The next day or so arrived. Joanie and Chachi decided it was a good day to share this news once again to the Fonz and her parents. Richie wasn't home to hear about it, which was okay.

"Do you want to hear my news now or wait until she tells Mrs. C.?" he asked.

"What are you talking about, Chachi?" Fonzie asked.

"Myself and Joanie," was his answer.

"What's the subject?"

"I know we planned to share this at the same time, but I couldn't wait at the last minute to share with you, so that's why I'm doing it now," Chachi told his cousin.

"I'm hoping this is the right time to see if we can finally get married."

"So that's why you mentioned telling us at the same time."

"Yeah, Fonz. That's exactly correct."

"Have you found a ring for her?"

"Not yet. I'm going to wait for the right time to see if we can finally get married."

"Maybe now is the right time," he said.

"Yeah, Fonz. Isn't that what I just said?"

While he had that conversation with Fonzie, Joanie was doing the same thing.

"Is this the right time for you and Chachi to do this one more time?"

"That's what we think. I hope it's finally going to happen. We haven't decided on anything yet. We're starting to talk about it. He said he would tell the Fonz as well."

"At least you could've had him here at the same time instead of separately."

"I know, Dad. I'm sure Fonz would have told Chachi that too. I even made some tea for us when we talked about it."

"Did he accept?" Marion asked.

"No. He's not a tea drinker," she reminded Marion.

"Has he told Arthur this news yet like you are?"

"We both thought it made sense to share all at once, but I guess it's okay if we didn't tell everyone together."

"I hope you are making the right decision on this with Chachi," Howard said.

"That's what he and I agreed on. We haven't decided to get a ring or anything."

"It's a good idea not to rush on the ring part, Joanie," Howard said.

She didn't say anything after that, but all Joanie did was nod her head. No time for an argument.

"I shall call Chachi and see what Fonzie's reaction was to our engagement."

"That can wait until you see him again, dear."

Howard nodded.

"Your mother is right. There's always tomorrow."

She nodded her head a second time.

"I know," was all she could say.

She thought about what Howard just told her, but decided against it and went straight to the phone and called him.

Chachi wasn't there to take her call, so all she could do was leave a message.

"I hope he calls back."

Joanie happened to be right - Chachi did call back, but had to wait for a while. Maybe he already told Fonz, Joanie told herself.

Marion was the one who answered the phone since she was the closest.

"She's right here, Chachi."

There was no need to be called from her mother since she wasn't very far away from the telephone.

"Hi, Chachi. How did the Fonz react?"

"Hi, Joanie. He asked about giving you a ring."

"What did you tell him?"

"Not yet. Do you want to wait until the time gets closer to get the ring or now?"

"Mom and Dad probably wouldn't let us rush this fast, Chachi. I'm sure they'd be surprised we're going to try again."

"Looks that way to me too. Want to go out tonight?"

"I don't think so, Chachi. I think Mom has something planned, but I don't know what it is. You're welcome to come over."

"Thanks, Joanie. That'll make me feel better so I can be around when we both share the news about a ring and everything."

"Did the Fonz say anything about that?"

"No."

"I hope this will work," Chachi added.

"Me too. I don't think children are going to happen anytime soon."

"Agreed," he replied.

"I knew you would agree."

"Why wouldn't I? We've known each other for a long time and now we waited so long to try getting married," Joanie said.

"I know. I guess every time we did was always the wrong time."

"Isn't that what we're doing, Joanie? I'd still love to spend more time with you rather than just being friends."

"I know. Let's keep coming up with ideas on what we can do for a honeymoon."

"I'd love that, Joanie. There's still plenty of time on the details."

"True. Maybe we can get married on Mom and Dad's wedding day."

Chachi didn't like that idea and told her so.

"Why do you not like the idea, Chachi? Lots of people get married on their parents' wedding day."

"How do you know that, Joanie? I don't think your mom and dad would like sharing the same date."

"We should tell them and see how they'll react first," she said.

Joanie knew the story Marion and Howard had shared with her and Richie, who happens to be her older brother. Even he has a wife and two children. Maybe someday it'll happen to her and Chachi, but not now.

"When would you like to come over so we can try deciding on what dates would work?" Joanie asked.

"When would you want me to come over? Do you want Fonzie to be part of this too?"

"Not unless he wants to, Chachi, but he's always welcome. You know how he is."

"Exactly. I don't know if he likes the idea of sharing the same date as your mom and dad. I can tell you that."

"How do you know that?"

"I just do," he answered.

"You're welcome to come over anytime, Chachi. I won't leave the house."

"All right. I'll be there, but would you mind if I showed up late?"

"Of course not. I'll look forward to seeing you then."

"Is there a certain time you want me over?" Chachi asked.

"No. Just whenever you feel like it."

"All right. I'll be by soon."

"I'll be sure to answer the door."

Then the conversation ended.
