Resistance
She knew his brothers better than he did. They only knew him because of her. She disguised herself under his identity once. They were fooled by her for the simple fact that they were almost the same. Had it not been for her obvious girly, scared reaction of the slug, his brothers would've lived with a replacement and never suspect a thing.
His voice was the gentler of the three and his looks were softer. When they acted out, he was always the last to keep up with them. They were still brothers. He shared their cold blood. He was created to be the balance of two greater evils. He didn't question his place in the middle.
A scale did exist, however, and it was in the moment completely imbalanced. When it appeared this way, she was always in his view. Her sweet figure lay wrapped in the folds of her body. She was like pulp in his hands, squeezing her skin through his fingers holding her at her sides.
The fruit of her would be in his mouth and the juice that dripped out of her would surround the largest, protruding part of him. The beads on her skin smelled of sugar to him. They twinkled on the mounds where the addictive taste of her filled his hands and mouth. The tender buds that he tasted also tasted him.
The sweet sensations he could deliver would linger and tingle over her skin. He was bittersweet and sour. He caramelized her like melting sugar from the boiling heat spilling into her. Custard filled her crevices and he pumped the last of it before it came out with him. As it spilled, she gathered and pulled it up to her tongue, leaving the sugary strings hanging from her fingers.
Deep blue eyes fixated on her as she licked what little sweetness he could offer. Her blue, innocent, alluding eyes were like honey. Their gaze would never expire. Her thick, blonde locks draped like syrup over her shoulders as she turned his back onto the bed and came upon him.
The scale seemed to tip toward the opposite side.
"Are you truly bad?"
His light hair covered his forehead and neck and framed the look of evil that further tipped the scale. It was close to becoming balanced.
"Will our babies be bad?"
She was brought down onto him by his force and she melted into him. It was questions like those that would bring both sides of the scale down and they would need to abide by the balance of reality. She could feel his wordless, desperate answer before the scale set properly in place. They held onto each other, doing all they could to stay on one side, together.
Her legs gave in beneath her and he lifted her off and to the side. He came off the bed and covered himself. Watching him leave hurriedly was how he always reacted when the cries were heard. She rested on the bed, wondering if the side he was on was next to her.
The cries slowly ceased. She wrapped and picked herself up, moving into the room across hers. He was in there, cradling something more delicate than she. As if sensing her presence, the weak cries and arms raised up in his hold. She came at his side and took their baby under the sheet and against her chest. With how thin the sheet was, the baby and her stomach were well pronounced even in the dark room.
She moved to kiss him but he didn't meet her advance. He faced away from her as she said, "Is it because you know you have to leave?"
When he didn't come back to her, she fit her arm under his at his side. Accepting his silent farewell, she softly said, "I'll wait for you."
"You can leave."
She heard him just above her breath.
"You don't have to stay here."
"But I want to stay here," her hand fell into his, and although he didn't hold onto her hand, he let her rest it upon her stomach, "Someday, you'll stay here, too. When they understand, I know you'll stay here."
"They'll never understand." He said, moving his hand from her stomach to her chin, "I don't even understand."
"I do." Bubbles felt him angle her face toward his, "I love you."
The scale did exist. Away from where they were. This home was theirs. Unaffected by the two sides they came from as they united. She was almost the same as he was. That was because he resisted being one with her. When they separated and he left, Bubbles let him go. He would be back. Someday, he would stay in this home with her.
