It was a peaceful, relaxing afternoon in Death City as a blond Meister leaned against a tree in the park, gazing up at the clear, brilliant day and watching the birds soaring overhead, as well as the laughing, spiky sun.
The Meister was taking in deep, slow breaths to clear his mind, for a Sound Soul dwells within a Sound Mind and a Sound Body.
Finally, the upcoming blonde Meister felt prepared.
"Let's try again." he spoke after a moment, a smile upon his lips as he looked over at his partners.
The Demon Weapon twins are known as Solara and Nelliel Noko.
"Sol, go ahead." The dark-haired twin, Nelliel, spoke as she glanced over at her sister.
"Okeh!" Solara, the blond, chimed before racing at the Meister, jumping up into the air, and transforming into a pristine white Katana with a black cord wrapped around the handle.
Zero easily seized it in his left hand before feeling the companion's thunderous Soul Wavelength. It was never predictable!
However, they are doing better than when they first began training several months ago. He couldn't even hold them!
Once Zero had adjusted to Solara's Soul Wavelength, he looked over at the dark-haired twin and nodded.
The other Demon Weapon nodded and transformed into a Katana as well, however, it was black with white cords around the handle. Her Wavelength is slower and smoother.
Yet it was the Meister who had to attune to the difference between the two Demon Weapons.
"Calm down, Zero," the black blade admonished him after noticing his apparent struggle.
"Right... yeah," the blonde said, exhaling softly. Feeling the twins' Wavelength and realizing how similar... and distinct they were.
Solara and Nelliel were well-known, or rather… infamous, pair of Demon Weapons due to having such different Soul Wavelengths. It wasn't due to them not being compatible, but more to handling them at the same time.
Sure, it was suggested that they find their own Meisters, but the twins rejected the idea because they didn't want to be separated.
And accepted the possibility of not having a Meister partner. That is, until Zero arrived.
Zero Lupin, the Utility Meister.
He knew he'd have to work twice as hard to collect one hundred and ninety-eight Kishin Eggs and two Witch Souls.
Those would be the requirements for Solara and Nelliel to become Death Weapons.
"Good job," Solara proclaimed from the left blade. "We're starting to match!"
Zero grinned as he stood up and examined the swords in each hand, before giving a practice swing through the air.
Then followed it up with the other sword.
Okay, that felt… Wait.
He wasn't using them by themselves.
He was using them as twin swords, for that was what they were!
With that in mind, Zero adjusted his stance and swung both weapons in unison.
Yes! That felt right!
Now, to speed up!
Finally, the blonde Meister sprang back to avoid an 'attack' before wheeling around and countering with the black sword. As a result, the 'fight' is over.
It was clear that they had no formal experience with dual-wielding blades. That, though, added to the excitement. To learn, adapt, and grow as time passes.
"Now to try it on a mission!" Solara commented from the left blade.
"Yeah, we should!" the Meister gleamed happily.
"We're still learning the basics!" the black sword interjected.
"Then we'll take on another low-level mission." Zero replied with a smirk.
"...Fine." the black sword sighed heavily. "But if you die because of your recklessness, then-"
"-You'll kill me." the blonde male finished as he watched his weapons transform into their human forms. "I will be careful."
"Good," Nelliel said, her face softening as she looked at the Meister with crimson eyes before seeing Solara jump on his back.
"You did fantastic!" Solara chimed as she held on to the Meister.
"You too!" Zero chuckled as he reached behind him and attempted to pat her on the head. "Let's go check out the missions!"
"Can we pick something up from Deathbucks?!" Solara chimed excitedly as she held onto the Meister's shoulders.
"Do you have money?" Zero commented as they neared their car.
"No," whined Solara. "But you do!"
"I'm not buying you a drink-"
"Buy me a drink, or let me drive!"
…Moments later…
Zero and Nelliel walked away from DeathBucks with a giggling Solara and a huge, rainbow-colored drink.
"You're the best.~" Solara giggled.
"Yeah, yeah," grumbled the Meister as he went over to the car. Until he overhead group of people talking about the famed Heartbreak Killer.
Zero hummed before climbing into the driver's seat.
Solara sat in the passenger seat this time, with Nelliel in the backseat.
"Did you two hear that?" Zero inquired as he drove off. "Of what the group were talking about."
"Oh, about the Heartbreak Killer?" Solara inquired after sipping the colorful beverage and retrieving a stuffed cuddly toy from the glove box. One of many.
Zero nodded as he turned onto the road.
"From what people are saying, it's a killer that goes after couples." Nelliel commented simply as she opened a book.
"So that means we don't have anything to worry about." The blond twin commented thoughtfully, then poked Zero's side. "Especially Zero.~"
"I will take that drink it all!" Zero mused, glancing over at the blue-eyed Demon Weapon.
"You wouldn't!" Solara gasped.
Zero smirked and glanced over at Solara for a moment before continuing down the road.
Solara's drink was safe... for now.
"Think there's a mission for the Heartbreak Killer?" Solara asked gently while holding her cup, and the plush toy.
"We can look for it." Zero assured as he pulled into the Academy's parking lot and found a spot.
When the trio arrived at the Mission Board within the Academy, they scanned the available missions until Nelliel found one with the Heartbreak Killer.
"So there is a mission for that one." Nelliel commented before handing it to her sister and Zero. "Guess it's real."
"Then it's a mission we'll be taking." Zero grinned as he adjusted his long, dark jacket before signing the three of them up for the mission.
Later that evening...
A young couple was laughing and having a good time as they walked, skipped, and sang together in the park on a beautiful, shadow-filled night.
What could be more compelling than True Love?
It was fantastic that a stalking Kishin came up behind them. Wait... what?!
Before the couple was able to react, the feminine Kishin snatched up the lovebirds with their claw-like hands and went to squeeze the souls out of the body.
"So you're the HeartBreak Killer," a male voice said, drawing the Kishin's attention as she turned to face the owner, a blonde Meister wielding black and white Katanas. "You saved me a lot of time looking for you."
The Heartbreak Kishin tossed the couple to the side. Unconscious.
Zero breathed out before smirking once he realized that the attention was on him.
"Let's go!" chimed the white sword.
"Don't overdo it!" the black sword stated.
"I got-" the blonde said before realizing the creature had closed the gap and slammed them against the tree.
The Meister strained against the Kishin's claw and even made a futile attempt to slash the Kishin's arm. It was, however, ineffective.
The HeartBreak Kishin hissed deeply before clawing the duel sword Meister through the tree, sending him crashing to the ground.
Zero managed to stab the ground to halt his momentum and regain his footing before turning to face the thing in front of him. Without hesitation, the dark jacket Meister charged forward, slicing the Kishin's side with both blades!
The attack was met with a painful growl as she grasped her side and spun around to try to swipe at the fighter. Only for them to block with the white sword.
"Follow it up!" Nelliel declared from within the black blade.
"Right!" the wounded Meister agreed before swinging the dark blade dowards upon Kishin's body. Opening a wound from the Kishin's shoulder and down to her waist!
The Kishin filled the skies with a blood-curdling roar of pain before swinging at the Meister.
"Watch out!" Solara called out from the white blade.
Zero couldn't reply due to trying to dodge the onslaught of the Kishin's attacks, before trying to counter.
The HeartBreak Kishin, on the other hand, managed to leap into the air, escaping the Meister's attack, and sliced downwards on the fighter's body, drawing blood.
"Zero!" Nelliel called out. "Are you okay?!"
"I got… some fight left." The blond Meister chuckled weakly as he readied himself and held onto the swords tightly. With that, he rushed the Kishin and slashed through the killer's right arm!
When the creature lost its right arm, it let out a pained growl. Making it susceptible to further attack!
"It's time to... put an end to this!" Zero stumbled before rushing to the female Kishin and stabbing the Heartbreak Killer in the chest.
The Kishin wailed out weakly before fading into nothing, leaving behind a red sphere known as a Kishin Egg.
"See, I... got it done." Zero chuckled softly as his Demon Weapons reverted to normal.
"And almost getting killed." Nelliel commented as she smacked the Meister's shoulder.
"Ow! But I got it done!" Zero answered while enduring the Weapon's hits.
"Nelli," Solara said as she cradled the Kishin Egg. "You or me?"
Nelliel hesitated for a moment to look over at her sister, then letting Zero go, "You can."
"Thank you!" Solara chirped and ate the red orb.
Nelliel gave the Meister a brief glance before checking his person and... discovering the Notebook.
Nelliel's Soul Count: 34.
Solara's Soul Count: 35.
The Heartbreak Kishin.
"We should get going," Nelliel suggested after writing down the details for her sister as she gestured to Zero with a thumb. "Or else he may die."
"Yeah, that would be bad." Solara, once done with the Kishin Egg, replied and went over to the others to help the Meister to the car. Then smirked. "Since you're too wounded to drive. Maybe I can-"
"No." Zero and Nelliel spoke in unison.
"You guys are no fun." Solara whined, opening the door to the back seat.
"That's because we can't afford any more speeding tickets." Zero reminded her.
"Fiiiiine." Solara groaned before 'accidentally' pushing the bleeding Zero into the backseat and closing the door. "Oops, my hand slipped."
Nelliel pinched the bridge of her nose before looking over at her sister… then slapping her shoulder.
"Just get in." Nelliel advised before getting into the driver's seat.
"Kay!" the sibling replied, getting into the passenger's side and choosing the music.
That was the normal day of Zero Lupin, the Meister, and his Demon Weapons, Solara and Nelliel Noko.
A young man who will overcome any and all barriers to have his companions become Death Weapons!
