I walked into the precinct like any other day talking to Don but we both saw Olivia's desk. I grab my phone and call her. I hear the ring… ring… ring… "Hello" Her voice sounded nervous and scared. "Hey Olivia."

"Dad, are we still good at our annual spot today?" my heart dropped when she said "dad" I looked at Cragen who has been staring at me. "Yeah Honey. I'll see you then." the line went dead. Now I have to find our annual spot in New York City. I stare at my phone.

Nick, Amanda and Fin walk in. Cragen touches my shoulder. "Benson needs us. She is in danger." That's all I said before rushing to my desk and seeing a letter label 'John' I opened it.

Dear John Munch,

Please please please be back at work today. Anyways as you see my desk is cleaned off but that's because this guy named William Lewis. Ask Fin or Cragen about him. He is literally insane. He only got off on a mistrial because our victim died and the DNA got cross contaminated. Well I don't have a lot of time.

Anyways, John, I told Mr. Lewis that I had to meet my father at Central Park at 12:30pm by the bridge. Please be there and have a team hidden somewhere but make sure Amanda, Cragen, Nick, and Fin are not seen because he knows them. John, I am truly sorry. If this does go south and I do end up dead please know that I don't blame anyone.

If it comes down to it please save the child and leave me. I don't care if I end up dead but I really don't want to die. I really want to live but right now a child's life is at stake so I cleaned off my desk and left a note that tells Cragen I quit with my gun and badge.

Please live your life for me. Tell Cragen what's going on. I left everything besides a bookbag full of clothes. John, my life may be coming to an end. I really don't know. Hell, at that bridge you may find just my body. Goodbye John.

You will always be in my heart and I love you

Your friend

Olivia Benson

I throw the letter down on my desk. ADA Barba comes in and goes straight to Amanda and Fin Cragen asks "What's wrong? How do you know Benson is in danger? I gave her two days off but her desk is cleaned off."

"Don, She said, "Dad." Then this letter. Some guy named William Lewis has her and a child. She said if it comes down to it save the child before her. She thinks her life is gonna end soon Captain. I am taking a team not with Rollins, Fin, Amaro and you. Now get me updated on the guy so I know what I am dealing with"

"Shit. Barba we need a warrant for William Lewis ASAP. He has Benson…"

I see Barba run out of the building. I see the fear in everyone's eyes. I know that it isn't good. Cragen turns to me again. "John, He raped a female for eighteen hours and burned her with anything he could find that was metal."

I sit down worried about what I am gonna see with Olivia after being with him.

12:30pm Central park bridge

I see Olivia with no restraints and a little girl who looks scared.

"Olivia, Honey, How are you?"

"I'm okay dad. So is your brother coming?"

"No, sadly he can't make it."

I knew what she was saying without her actually saying it. I smiled sadly. I know what is gonna happen. The little girl ran to a uniformed police officer. Mr. Lewis pulled out a gun and shot at her. But Olivia jumped in front of the girl and hit the ground bleeding. The officer shot Lewis twice in the chest and it killed him. The girl was safe and unharmed. I heard the 10-13 officer down. I put pressure on Olivia where she was shot.

"John…" she said weakly "Please forgive me."

"There is nothing to forgive." I looked her in the eyes.

"Tell…Everyone…I…will…never… forget… them…" I hear her breathing come very short and shallow. So I take one of my hands and grab her hand.

"I will Liv… I love you…"

She smiled briefly and then I heard her final breath… I checked her pulse and nothing. The paramedics arrived and pronounced her dead. I walked away after everything was processed. I walk into the precinct and everyone is staring. Cragen walked up to and said "Did she survive? What happened?"

I looked down at my hands and they were still covered in her blood. I saw the blood on my shirt. I could feel my eyes start to water like I was about to cry.

"She did as she always did and protected a child. She saw Mr. Lewis was about to shoot Emily, the girl he held hostage, and jumped in front and took the bullet." I could hear my voice start to become crackly "She ended up passing away from those injuries she sustained. I held pressure and tried to keep her with us as she was becoming weaker and weaker from the blood loss. Even though we had an ambulance on stand-by it was not quick enough. But due to Mr. Lewis shooting an officer did have to shoot his weapon. Mr. Lewis took two bullets to the chest and died on impact."

Cragen looked around the precinct and walked over to Benson's desk. I could see the sadness in his eyes. I go to the bathroom to clean up a little. I go back out to the squad room. I see Cragen walk Nick to his speaking to Nick privately in his office and coming back to her desk. I can see Nick eyeing her desk in front of him. He sat down and put his hands on his head. Barba walks in and goes to talk to Cragen but I grab his arm because I see Cragen take a deep breath like he does when he makes an announcement.

Cragen "Can I get everyone's attention please? Today we lost a Detective who has been her for fifteen years in the line of duty," I do a sad smile because it's being considered a line of duty death even though she was off today. "Detective Benson took a bullet to save a child today from being killed after being torture and held hostage by this person. This person is no longer a threat to us or anyone else. It is still an ongoing investigation that is all I am able to say. But can we get a moment of silence for Detective Benson."

Everyone knew Olivia; she was a person who made sure everyone was okay. She never put herself above anyone. She ensured we were all safe and okay. After 5 minutes we all go back to work and I sit at my desk just staring at my hands. My hands are clean but they are stained. Fin walks over.

"John, What's going through your mind? I know you miss Olivia we all do, man."

"I was with her, Fin. I held her while she was bleeding to death. She was so scared on the phone and in person. You could hear it in her voice. Fin, When she was taking her last breaths. She wanted everyone to know she will never forget them. Fin, This place will never be the same without her. You know her funeral will be packed."

"Yep. Let's say our goodbyes and go to my apartment after and watch the godfather and drink some red wine."

I smiled a true smile at that comment and a week later was her funeral and we did exactly that. I cried while pouring the wine because she would always take a glass if she wasn't on call. We talked about the memories and just remembered Olivia. Two months later there was a bench placed in front of our building with a plaque that says In Loving Memory of Detective Olivia Benson 1969-2015.
