I sat at the staff table, looking across at my fellow colleagues who were sat talking with each other about what the new year would bring. Professor McGonagall's chair was empty at that moment due to the fact that she was as usual going to lead the new students into the Great Hall and Professor Dumbledore was talking to Professor Flitwick. Meanwhile, the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, Professor Quirrell was trying to start a conversation with me about a journey he had recently gone on.

"I p-picked up a n-n-new book on v-vampires, Professor," he stuttered. "F-fascinating, it is. Y-you can borrow it if y-you want."

He was suddenly interrupted by the large doors to the Great Hall opening and a number of what appeared to be the first years walked down the aisle and gathered in front of the school's sorting hat.

"Abbott, Hannah!" called Professor McGonagall.

A brown haired girl stepped shakily forward and the hat was placed on her head. A few seconds later, I heard the hat's voice call out:

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

More names were called out and before I knew it, I heard McGonagall's voice shout "Malfoy, Draco!"

He sat down on the stool and the hat barely rested on his head until the hat sorted him into Slytherin. Not that I really found it that surprising, to be honest. All of a sudden, McGonagall took a deep breath and called

"Potter, Harry!"

I noticed Dumbledore lean forward slightly in his chair as he watched a small boy with black hair sit on the stool. Meanwhile, I clenched my fists and folded my arms across my chest. I expected him to be sorted into Gryffindor, but it was taking ages. Suddenly, I noticed him grip the sides of the stool and start to whisper again and again to the hat. Finally, the silence was broken when the hat called out

"GRYFFINDOR!".

It was only when everyone sat down that I noticed what he actually looked like. Untidy black hair, same glasses. I may as well as been looking at James Potter all over again. Suddenly, he caught my eye and I definitely knew that this was not going to be a sort of person that I was going to like.
