A/N: So, yet another drabble today while I'm half asleep. What else is new?

OOOOOOOOOOO

David looked over when Calli plopped next to him. She yawned and sagged on the table, resting her head upon her folded arms. He pulled his cigarette from between his lips.

"You look tired," he commented, looking her over.

"That's what you get when all but two housekeepers call in on one day," Calli mumbled into her arms. "I had to cover more than one area. And it was hell on me."

"So why didn't you leave?" David asked, ice blue eyes flashing.

"Because someone has to be reliable on the team," Calli huffed. "And unfortunately my dad and grandpa put an unhealthy work ethic in my genes. So….meh!"

"We did tell you to quit that job," David pointed out. "Because they treat you like shit and give you too many hours."

"So?"

"So, quit."

"How about you bite me?" Calli shot back. "And not literally! You can go screw yourself if you think that I'm going to lose the money that I get for doing this job."

David poked her and she winced. "The job is wreaking hell on your body, sweetheart. And that's my job. You need to quit that one."

"Not gonna, Mister."

"You're no fun when you're half asleep during the night."

"I'm sorry that I'm human and have needs that don't apply to you or fit your damn schedule, David."

Calli yawned and sat up, looking around with sleepy eyes. David wrapped his arm around her shoulders. The witch leaned into him.

"You have to leave that job, Calli," he pressed. "It's not doing you any good."

"Well, I'm not going to survive off my art and books….And I'm not using your money to survive either."

David narrowed his eyes. "Why not?"

"Because it's not my money."

"If I give it to you, it's your money."

Calli shook her head. "Nope. It's still yours and I didn't earn it."

The Lost Boy stamped out his cigarette and toss the butt of it aside. "Then I have another idea."

Calli watched him start messing around his pockets. "What's your idea? Because if it involves money that you give to me, the answer is no and will always be no."

"You'd better think twice about your words, princess." David pulled out a small velvet box. "Found it."

He heard her heart skip beats. Calli slid away from him and stared at the box and then at him and then back at the box.

"D-David?"

David flipped open the box and revealed a ruby ring. "Calli, do you want to marry me?"

Calli stared at him in complete shock. "David? Why me?"

"Because you are everything that I could love in a person and all that I want to protect. Let me prove my worth to you and keep you safe by my side as husband and wife." David took her hand. "Will you marry me?"

David was aware of others watching them. He didn't know if Calli could too as she looked like she was fighting to breathe.

"Yes!" she finally exclaimed. "I'll marry you! Yes, yes, yes!"

David smirked and put the ring on her finger. Calli gave him quick butterfly kisses and then settled to looking at the ring.

"Oh my gods, this is beautiful!"

"Like you." David pulled her back to his side. "Now, quit your job."

"What?"

"As your soon-to-be husband, quit your job."

Suspicion lit up her eyes. "What are you talking about, David?"

"Your money is not my money and vice versa. So, I'm telling you that you don't need to work at a job that gives you hell. My money has you covered."

"You little sneak! You filthy little sneak!" Calli glared at him. "You proposed because you wanted me to do all that?"

David shook his head. "I proposed because I've been planning on to ask you for a while jnow. This just gave me a really good reason to ask you. So ha. Suck on those apples."

Calli frowned. "Unbelievable! You're simply unbelievable!"

"I know."

"And you're even smug about it!"

"Yep."

"Asshole."

"You need a better line than that, princess."

Calli rolled her eyes and stood up. "Double the asshole."

David pulled her onto his lap. He looked at her with his piercing blue eyes and Calli tried to avoid looking at him. David nuzzled her neck, ignoring the way that his gums ached at the closeness to her veins. Calli was always a hairsbreadth away from danger with him.

"Calli."

"Nope. Not falling for those pretty blue eyes."

"Calli…"

"Not listening."

"Calli, I love you."

Calli turned her gaze in his direction. "You know I love you too."

"But I like hearing you say it." He pressed a kiss to her neck where he had only bit her twice for feeding. " No matter how grumpy you are."

Calli hugged him. "Jerkface."

David chuckled. "That will make you Mrs. Jerkface."

Calli wiggled her fingers so that the ring glinted. "I could always take this off and give it back to you."

"You won't though."

Calli leaned her head against his shoulder. "I know." She heaved a heavy sigh. "So…I guess I'm quitting?"

"You already did."

Calli hummed. "The Boys handled that then?"

David's answer was to light another cigarette. Calli waved away the smoke and made a face.

"I miss them."

"They're always around."

"Are they going to propose too?"

David made a face. "No. One husband only."

"That doesn't seem fair to them."

"They're in agreement with me. It's fine."

"So, you've thought of everything."

David plucked his cigarette from between his lips. "Not everything."

Calli looked at him in confusion. "Huh?"

David gestured at Calli's body, still clothed in her black work scrubs. "I haven't completely figured out how to get you out of those without having a lot of fun in public."

Calli scrambled off of his lap. "Oh no! You are not going there!"

David smirked. "You have one minute to run. Then I'm coming for you and the scrubs get it."

Calli took off and David smirked to himself, casually rising to his feet.

Things are going to be interesting from now on…
