CHAPTER 1
-And option 3?
-Come away with me. Right now.
Ethan was surprised by her answer. He wanted to go with her, but he was afraid of what could happen if Lane was free. Ethan thought about Ilsa's offer twice.
He turned off the device by which he was connected with Benji, Brandt and Luther. He didn't want them to listen to the conversation since it was a little private. He slowly shook his head, looking at her with a hint of sadness.
-I can't.
Ilsa looked at him confused. Se thought that he wanted to escape this nightmare. They had never been rewarded or thanked for all the times they had saved the world. She thought he was going to say yes.
-Ethan, I thought that-
-I want to. But I have to finish this mission. Lane can't be free. He could do anything he wanted if we don't stop him.
Ilsa looked down at the table. He was right. Lane was dangerous and they couldn't let him free. She thought about what to say now. When she knew her answer, she looked at him convinced. She wanted to help him.
-I'm coming with you.
Ethan looked at her surprised but worried. He didn't want to see Ilsa in that mess again. She had already spent two years of her life with Lane. Ethan didn't want her to spend another minute with him. But he knew that she was the only one who could help them. He looked at her straight in the eyes. Ethan had fallen in love with them from the first moment he saw them in that basement in London, even without knowing her. He gave a small smile and nodded slowly at her.
-I know.
She smiled, happy that she was now going to work with him. He put the intercom back in his ear to communicate with his team again.
-Lane gave you a message for me.
Ilsa put a phone on the table and handed it to Ethan. At the moment Ethan touched the phone, his intercom and his team's made an annoying sound. They looked in the direction of Benji. He wasn't there. They had taken him. Ethan turned on his cell phone and a live video of the parking lot appeared. They had to go get him. Ethan approached to Ilsa.
-Stay with Luther. We'll be back with Benji.
But when they went to the parking lot to get Benji, the van was already gone. Luther went down with Ilsa to pick them up. Ethan's cell phone vibrated. It was Lane. He had asked him to unlock the disc and give it to him in exchange for Benji at midnight.
They went back to their safehouse with Ilsa. Luther and Brant stayed in the kitchen's table planning what would they do next while Ethan and Ilsa went to his bedroom. They were also considering what they would do that night. They were going to rescue Benji, of course, but they hadn't talked about what Ilsa would do.
The two were sitting on one side of the bed, looking at the floor, thinking in silence. In the end, Ilsa decided to break it. She couldn't stay quiet any longer. She had to tell Ethan the obvious.
-Ethan... I have to go back to Lane.
-No -Ethan looked at her shaking his head. He didn't want her to go back, with all the times that she betrayed Lane's confidence, Lane wouldn't let her escape this time.- You can't. With all of the times that you saved me, he doesn't trust you anymore. He even might kill you if the plan doesn't work out.
-It's going to be the last time and the plan is going to go fine. But I have to go back now. You know it.
Ethan put his and on hers and he caressed it. She looked at him with pity. She was afraid that that was the last time she was going to see Ethan. So was he.
-Go. We will take the disc and get Benji. And you too. We will run away after that. I promise.
She let out a big sigh and approached the bedroom's door to open it and get back to Lane one more time.
It was already midnight and Ethan had the unlocked disc. Brandt and Luther were at a parking waiting for Benji.
Ethan turned on his phone and dialed a number.
-I already have what you want. Where do I go?
