In this world of mages and sorcerers there are many things which are hidden from the general people to safeguard and protect the people. However, this is all but lies the mages are arrogant snobs who wish only to research their generational magic and gain more power for themselves, there are 3 great powers among the magical world:

1. The Mages Association: Its headquarters called as the 'clocktower' is situated in London, this is where most of the mages are raised and taught how to use the basics of magic.

2. The Church: These mainly consist of high-level assassins and people known as the executors. They deal with the supernatural such as vampires and the undead.

3. The other ones: Now this is not an actual faction however their power is not to be underestimated, this mainly consists of vagabonds who don't want to affiliate themselves to the other 2 factions it consists of free-lance mercenaries and assassins.

Now among these particular 'vagabonds' consists a man, a man filled with ambition, naivety and ruthlessness this man is called "Emiya Kiritsugu". He's a man who wants to save the whole world from wars, famine, terrorism and wishes to become hero.

Which is why he fought for his life in the worlds deadliest game or competition called as the 'HOLY GRAIL WAR'.

The Holy Grail war: A deadly competition between 7 extremely skilled mages to fight for the holy grail. The grail itself is such a strong power that it summons seven legendary figures to fight for these mages however not some normal legendary figures these figures are myths, legends, kings, queens, gods these are figures that are known in history as 'HEROES'.

They are summoned in 7 different classes:

KNIGHT classes: SABER, LANCER, ARCHER.

2. The WARRIOR classes: CASTER, BESERKER, RIDER, ASSASSIN

The heroes class decided upon their myth and legend for caster (Thomas Alva Edison), assassin (Hassan of a 100 faces). Each class has its own advantages and disadvantages and their own trump cards which are called as Noble Phantasms. Now the strength of a hero generally depends on how known they are to the world. Such as King Aurthur or Hercules, the wider known a hero is the more power they have.

Fuyuki City (1999):

What happened?

I could feel the sweltering heat on my face, my breathing laboured.

Am I in hell?

Now I realized my chest was crushed underneath the rubble, and I was far to weak to unearth myself. Darkness took me again, and when I woke up, I heard a man's voice off in the distance. I remember the look on his face, the tears in his eyes over finding someone alive in the rubble. A man filled with joy from the bottom of his heart. He had looked so happy to me…it was as though it were him and not me that were saved.

"You are alive, you are alive, oh thank god you are alive"

Even as I lingered in the reach of death, I was jealous of the man, so happy to have found one person, and with that himself.

Oh, what a life u must have had…

I was eternally grateful to him, but I had never expected to see him again, and especially not the first person I would see when I regained consciousness in a hospital bed, excluding the nurse.

He was tentative in approaching the boy, and didn't want seem very overeager, "Hi, you must be Shirou, I'm not sure whether u remember or not."

Shirou couldn't say anything on account of the smoke inhalation damage but he did manage to signify a with nod of his head.

"Great, that's great, now I hate to drop this on you, but I'd like to ask your preference: going to an orphanage or coming and living with me."

Shirou couldn't remember anything from what occurred before the fire, his earliest memories were those moments he spent in the inferno, the smells, the sounds, the heat threatening to melt and charr him to the bone. He ushed the recollections away and gratefully accepted the man's request with biggest smile he could muster.

Kiritsugu felt his heart almost leap in his chest, "I'm glad to hear that, now we should get you dressed, the doctor said you were free to leave as long as we follow some safety precautions. You should also get accumulated to your new home as soon as possible. Also, I guess this is important for you to know right away, my name is Emiya Kiritsugu…", he paused looked at left and right before leaning in to the boy and whispering "I'm a Mage."
