Notes: Gilmore Girls is a WB/CW show that was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino. This story is meant to serve as an inspiration to others who want to come out. If your loved ones don't accept you for coming out, you should still feel proud of who you are. Being gay is nothing to be ashamed of.

Rory Gilmore and Paris Geller had been in a relationship for almost six months. Although they started off as rivals, they had entered a very loving relationship at the age of twenty. Rory was thankful that her mother, Lorelai, was very supportive and accepting of Rory's new relationship. Rory's ex-boyfriends, Dean, Jess and Logan, were very jealous of Paris. They tried to convince Paris to leave Rory, but none of their petty attempts at ruining Rory and Paris's relationship worked.

One morning, Rory and Paris were hanging out in Paris's bedroom. Rory was wearing bat pajamas and Paris was wearing monkey pajamas. Rory read a book, while Paris brushed her hair. Rory and Paris's six-month anniversary was coming up in less than a week. Rory wanted to be excited about that, but the anniversary was on a Friday. On Friday nights, Rory was expected to have dinner with her grandparents. Rory nervously fiddled with her book, while looking at Paris and saying, "Well, our anniversary is coming up."

Paris used to be a much grumpier person. However, after she had started dating Rory, she had been smiling more than ever before. She smiled at Rory, while saying, "I'm really looking forward to spending the day with you on Friday."

Rory said, "Me, too, but there's a problem."

Paris had a concerned look on her face, while asking, "What's wrong?"

Rory explained, "My grandparents want to have dinner with me on Friday. It's a weekly tradition."

Paris said, "Since I love following the rules, I shouldn't be saying this, but can't you break that tradition? I mean, you would only be missing one evening."

Rory stood up and started pacing around the room, while saying, "I wish things could be that simple, but they aren't. On the day we started dating, it was a Friday, but my grandparents were away on business. Because of that, my mom and I didn't have to go to their house for dinner. However, this Friday, they will both be at home. If I didn't show up, I'd be in trouble."

Paris replied, "You should be allowed to miss a few dinners. Can't your mom entertain your grandparents for one evening?"

Rory shook her head and said, "There's no way that would work. My mom and my grandparents don't get along. In fact, my mom thinks that my grandparents love me more than they love her."

Paris said, "Well, since this is our anniversary, I'm assuming that your grandparents wouldn't mind you not attending one of your weekly visits."

Rory replied, "I don't know about that."

Paris responded, "It's worth a try."

Rory got out her cellphone, so that she could call Lorelai. Lorelai was having her daily cup of coffee at Luke's Diner. Rory patiently waited for Lorelai to answer the phone.

After a long moment of the phone ringing, Lorelai finally answered the phone. She said, "Hi, Rory. I was drinking a large of sip of coffee when you called."

Rory replied, "I figured that was the case."

Lorelai drank a few more sips of coffee before asking, "What's up?"

Rory explained to Lorelai about how she wanted to be with Paris on Friday, because it was their six-month anniversary. Rory asked, "What am I supposed to do? Grandma and Grandpa will likely get upset if I don't show up to their house on Friday. Can you talk to them for me?"

Lorelai raised an eyebrow, while asking, "You want me to talk to my parents? You know that I would do just about anything for you, but don't you think that's a pretty unreasonable request?"

Rory answered, "Not really."

Lorelai sighed and said, "I'll talk to them."

Rory smiled and replied, "Thanks, Mom."

After Rory got off the phone, Paris looked at Rory and said, "So, what's going on?"

Rory explained, "My mom will talk to my grandparents."

Paris said, "That sounds good."

Rory replied, "Try not to be too hopeful. I love my grandparents, but they're not the most understanding people."

Paris heard Rory's stomach growling, so she said, "Even if I didn't graduate from Chilton, I would be able to tell that you're hungry."

Rory said, "Mom's probably having breakfast at Luke's Diner. Maybe I should go there, too."

Paris replied, "I suppose I could join you. I mean, if you want me to join you."

Rory lovingly stared at Paris, while saying, "Of course I want you to join me." Paris smiled and blushed.

After getting on their day clothes, Rory and Paris went into Rory's car and started heading towards Luke's Diner. On the way there, they flirted and joked around. After arriving at the diner, they held hands while walking inside.

Rory looked around and saw Lorelai drinking another cup of coffee. Rory had an amused expression on her face, while asking, "How many cups of coffee have you had?"

Lorelai answered, "This is my third cup of the day."

Rory said, "It's still morning."

Lorelai replied, "This is my third cup of the morning. That might sound like too much, but it's not."

Luke Danes walked by, while saying, "It is too much."

Rory looked at Luke, while asking, "How can you let Mom have so much coffee?"

Luke said, "I didn't want to give her so much coffee, but she insisted. Besides, I'm hoping that I run out of coffee before Taylor gets here. The less coffee that guy gets, the less energy he'll have for dumb ideas."

Rory looked at Lorelai, while asking, "Did you call my grandparents?"

Lorelai sighed and replied, "I did."

Rory asked, "How did that go?" Lorelai grunted and started drinking more coffee.

Paris said, "I don't mean to be rude, Lorelai, but can't you answer Rory's question?"

Lorelai replied, "I suppose I should. However, I think I'll need a fourth cup of coffee."

Luke said, "You're not getting more coffee."

Lorelai replied, "If you don't pour me another cup, I'll get Taylor to come by here." Luke reluctantly gave Lorelai another cup of coffee.

After several minutes of Rory and Paris waiting for Lorelai to finish her fourth cup of coffee, Lorelai said, "I told Grandma and Grandpa that you want to skip dinner, because of your six-month anniversary. They do think that a six-month anniversary is an important event."

Rory and Paris smiled, while Rory said, "That's good to hear."

Lorelai replied, "I'm afraid that things aren't so simple."

Rory asked, "What do you mean?"

Lorelai explained, "Grandma and Grandpa are okay with you missing dinner on Friday. However, they want you to come to their house for an afternoon snack on Friday."

Rory said, "An afternoon snack?"

Lorelai replied, "I know that you probably want to spend the whole day with Paris, but the afternoon thing shouldn't take too long. If you want, I can eat all of the snacks, so that the event will go by faster."

Paris looked at Rory, while saying, "Well, it sounds like we'll get the anniversary evening that we wanted, so everything will work out."

Lorelai started looking nervous, while saying, "My parents have another requirement."

Rory asked, "What is it?"

Lorelai said, "They expect you to bring Paris with you on Friday. After all, they've never met her."

Rory nervously replied, "Oh, no."

Paris could tell that Rory was getting scared, so she put her arm around Rory and said, "It'll be okay. I know that I have been a difficult person to socialize with. However, when we're with your parents, I'll be on my best behavior."

Rory replied, "That's not what I'm concerned about."

Paris asked, "What are you concerned about?"

Rory said, "Well, my grandparents do know that I've been dating someone, but they assume that I'm dating a guy."

Paris replied, "Then you'll just them that you're dating a girl."

Rory said, "I wish it were that simple."

Paris started looking upset, while asking, "Why wouldn't it be that simple?"

Rory tried to word herself as carefully as she could, while saying, "Well, my parents are very old fashioned. They have a different way of looking at the world than we do. For the most part, I trust and respect them. However, I'm not sure how they'd feel about me dating someone of my own gender."

Paris replied, "I see. So, what you're saying is that you're ashamed to let your grandparents know who you're actually dating."

Rory said, "That's not true. I'm proud to be dating you."

Paris replied, "Oh, really? If you were so proud, you wouldn't keep my gender a secret for half a year."

Rory said, "I wanted to tell my grandparents the truth, but I was afraid to. I knew that I had to be delicate with how I talked to them."

Paris sarcastically replied, "Well, congratulations, Rory, for delicately keeping the truth from your family."

Rory said, "I just didn't want to hurt your feelings."

Paris replied, "Well, you hurt mine." Paris started storming out of the diner.

Lorelai nudged Rory, while saying, "You better go follow her." Rory nodded and started walking out.

Luke had a concerned look on his face, while looking at Lorelai and asking, "Is everything okay? I know that your family often gets into dramatic situations, so it's hard to tell when things are going okay."

Lorelai replied, "Friday afternoon might be a difficult event. Do you think that you could come along to smooth things over?"

Luke raised his eyebrows, while saying, "Smooth things over? Lorelai, I'm not a very smooth guy."

Lorelai replied, "That's for sure, but in this situation, your help might be needed."

Luke looked confused, while asking, "What am I supposed to do?"

Lorelai said, "Come to the afternoon event with me, Rory and Paris. If things get heated between Rory and my parents, I'll need you to lighten the mood."

Luke replied, "I suppose I could take an afternoon off from my work. However, your parents aren't easy to please. I don't even know what to wear."

Lorelai responded, "My parents like old stuff, so just wear something ancient."

Meanwhile, Rory and Paris were standing outside of the diner. Paris looked upset, so Rory gently said, "Paris, I'm so sorry for hurting your feelings. I would never want to say anything that would upset you."

Paris replied, "Well, you haven't exactly been proving that."

Rory said, "Look, I know that things are a bit tense, but I think I know how to get my grandparents to accept you."

Paris folded her arms, while asking, "What's your plan?"

Rory said, "We could cut some of your hair and have you borrow some of Luke's old clothes. That way, my parents might think that you're a guy."

Paris could hardly believe what Rory had just suggested. She angrily stared at Rory, while asking, "Is that seriously your grand plan? You want to hide my true self, so that I can avoid offending your judgmental grandparents?"

Rory said, "Well, I thought it was a decent idea."

Paris replied, "It's not! I can't believe how ridiculous you're being. You were brave enough to ask me out, but you aren't brave enough to tell your grandparents who you're really dating? I thought you said that your grandparents loved you more than anything."

Rory said, "That might be true, but that doesn't mean that they accept every aspect of my life. I've even seen Grandma and Grandpa complain about themselves."

Paris said, "Rory, if you actually want to date somebody, you have to be honest. I told my parents that I was dating you."

Rory had a surprised look on her face, while saying, "Really?"

Paris started pacing around Rory, while saying, "I sure did. I can assure you that it wasn't easy. I nervously walked around my room for hours before getting the courage to tell them. Neither of them were thrilled about it, but I didn't care. I love you."

Rory replied, "I love you, too."

Paris said, "Frankly, you haven't been doing a good job of proving it."

Rory replied, "Then from now on, I'll start proving it. On Friday afternoon, I'll introduce you to my grandparents."

Paris angrily said, "If you expect me to dress up as a guy, you can forget about me coming."

Rory sighed and replied, "I admit that was a dumb, insensitive idea. Instead, I'll introduce my grandparents to the real you." Rory held onto Paris's hand, while saying, "I'm so sorry for ever hiding you from my grandparents or anyone else. If I'm being honest, I am scared about how they will react, because I love them and how they feel about me means a lot to me. However, if they can't accept the fact that I'm dating you, then that's too bad, because nothing they could ever say would make me leave you."

Paris started grinning, while saying, "Really?"

Rory stepped closer to Paris and gave her a big kiss. In that moment, Rory could care less if anybody walking by saw her kissing Paris. She loved Paris too much to care what anybody thought about her and Paris's relationship.

On Friday afternoon, Lorelai, Rory and Paris's rode in Lorelai's car to Emily and Richard's house. Rory and Paris were wearing nice dresses, but Lorelai was wearing an old pair of jeans and a t-shirt that was covered in coffee stains. Rory had wanted to Lorelai to wear something nicer, so that they could avoid having an argument with Emily over fashion. However, Lorelai thought that she might be able to avoid getting her parents to get mad at Rory if she made her parents mad at her.

Rory held hands with Paris, while Paris asked, "Are you sure you're ready for this?"

Rory said, "To be honest, I'm pretty nervous. However, I'm also excited to show off my girlfriend to my parents."

Paris smiled at Rory, while saying, "Thank you for not making me dress like a guy."

Rory replied, "I shouldn't have even suggested that. It was really dumb of me."

Paris responded, "It was super dumb, but I forgive you. I love you."

Rory replied, "I love you, too."

Paris said, "So, are we ready to go inside?"

Lorelai looked up the time on her cellphone, while saying, "Luke was supposed to be here by now. Maybe we should wait for him. If Grandma and Grandpa get upset, we might need him to tell a joke or whine about Taylor."

Rory said, "If we wait outside for several minutes, Grandma and Grandpa will wonder what we're doing and get mad."

Lorelai replied, "I suppose you're right. So, should we go inside?"

Rory answered, "I think we should."

A minute later, Lorelai, Rory and Paris walked into the house. Although Rory was still nervous, she continued holding hands with Paris. They looked around the dining room and saw several drinks, muffins and donuts. Lorelai ran to the coffee machine and started pouring cups of coffee for herself, while Rory and Paris both grabbed a muffin.

Richard and Emily heard the sound of coffee being poured, so they left the living room and went into the dining area. They already looked disappointed in Lorelai for drinking so much coffee. After seeing how Lorelai was dressed, they looked extra disappointed.

Emily gave Lorelai a disapproving look, while saying, "I know that you lack a proper sense of fashion, but this time, you're out of control."

Lorelai casually replied, "How I'm dressed isn't a big deal. It's not like I'm in a swimsuit."

Emily folded her arms, while saying, "If you came to our house in a swimsuit, I would ask you to leave."

Lorelai sarcastically replied, "How thoughtful of you."

Richard took a closer at Lorelai, while looking disgusted. He asked, "What's on your shirt?"

Lorelai said, "Coffee stains."

Emily replied, "What?"

Lorelai said, "This morning, I spilled coffee all over my shirt."

Emily replied, "Then why didn't you change your shirt? That's what a sensible person would have done."

Lorelai had a smug smile on her face, while responding, "I don't like being sensible. In my opinion, being sensible is what boring people do." Emily and Richard rolled their eyes.

Lorelai, Rory, Paris, Emily and Richard sat at the dining table. Rory and Paris looked a bit nervous, Richard and Emily looked tired, and Lorelai looked awfully pleased with her own mischievous behavior.

Emily looked at Lorelai, while saying, "Lorelai, this event isn't about you. It's about Rory, so I can't believe that you'd embarrass her with your absurd outfit."

Rory said, "I'm not embarrassed."

Richard replied, "You don't get easily embarrassed. That's an admirable quality to have."

Rory responded, "Thank you, Grandpa."

Suddenly, a deliveryman came into the house. To everyone's surprise, the deliveryman was dropping off a fake Egyptian tomb. The deliveryman said, "Here's your tomb."

Emily replied, "We didn't order a tomb."

The deliveryman said, "It was a gift from a Mr. Danes."

After the deliveryman walked out, the tomb started opening up. Suddenly, Luke stepped out of the tomb, while dressed as a mummy. Luke started prancing around the dining area, while grumpily saying, "I'm a mummy, so give me all of your coins."

Richard asked, "What is going on?!"

Lorelai stared at Luke, while saying, "Honey, what do you think you're doing?"

Luke said, "I'm doing what you told me to do."

Lorelai asked, "What are you talking about? I didn't tell you to pretend to be a Halloween icon."

Luke said, "That might be true, but you did tell me to wear something ancient. I found this mummy costume at an antique store. Taylor was interested in getting it for his next play. I really want to keep his play from getting made, so I bought the mummy costume."

Emily angrily looked at Lorelai, while saying, "You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Your outfit is bad enough, but you have made things far worse by bringing this creep into our house."

Luke replied, "I know that I'm not a royal prince or anything like that, but I'm a decent guy. I can assure you that I'm not a creep."

Richard responded, "Quite frankly, a grown man bursting into someone's else, while dressed up in a Halloween costume, is rather unnerving."

Luke sighed and replied, "I'm sorry."

Emily looked at Lorelai and Luke, while saying, "Both of you are acting like children. If this wasn't such an important day for Rory, I would have kicked both of you out of my house."

Richard said, "Since this is Rory's big day, perhaps we should forget about Lorelai's coffee shirt and her boyfriend's mummy costume."

Emily replied, "I suppose that would be for the best."

Richard looked over at Paris, while saying, "Rory, who is this young woman?"

Rory was still feeling a little scared, but she figured it was time for her to start being honest with her loved ones. She said, "This is my girlfriend, Paris Geller."

Richard shook hands with Paris, while saying, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Paris replied, "Thank you."

Emily said, "Girlfriend? Rory, I thought you were bringing your boyfriend over. After all, you've been keeping your new boyfriend a secret for so long."

Rory replied, "I have been keeping a lot of secrets, including the gender of the person I'm dating. I lied about having a new boyfriend. Instead, I have a new girlfriend."

Emily had a confused look on her face, while asking, "What are you talking about?"

Richard said, "Rory is dating Paris."

Emily looked at Lorelai, while asking, "How could you let her -"

Before Emily could finish speaking, Richard looked at Paris and said, "Ms. Geller, have you been taking good care of Rory?"

Paris shyly said, "Yes I have."

Richard said, "Rory, do you love Ms. Geller?"

Rory replied, "Yes I do."

Richard said, "Then I'm happy for you."

Emily was surprised about how calm Richard was being about Rory's love life, so she said, "Richard, isn't there a lot more questions that you need to ask Rory?"

Richard calmly said, "I don't think so. When Rory was a teen, I felt the need to make sure that Rory was dating the right person. However, Rory's grown into a very capable adult. I trust her. If she and Ms. Geller are in a loving relationship, that's a good thing."

Emily was going to interject, but she couldn't think of anything else to complain about. She was used to people dating people of the opposite gender, but she had to admit to herself that things were changing. After taking a moment to think things over, she smiled at Rory and Paris and gave both of them a hug.

An hour later, Lorelai had finished her twelfth cup of coffee of the day. She started dancing around the dining room, while saying, "Ah, I feel so energized."

Emily said, "Lorelai, stop dancing around. Instead of prancing around, you should be heading out."

Lorelai replied, "Heading out?"

Emily said, "Rory and her new girlfriend have an anniversary to celebrate. As for you, you and your boyfriend should go home and change."

Luke said, "I'm sorry about the mummy costume."

Lorelai replied, "I think it's cute."

A few minutes later, Emily escorted Lorelai and Luke out of the house. Emily said, "Go get yourselves some proper attire."

Luke looked at Lorelai, while saying, "I'll give you a ride to my place. I'm sure I can find a shirt that isn't covered in coffee." Lorelai nodded.

Rory and Paris started walking out of the house, while holding hands. Rory turned around and looked at Richard, while saying, "Grandpa, it means a lot to me that you're okay with me dating Paris."

Richard replied, "Of course I'm okay with it. I wouldn't be a proper grandfather if I wasn't okay with my granddaughter being happy."

Rory gave Richard a big hug, while saying, "Thank you. I love you."

Richard replied, "I love you, too."

Paris looked at Richard and Emily, while saying, "It was nice meeting you both."

Rory put her arm around Paris and looked at her grandparents, while saying, "You'll probably be seeing more of Paris from now on."

Richard replied, "We look forward to it. We want to see you be happy, so there's no need to keep Paris a secret from us."

Rory responded, "You're right." Rory pulled Paris closer to her and started kissing her.

Emily looked at Richard, while asking, "Are we going to let our granddaughter kiss in front of us? It's not a proper thing for a granddaughter to do in front of her grandparents."

Richard replied, "Then let's go inside."

Rory and Paris were so busy sharing a kiss that it took them a moment to realize that Richard and Emily had gone back inside. Rory and Paris were eager to begin their anniversary date. Now that Rory's relationship was no longer a secret, Rory and Paris both felt happier than ever before. Rory wasn't ashamed to be dating Paris. Instead, she felt honored and lucky.
