Chapter Four
Flashback cont.
During the conversation that she had with Lucifer and Gabriel, Diana had felt a slight burning sensation on the inside of her wrist and just behind her shoulder.
"Ouch! What is that?" She demanded as she asked her two 'guardian' angels. Gabriel reached out for her hand.
"May I?" Diana relinquished her hand into his as he turned her wrist over so that they could examine what was now branded onto her wrist.
It was an orange set of wings with a cross in the middle and four overlapping rows of feathers . Gabriel gaped. "T-Those are my wings! Why do you have my wings imprinted on your skin?"
"Why do you think I would know that, Gabriel? And I felt that sensation on my shoulder too," Diana informed them. She took her hand back and turned so that her shoulder was facing them before tugging her sleeve down so that they could see whatever was there.
Lucifer swore. "Those are mine! What the f*ck is going on?" There was a pair of dark red wings with a red and white 3-D cross in the middle.
"This hasn't happened before with your previous charges?"
"Not that I know of," Gabriel muttered. "Although none of our previous charges were hunters and had more than one guardian."
Gabriel then narrowed his eyes as he began to sense something else. "Can I see your wrist again?"
Diana shrugged but handed it over. He trailed his fingers very faintly over the mark and a shock was sent through Gabriel and Diana.
"What the f*ck was that?" She gasped.
"Luci?" Gabriel said.
"Yes, brother?"
"Touch your mark on Diana's shoulder like I did."
"Why?"
"Just do what I ask this once, brother."
Lucifer shrugged but got up from the table and came to sit beside Diana and slowly reached out for her shoulder. Diana just sighed but let him tug her shoulder sleeve down as Gabriel was still holding her wrist. As Lucifer mirrored Gabriel's earlier movements, they both felt the same shock go through them.
"Seriously! What is that?!" Diana asked as she snatched her arm back and scooted over as much as she could.
"Diana, I believe that for whatever reason when those marks were given to you…" Gabriel trailed off as the two brothers eyed each other. Both knew that whatever was at work here, Diana's life had changed even more than before.
Lucifer picked up where Gabriel left off. "Your marks have some of our grace."
"So what does that mean for me?"
"We don't know. It could be nothing or it could be something. We just won't know either way."
They fell silent as panic was starting to set into Diana's thoughts.
"Raphael might know." Gabriel suggested.
"Do you really want to trust our brother who is Michael's loyal dog?"
"Well, who else are we going to ask, Luci? You know he did all kinds of research on this when charges first came into being. Father gifted him with all of the scrolls and texts about it."
Lucifer sighed heavily. "Fine. Diana, Gabriel and I are going to hunt down Raphael to see if he can give us any answers on what is going on. Once we have done so, Gabriel or I will be in contact."
Diana blinked. "So, that's it? No asking me for where my brothers are? Or anything to do with the Apocalypse?"
Lucifer smirked at her. "Fortunately for you and your brothers, this bond has made you the most important person in mine and Gabriel's lives. So, since you don't want the Apocalypse to happen, I won't start it on my end. But," he cut off her relief filled exhale. "If Michael starts it, I will retaliate. You have my word."
Diana stared at him for a moment. "I can live with that. Thank you, Lucifer, Gabriel."
Then the three went their separate ways.
When Diana returned to her brothers the next day, she didn't tell them anything that happened and neither of her brothers asked her what happened during her week away. Although she knew that the curiosity was killing them. She knew that if she tried to tell them that Lucifer was almost completely out of the fight to end the world, they would want to know everything and she couldn't tell them yet… not until Lucifer and Gabriel came back to her with their findings.
Once they came back and told her their findings, then she would. Until then, she didn't need to have her brothers worry when she was worried enough for all of them.
