Avatar Kyoshi had frequently asked Avatar Yangchen for guidance regarding raising her adopted daughter. The primary reason was that she was an Avatar and a woman. So it made more sense. Avatar Yangchen had provided her current incarnation with excellent advice. However, the former Avatar had kept something secret from her present incarnation. So once Kyoshi and her family returned from the Southern Water Tribe, where they'd been celebrating the Blue Moon Ball, Yangchen thought it was time to come clean about her secret.
One week after Kyoshi's family returned, she entered Kyoshi's dreams. The badass female stood, surprised to see her past life. She hadn't summoned her. Still, she kept her silence as Yangchen looked at her."Kyoshi, I'm afraid I've not been frank with you. As an Air Nomad, telling lies or only half-truths is against our culture.
You once asked if I knew what it was like raising a child. I answered truthfully that I didn't have children of my own. However, I was sincere when I said I did help countless children. Yet I didn't divulge to you, my little sister," Yangchen started to say before Kyoshi interrupted.
"Sister?! I thought it was a tradition that no Air Nomad child knows who their biological parents are. They're raised communally and have no interaction with their blood family. How did you have a little sister then? Or even know she was your little sister?" Kyoshi questioned curiously.
"Because a few individuals in our culture despise that law. Therefore, they have gone to great lengths to locate their blood family. However, I uncovered the secret records chamber where all births are recorded. It was there I found out about my sister named Sky. She received her name from her sky blue eyes."
"Tell me, was she surprised that her older sister was the Avatar?" Kyoshi asked curiously.
We have a seven-year age gap, so by the time we found each other, I was fourteen, and she was seven. So, I wasn't knowledgeable about my true identity yet. However, we're delighted to have found our missing halves."
"Did you feel an instant bond?" Kyoshi asked. While she didn't have a sibling, she understood family bonds were essential.
"We could feel we're sisters from the moment our eyes met. Call it what you wish, but we're meant to be together, not apart."
"What did she look like?" the taller Avatar questioned her previous self.
"We shared the same hair color, and our faces were virtually identical. Again, the only true difference was our eye color. Surprisingly, we both had the same birthmark on our right shoulder."
"Tell me more about your sister, please."
"Sky, while being incredibly imaginative, was also painfully shy. So, she didn't interact with many other people outside of myself. I did my best to help her overcome her shyness gradually. Also, she was a late bloomer regarding airbending. I also helped her practice her skills till she reached the intermediate level when she was fourteen.
I also contacted her even after my identity as the Avatar was announced. I even managed to take her on a few adventures. So again, while I didn't have a child, I raised my sister alone."
"No wonder you give such exemplary advice when it comes to me raising my own child. Do you wish to share more tales or save them for a later time?"
"Seeing how you'll be waking soon from this dream, it will have to wait till another night. But I felt I owed you the truth."
"Thanks for sharing, Yangchen. I hope we speak again soon."
"Me as well, Avatar Kyoshi. Good luck with your daughter!" as the dream ended and Kyoshi woke with a smile on her face.
