Welcome!

The idea for this generated in my brain and it won't leave me alone, so here we are again. I wanted to do something a little different from my usual harem stories and instead focus on a Fuutaro/Yots fic, as well as introducing a few OCs that will be paired with the other quints. I wanted to try a fresh spin as well as continuing my other stuff. So far I've got a couple ideas for OCs going into this, so I hope you'll enjoy coming along for the ride.

There will be slight references to other anime within this story, but I'll let you spot the little easter eggs as we go along. Untl then, thank you for reading and we shall begin

Disclaimer: I do not own Quintessential Quintuplets, I just wish to play around in their world.

Chapter One: Same Dreams, Different Path

A soft light poured through the open window, the featherlight breeze made the curtains blow in the breeze. At a singular desk at the far end of the room, a young man's face is buried into the wooden surface, a light snoozing sound emanating from him. The door to the front of the room slowly swung open and another illegible figure entered the room, laughter leaving this man's body.

"Just like you to be sleeping now of all times, c'mon Uesugi, your bride's waiting."

The man who had his face buried in the table slowly began to stir, his eyes opening and the world being drawn back into focus, "I saw it again, Uzuda."

"Oh man, not this again Uesugi," the other man, now identified to be named Uzuda said, "Look, you can go ahead and be the massive cheeseball you usually are once you've tied the knot but in case you forgot you need to get married shortly."

"Don't you ever think about it as well? The day we all met in our first year of high-school?"

This was enough to get the other man to pause, directing his gaze outside the window beside the desk Uesugi had fallen asleep on. He said nothing, but the faintest echo of a smile curved onto the young man's lips.

Flower petals burst through the air, encompassing the entire scene, shielding it from view and once the scene clears, opening up to a grassy field depicting five individuals.

One, sitting directly center atop a boulder, his shining green eyes gleam beneath the bangs of his messy blond hair, which was held down beneath a grey beanie. The second stood beside the boulder to the left hand side, had his foot up against his boulder and had just pushed a hand through his curly dark hair and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose, smirking.

The third and fourth boys, with white and green hair respectively were seated on the right hand side of the boulder, leaning their backs against it. From somewhere off screen, a final young man with dark hair shaped into a bowl-cut and golden eyes approached the group, a disapproving look on his face.

The journey starts today

The journey starts today

The curly-haired boy that had been standing with his foot on the boulder was now shown running along a cemented pathway, a large bag swinging over his back. The four heads of the other boys in the previous scene turned to face them, each with a different expression on their faces, a smile, a smirk, a look of exasperation and even a huge grin were what he was met with.

It's a big, big world, but you know where to find me

We'll be together, and we're gonna do it our way

We'll discover we believe in each other

On adventures with my friends like every day

The boy with curly hair features in the next scene as well, a yellow backdrop behind him as he stands seemingly perusing through his phone and then looks up from the device, smiling toward the camera. Even in this small glimpse he seems calm, cool and collected.

Dawn's rising over the horizon

To shine a light on what the day ahead is hiding

We'll stick together, leaping into the deep-end

The adventure only ends when another begins

In The next scene, the blond boy in the beanie is shown against the backdrop of a purple background with butterflies soaring around behind him. He readjusts his spot and spins, electric-guitar in hand as he seems to be playing along to the tune of the opening.

And we're already on our way

The journey starts today

The journey starts today

Up next the white-haired young man is shown in front of the blue backdrop, he looks slightly more reserved than the boys shown ahead of him, but like them he has a tiny smile on his face, though most of it his hidden behind the book he's reading.

Far from home, but we're never feeling lonely

Headstrong stepping headlong into the dark

Standing with his hands in his pockets, the boy in front of the green background stares forward, the first of the group shown to have little to no expression on his face. Let alone the rest of his body.

We keep 'em looking for another way to break us

Because we know if there's a will, there's a way back up

Win or lose, we can choose to be never the same

The final boy in front of a red background is shown standing, looking forward and simply does a peace sign, a relaxed little smile on his face.

And we're already on our way.

The final scene of the opening displays all five of the boys are shown standing together with varying expressions on their faces similar to the ones displayed earlier.

A soft breeze rustled through the air, the leaves of the trees above the ground swayed in the wind, across the cemented ground, a figure was walking along. His outfit consisted of black trousers, black formal shoes and a white shirt underneath a black coat that had been zipped up to around the area of his collarbone. The young man's uniqueness also came in the shape of an extra item slung over the opposite shoulder to his bag. It was made of thick leather and seemed to have a strange appearance.

"Ah, shit here we go again," the young man muttered darkly. He spotted a large building in the distance breaking through the skyline in his view and he couldn't help but to sigh. It wasn't like the young man to be negative about his environment, but it was always the same. The young man adjusted his grip on his shoulder-bag, making sure it wasn't going anywhere and turned his head back to his case. Confident they weren't going anywhere, he sighed and continued on his way.

The path he'd chosen to walk was lined with several others walking in the same direction he was, it was almost impossible to discern the individuals from each other, as each person that was walking past him was dressed in one of two outfit designs, the males were in long, dark-colored trousers and white shirts, while the females had been dressed in green skirts and white shirts.

"And there we find our school's uniform,' Junikeno thought, noticing that the others were all headed in the same direction as he was, "Least I know I'm headed in the right direction. I'd better not hang around here for too long or I'll be late."

Junikeno tightened his grip around the strap of his bags and fell into step behind the students, directing himself to the front of the school.

"Uzuda, wait up!"

The sudden call of the voice drew the young man's attention, Junikeno turning toward the sound of the voice near immediately, and he was relieved to see that he recognized the user, "It's good to see you, Yakono. How was your weekend?"

The boy was Yakono Tosuke, dressed in the uniform of Asahiyama High school, but instead of the white shirt that most of the other students were wearing, Yakono was wearing a shirt colored in deep yellow with a red star emblazoned upon the front of it, the letters 'ZOMG" underneath the star just to the left, "Bout the usual," he said casually, "Yours?"

Junikeno shrugged, "Bout the usual myself."

The two turned on heel and resumed their walk into the school. Suddenly, the two of them were forced to take a step back, hoping to avoid a collision with the projectile-like object rushing toward the two of them.

"I can't believe I'm gonna be late!"

"Whoa, Whoa, slow down Iwakita."

The comedic trail of smoke billowing behind the most recent arrival dissipated as the aforementioned Iwakita Yugori came to a screeching halt to one side of both Junikeno and Tosuke. In comparison to his companions, Yugori looked absolutely exhausted and though he could not tell entirely from appearance alone, Junikeno anticipated that the other had been running for quite some time.

"Sorry about that, Yakono, Uzuda."

The other two boys shrugged their shoulders. Seeing that Yugori had not physically crashed into either of them, there had been no harm done. Though, Tosuke did have the smallest of smirks on his face though, "One day you'll leave on time though, I'm sure of it." Though both Junikeno and Tosuke laughed, the third of their little group could only sigh. Some things would never change after all.

"Kishi not joinin' us?" Yugori said, his voice much quieter than that of Junikeno and Tosuke's, but the other two seemed used to this because both leaned forward at just the right angle to hear the words coming out of their friend's mouth.

"I don't think so," Junikeno said, "I have a feeling that Kishi's going to speed into class right at the last second. If I can take a guess here, I'd say he's enjoying some time in the batting cages and has lost track of time again."

"Should we go and get him, then?"

"What?" Yugori said, aghast, "We're already bordering on being late ourselves! If Kishi wants to get himself lost in those thoughts of his when he should be focused on getting a proper education, then that's on him."

"Yo, aren't we missing someone aside from Kishi?" Tosuke put in, "Where's Uesugi?"

To this, both Junikeno and Yugori shrugged. But, after a few moments, Junikeno was the one who spoke up, vocalizing what he was thinking, "Knowing Uesugi he's probably seated in his classroom already. You guys know that he takes studying more seriously than anyone we know, Iwakita included."

"I don't really take it that seriously, I think the reason you two see it as taking it too seriously is because you aren't taking your future seriously enough! You'd better be careful or Uesugi and I will have big, well paying corporate jobs while you are in a worse off position!"

"Man, that just sounds like a drag," Tosuke said, "I'm sure we'll work it out, right Uzuda?"

"Don't bring me into this," Junikeno said, "You were the one saying that. C'mon we'd better get a move on or all this talk about us being late will become a reality."

"Let me guess," the deadpan voice said, watching as Junikeno silently pushed his way into the room and deposited himself into the seat beside the speaker's, "Uzuda, you were on time, but got distracted speaking to Yakano and Iwakita at the front gate again."

Junikeno's head dropped and a heavy sigh rolled off his tongue. By the looks of things, Junikeno couldn't even meet the other's eyes, "Yeah," he sighed exasperatedly, "You got it in one, and before you ask, Kishi wasn't with us."

"At the batting cages no doubt, I do hope he'll get to class one time. One has to wonder how the three of you manage to get to class on time at all. Iwakita has more intelligence than you other three, but he's constantly let down by how tardy he is on a consistent basis."

Junikeno sighed. Why did it always feel like Uesugi was telling him off like an older sibling figure or something whenever this happened?

"Look," Junikeno heard from the back of the classroom, "Uesugi is lecturing Uzuda again."

"They're so weird. Why does Uzuda let him talk to him that way."

Both Junikeno and Fuutaro met each other's eyes, rolling them at precisely the same second. They heard all sorts of comments all the time about their friendship, and they also heard it about Fuutaro's friendship with Iwakita, Yakano and Kishi as well. If Junikeno was to describe it, Fuutaro would be what was called an acquired taste that not many people had the time to spend learning how to appreciate. Uesugi was driven toward his studies, but Junikeno knew the truth of the reasoning behind it and would never talk down his friends' dream or share details about the complicated situation Fuutaro was living in.

"Hey, you joining us for lunch today, Uesugi?" Junikeno asked him quietly. He heard the sigh from his friend, knowing that he was contemplating an answer.

"Well-"

Lowering his voice so that the students around them couldn't hear, Junikeno hissed, "You gotta eat dude, even if it's just a little. Let us help you."

"I appreciate it, but, you three already do enough for me as it is, I couldn't possibly accept even more generosity than what you've already given me. I think it would be best if I declined for today. I appreciate the offer however."

Junikeno nodded to Fuutaro and turned his head back to preparing for the lessons ahead of them both, not without saying quietly, "Not a problem, but let me know if you need anything, got your back, alright?"

"Got it, thanks Uzuda."

Junikeno had just turned away from the conversation with Fuutaro and the door to their classroom slid open once again. Through the aforementioned door came a figure dressed in business attire. Her long, dark hair was tied back into a tight ponytail and she crossed the threshold to the front of the classroom.

"Good morning," she said, "We'll now begin. Who's on duty today?"

A boy about three rows back from the front of the classroom stood, then spoke in a slightly timid voice, "Please rise."

"One barbecue combo and hold the barbecue."

"Comin' up."

'You'd think the cheapest thing on the cafeteria menu is rice, but it's not. You save 200 yen by skipping the beef in the combo. It's rice, soup and veggies for the same cost as just rice and the water's free. I love this place!"

Fuutaro had taken the combo given to him by the cafeteria lady, then he turned on heel and departed from the counter, he started walking down the main path between the tables, and a chuckle reached his ears, but Fuutaro chose to ignore it as he did the comment that followed.

"Eating alone again, what a loser."

Fuutaro wasn't bothered by the comments passed around by other students, besides it wasn't like he ate alone every day, he just knew that if one of his friends saw how little he was eating again, they'd try and bail him out. He hated being forced to take their help, and while he helped them to keep all of their grades up, he didn't like pushing his family's situation onto anyone else. It was up to him to handle this.

Fuutaro was so preoccupied with his own thoughts and going through the motions of reaching his table that he didn't realize the presence of another, at least not until it was too late. Clang! The side of Fuutaro's lunch tray collided with that of another's, a serious looking girl with medium-length hair and an expressive ahoge, all in her reddish-orange hair color. Fuutaro immediately took note of a pair of star-shaped hair clips near both of her cerulean eyes.

"I found this spot before you did! The next table is wide open, I think you should move!"

"This is the table that I sit at every day, why don't you move?"

"Hmph!"

End Chapter

And there you have it, Chapter One is at an end. I wanted to make this one a little longer and do the whole initial scene of Fuutaro and Itsuki meeting, but I'm not sure if I want to go the canon route or do something a little different with this fic yet. Well, we'll find out what I decided next chapter. Until then, see you next time.
