[Misty is being chased chasing by Opaline in her Eggmobile.]
Misty Brightdawn: You can't lose me, Arcana!
Opaline Arcana: OPALINE ARCANA! You know my full name is Opaline Arcana You do that on purpose!
Misty Brightdawn: Do what, Arcana?
[The chase continues, but Misty is eventually forced to stop, teetering on the edge of a cliff.]
Misty Brightdawn: Who-o-oa!
[Misty manages to get back to safety. The camera zooms out to reveal Opaline way up above.]
Opaline Arcana: It all ends here, old friend. Prepare to be destroyed by Burnbot!
[The camera shifts to reveal Burnbot.]
Misty Brightdawn: So what, he's gonna burn me with flamethrowers or something?
Opaline Arcana: Flamethrower? Well... no...?
Misty Brightdawn: Oh, uh, acid? Incendiary grenades?!
Opaline Arcana: No-no-no! the li- claws! He has claws! Very painful claws!
Misty Brightdawn: Then you should have called him "Clawbot" or "The Lacerator" or "Pinch-a-tron 9000." But "Burnbot"? I mean, that's just false advertising!
Opaline Arcana: I name the robots, Sonic! Burnbot, attack!
[Burnbot jumps down and starts speeding towards Misty who runs in the same direction, keeping directly across from Burnbot. Overhead, Sunny flies by in her plane.]
Sunny Starscout: Blue Leader, this is Sunny Skies, I have eyes on Burnbot. He's on the move! Over.
Misty Brightdawn: Thanks, Sunny. Initiate "Speeding Swing Surprise."
[Sunny dives her plane into the canyon, sending Opaline into a spin. Sunny activates her Enerbeam. Misty and Burnbot leap at each other as the scene goes into slow motion. Sunny flies by, throwing the beam to Misty who catches the beam, swings around on it, and delivers a kick to Burnbot, launching him into the canyon wall. Misty lands on the canyon floor across from Burnbot. Eggman flies down.]
Opaline Arcana: Get up, get up, get up!
[Burnbot climbs to its feet, then notices Sunny's plane flying overhead. It fires one of its claws at the plane, damaging the wing. The plane goes into a spin.]
Misty Brightdawn: Bail, Sunny, bail!
[Sunny pulls the eject lever, only for it to break off in her hoove Misty prepares to rush to help, but is cut off by Burnbot. Misty dodges one of Burnbot's claws, then sees a large rock poised over it. Misty jumps over another of Burnbot's attacks, and spins into the rock, dropping it on Burnbot. Misty leaps up to the top of the canyon.]
Misty Brightdawn: Sunny, no!
[Sunny's plane crashes to the ground and explodes. Misty looks on in shock, then races over.]
Opaline Arcana: We'll be back, Misty!
[Opaline activates an electromagnet to pick up Burnbot.]
Opaline Arcana: Oof! You ARE heavy. Seriously, Burnbot, you could stand to burn a few calories.
[Opaline flies off with Burnbot. Misty pulls Sunny out of the wrecked plane, puts her on the ground, and listens at her chest. A heartbeat confirms that Sunny is still alive. Misty looks relieved.]
Misty Brightdawn: Keep resting, pal. I'll get you home. [Picks Sunny up] I promise I'll never let anything like this happen to you again.
[Misty walks off with Sunny.]
[Scene Change: Sunny's House, day.]
[The camera is on a picture of Misty and Sunny fishing, with Misty holding up a large fish. The camera then pans to a picture of Misty and Sunny playing a video game together. Cut to Sunny who is laying on the couch, bandaged up. She opens her eyes, then sits up.]
Sunny Starscout: Misty?
Misty Brightdawn: Hey, buddy! How ya feelin'?
Sunny Starscout: I'm great! Ready to get back in action!
Misty Brightdawn: Yeah, uh... about that, um... I've got some great news! You, my friend, are taking early retirement!
Sunny Starscout: "Early retirement"?
Misty Brightdawn: Yeah, you're gonna be able to play lots of golf and spend time with the grandkids!
Sunny Starscout: I don't have grandkids!
Misty Brightdawn: Well, now's your chance to get some! Trust me, it's for the best. [hugs Sunny to her surprise] I'll see ya around, pal. [Runs off]
Sunny Starscout: [confused]...Wait, what just happpened?
Misty Brightdawn: [re-enters the door] I fired you. [leaves again]
Sunny Starscout: Okay, just checking.
[Scene Change: Seaside Island, beach, day.]
Misty Brightdawn: Don't look at me like that. I did what I had to do. [The camera reveals that she is talking to flyers she's holding] And now we're going to make sure Sunny stays retired. [hangs one of the flyers on a palm tree]
[Scene Change: Opaline's Dark Castle, day.]
Opaline Arcana: [is reading one of the flyers] "Sidekick tryouts. All qualified candidates welcome. Best candidate gets the job. Resume and references required." Can you believe this?
Orbot: A resume and references aren't unreasonable, Boss
Cubot: Especially in this job market!
[Opaline slams her hoove down, scaring Orbot and Cubot into running in circles. Opaline crumples the flyer and throws it at Orbot and Cubot.]
Opaline Arcana: What fool would want to be Misty's sidekick? Spending every day with her... Enjoying her friendship and respect... Not me, that's for sure! ...Unless...
[Opaline scratches her chin. The camera zooms in on his face, then sinks down to her hooves.]
Opaline Arcana: Lousy security camera!
[Opaline lifts the camera back to her face]
[Scene Change: Misty's Shack, day.]
[A line is forming outside. Inside, Misty is sitting with a clipboard and a pencil]
Pipp Petals: I'm Princess Petals, and I'll be auditioning for the part of sidekick. [She blinks casually]
Misty Brightdawn: Pipp, I know who you are.
Pipp Petals: Great, because I am fine with nepotism. Oh, and under special skills, you can add juggling and singing. [singing] Oh, when the Saints go marching in [scatters]
Misty Brightdawn: Next!
[A random purple Pegasus is the next interviewee]
Random pony: My greatest weakness? Actually, it is my incredible cowardice.
[Pipp Petals for some reason, is being interviewed again.]
Pipp Petals: Oh, improv? I love improv! [mocks Italian accent] I'm a crazy pizza man! Who juggles and sings! [starts juggling and singing When The Saints Go Marching In again as Misty pushes her out.]
[Sprout is the next interviewer, but for some reason, he's the one holding the clipboard and pencil.]
Sprout Cloverleaf: I think you'd be a great sidekick for me.
Misty Brightdawn: No, Sprout I'm looking for somepony to be MY sidekick.
Sprout Cloverleaf: We'd have to change your name, though. I'm thinking... "Sprout Junior."
[Misty grabs back the clipboard and crosses something out.]
[The next interviewee is a hooded figure.]
Misty Brightdawn: Okay, last question. What would you do in a no-win situation?
Hooded figure: If I'm with you, there's no such thing as a "no-win situation."
Misty Brightdawn: Huh. You really get it, new girl?
Hooded figure: I do get it. But I'm not a new pony In reality, I am none other than...
[The hooded figure tries to remove her hood, but starts struggling with it and eventually falls to the floor, revealing herself as...]
Misty Brightdawn: Sunny?! You cannot be my sidekick!
Sunny Starscout: [holds up the flyer] "All qualified candidates welcome. Best candidate gets the job." I'm a lock! Unless there's something you're not telling me...
Misty Brightdawn: Fine! But get ready for the tryout of your life!
Opaline Arcana (offscreen): Hello.
Sunny Starscout: Arcana?
[The camera pulls back to reveal Opaline.]
Misty Brightdawn: What are you doing here?!
Opaline Arcana: My name is Opaline Arcana and I'm here about the sidekick position. [Holds up a resume]
Misty Brightdawn: Wh- but you're my arch-nemesis!
Opaline Arcana: That's true. But I could be a valuable asset to your organization. For example, I'm an Alicorn like her [points to Sunny] Not just like her a PROPER one but still!
Misty Brightdawn: You can't be my sidekick.
Opaline Arcana: [holds out the flyer] "All qualified candidates welcome"?
Misty Brightdawn: Okay, fine. You both can move on to Round Two. But neither one of you is going to be my sidekick.
Sunny Starscout: Who else is there?
[An unexpected random Pegasus pony pops back in the doorway]
Random pony: Actually, do you validate parking?
Misty Brightdawn: Congratulations, you're the third candidate!
Random pony: Actually...
[Scene Change: Seaside Island, jungle, day.]
[Opaline, Sunny and the random Pegasus pony are standing on hoverboards.]
Misty Brightdawn: All right. Being my sidekick is no easy task. This competition will test your strength, stamina, and endurance. The winner will be whoever makes it-
Random pony: Actually, it's "whomever."
Misty Brightdawn: [annoyed by the random's correction] The winner will be whomever makes it through all the unimaginable hardships and brings me the red flag I planted atop the incredibly dangerous, but inaccurately named, Mount Safety.
Random pony: Actually--
[The random Pegasus is pushed by Opaline and goes down the hill, screaming all the way down. Opaline and Sunny soon follow, and Misty takes off to follow and watch the race. As they race through the jungle, Opaline activates the bladed seekers on her hoverboard, and they go after Sunny who manages to avoid them, but ends up crashing into the random pony. After clinging to Sunny for a while, the random Pegasus loses his grip and falls into the jungle below.]
Random pony: Actually, I'm okay!
[The Seekers continue to chase Sunny, but Sunny puts on the brakes of her hoverboard, and the seekers slam into one another. Sunny gets back into motion, and soon stops at the clearing, where her plane and Misty wait.]
Misty Brightdawn: What's going on here?
Sunny Starscout: Nothing I can't handle!
[Sunny jumps into her plane and takes off. Opaline enters her Eggmobile and is right behind Sunny. Misty watches them go, then runs after them.]
Random pony: Actually, I'm just gonna lie down in the fetal position and weep.
[Scene Change: Airspace in front of Mount Safety, day.]
Sunny Starscout: Give up, Arcana! This job is rightfully mine!
Opaline Arcana: I'm not here to be Misty's sidekick, you nincompoop! I'm here to get rid of you both once and for all!
[Opaline activates her electromagnet and picks up Burnbot from the jungle. Misty sees this and picks up the pace. Burnbot fires its claws at Sunny's plane, finally catching it in the wing again. Sunny's plane goes out of control again. Misty picks up the pace further, but has to cut back as she goes sliding across the ice of a frozen lake. Sunny's plane is in the middle of it, broken partway through the ice.]
Misty Brightdawn: Sunny!
Sunny Starscout: Misty, I'm stuck!
[From above, Burnbot fires its claws, which turn into buzzsaws that cut into the ice, cracking it further. Misty jumps out to the plane, and helps the struggling Sunny out of the cockpit. They manage to get clear just as the plane sinks into the water, and land a ways away.]
Misty Brightdawn: Sunny… I didn't really wanna fire you. I was just trying to protect you.
Sunny Starscout: How? By putting me in more danger?
Misty Brightdawn: The plan had holes!
[Misty helps Sunny up.]
Opaline Arcana: Oh, Misty! I have one last surprise for you! I took your advice! Burnbot can burn things!
[Burnbot fires a pair of fireballs that create a ring of fire around Misty and Sunny melting and cracking the ice. Sunny manages to fly up, but Misty winds up sliding down the ice into the water and starts thrashing around.]
Misty Brightdawn: I can't swim!
[Sunny flies down and grabs Misty trying to pull her up, but fails.]
Sunny Starscout: You're waterlogged! I can't lift you!
Misty Brightdawn: Don't worry about me! [tries to let go] Get out of here!
Sunny Starscout: That's not how sidekicks do!
[Sunny grabs onto Misty again, and is pulled under with her. However, Sunny manages to turn into an Alicorn and uses her wings to lift herself and Misty and back up and out of the water and into the air. Sunny lets go of Misty, who goes into a spin and slams into Burnbot. Burnbot's impact cracks the ice under it, causing it to sink into the water. Sunny catches Misty and they fly into the jungle together.]
Opaline Arcana: I'll be back! With a new robot! Who has an accurate name! And super laser eyes! And he'll feed me ham! Evil ham.
[Opaline flies off in her Eggmobile.]
[Scene Change: Seaside Island, beach, sunset.]
[It is nearing sunset. Misty and Sunny are sitting together.]
Sunny Starscout: About this job... What're the hours like?
Misty Brightdawn: Well, it's seven days a week. But you get your own plane.
[Sunny smiles.]
[Scene Change: Misty's Shack, sunset.]
[Pipp is angrily ringing the bell of Misty's shack.]
Pipp Petals: Lemme in! I demand a call-back!
[Sprout walks past, looking depressed.]
Pipp Petals: Sprout, What's wrong?
Sprout Cloverleaf: [sighs] Sprout Junior isn't workin' out.
Pipp Petals: Oh... so you're saying you need a...
[Pipp follows Sprout]
Pipp Petals: [mocks Italian voice] I'm a crazy pizza man! Who juggles and sings! [sings When The Saints Go Marching In]
Sprout Cloverleaf: Prout-alina!
