(Why does boy's volleyball have to be so awesome?! I own nothing of the Haikyuu! franchise. I only own my OC and her father.)
Chapter 1: Girls Join The Boys (Mornings Only)
Shoyo Hinata couldn't believe his luck! After three long years, he was finally part of a team! A real boy's volleyball team that would toss for him, let him spike the ball to his heart's content, and help him with his shortcomings since he was a spiking fool. Of course, his rival Tobio Kageyama was also on his team and they were banned from the court for the first week... and the other two first years were mean (one in particular) but hey, he could deal with that! Because volleyball and spiking!
He nodded to himself as he agreed with why he was putting up with the downfalls of being on that team, arms crossed in the middle of the court. Unfortunately that was when he received a ball right into his face, courtesy of Ryūnosuke Tanaka. Everyone ran to check if he was okay while Kageyama just looked angrier than normal, yelling how the orange-haired boy needed to focus so he wouldn't screw up during a game. Shoyo stuck his tongue out in irritation before he heard a soft giggle from the doorway. Then his attention stuck to a girl who was dressed in volleyball gear, holding her gym shoes as she leaned against the door with a teasing grin and a sly look in her eye.
Maybe it was the numerous earrings in her ears or the deep red auburn of her long hair pulled up into a braided bun... but she reminded him of someone.
"Nishi! Didja ask Dai-senpai?!" she shouted at the libero, waving her arm that wasn't holding her shoes. The wild haired Yu Nishinoya tilted his head in thought before shouting in shock. Obviously he had forgotten whatever he was supposed to ask because he was apologizing like crazy. The girl waved her hand, calmly telling him that it was fine. "Really, Michi-senpai should have just asked but hey, she's so shy and cute, I get it. So I figured I'd check just in case you had Garigari on the brain and forgot. And besides..." Her face turned serious. "... it's not like I shouldn't also ask on behalf of myself..."
Daichi Sawamura approached the two chatting wild students with Koshi Sugawara with a raised eyebrow. "Uh, what's up? It's almost time for our morning practice."
The redhead turned her grey-blue eyes towards the boy's volleyball captain and bowed in a 90-degree angle. "Dai-senpai! Is it okay if Michi-senpai and I attend your morning practices?"
Both third years looked at each other then back to the still bowing female, noting that she had yet to take one step into the gym. Obviously she took it seriously, like a kendo student refusing to enter a dojo without permission or with their shoes on. She was respecting their gym and while it was appreciated, there was still a problem.
"What if you get hurt?" Suga asked, a look of concern on his face. He wasn't saying no even though he was the vice-captain of the team but as the team "mom", he didn't want anyone to get hurt. And boys had more power than girls. He hated to even think of what a spike from a powerful ace like theirs would do to the tiny girl-- she was smaller than Nishinoya. He figured her arms might explode if they connected with Asahi's spike.
She rose from her bow and met his eyes. "I could get hurt regardless. Right now, none of the other girls want to do morning practice-- only Michi-senpai and I. We can only do so much as a wing spiker and a libero. But if we join you guys, we could toughen up and maybe the other girls will get inspired by how hard we're trying. Maybe they'll start coming to morning practice or at least give the game their all instead of just going through the motions!" Her cheeks were flushed with her emotions and she had a happy smile on her face but it dimmed as she continued. "Or... maybe nothing will change... but we have to do something or we'll be fish in a barrel and get hurt from the lack of training." She sighed but clenched her empty hand in a tiny fist. "If Michi-senpai doesn't want to after one practice, that's fine. I want to play... I want to win. But I can't do it alone."
Daichi turned to the other guys before sighing. "We have to get the coach on board with this. But it could help, having another libero and wing spiker with different assets." Tanaka snorted a bit but he was ignored as the captain continued, "If you get hurt, don't hide it. Or you'll be out of here and won't be allowed back... promise?"
The girl jumped up with a happy grin. "Promise! Rin Matsuoka, 2nd year, libero, ready to train!" She saluted him. "Oh!" She quickly pulled out her phone and typed a short text before shoving her phone back in her bag and putting on her gym shoes. "NOW I'm ready to train. Michi-senpai's on her way~"
Just as Rin put her bag down behind the bench, the aforementioned 3rd year came sprinting to the doorway, shoes in hand as she thanked them and apologized for the inconvenience at the same time. Her short dark hair was a bit ruffled due to the wind and she bent to put her shoes on before entering the gym. Yui Michimiya greeted her fellow 3rd years before shyly looking up to Daichi. "Since this is your practice, I'll be following your lead, captain." She blushed prettily before getting in line with the others who awaited Daichi's lead.
Sawamura scratched the back of his head but shrugged. "Okay... we're gonna start with a run, guys. Er... and ladies. Follow me. Kagayama, Hinata-- no racing this time!" The first year rival duo wilted a bit at being called out but did as they were told as everyone followed their captain and kept an eye out for Rin and Yui just in case they couldn't keep up or got lost.
