As soon as the jumper touched down they were all hurrying out of it. Teyla saw Kanaan and headed straight for him. Holling approached Dr. Weir and told her that they had cleared some of the debris away, but hadn't touched any of the rocks yet. Rodney had his scanner out and was checking it. Xander and Ronan began inspecting the rocks. After some debate they began clearing the rocks, the two working together. Eventually Xander was able to see through a small opening. With his superior vision, he could see the boys. Jesse was partially transformed. Oh boy.
"Jesse, can you hear me?" Xander called out to his son. As he watched the fur on Jesse receded.
"Dad, Toran was really cold. I've been trying to keep him warm."
"It's okay, Jesse. You've done good. We'll get you out. See if you can wake Toran up. Are either of you hurt?"
"No, the rocks fell down when we were inside." Jesse shook Toran lightly. He groggily muttered and slowly woke up.
Xander turned back to the assembled group. "They're alive. Jesse says they're not hurt, but they're both very cold. Toran fell asleep and Jesse's been holding him to keep him warm. They're both awake now."
The people assembled were overjoyed to hear this, especially the parents and loved ones. Carson began readying warm blankets. Slowly and carefully, Xander and Ronan finished clearing the rocks away. Though the mothers would have loved to rush forward and grab their sons up tight, they waited while Carson and his people went to work. The two boys were carefully loaded onto stretchers and blankets wrapped around them.
Once they returned to Atlantis, Carson ordered an immediate scan for both of the boys. After seeing them settled into beds in the infirmary, he came out to report to everyone.
"They're in surprisingly good condition. Jesse did a good job keeping Toran warm, but I'm surprised he isn't colder himself. They both inhaled some dust and we're working to get that out of their lungs. It could cause some inflammation and irritation. I'm going to keep them here at least overnight. But aside from a few scrapes and small bruises, they're fine. You can go in and see them now."
Cordelia and Teyla both led the charge into the infirmary, grabbing their boys and holding tight to them. Xander put his arms around both Cordelia and Jesse. Around the other bed, Teyla and Kanaan were also holding their son, as Sheppard, Rodney and Ronan gathered around them.
"Ms. Teyla, I'm sorry, it's my fault." Jesse said. "I wanted to see the paintings. It was my idea."
"I'm not angry at you, Jesse. An adult should have told you that the caves were unstable. Although, you should have asked permission, but you both are guilty of that, so if I was to be angry, it would be at both of you. But I'm too happy that you're both alright to be angry. Just remember to ask next time."
"Mom and dad tell me that, too. I keep forgetting."
"That excuse won't work much longer, you're getting too old for it." Xander said. "But right now, we're just grateful you're alright, ourselves."
"Absolutely." Cordelia said. "But can the two of you stop scaring me? I'm too young to have wrinkles and gray hair."
"Dad scared you too, mom?"
"He ran in to some things that wanted to chew on him. But he told them no and came home."
Jesse understood what she meant, after all, he'd grown up knowing about demons and keeping them a secret.
"I told you, Jesse and I don't go looking for trouble. Trouble just finds us." Xander defended himself and his son.
"He's right. Mom. It just happens."
"Well I'd like it if it could stop happening, but nobody seems to be listening to me, no matter how many times I say it."
"Nobody listens to me either, when I tell them to stay out of trouble." Elizabeth said, pointing at AG 1.
"It isn't like we go looking for trouble either. It just finds us."
Laughing, Carson sent them off, assuring them the staff would make sure Toran and Jesse were alright and that they could see them in the morning.
Before heading to their quarters, Xander requested a secure and private line though the Stargate to Jack O'Neill. Surprised, Elizabeth asked him why.
"I'm sorry, Dr. Weir, you're not cleared to know that. General O'Neill is in charge over both the SGC and the DC, the Command Cordelia and I are associated with. I need to make periodic reports on what we're doing here."
She allowed him use of her office and was surprised when she saw him place a crystal on her desk, beside the video screen. She was wondering if it was Asguard tech, as they were known to use crystals.
"What's up, kid?" Jack asked once Xander was on the line.
"Demons. We went off world today to try to access a facility they haven't been able to get into. Teach me not to ask what information they have on a place before we leave. Turns out they were studying what the Ancients themselves labeled a daemona. I would most definitely call them demons. Some of them got loose while we were there. We killed them when they attacked us. Then Sheppard blew the place with C4. They had several dozen tanks, each with one of those things in it. McKay copied the database before we left."
"Damnit, we've been lucky that nothing like that has shown up in Pegasus before. I was hoping that meant there weren't any out there."
"There are other facilities that they can't currently get into, Jack. Some of them may also have demons. They're all going to have to be checked."
"Yeah. I'll have Weir concentrate on sending you to any facility that they haven't been able to get into before. Make finding out if there are more of these research labs a priority. How's the rest of the family doing?"
"Cordelia clocked McKay within minutes of meeting him. Jesse's managed to find trouble twice since we got here. A previously unknown chem lab and just today, he and Toran got trapped in a cave-in on the mainland. They fine. A little cold and some inhaled dust. I'm blaming you. You invoked Murphy."
"Murphy would have found you anyway and you know it. Damned imp follows us around where ever we go. Alright, thanks for the report. Put Weir on."
"Alright, see you later, Jack."
Xander called Dr. Weir into the office, where Jack told her not to ask any questions, since she wasn't cleared to know and to have the database from today's excursion transmitted immediately and to concentrate on sending Xander to the other places they'd so far been unable to get in to.
Elizabeth Weir was a deeply unhappy expedition leader after that conversation.
