Jesse's first outing as a trouble magnet loose in Atlantis began the very next day. He and Toran had been introduced to each other the day before and despite the age difference became immediate friends, to both their mother's delight. Since Toran had grown up on Atlantis, and its known areas were considered safe, they were allowed to go off on their own, as long as they stayed in the areas clearly marked by the expedition. This shouldn't have been a problem, considering that the expedition members thought that they had explored and found everything findable in those areas. Boy were they wrong.

Xander was meeting Sheppard in his office to discuss a tentative schedule. In a place like Atlantis, you learned to be flexible.

"Since some of the technology we've been having trouble accessing is on other planets, we'll be taking you off Atlantis periodically. I know the SGC has cleared you on our weapons and Ronan was pleased with your sparring session yesterday. He would like to do some training with you while you're here. He says you have potential. And the only person stronger than him that he's met previously is Teal'C."

"Not a problem, I enjoyed it too."

"Good, but I want to take the time and evaluate you for myself. Both on weapons and sparing. I need to have an idea for myself what you can do."

"Understandable. Will you want Cordelia evaluated as well?"

"Yes, Teyla is already planning to spar with her. I'll test her on weapons at the same time you're tested, if that works for you?"

"It does."

Zalenka, meanwhile, took Cordelia to the lab. Cordelia, like most women, had immediately decided that Radak Zalenka was an adorable little hedgehog. She had no problem spending time with him. She would have preferred to avoid McKay altogether, but she was an adult and could deal with him being in the same room as her. But her right foot was on alert to deliver a kick between the uprights if he got out of line again.

Everyone was just settling down to begin their assigned tasks when an alert sounded. Something was wrong. McKay immediately checked the computer and located the source of the alert. An area near the labs. He contacted Elizabeth and Sheppard, who responded that they were on the way. Cordelia remained where she was, she didn't think she would be of much help and might just get in the way. Xander, on the other hand, went with Sheppard. With his extra strength he might be able to help.

They found Toran anxiously pacing in the corridor.

"Uncle John." He yelled, when he saw Sheppard.

"Toran, what's wrong?"

"We were just walking. I was taking Jesse to the north pier, so we could see the whales. He was running his hand on the wall. A door opened up and he fell in. It closed right up. He in there." Toran said, pointing at the blank wall.

Rodney began scanning the area, while Sheppard visually inspected it, looking for a panel or a switch, something that would allow access. Xander scented the area and confirmed what Toran had said. They had been walking down the corridor, Jesse's scent trailed along the wall. And then stopped abruptly. He radio Cordelia, who came running.

"I'm not getting anything." McKay said. "My scanners aren't reading anything. No blank space behind here, no panel access, nothing. Something must be shielding the area. I don't know how to get in."

"Let me try." Xander said. "The panel may be hidden. Maybe my stronger gene can make it light up or something."

"It's worth a try." Elizabeth agreed.

"Go ahead." McKay said.

What none except Cordelia would know, is that Xander intended to use more than the Ancient gene to try to find anything. He would use his clairvoyant ability. He might not know how it worked, but he knew how to make it work. He reached out and touched the wall where Jesse's scent ended and felt with his mind, reaching for that feeling of knowing. He found it. A panel, previously unseen, lit up. He moved his hand and the door slid open. Jesse sat on the floor, arms around his knees. "Dad!" He cried, when he saw Xander. He launched himself up and into his father's arms. Cordelia reach for him too and he was held tight in both of their arms. The were all a little shaken but alright. At least, at first. Then both Xander and Cordelia realized that there was a strange scent in the air, just as another, more strident, alert sounded.

"Dr. Weir." Xander said, anxiously. "Remember we said, we've got heightened senses, including senses of smell? You need to get Dr. Beckett in hazmat gear down here and check everyone. There's some kind of sickness that's just been released."

"Elizabeth, I don't know how he knows that, but I think he's right." McKay said. "This looks like a lab, a medical or chem lab. And stuffs been broken. Who knows what was in those containers. All this looks like it's been like this for awhile. The door must have sealed it in. Now it's loose, whatever it is."

When the alert sounded, Carson Beckett was tending to a mildly sprained ankle that Lt. Moore had walked in on. A quick scan showed some mild inflammation, nothing to worry about. He carefully wrapped it and admonished her to 'take it easy' and sent her on her way, just as the radio crackled in his ear. The news that a new lab had been discovered by young Jesse and Toran and that something medical related may have been loosed was frightening. Carson well remembered the nanite virus and the lives it had claimed. He immediately ordered his people into hazmat suits and grabbed extras. The people exposed would also need the suits, to prevent further contamination.
