I don't own pokemon.
After our visit to the Pokémon Center, we returned to the comforting embrace of our home for a leisurely late breakfast. The aroma of freshly cooked eggs and toast filled the air, mingling with the scent of kibble and berries being prepared for our Pokémon partners.
As the plates were cleared, I took on the task of washing the dishes while Belle and Pa moved to the living room. As soon as I finished my task I heard a call.
"Luke! Join us in the living room. We have something for you!" Belle's voice carried an air of excitement that mirrored her smile.
Walking into the living room, I was met with Belle's beaming countenance and Pa's familiar grin. Pa's reclinable couch seemed almost like a throne as he rose from it, a twinkle of pride in his eyes. Belle, with her hands coyly tucked behind her back, stood beside him, her eyes dancing with anticipation.
"Today's a significant day, Luke," Pa began, his voice tinged with a mix of nostalgia and excitement. "I still remember the day I received my dear Chomps as if yesterday. Now it's your turn. With Juno by your side, a fine Starly like her, you'll soar to new heights."
Belle and I shared a knowing laugh at Pa's signature dad humor.
"And I remember my own partner just as vividly," Belle chimed in, her voice carrying a touch of sentiment. "Today, we've prepared some gifts that will aid you on your journey."
Pa stepped forward, producing a compact-disc-shaped device that resembled an old flip phone. It gleamed in the light, and I marveled at its familiar form.
"That's a last-gen Pokenav," Pa revealed, his voice gruff with affection. "Sturdier than the newer models, designed to withstand the rigors of a journey, Ranger Corp approved. I've loaded it with essential contacts, including mine and Belle's. Keep it close, lad."
"Don't thank me yet, there's more," he grinned, gesturing toward Belle.
Her eyes sparkled as she presented me with a tablet-like device. It bore the markings of countless hours spent working alongside Belle on her research endeavors.
"My very own research tablet," she exclaimed, her voice a melody of pride and fondness. "It's yours now, truly. I've customized it, and separated my work data, but all our shared studies remain. It's also linked to our home server so we can collaborate, no matter where you are."
Touched beyond words, I expressed my gratitude with all the sincerity in my heart. Pa's hand on my shoulder offered reassurance, and his words resonated deeply.
"Thanks! This means so much to me I'll be sure to put them to good use." I said with utmost sincerity
"We believe in you, Luke. Now, why not take Juno out for your first day together?"
With a smile, I turned to my Starly companion, who responded with exuberant chirps and playful hops. Belle's gentle laughter accompanied us as we stepped outside, Pokenav secure in my pocket.
A short while later I was with Juno under the shades of some trees in our favorite clearing. Taking a seat I rummaged around my pack and retrieved the items I had just received, I placed the Pokenav in my pocket and turned to the starly.
"All right Juno. Let's log you in as #1!"
Juno fluttered down from the branch she was perching on and landed in front of me and puffed her chest at being declared as number 1.
With the tablet's transcribe option activated, I began a systematic examination of Juno, my trusty Starly, while narrating my observations aloud.
"Name: Juno," I began, the tablet perfectly transcribing my words. "Encounter: Solaceon Town. Class: Aves, belonging to the order of Birds. Egg group: Flying. Family: Staraptor line. Species: Starly. Sex: Female. Type: Normal/Flying. Abilities: Keen Eye, possibly Reckless. Weight: 2.2 kg. Size: 0.6 m."
As my voice flowed, I shifted my focus to Juno's physical attributes, noting her healthily textured grayish-brown plumage adorned with the characteristic white marking that lent her an air of elegance. Her beak, strong and sharp, stood as a testament to her predatory prowess, particularly when it came to her favored diet—local Bug-type Pokémon and a preference for sweet and a distaste for dry berries.
"Aside from the dietary preference," I mused, "considering the taste and consulting Dr. Birch's in-depth studies on Pokémon natures, Juno likely possesses a Jolly nature, which correlates with heightened speed and lowered special attack. The effect of this nature is reflected in Juno's size—slightly larger than the average Starly—allowing for the increase in weight and wingspan that contributes to her swifter agility."
With this, I extended one of Juno's wings gently, marveling at the well-defined structure and purposeful design. "Juno exhibits a somewhat softer chirp than others within her line, suggesting a potential link to her nature. Of course, this warrants further research and observation to solidify any connections."
Shifting my attention to Juno's feet and claws, I resumed my vocal commentary. "The claws are remarkably sharp, yet Juno displays an impressive degree of precision and control over them, indicative of her dexterity and adaptability. Overall, she presents herself as a robust and vigorous individual, as one would expect from a member of Belle's breeding program designed to combat invasive species threatening Solaceon's crops."
Stepping back momentarily from my scrutiny, I directed Juno's attention to practicing her moves. The ensuing sequence unfolded with graceful coordination—a rapid succession of scratches, pecks, and wing flaps that constituted her unique rendition of the Fury Attack. A fluid pivot into a classic Tackle followed, her movements precise and purposeful. She then demonstrated the agility inherent in the Quick Attack, a display of speed that matched her natural speed. Her final move, an endearing chirp that was her take on Growl, showcased her developing vocal range.
"Four moves in total," I commented, pride edging into my voice. "An impressive display, especially for a Pokémon still transitioning from its infancy."
Ceasing my recording, I refocused our training efforts. "Excellent showing, Juno. Now, let's put some work into the next phase of your training, your wings, and the infusion of flying-type energy into your moves. This will be harder, considering our inexperience, but remember, we're still learning here."
"Alright, Juno, here's what I want you to do. I want you to work on infusing your wings with energy. Strengthen them so that they carry force when you flap your wings in a clapping motion," I explained, demonstrating the motion with my hands. "Also, practice infusing energy into your wings and keeping them strong as you slice through a few branches. We're focusing on Wing Attack, got it?"
My voice softened as I stroked her feathers gently. "While you work on infusing energy into your wings, keep an eye out for any stray feathers your line has a potential egg move called Feather Dance. Who's to say it's strictly limited to that? Let's explore possibilities, yeah?."
Juno's response was eager, an affirmative nod as she perched attentively on my arm. I mirrored her determination with my own resolve. "Alright! Let's get to work!"
As Juno diligently practiced her new techniques, I immersed myself in a series of free-body movements, aiming to enhance my overall athleticism. As the sweat started to bead on my skin, my mind wandered through the intricate details of this world.
In the midst of our work, I marveled at the world around me and felt alive. It was a realm that matched the magic of the digital games I once played but with a tangible presence. NPCs were replaced by living beings, each driven by their instincts, each shaping their own stories in the unfolding drama of life.
This realism extended to the Pokémon as well. They interacted based on the ebb and flow of nature, battling for territory, seeking food, and responding to their environment. Moves weren't confined to a predefined list; they flowed naturally, adapting to the situation at hand. The world had a vibrancy that closely mirrored reality.
Yet, this world was far from a mere nostalgic dream. It bore the indelible marks of human influence, both benevolent and malevolent. Power came hand in hand with responsibility, and the choices individuals made shaped the fate of the world around them. News had reached my ears of an underground faction fomenting chaos in the Kanto and Johto regions, a disruption most likely orchestrated by Giovanni and Team Rocket. Amid the dynamism of this realm lay intricacies and shadows, but it was precisely this intricate authenticity that made it so compelling.
My musings continued to flow until I felt the strain in my muscles, a reminder that our bodies had limits. With this signal, Juno and I took a well-deserved break, relishing a playful game of patty cake to both enhance her wing movements and share a light-hearted moment. However, the tranquil atmosphere was abruptly interrupted by a sharp ringing sound emanating from my pocket. Momentarily startled, I realized I had nearly forgotten about the Pokenav I had received recently.
With a bemused grin, I retrieved the device and glanced at the caller ID, seeing Pa's contact flash on the screen. Answering swiftly, I greeted him, my voice tinged with anticipation, maybe calling me home earlier than expected, possibly to prolong the day's festivities.
"Hey there, lad. How about we keep the celebration going?" Pa's voice carried a note of intrigue. "I just got a call from old man Jenkins, the fellow at the outskirts of town. You remember him, right?"
A chuckle escaped me as I reminisced. "Oh, I remember him well. He's the one who can whip up chili that's practically legendary. Are we dining with him tonight?" A twinkle danced in my eyes as I recalled his secret recipe, which he guarded as if it held the mysteries of the universe.
"Well, that depends on us, I reckon. You see, he's dealing with a bunch of rambunctious Buizel that have encroached upon his fields and are helping themselves to his crops. He's asked for a hand to drive them away. What do you think? Ready for a challenge?" Pa asked, knowing full well I couldn't resist.
"Absolutely!" I replied, my eagerness evident. I turned to Juno, sharing the news. "Did you catch that, Juno? We've got a job." Her wings fluttered exuberantly in response, ready for action.
