Detective Conan one shots

Shot 1

Lost in the middle of nowhere

When Shinichi came to, he felt immediately something abnormal, for starters, he couldn't smell the coffee he got used to waking up to, which his mother used to lure him out of bed sometimes at ungodly hours, and there was some weird sort of motion right beneath where he was uncomfortably lying on -plastic? Was it plastic? Also, he felt an agonizing pain at the back of his head that didn't bode well for him, and the motion beneath him that sent him up and down was increasing the nauseous feeling in his gut.

Finally deciding what to do, he pulled his eyes open, rapidly closing them again after the sudden bright light, and choosing to be careful next time, he became at least a bit more aware of where he was.

Or maybe that's not the right word.

He was in some sort of plastic ball which was floating in the middle of the sea -if not the ocean- and he couldn't see any kind of landscape nearby.

Slowly but steadily, he remembered what happened bit by bit.

He had taken Ran to a waterpark on the seashore that also presented dolphin and orca shows, which the teenage girl has been looking for since -he couldn't remember- but as always there had to be a case, as much as Ran liked to complain. It wasn't that easy as well, he and Ran had gone down the waterslide before the victim, and as they were getting out of the pool, the victim fell into the pool with his head off, after some time it was confirmed to be a murder. But it seemed that something was missing, he immediately went to the beach shore as if to try to find clues.

Of course, he had to go alone.

And of course, he had stumbled upon the culprits off guard, earning himself a hit on the head.

He cringed at his actions. If he doesn't make it to the nearest island or piece of land, Ran will have his hide.

He looked at the sphere he was currently inside and tried to stand up, ignoring the agonizing headache, which only increased when he fell on his shoulder before being able to stand up at all, and the sudden fall made the sphere spin around itself a few times.

Okay. Bad idea.

Crawling proved to be both right and wrong as well, yes he was able to move a distance but his hand slid making him fall again. And eventually, it wasn't except a solution that was at the very end of the list.

Wait – How did he get in it in the first place?

Searching, he found a zipper at his side. When – after some struggling – he was able to reach it, his hopes went down at the realization that it could only be opened from the outside. Great, just his luck.

He also realized one more thing, the air started somehow to become heavier and the atmosphere around him was really hot, being in the middle of August was another reminder of his bad luck – and he was sweating already – he knew he would have a very high temperature when he reached safety.

'Okay… Then it's either crawling or popping this thing…'

He didn't want to stay at all, so checking all he had at the moment, he realized that he only had wet tissues in his pockets – he didn't know what were they doing in there.

He didn't need to check that much, he was only wearing a hoodie – one without sleeves – And his summer shorts, he also lacked his slippers, so using them to pop his way out was obviously out of option.

His panting made itself known rather fast, and he blamed it for the lack of air more than the heat. Bringing his left hand to his temple, he realized not only how hot his skin was, but also the dried blood on it.

Then he saw it. The VIP wristband they gave him at the entrance, some parts of it were made with plastic, yes, but it was only the logo, it was attached with leather and a piece of metal that represented the lock as a belt.

'How did I forget that I have this?!'

Trying it didn't prove fruitless either, as he was able to make a little gap in the zipper, and after some time, he was able to open the zipper halfway. Enough to let him out.

Unfortunately, that meant he had to go out faster than a cheetah.

When the zipper was opened, the air started to leave the sphere and the thick plastic started clinging to his skin. But somehow he made it out, falling into the freezing water.

Going rapidly back to the surface, he tried to close the zipper on the rest of the air inside it, and after a lot of struggling, he was finally able to.

Now, having something to lay on instead of something to lay in, he went over the -now- boat and took a moment to get rid of the exhaustion.

Then looking around again, he wondered about his exact location, the police must have noticed his absence by now, as it was about afternoon when he had gone to the shore, and now it was sunset, a reasonable explanation for the dropping water temperature even though it was very hot.

And then his body started shivering.

'Bad, this is bad.'

It seems that when his hot skin met with both the cold water and the wind, his body got weak, unable to take it anymore, he let his body fall to the side, which he soon realised that it was the biggest mistake he had done.

He immediately was met with cold water, and when he went back to the surface, the waves had already taken what he called a boat away he couldn't reach it.

And soon they also started pushing him under the surface each time he went back to it.

'I… can't… breathe…'

His body continued to beg to just give in, but every time he tried to obey it, Ran's teary face came into his view, which encouraged him to continue fighting.

After a long time, he realized it was already dark, and hope started to leave him bit by bit, along with his vision starting to darken at the edges.

And then there was light.

And then sound -more like shouting- he couldn't put it together, but when the sound began to become a little clearer as it came closer, it was clear that they were shouting his name. And then relief washed over him.

But his relief enhanced his tiredness, and before he knew it, the surface was far away from him.

He then felt a tug on his wrist and a pull. He must have passed out for some time, because the next time he opened his eyes, he was choking, violently getting rid of the water in his airways.

And after some coughing, he was able to look around, his body shivering violently. Most of them were paramedics, and he couldn't get a grasp on the situation. At all.

"Shinichi!!"

A brown-haired girl with turquoise purple eyes came into his field of view and behind her a man with a moustache, both familiar.

"Kudou-kun, can you hear us?"

With some extreme effort, he managed a nod. -He didn't know if he nodded or not- Megure and Ran. Their names are Megure and Ran.

"You gave quite a scare there, didn't you?"

He just looked at both of them puzzled. He couldn't understand what is going on, and he was so tired and cold!!

One of the paramedics spoke up and told them that he must still be out of it and can't comprehend what happened. And rest is to be necessary.

"I see… If you want to rest some more, Shinichi, just go ahead."

He still felt the chilling pain in his bones, but gratefully, he closed his eyes, letting the darkness lead him away from reality.

Comfort and warmth were his first sensations when he regained consciousness.

He could feel the hammering pain in his skull, but it became dull when he was able to grasp the situation. And grimaced at his stupidity.

How could I be such a fool?!

He knew what was coming up. First, some scolding from Inspector Megure, who -if Shinichi's memory wasn't mistaken- had that certain glint in his eyes which consisted of both anger and relief. He knew he would be in need to get the scolding out of his system.

As for Ran, he didn't want to deal with her.

But he knew from the very start that lady luck had and will never smile upon him.

Because the first person to enter the hospital room was none other than her, followed by Megure. Great! What else to deal with? My parents?!

Maybe he should stay quiet through it all. He is just glad everything ended up in peace.

He just needs to remember to take Ran on a shopping spree.
