With Ronan and Sheppard in the lead and Teyla and Xander bringing up the rear, Rodney was safely ensconced in the middle of their group. While he could handle a gun, barely, he was first and foremost a scientist. The rest were warriors. Sheppard had been in the Air force for over twenty years. Teyla and Ronan survived in a galaxy where humans were hunted, much the way Xander had survived since he was sixteen in a city where humans were also hunted. Like Teyla and Ronan, he had learned to hunt back. Consequently, all three were feeling uneasy the deeper into the facility they went. To a lesser extent, so was Sheppard. Something just felt off. Wrong. Finally, Sheppard said something.
"I kinda feel like we're being watched." He said.
"You're not the only one feeling it." Xander said, scenting the air, but finding nothing at this time. "I feel it, too. I get the feeling we're not alone in here."
"I am not sensing any Wraith, but I too feel eyes on the back of my neck." Teyla said.
"Predator." Ronan grunted.
"There's nothing in here, you're all being paranoid." Rodney said. "We scouted around the whole place remember? There's only one way in or out. So nothing's gotten in."
"Doesn't mean something couldn't already be in here." Xander said.
"You mean locked up in here when the Ancients left and now loose?"
"Yes, what do you know about this place?" Xander asked.
"Nothing, the only thing we found in the database was that they were studying something they called a daemona." Rodney said.
Xander froze. "Please tell me you're joking."
"No, why? What's wrong?" Rodney asked.
"From what I understand, our Latin language is descended from the Ancients language, right?"
"Yeah, what of it?"
"Did you run that word past Dr. Weir, I understand she's learned the Ancients language."
"She said it might relate to the root word for demonstrate."
"The word for demonstrate, also includes the word demon, Dr. McKay. Our ancestors labeled the Gou'ld, demons. I have no doubt, the people of Pegasus consider the Wraith demons. Do you really want to meet whatever the Ancients labeled a demon?"
Xander scented the air again and now he knew. They weren't alone in here. He drew his sword. If it really was a demon, bullets weren't going to do alot of good. Ronan drew his own. "More than one."
"Half a dozen, at least." Xander agreed.
"What are you talking about?" Rodney asked.
"We're not just being watched anymore, Dr. McKay, we're being stalked." Xander told him. Teyla had her P90 up and was scanning the area. Sheppard wasn't even bothering to question, he'd served with Ronan long enough to know that when he said danger, he was right. Not to mention, his own instincts were screaming at him.
And then they saw it. Or rather, them. Six, somewhat humanoid creatures. Roughly six feet tall, with longer then human arms, ending in five deadly claws. A mouth full of way too many sharp teeth and slitted eyes, like a snake, cold and merciless. They moved on silent feet as they attacked. Sheppard, Teyla and Rodney were firing their P90s. Xander and Ronan were swinging their swords. It took alot of bullets to put one down but Xander and Ronan each were able to sever heads with their two handed swings of their swords. Finally all six of the creature were down.
They cautiously stepped into the room the creatures had come from. Dozens of tanks lined the walls. There were a lot more of these things.
"McKay get into the system. Download everything you can, then we are outta here." Sheppard ordered.
"We can't leave these things like this. If they can get out of the tanks, they could get out of the facility. We need to blow the place." Xander said.
"I agree. This place is just wrong." Teyla said.
"Alright, let's plant some C4 and then get out of here. Teyla you guard McKay." Teyla quickly moved to put McKay and the computer at her back, as she held her P90 ready for anything that came at them. Sheppard, Ronan and Xander began putting C4 charges on the tanks.
"I wonder why they felt the need to study these things." Xander muttered as they worked their way around the room. "And is this the only room in this place with these things in it?"
"Like Rodney said, we scouted around the outside. It's not a big place. This should be the only room with these things in it."
"Doesn't mean this isn't the only facility where they studied them." Xander said. "There could be more out there."
"Hopefully, this computer's database will give us a heads up on that." Sheppard said as Rodney called out that he had everything and that they could go now. Unfortunately, trouble still seemed to be stalking them as they ran into two more as they neared the door of the facility. Ronan and Xander dealt with them. Once out and safely at a distance, Sheppard activated the C4 and blew the facility.
"Cordelia's going to get a laugh out this. Once she's done dope slapping me for getting into trouble in the first place, I mean." Xander said, as they walked back to the gate. "She told me to stay out of trouble. I told her, I do try to stay out of trouble. Trouble just seems to find me."
"I know the feeling." Sheppard said. "It isn't like I go looking for trouble, either. It just seems to find me, too."
"And since we're often with you, it finds us too." McKay said, grumpy because he hadn't gotten to make a brilliant scientific discovery. Why did the Ancients have to do weird things like study weird animals?
"But we did get to blow something up. Always a good time." Xander said.
Sheppard was grinning in agreement and Teyla smiling indulgently as Rodney dialed Atlantis and they stepped through.
