As requested by Kikyotheshintopriestess5555, Rumi Remembers is going to be a one-shot about the simple premise that Rumi Remembers Maruki. You'll have to forgive my entirely made-up personality for her seeing as the SMT wiki doesn't have a segment on her personality. Even her surname is just that of her Japanese va (proud of that idea), enjoy!
"Ms. Terui, congratulations! You can finally leave the hospital, I've got a cab waiting for you outside." Rumi Terui smiled, thanked the secretary, and walked outside, breathing her first breath of complete freedom in a very long time. She had lost her job a while ago but had kept enough in her bank account to retain her apartment. Her eyes finally landed on the taxi and the driver leaned against it "Takuto?" The driver looked up and it was him! She ran up to him, "Takuto Maruki! I was in that hospital for years and you didn't visit once!"I did" Maruki said "Every day for two weeks and your only reaction was to look at me like a stranger. Then the doctor said you were having memory problems and my presence bothered you." Rumi's glare softened "I don't remember much of my time there, why are you a taxi driver now?" Maruki's expression darkened. "It's complicated. Long story short, I felt like I was pushing my ideals on my patients, so I thought it was poetic that I take people where they want to go now" Rumi chuckled "Anyway, I don't suppose you remember where my apartment is?" "of course milady" Maruki gave an exaggeratedly comical bow.
104 dates later, 3/14. "Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for joining us on this special day. We wish you an unforgettable evening, with one last finishing touch from us." As the curtains rose and revealed the beautiful city skyline, Takuto Maruki fell… on one knee. "Rumi Terui, you accepted this engagement ring years ago, yet at the time, it wasn't meant to be, but a lot has changed since then, we've both grown together and apart. Now we've found each other again and I can confidently say I'm ready to try again, are you?" Maruki flipped open the ring box. Rumi was nearly in tears as she took the ring and put it back on her finger, it was a presence like an old friend returned at long last. The wedding was small, the guest list consisted of Maruki's parents, Ren Amamiya, his cat and Rumi's friends from the hospital, two fellow patients, and a nurse. "Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of two souls." Morgana walked up the aisle, looking disgruntled at the pillow affixed to his collar, yet still pleased with all the attention on him. Even the priest seemed surprised at the obedience of this cat
When they got home in the just married taxi, they ran to their bed where Rumi tackled Maruki onto it. Rolling around and kissing, focused only on each other, they fell off the bed and kept going. An hour later, Takuto stood up to answer the phone. As the person on the other end of the line talked, his face fell. "We've been evicted. A noise complaint from the downstairs neighbor was the final straw." Rumi smiled, "That's perfect! This apartment is too small for kids and we can use our honeymoon hotel to look for a better one." Maruki walked over and kissed her. " I love you so much" "I love you more!" Rumi said playfully.
"I'm pregnant" Maruki looked back at her, Stunned into silence as tears of joy welled in his eyes. "I-I" he took a deep breath. "I always wanted to be a father, My whole life," "what are you thinking about?" Maruki's flashback was interrupted by a touch of his hand and a question from his beloved. "Not much" Rumi glared at him playfully. "Liar" Rumi's expression changed to a shocked grimace. "M-my water broke, Our baby's coming" Maruki took her hand and pressed the button to call a nurse. "Everything is going to be ok, I promise" The door flew open. "She's going into labor!" He stood with her, holding her hand and comforting her until it was over. "It'll be ok, It's almost over" "I can see the head!" Maruki looked at his newborn child with teary eyes. "What should we call her?" they said at the same time and laughed together. "Aiko?" said Rumi. "Definitely", said Maruki. "Aiko Maruki", Aiko stirred slightly upon hearing her name, perhaps in the way pets recognize that they are being spoken to rather than recognizing the words themselves. The new parents chuckled.
At the end of the week, Aiko came home with Rumi and Takuto, officially establishing the Maruki family. Having a child was stressful on both of them in ways neither of their careers or lives had prepared them for, yet underneath the dark circles beneath their eyes, they were both happier than they had been in a long time. Every night, before Aiko would sleep, she needed both her parents to sing, and at the end of the song, her crying would cease, her eyes would drift closed, and she would sleep silently with a faint smile on her face. " so long as gods shall live, so long shall I love you "
