Since Rodney was still in the infirmary recovering from Cordelia's knee to a sensitive area of his anatomy, Radak was sent out with AG 1 and Xander on their next outing. This facility was located on a terraformed moon and the Stargate was only a few miles from it. Once again, Xander was able to get them in to it. Something he'd regret later, as their presence here seems to have triggered something again. They hadn't gotten far into the facility when something appeared in their way. A Fyarl. In the Pegasus Galaxy. Not good.

It started to charge towards them and Xander barked out a command. It stopped suddenly and just watched them.

"What the Hell is that and what the Hell did you say to it?" Sheppard demanded to know.

"A Fyarl. Basically, I told it to stop. The language doesn't seem to have changed much. And it really doesn't belong here. Stay well clear of it. They can hock a loogie a fair distance and their snot hardens to near cement levels. It holds their prey until they can eat it. This really isn't good." He started to say something else when the Fyarl suddenly reared back and made a sound like someone sucking snot. Xander stared at it and it was suddenly on fire.

"What was that?" Teyla gasped.

"One of my psychic abilities. I'm a pyromancer. I can set things on fire from a distance. Carson did scans of us the day we got here. I've got an extra structure in my brain that lights up when I use it. I usually only use it when Cordy and I want a romantic night in front of a fire, in our fireplace. We need to download the database and then blow this place. Then I need to contact Jack. Maybe now you guys can get read in."

They proceeded to do just that and then headed back to Atlantis, where Xander contacted Jack.

"So more bad news, Jack. We got into another facility today. We ran into a Fyarl. We got the database and blew the place. So what's new for you?"

"We finished going thru the first database. I'm clearing you to read Weir, Sheppard, McKay and the two Pegasus natives in. Level One Clearance." And he told him what they'd learned from the database. It wasn't good.

Xander called them into the office.

"Okay. So, you're being granted Level One Clearance. Bare bones, so don't push it McKay. Scattered across Earth are what are being termed dimensional rifts. Tears in the dimensional fabric. Things sometimes come thru the rifts. 95% of them think humans make tasty treats. Many of them have language, culture and beliefs. Learning their languages or them learning ours doesn't stop them from wanting to eat us. Just like the Wraith. Worse though, is these rifts date back to the time of the Ancients. Most governments on Earth are aware of them and have special units that deal with incursions. The United States one has been up and running since the Civil War. Since the military can't go into civilian areas, volunteer units deal with incursions there. Cordelia and I are part of one such unit. When mine and Jack's counterparts came thru the Quantum Mirror two years ago to bring Jesse back, they told us, that rifts had been discovered on other worlds as well. We've since confirmed that. It was originally believed that the Ancients discovered these creatures living on Earth when they arrived in the Milky Way Galaxy. The database we found in the first place we visited says something different. The rifts resulted from an attempt to access another dimension on purpose. It's much smaller then our own. Their intent was to use it like subspace. To travel thru it. Unfortunately they discovered that it's teeming with life. The things that live there came thru the rifts. The Ancients managed to beat them back and close the rifts. They lived in peace for awhile and then the plague happened. It was revenge. The things from those rifts had figured out a way to get to Earth and set it free. It decimated the Ancients population. They thought they'd managed to eradicate the plague. Unfortunately it just went dormant. Once human life evolved on Earth, the plague came back. Over time, the rifts have weaken as well, which is why somethings are able to get thru."

"However it's what else that was found in that database that's even more disturbing. The Ancients accessed the rifts on purpose here in Pegasus near the end of the Wraith war. They were planning to unleash those things on the Wraith. That may or may not have worked, but since they like to eat humans, sooner or later, the Ancients would have had to deal with these creatures going after humans too. They were trying to figure out a way to control them or baring that, create a kill switch. They hadn't gotten to either point when they decided the war was lost and headed back to Earth. This means there's a rift here in Pegasus. We need to find it and we need to seal it. The coordinates were in the database. A specialist will be arriving in two days to help us. I know her. In fact, she's Cordelia's best friend and a part of our group. Her name is Faith Lehane. Faith's been augmented. No, you are not cleared to know anything about the procedure. It only works on a tiny subset of teenage girls descended from the Ancients."

"Are you serious?" Elizabeth asked, incredulous.

"Yes. My hometown sits on top of one the biggest rifts yet found. My best friend was lost when we were teenagers because of these things. But there's more. The Ancients called these creatures daemona, which eventually became our word for demon. These things have been known about on Earth for a long time. The age of science made us decide that they were nothing more than stories. They're not. They're very real."
