A spaceship/time machine with the appearance of a British blue police box named "TARDIS" (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) was levitating throughout a rainbow-coloured Time Vortex.
Inside of it there was a man driving it, a Time Lord from Gallifrey known only as the Doctor. The Doctor had the appearance of a tall man in his 40s, with bouffant curly blonde hair and green eyes and usually weared a rather bizarre outfit: A white shirt with two red question marks on the collar, yellow trousers with black stripes, a purple waistcoat, an oversized blue polka dot bow tied cravat and a patchwork frock coat so colourful that it looked like a unicorn vomited on it.
Everything seemed fine, until the TARDIS abruptly stopped flying.
"Oh, what now?!" the Doctor thought, as he checked on the console what was the problem.
The TARDIS was stuck, immobilised by a capture ray, attracting the box to an enormous ship.
The scanner of the TARDIS turned on, a woman with long brown hair and blue eyes appeared on it.
"Doctor." she spoke. "You have been summoned as defence attorney by the High Council of Avotox.".
"What?" the Doctor was confused,"As the defence attorney of whom?"
"You shall be the defence attorney for the Renegade Time Lord known as the Master." The woman spoke.
As the Doctor heard the name of the Master, his childhood friend and archnemesis who has a passion for causing havoc across the universe, his expression changed from "What in the world is going on?" to "Oh, you have got to be kidding me…"
The TARDIS was attracted to the ship and the Doctor prepared himself for the trial of his childhood friend.
Meanwhile, a man with dark brown hair and a black goatee beard, wearing a black high collared tunic with puffed sleeves and black trousers was reading a book in his prison cell.
His name was the Master, a notorious Time Lord feared across the universe.
"Inmate-020171, your attorney has arrived." A voice from the speaker spoke.
The Doctor arrived in front of the Master's cell.
"Ah, Doctor." the Master started speaking. "At last, you finally arrived."
"What's the meaning of this?" the Doctor asked, visibly annoyed. "I was minding my own business on my TARDIS until a tractor beam hit it and now I'm here being your defence attorney for a crime which, with high probability, you have committed!"
"Oh, Doctor, I apologise for such inconvenience." the Master lied, amused by the Doctor's rage. "But I can assure you that I didn't commit any crime."
The Doctor raised an eyebrow.
"...Well, this time." the Master corrected himself. "But really, Doctor, I was framed by someone and I need your help to find the real culprit."
The Doctor was reluctant to accept the request, knowing the Master's untrustworthiness, but he sighed. "Fine, I'll at least try to convince them to not give you a death sentence."
The Master smirked. "Thank you, Doctor, Thank you."
"It's better if I go now, I've only got 24 hours to prepare your case." the Doctor, as he left.
While walking he started reading the files he was given to by the Avotox.
"So, the Master is accused of murder and theft of the Jewels of the Crown." He read, as he entered the room where the crime occurred.
The room was large, with shelves at the sides and one pillar at the centre, where the Jewels of the Crown were supposed to be.
Near it, there was the silhouette of the dead body.
"Hmm, I wonder if there were any witnesses, if the Jewels were so important, there should have been a guard around." the Doctor thought.
He left the room, and immediately found a soldier, a blonde man wearing a blue uniform and black boots.
"Excuse me, good sir." the Doctor stopped the man. "If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you some questions."
"Ah, you're the attorney of the defendant." The soldier said.
"You can say so, I'm the Doctor." the Doctor introduced himself, "Now, I need you to tell me everything you know."
"Very well." The soldier said, "What's your question?"
"Where were you when the crime occurred?" the Doctor asked.
"Well, I was sitting at my desk doing my usual work until I heard a glass-breaking noise coming from the Jewels room. room. I went to check what happened, and I found the Jewels missing and the corpse of one of my coworkers nearby, with the defendant unconscious on the floor."
"Have you found out what the murder weapon was?" the Doctor asked.
"Well, from what I heard, the autopsy confirmed that the murder weapon was a spear." The soldier continued.
"A spear, you say?" the Doctor took note of the new information. "I see, thanks for your collaboration." He left.
The Time Lord went to check the security room, since he noticed various security cameras around the entrance of the Jewels room.
Weirdly, no one was in the security room, but the Doctor ignored it for the moment.
He booted up the terminal, and checked the recordings of the last 24 hours.
Unfortunately, he couldn't find anything: The recordings were wiped, causing the Doctor's suspicions to raise even further.
He returned back to the Jewels room to check his theory.
"Hmm…If I hide behind the door, I can't be seen by those who enter the room at this moment. The culprit must have hid here, knocked the Master out, killed the guard, stole the Jewels and left the room, not before putting the murder weapon near the Master in order to frame him." the Doctor summarised his theory.
Suddenly, an alarm played.
"THE TRIAL SHALL START IN AN HOUR. THE DEFENCE AND THE PROSECUTION MUST PRESENT IN THE COURTROOM IN 50 MINUTES TO PREPARE THE CASE." A robotic voice.
"What?!" the Doctor was shocked. "They said we had 24 hours! How is it possible? Anyway, there is still one last thing that I can't understand: What was the Master doing here?" he thought, as he went to the Master's cell for one last interrogation.
He quickly arrived at the cell, the Master was still reading a book to kill some time.
"Ah, there you are again, Doctor." He said,"Have you prepared everything?"
"I did, but I must ask you one question, Master: What were you actually doing here?"
"Well, it's quite a long story."
"THEN, TELL IT QUICKLY!"
The Master told his side of the story to the Doctor, which left him with an "of course you did" expression on his face.
An hour later, everyone was in the courtroom, waiting for the trial to begin.
The judge entered the courtroom and sat on his chair.
"The court is now in session for the trial against the Renegade Time Lord known as the Master."
As he struck the hammer, the Trial of the Master began.
