What they don't know won't hurt them, now will it?" he questioned.

She weighed her options for a few seconds before she shrugged. "I suppose I can spare an hour or two," she stated after a couple of seconds of silence.

C.R: I will always love this ship. Sherlock and Kagome make a dreamteam. He's taking her to a crime scene, but it'll only leave him more confused when he realizes she's harder to read than at first glance.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
