Chapter Three
A/N: This chapter might contain mentions of depression and miscarriage. I will have warning symbols around the areas these might or not be mentioned.
Also while it might be annoying for some because I censor the curse words, I've seen stories taken down due to people reporting the stories for foul language. I just censor the words automatically now.
Thank you.
Flashback, 1 1/2 years ago
Diana was just… so done, done with her brothers, done with the apocalypse, done with angels.
Just done.
Diana grabbed her bag off of the bed and made to storm out but Dean walked in just as she was about to.
"Whoa. Where are you going, missy?" Diana glared at him.
"I'm leaving."
"Leaving? What do you mean, leaving?"
"How hard is that to understand, Dean? I'm leaving. I'm done with this."
"You can't leave."
"Why can't I?"
"Because we're family. And you don't turn your back on family, Diana."
Diana almost crumbled then and there. She needed to get out. Now. "Sometimes family isn't enough, Dean." He reached out to grab her hand but she dodged it and darted out of the motel room.
"Diana!" He shouted. Diana didn't even notice Sam coming in from the Impala and he was now watching the scene in confusion. Realization started to dawn on him when both of the brothers saw their little sister get into a cab.
Diana looked back at them with tears brimming. "I'm sorry. But I can't."
The two brothers could only watch as she left.
"Where to, miss?"
"Can you take me to that used car lot just on the outskirts of town? They are holding a car for me," Diana asked.
"Of course. We'll be there in a few." Diana leaned back in her seat and just thought.
She couldn't believe that she had left her brothers… her big, loving brothers that would do anything for her. But like she told Dean, sometimes family, sometimes blood, isn't enough… especially right now.
Her thoughts drifted to a year ago, when she was somewhat happy… she had gone her own way after Dean had died. After Sam abandoned her at Uncle Bobby's. And she had found someone that caused her to smile again.

Liam. His brown hair and blue eyes, chiseled jawline, broad shoulders, and always a smile that brightened a room.
They began dating a month after meeting. And two months later found Diana a little over six weeks along.
Oh, those two lines and Liam's personality had brought her out of the depressed state she had been in due to essentially losing both of her brothers in one go.
Diana lived with Liam in his two bedroom apartment and already Liam was excitedly looking on his computer for nursery ideas.
!WARNING!
Suddenly, Diana began to feel pain in her back and pelvis area.
"Liam?"
"Yeah?"
"Something's wrong. We need to go to the hospital." Liam without hesitation helped her out the door and drove them to the nearest hospital which was twenty minutes away. But by then, it was already too late. Diana could only watch as her pants grew dark as blood began to slowly seep out of her.
Diana, whom had already begun to cry, cried harder.
She couldn't help but think this was her punishment for wanting a life away from hunting. Liam kept looking at her in worry as he pressed down on the gas even more. Diana met his eyes just in time to see that a truck ran the stop sign of the intersection they were going through.
"LIAM! LOOK OUT!" Was the only thing Diana was able to say before the truck slammed into Liam's side. The force caused Diana to slam her head on the window and she blacked out.
Diana came to to beeps from hospital machines and someone shuffling around. She slowly opened her eyes to see a nurse writing something in a chart. Diana tried to talk but found she could barely move her eyelids, never mind opening her mouth to talk.
But she must have made some type of noise or movement because the nurse turned her attention onto her immediately.
"Hey there, dear. My name is Nurse Aiden, you're at the Community Hospital in Applegate."
Okay, Diana thought to herself, that was where she was kind of expected to be. But… where was Liam? Panic was beginning to set in as memories of just before the accident began to go through her mind.
"Relax, Miss Winchester, you're okay. I'm going to get the doctor for you, okay?"
Diana tried to calm herself, she really did.
Where was Liam? W-Was her baby okay? It was all she could think about as she watched the nurse hurry out.
She came back quickly with a male doctor and two officers following.
The doctor began examining Diana and asking her questions.
Finally after getting fed some ice chips to soothe her dry throat, Diana was able to ask her own questions.
"W-Where i-is L-Liam? Is m-my b-b-baby okay?" She rasped out. They all exchanged glances and dread began to fill Diana.
"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, Miss Winchester, but you've been in an unconscious state for six days. Your significant other died on impact at the scene of the accident as did the drunk that T-boned you." One of the cops said. The doctor hesitated to pick up where the cop left off.
"Miss Winchester, unfortunately when you were brought in, you lost the baby."
Diana raised her hand - the only one that wasn't in a cast - to cover her face at his words.
"Can I have a few minutes alone please?"
The nurse hesitated. "Is there anyone that I can call for you?"
Diana sniffled, her tears falling. "Uh, no."
The nurse then left, shutting the door behind her.
I can't believe this happened. I lost my baby. I lost the man that I found myself falling in love with…

End Flashback within a Flashback
Diana came back to herself when the cab stopped. "Here ya go!"
"Thank you. How much do I owe you?"
"$15."
Diana handed him a twenty. "Keep the change."
"Thank you. Have a good day." Diana just smiled at him and got out with her bag in tow. As she walked towards the dealership, she saw Castiel standing on the sidewalk.
"Go away, Cas."
"What are we doing? Is there a case?" Castiel asked as he began to follow her.
"I don't know what you are doing, but I am getting a car."
"Why? Wouldn't Dean let you borrow his if you needed it?"
Diana shot him a look. "Cas."
"Oh, right. Dean's car."
As a fellow member of Team Free Will, Diana had been slowly getting Cas acclimated to some human culture. One of which is Dean's obsession with the Impala.
Diana will admit Castiel is one of her best friends but she couldn't deal with him right now either. They were a few hours away from Applegate where she had lived with Liam and where Liam and their little one were buried. And the anniversary of it all was the next day.
With it being the first anniversary, Diana knew she was going to be a wreck this whole week.
"Diana. Where are you going?"
Diana stopped and sighed, turning to Castiel.
"I'm sorry, Cas, but I need a week to myself okay? No world ending mission, no monsters, no brothers. I-I need this. I'll be back, you can tell Dean and Sam that, okay?"
They locked eyes before Castiel sighed and nodded.
"Okay, I'll give you the week. But if you're not back by then, I unleash your brothers on your trail."
"Thank you."
"You never have to thank me for assisting you, Diana. We're… friends, right?"
Diana smiled softly at the angel. "Yeah, Cas, we're friends."
By the end of the week, Diana was over her period of mourning. She stopped one last time at the cemetery with a bouquet of orchids and tulips. She stood in front of Liam's headstone and placed half of the bouquet down and moved to the smaller grave next to it.
Diana just bowed her head and prayed for the little one that was her's for but a moment.
"Diana Winchester." A male accented voice said behind her. She sighed.
"Can you not wait until I leave this place of mourning before you try to kill me?" Diana placed the last of the flowers and rose to her feet, wiping the stray tear that had fallen as she turned to the man behind her.
He wore a very expensive looking suit, had black hair, and had facial hair coming in. Locking onto his dark eyes they flashed red at her. There was no way this was whom she thought it was.
This is not how she was going to die.
Both of them eyed each other.
Lucifer knew why he hadn't attacked her yet. After following her around all week, he had decided to give her time to grieve her loss and during that time, he had felt the beginnings of a guardian bond towards her.
The very horror he felt at that. The Devil Himself having a guardian bond with a human, with a Winchester!
"So, you've got me alone. What're you going to do?" Diana asked, a slight twinge of fearing shooting through her. Diana knew she didn't stand a chance against the devil himself.
Lucifer smirked at her. "Oh, little sweetheart, give me a moment. I'm just trying to decide on what I'm going to do with you."
"You aren't going to harm a single hair on her head, Luci," a familiar voice interrupted. Turning their heads, Lucifer and Diana were met with the figure of Gabriel.
The archangel was wearing a dark blue long sleeved shirt and pants. His hair was windswept and just like his brother had facial hair. His piercing eyes met those of his brother and charge.
"Gabriel, what are you doing here?"
"Why are you here, brother?" The two asked at the same time.
"Well, I felt the alarm sweet little Dee had sweep through her body just a moment ago. And when I sensed you in close proximity, I knew I had to step in."
"Why?" Lucifer asked, offended. Lucifer wasn't going to harm his human. He might've been in H*ll for x amount of years but that didn't mean he was going to ignore one of the most sacred rules of an archangel.
No archangel can harm their charge directly or indirectly. And no archangel can harm the charge of another. Their charges were more protected than Prophets were a majority of the time.
Gabriel narrowed his eyes at Lucifer examining him.
"Because she is my charge, brother."
Lucifer froze. He hadn't caught it when Gabriel had hinted at it at first. But… "Gabriel, I believe you must be mistaken. Diana Winchester is my charge."
"Lucifer, I know the bond just as well as you do. I've had it with her for just under six months now. I've double checked. Diana Winchester is my charge."
"She is mine as well."
Diana interrupted. "Charge? What are you talking about?"
Lucifer and Gabriel kept their gazes locked on one another for a moment longer. A clear moment of understanding passing between the two. For their Father to have created a bond between a human and two archangels, something that had never been done before… clearly there was something special about the human.
Lucifer and Gabriel turned their attention onto their charge.
Diana didn't know it yet. But she just became the most important human in the world to the Devil and former Trickster.
"Come, Diana. Why don't we go to the diner and we can explain it all to you?" Gabriel asked.
"Why should I trust the two of you?"
"Because despite what you may of heard of me, Miss Winchester, I am a man of my word. I promise that no harm will come to you from my hand or any under my command." Lucifer vowed.
Diana eyed them. Something inside of her was telling her to believe them.
"I'll give you both one chance… don't screw it up."
