Mothers and Daughters
It was a bright and sunny day on Pandora and all was peaceful in the village of the Metkayina clan on the shores of Pandora. Jake and Neytiri were out on the beach looking out at the ocean as they searched for any sign of another Na'vi. They were expecting a special guest from their old tribe the Omaticaya clan, who was coming to visit them for a couple of days.
Jake and Neytiri kept searching when Jake spotted something and pointed his finger as he said, "There."
Neytiri looked in the direction Jake was pointing as she saw an ikran flying toward them with someone riding on top of it. The ikran landed on the beach and the rider climbed off, revealing herself to be the Tsahik of the Omaticaya clan, Neytiri's mother, Mo'at.
Neytiri smiled as she walked up to Mo'at with her arms out and happily said, "Mother."
She hugged Mo'at, who shut her eyes as she returned her hug while Jake walked up to them and Mo'at pulled him into a hug as well.
She released them both and looked at Neytiri as she sincerely said, "I am sorry about Neteyam."
Neytiri looked a bit sad but thanked her mother for the kind words as she said, "Thank you mother."
She held Neytiri's shoulder as she solemnly said, "He is with Eywa now, and with your father and your sister."
Neytiri smiled as she nodded in agreement and then Jake and Neytiri started showing her through the village.
They led her as she looked around and curiously said, "The Metkayina's ways are very different from the Omaticaya's."
Jake looked back at Mo'at as he kept walking and said, "It's taken some getting used to but it's growing on us. The kids really like it here."
They kept walking as Mo'at looked at Neytiri and asked, "How are they?"
Neytiri looked at Mo'at as she answered, "The clan is starting to accept them."
Jake glanced back at them as he as he honestly said, "But they're still giving Spider a hard time, they see him as alien."
Mo'at showed concern as she asked, "How are they handling the loss of Neteyam?"
Neytiri showed a bit of sadness as she said, "They all miss him, as do we."
They proceeded past some Na'vi while Jake looked back at her and said, "Lo'ak took it pretty bad at first but he's getting better."
Neytiri spoke as she said, "Kiri mourns him but she remains strong as she stays by our side."
Jake glanced back at them both as he said, "Tuk took it the worst. She still cries about it sometimes."
Mo'at understood as she said, "I thought it would be especially difficult for her because of her age."
After another minute of walking they came to Jae and Neytiri's hut, where Spider was sitting with Kiri, Lo'ak, and Tuk.
The three adults came as Jake happily said, "Hey kids, look who's here."
Tuk immediately stood up and happily ran to Mo'at as she exclaimed, "Grandma!"
She ran at her with her arms out and gave Mo'at a big hug, Mo'at hugged her back as she smiled and said, "Hello Tuk. It's so good to see you again."
Tuk smiled up at Mo'at as she said, "I missed you."
Mo'at picked Tuk up and held her in her arms as she smiled at her, then the others as she said, "And I have missed you too. All of you."
Kiri smiled as she walked up to Mo'at and said, "Hello grandmother."
She hugged Mo'at, who then smiled at her as she asked, "How is your connection to Eywa?"
Kiri smiled as she happily said, "Stronger than ever."
Mo'at smiled proudly at her adopted granddaughter; she did not understand Kiri's connection but she could not deny that it was amazing. She then put Tuk down and held her hand as she walked over to Lo'ak and Spider as she sat down by them.
She looked at Spider as she said, "Hello Lo'ak."
He smiled politely as he said, "Hey grandma."
Spider looked at her as he smiled and said, "Hey Mo'at."
She smiled as she greeted him and said, "Hello Spider."
Jake, Neytiri, and Kiri sat down with them as Neytiri explained, "Your grandmother is going to stay with us for the next few days."
Tuk was disappointed as she looked at Mo'at and asked, "Why can't she stay here with us forever?"
Mo'at looked down at Tuk as she explained, "Because Tuk, the Omaticaya clan needs their Tsahik. I am needed with them."
Tuk frowned in disappointment as she looked down, but Mo'at smiled as she pulled her close and said, "But I will make the most of my time with you."
Tuk smiled again as she snuggled against her, making Neytiri smile as she watched her daughter love her mother.
Lo'ak then curiously asked, "How are things back home?"
Mo'at looked at him as she honestly said, "The clan misses you all, but we remain strong and honor you."
Jake looked at Mo'at as he asked, "How is Tarsem doing?"
Mo'at looked at Jake as she solemnly said, "He is a fine leader as he tries his best to protect the people. His heart is strong and his will is great. We continue to fight the Sky People to protect our home from their greed."
Jake showed a small smile as he said, "At least some things haven't changed."
Mo'at looked back at the children as she said, "No more talk of war, I am here to check on my family and see how you all are doing."
Kiri smiled as she said, "We're fine grandmother."
Mo'at spoke sincerely as she asked, "How are you handling the loss of your brother."
Kiri then frowned and Tuk became sad as she laid her head against Mo'at's chest and she hugged her for comfort.
She looked at the boys and Kiri as she explained, "Forgive me, I am here to offer you strength and comfort in this difficult time."
Lo'ak looked at his grandmother as he honestly said, "It takes some getting used to but we're getting better at it. But we still miss him."
Mo'at kept hugging Tuk as she softly said, "So do I. But he is in a better place, where the Sky People can never hurt him again."
Tuk started crying a bit as she said, "I wish he was here with us right now."
Kiri came over to them and looked down at Tuk as she said, "We are together Tuk. The rest of us are still alive and that is what is important."
Mo'at looked down at Tuk as she solemnly said, "Your sister is right Tuk. Be thankful that you still have the rest of your family."
Tuk stopped crying for a bit and smiled as she held her hand out toward Kiri, who joined the hug with her and Mo'at. The next morning the Mo'at went out with the kids to meet their new friends and show her what they've learned. They went out into the water and Mo'at stayed with Tuk as she introduced her to her Ilu when she swam up to them. Tuk giggled happily as she fed her Ilu and caressed her face while Mo'at watched with a warm smile.
Tuk smiled up at Mo'at as she said, "I love her so much!"
Mo'at affectionately stroked the Ilu's head and it made noises of joy as Mo'at happily said, "I can see why."
Kiri and Lo'ak joined them as their Ilu swam to them and then Tuk got on hers and connected her queue to hers and swam away.
Mo'at watched her swim away and turned to Kiri who happily said, "Grandmother, come with me."
Kiri and Lo'ak got on their Ilu and connected their queues before Mo'at walked over to Kiri and caressed her Ilu's head. She got on its back behind Kiri and then Kiri smiled back at her grandmother before they started riding through the water. The swam slowly at first for Mo'at's sake but she handled it calmly as she took a deep breath and enjoyed the wind in her face. She looked at Kiri and nodded that she was ready, and then Kiri dived down under the water and Lo'ak followed them on his Ilu. They swam underwater as Mo'at held her breathe and looked around as they swam around the reef. Mo'at was not trained to hold her breathe like her grandchildren were but she had some experience and managed to hold her breathe for a while before they needed to surface. After surfacing for air they dived back down and looked at some fish and sea creatures swimming around them. At one point Lo'ak and his Ilu passed them as he smiled and waved at them as they both waved back at him. Tuk also rode next to them on her Ilu as she smiled happily at them and Mo'at caressed her cheek lovingly before she swam away.
They swam around the reef and showed Mo'at more before they left their Ilu and started swimming around. They got some Gill Mantles and gave one to Mo'at so that she could breathe underwater as they showed her some things. Tuk happily showed Mo'at some shells that she found, which Mo'at did enjoy as she held one in her hand. They both turned and watched Kiri with a small swarm of squid swimming in front of her, she held her arms out and moved them around, directing the squid where to go as they obeyed her. She turned around and smiled at her little sister and grandmother before she swam over to them. Mo'at smiled proudly as she placed her hand on Kiri's shoulder and nodded in approval at Kir's mysterious skill. Later they all went back to the shore and Kiri was at peace with herself as she laid in the shallow water and watched the light of the water shine on the sand. Mo'at watched her happily, she knew Kiri could be odd at times but she loved her passionate love for Pandora and everything in it. She kneeled down in the water next to Kiri and gently nudged her, prompting Kiri to raise her head out of the water.
Kiri looked at Mo'at as she curiously asked, "What?"
Mo'at smiled at her as she said, "You have adjusted well to your new home, haven't you."
Kir sat up in the water and smiled as she honestly said, "Yes, but I do sometimes miss the forests and the mountains."
Mo'at smiled as she kindly said, "Your father may not be chief anymore, but you all will always be part of the Omaticaya clan."
Kiri smiled at Mo'at as she happily said, "Thank you grandmother."
The following evening, they all returned to their hut and watched the sunset on the horizon of the ocean. Mo'at sat with Kiri and Tuk as they happily watched the sun slowly go down and the light reflecting off the water.
Mo'at smiled peacefully as she admitted, "The sunsets here are beautiful."
Kiri nodded in agreement as she fondly said, "It is one of the things that I do love about our new home."
Tuk happily giggled as she said, "I love watching the sunset and the sunrise. I'm the only one who watches it rise."
Kiri was mildly annoyed as she said, "That's because you're the only one who wakes up early enough to see the sunrise."
Mo'at smiled affectionately as she hugged both her granddaughters as they watched just as it disappeared over the horizon. After the sun went down they all had dinner together as Mo'at tasted some fish they had caught and cooked. Mo'at enjoyed the taste of the fish as she watched her family eat it as they happily talked, and Tuk happily played with Kiri and Lo'ak as well. After they had finished eating Kiri sat over the edge with her legs in the water as squid gathered her feet.
Mo'at joined her and looked down at the squid by her feet as she happily said, "You are right. Your connection to Eywa does seem stronger than in the forest."
Kiri had a flattered smile as she looked at the squid and said, "I do not know why I have this gift, but I do cherish it."
Mo'at smiled proudly as she said, "A gift such as yours is special, just like you."
Kiri looked back at Mo'at with a loving smile, soon they all went to sleep and Tuk slept with Mo'at as she snuggled against her. The next morning, Mo'at went out with Lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuk as they showed her around the village and introduced her to some of the people they met. There was one in particular that Lo'ak wanted her to meet, and as they walked on the beach he saw her rise out of the water and walk toward them. Tsireya rose out of the water and shook her had around to get some water out of her hair, then she spotted Lo'ak, Tuk, and their grandmother and approached them.
Tuk happily ran to Tsireya as she exclaimed, "Tsireya!"
Tsireya giggled as she happily embraced Tuk and affectionately said, "Hello Tuk."
Tuk pulled away from Tsireya and they both turned to Lo'ak, Kiri, and Mo'at as they came up to them and stopped.
She had a friendly smile as she looked at Kiri and said, "Hello Kiri."
Kiri smiled back at Tsireya as she replied, "Hello Tsireya."
She smiled happily as she looked at Lo'ak and said, "Hello Lo'ak."
Lo'ak smiled at her politely before turning to Mo'at and holding his right arm toward her as he said, "Hey Tsireya. This is my grandmother Mo'at."
Kiri turned from Mo'at to Tsireya as she proudly said, "She is the Tsahik of our former tribe, the Omaticaya clan."
Tsireya looked a bit surprised but smiled respectfully as she said, "Hello mam."
Mo'at stepped closer to Tsireya with a judging expression as she said, "My grandchildren has told me much about you, especially Lo'ak."
Tsireya kept looking up at Mo'at as she began to grow nervous and said, "He has?"
Mo'at kept looking at her and then showed a friendly smile as she said, "Yes. You are much more beautiful than he said."
Tsireya showed a flattered smile and then looked at Lo'ak behind Mo'at as he looked away with an embarrassed expression.
Tsireya then looked back at Mo'at and smiled proudly as she said, "My mother is the Tsahik of our tribe."
Mo'at looked interested as she said, "I would like to meet your mother."
Tsireya hesitated as she said, "I am not sure that is wise. My mother is expecting and she can be temperamental."
Mo'at was not deterred as she said, "My will is strong and I know the ways of your people."
Tsireya reluctantly agreed as she said, "Okay. Come with me."
Tsireya lead all of them to her hut where she found her brother and her parents carrying fish when they looked and saw her and the others approaching.
Tsireya came to them and then looked at Lo'ak's family as she said, "We have guests."
Tuk smiled as she held Mo'at's hand and happily said, "She's our grandma!"
Ao'nung smirked as he tauntingly said, "Great, another Sully."
He chuckled a bit until Ronal looked at him and sternly said, "Ao'nung!"
Mo'at spoke solemnly as she said, "I am Mo'at, Tsahik of the Omaticaya clan."
Tonowari stepped forward and introduced himself and held his hand out to his wife as he said, "I am Tonowari, leader of the Metkayina clan, and this is my wife Ronal."
Ronal stared at Mo'at as she stepped forward and respectfully said, "We have accepted your family as members of our clan."
Mo'at nodded as she said, "Yes, they have told me about their new lives and of their new friends."
Ronal glanced at Kiri before looking back at Mo'at while she said, "We have accepted them, but I do not fully understand them."
Mo'at glanced at her grandchildren as she said, "My family is mysterious, but they are also strong and brave."
Ao'nung spoke up as he said, "They let a human live with them."
Kiri glared at Ao'nung as she said, "Spider is not like the other Sky People!"
Ronal showed a serious expression as he said, "He speaks like Na'vi but he is still one of them."
Mo'at spoke up as she solemnly said, "Spider was born on Pandora. He may be human but he has the heart of a Na'vi. He is no threat."
Ronal was not convinced as she fiercely said, "I will protect my people from any threat, no matter how great or small."
Mo'at pointed at Ronal as she said, "You remind me of my daughter. Fierce but gentle, strong yet wise."
Ronal's expression softened while Tonowari nodded in agreement Mo'at looked down at Ronal's swollen belly.
She looked back at Ronal as she said, "Your child will arrive soon."
Ronal looked down at her belly and felt it as she nodded and said, "My child is strong."
Tuk came up to Ronal with a big smile as she stared at her belly and said, "Can I feel it?"
Tsireya smiled as she chuckled while Lo'ak said, "Tuk!"
Ronal looked down at Tuk as she calmly said, "You may."
Tuk smiled as she pressed her head up against Ronal's baby bump and smiled as she said, "I can feel it moving inside."
She giggled happily while Ronal looked at Mo'at and said, "She reminds me of my daughter when she was young."
Lo'ak and Mo'at both looked at Tsireya, who smiled bashfully as she looked at Tuk while Ao'nung showed an amused smile. Sometime later, they all went out into the water and rode Ilu as they swam over the reef, diving down and jumping out a few times. Lo'ak rode with Tsireya while Mo'at rode with Kiri and Tuk rode her Ilu by herself, next to her sister and grandmother. They watched as Lo'ak rode with Tsireya and held onto her while she smiled back at him while they swam on the surface.
Kiri smiled at her grandmother as she said, "I told you they like each other."
Mo'at smiled with approval as she said, "I can see why he cares for her."
Kiri nodded in agreement as she said, "Yes."
Mo'at kept watching them as she said, "I believe that your brother may belong here."
Kiri nodded again as she said, "Yes, he does."
Later that night
The Sully family were at their hut as they prepared dinner while Mo'at turned to see Neytiri staring out at the sea.
Mo'at came and sat beside her as she said, "There is something on your mind."
Neytiri glanced at her mother before looking back out at the sea while she said, "I am glad Neteyam is at peace, but I still miss him."
Mo'at looked at the rest of the family as she said, "Neteyam lived a meaningful life and now he is with Eywa. You must focus on the safety of the rest of your children."
Neytiri looked at the rest of her family as well as she said, "I also wish that my children could have closure with their brother's loss. Jake and I found peace when we saw Neteyam with Eywa, but Lo'ak, Kiri, and Tuk have not found such peace."
Mo'at looked at Neytiri and suggested, "Why don't you take them to see him?"
Neytiri looked at her mother with a bit of surprise and interest, she said nothing as she thought and she did like the idea. She went to Jake and told them about Mo'at's suggestion and he believed it was a good idea for the kids. The next day, they told Kiri, Lo'ak, and Tuk their idea of going to the Spirit Tree of the Metkayina to see Neteyam within Eywa. Kiri was disappointed that she could not go, because she could not risk another seizure, and Lo'ak expressed his reluctance, claiming he was not ready to see his brother again. Tuk loved the idea and Neytiri agreed to take her while the rest of the family stayed home, along with Mo'at.
Late in the afternoon, Neytiri and Tuk prepared to leave when Jake told Tuk, "Be good for your brother."
She smiled and nodded while Neytiri held Kiri and sincerely said, "We will give your love to Neteyam."
Kiri smiled at Neytiri as she said, "Thanks mom."
Neytiri let go of her and looked at Lo'ak as he said, "Tell him I said 'hi'."
Neytiri smiled fondly as she pressed her forehead against his, then Tuk hopped and happily said, "Mom! Let's go! Come on!"
Neytiri chuckled as she walked to her youngest daughter while Jake said, "Tuk, he's not going anywhere."
Tuk smiled excitedly as she said, "I know but I can't wait to see him! Let's go!"
Neytiri smiled as Tuk took her hand and they both jumped into the water when an Ilu swam to them and they rode it.
They rode to the Cove of the Ancestors as they swam at the surface while Tuk happily said, "I can't believe I'm going to see Neteyam!"
Neytiri looked down at Tuk as she said, "Remember Tuk, your brother is at peace and we are here to give our love to him."
Tuk smiled happily as she nodded and said, "I know."
They then held their breath as their Ilu dived down and brought them closer to the Spirit Tree as it slowed down and floated in the water. Neytiri held Tuk's arm as they swam together, using the breathing exercises they were taught and smiled as they came to the Spirit Tree. They both floated in the water as Tuk smiled up at her mother, who had her left arm around her when they both took their queues. They connected their queues to the roots of the Spirit Tree and closed their eyes as they connected with Eywa. Neytiri found herself back in the forests where she and her family used to live; she was a bit confused as she did not see Neteyam anywhere, nor did she see Tuk. She noticed that she felt different and looked down to see that she was heavily pregnant, as her belly was noticeably larger and she could feel a baby inside her. She looked out and saw the old hut where she once lived with Jake and their children and she noticed her son Neteyam, as an eight-year-old boy. Neytiri smiled lovingly as she remembered the last time she and Jake connected with Neteyam's spirit and realized what was happening. She looked down at her baby bump, which she realized contained Tuk as she felt her moving and kicking inside.
In her mind, she could hear Tuk's voice say, "Mom, what's happening? Where am I? Why is it so dark?"
Neytiri smiled as she caressed her belly and said, "You are in my womb Tuk. Eywa has brought us back to home, when Tuk was young and before you were born. You and I are bonded like Ronal and her child."
She felt Tuk move inside her and kick a bit as she heard her say, "Why? How can I see Neteyam in here?"
Neytiri chuckled in amusement as she said, "Look through my eyes Tuk. We are bonded, now see through me."
Inside Neytiri's womb, Tuk was an unborn baby floating in a fetal position with her eyes opened, but she listened to her mother and closed her eyes. She could see through Neytiri's eyes as Neytiri kept looking down at her swollen belly and kept caressing it with her right hand.
Neytiri heard Tuk in her mind as she said, "I can see! Wait, is that me?"
Neytiri kept rubbing the front of her baby bump as she said, "Yes Tuk. That is you."
Inside her womb, Tuk still had her eyes closed as she moved her foot out and kicked like a baby, and Neytiri could feel her kicking against her hand as she smiled. In her womb, Tuk smiled as she could feel her mother's hand outside the womb while she kicked again.
In her mind, Neytiri heard Tuk happily say, "I like it in here."
Neytiri chuckled as she held her belly and said, "I like having you in there."
In the real world, Tuk was floating in the water with her eyes closed as she smiled, while Neytiri did the same and gently hugged her with one arm. In their shared vision, Tuk kept looking through Neytiri's eyes as she saw her mother's belly where she was comfortably floating in.
Neytiri caressed her belly for another moment as she felt Tuk's happiness, then she heard Tuk say, "This is nice, but where's Neteyam."
Neytiri tilted her head up and saw her oldest son as an eight-year-old boy again as she said, "There."
Tuk could see Neteyam through Neytiri's eyes as they watched Neteyam holding a basket full of fruit in his arms.
Neytiri heard Tuk excitedly said, "I see him! I see him!"
Neytiri smiled as she happily said, "Yes, that is him."
She heard Tuk comment, "He looks so small."
Neytiri glanced down at her belly as she said, "That is how old he was when you were born."
She then heard Tuk's voice eagerly said, "Go! Let's go to him!"
Neytiri chuckled as she walked over to Neteyam, carrying Tuk in her swollen belly; Neteyam looked up at his pregnant mother as she stood in front of him.
She smiled down lovingly as she said, "Hello Neteyam."
Neteyam looked up at her as he smiled and said, "Hi mom."
In her mind Neytiri heard Tuk's voice excitedly say, "Neteyam! It's me, Tuk! I'm in here! I'm so happy to see you!"
Neteyam glanced at Neytiri's belly as he asked, "How's the baby?"
Neytiri had a warm smile as she said, "She's wonderful."
She kept looking at Neteyam as she heard Tuk's voice say, "He can't hear me?"
In her mind, Neytiri replied, "No Tuk. Only I can hear you. You are not speaking with your mouth, you are speaking with your mind."
Neytiri could feel Tuk's disappointment but then she said, "Your sister is very happy to see you."
Neteyam smiled as he placed his right hand on Neytiri's belly and said, "I'm happy to see you too."
Tuk then kicked inside the womb and Neytiri could hear her giggling in her mind as she felt Neteyam's hand outside.
Neytiri smiled down at Neteyam as she happily said, "Lo'ak says 'hi' and Kiri sends you her love."
Neteyam was a bit confused but smiled as he said, "Well, tell them I said 'thank you'."
Neytiri smiled lovingly as she said, "I will."
In her mind, Neytiri could hear Tuk crying a bit, prompting her to caress her swollen belly to comfort her. Neytiri then went up to the hut with Neteyam while Tuk happily rode inside Neytiri's womb, comfortably enjoying the ride. In the real world, Neytiri and Tuk's eyes were still closed as they both smiled and remained connected to the Spirit Tree, which supplied them with oxygen so they could stay longer. Within Eywa, Neytiri sat with Neteyam on the floor of their treehouse as they both ate fruit, while Tuk enjoyed her time in Neytiri's womb and with her late brother.
When they finished eating Neteyam looked at Neytiri's belly as he curiously asked, "What will we name my little sister when she comes out."
Neytiri smiled with pride as she said, "Her name will be Tuktirey, but we may call her Tuk for short."
Neteyam looked at his mother's belly and smiled as he said, "Tuk, I like that name."
Neytiri felt Tuk move inside her as she heard her say, "I love you Neteyam."
Neytiri smiled at Neteyam as she said, "Your baby sister loves you very much."
Neteyam smiled as he laid against Neytiri's belly and felt Tuk inside as he said, "I love you too little sister."
Neytiri smiled tenderly as she looked down at Neteyam with his head against her belly as she heard Tuk say, "Momma, hug him for me."
Neytiri happily complied as she gave Neteyam a small tender hug, in her womb Tuk happily floated with a smile on her face as her eyes stayed shut.
Neytiri stopped hugging her son and Neteyam looked down at her belly as he happily said, "I can't wait to meet you Tuk."
In her mind, Neytiri heard the sound of Tuk crying, so she looked down caressed her belly to comfort her again.
She kept caressing her belly as she looked at Neteyam and said, "You are a wonderful brother."
Sometime later, in the real world, Tuk and Neytiri's eyes opened as they disconnected their queues and swam to the Ilu.
They rode the Ilu to the surface, and as they swam Tuk looked up at Neytiri and said, "That was amazing, but I miss Neteyam already."
Neytiri looked down at her and patted her as she said, "I know Tuk, but he is at peace and we must let him rest in peace."
Tuk looked ahead as she sadly said, "I still miss him."
Shortly after, they returned to their hut and Jake asked, "How was it?"
Tuk happily hugged her father and looked up at him as she said, "It was great! We got to see Neteyam and spend time back home!"
Neytiri smiled as she looked at Lo'ak and Kiri and said, "He thanks you for your love."
Kiri and Lo'ak both smiled while Mo'at went to Tuk and happily picked her up with a loving smile as Tuk giggled happily. Later that night, while they were eating dinner Neytiri and Tuk told the others about their time with Neteyam within Eywa.
Lo'ak looked at Tuk as he and Spider laughed as Lo'ak said, "Wait, you were in mom's womb?"
Tuk looked at them with an annoyed expression as she said, "Yeah, and I liked it!"
Spider smiled as he teasingly said, "Makes sense. A little baby all snug in her momma's tummy."
Kiri looked at them both as she defensively said, "Leave her alone."
While she said this Tuk stuck her tongue out at them, then they looked at the adults as Jake said, "But you did see Neteyam."
Tuk smiled as she happily said, "Yeah, I saw him through mom's eyes. I couldn't talk to him but mom told him stuff for me."
Lo'ak then curiously asked, "But why was Neteyam a kid and why were you in mom's womb in the first place?"
Mo'at had a tender smile as she said, "Eywa allowed Neteyam to re-experience one of his happiest moments with his mother and Tuktirey."
Tuk looked at her grandmother as she asked, "That was one of his happiest memories?"
Kiri smiled as she put her arm around Tuk and lovingly said, "Yes Tuk-Tuk. When mom was pregnant with you we were all very excited that we were going to have a new little sister. The day you were born is a day I will never forget."
Tuk turned to Lo'ak and Spider while Lo'ak smiled fondly and nodded in agreement and Spider had a warm smile on his face.
Neytiri smiled proudly as she said, "It was one of the proudest moments of my life."
Tuk showed a warm smile before she frowned while she said, "Thanks everyone, but I still miss Neteyam."
She looked at Mo'at as she wisely said, "Do not lament his absence little one. Neteyam may be gone but he is still connected to all of you. All of your roots are connected to the same tree and you nothing will ever destroy that."
They all looked at her with warm smiles as Tuk said, "Thanks grandma."
The next morning; the Sullys were on the beach as Mo'at was with her ikran as she prepared for her journey back to the Omaticaya clan. She turned to see her family coming toward her and she noticed Tuk was the first one to come as she came to her with her arms out.
Mo'at kneeled down and hugged her while Tuk sadly said, "Goodbye grandma. I wish you didn't have to go."
Mo'at kept hugging Tuk as she sincerely said, "I know Tuk. So do I. But the clan needs its Tsahik. I will miss you."
She pulled away from Tuk and kissed her on the forehead before standing up and turning to Kiri and hugging her.
As she hugged her Kiri said, "Goodbye grandmother."
She pulled back but kept holding Kiri as she said, "Goodbye Kiri. You are a special girl with a wonderful gift. Never let anyone tell you otherwise."
Kiri smiled and nodded as she said, "Thank you grandmother."
Mo'at leaned a little closer as she said, "And take care of Tuk."
Kiri glanced at Tuk as she nodded and proudly said, "I will."
Mo'at went and hugged Lo'ak before she pulled back and proudly said, "I'm glad to see you have found a girl as wonderful as Tsireya."
Lo'ak smiled as he said, "Thanks."
She passed Spider and they both smiled as they waved at each other, then Mo'at went to Jake and Neytiri. Mo'at put her hand on Jake's shoulder as a sign of respect, then she hugged Neytiri as they both shut their eyes.
They pulled away from each other and Mo'at said, "Remain strong and protect your family."
Neytiri nodded seriously and then Mo'at got on her ikran and rode it as they flew away, and the Sully family all waved "goodbye" to her.
Author's note: I wish they gave Mo'at a bigger part in "The Way of Water". I understand she couldn't have a huge part because they left the village, but I would've liked to see more moments between her and the kids. I'm sure she missed them all when they left and I feel like of all the kids Tuk probably missed her the most. I could picture her visiting them maybe, especially after Neteyam died. She would want to pay her respects and comfort them. I hope she appears in the third movie. Some of you might think the part with Tuk in Neytiri's womb was weird, but I thought it would be cute and sweet, also a little bit funny. At the age they depicted of Neteyam being in the flashbacks and the end, I feel like either Tuk was born or was in Neytiri's womb. Either way I'd say that was around the time Tuk was born. I figured it would make more sense than having Tuk as a baby if we were going to see him as a kid again when they saw his spirit. Please review.
