Today was the day that four trainers, Bianca, Cheren, Kieran, and Lori, had been looking forward to for quite a long time. Friends since they were much younger, the four had elected to finish their educations rather than start from their tenth birthday as a trainer. This was mainly due to Bianca's parents not wanting her to leave and go out into the world so early. After Kieran's fourteenth birthday, Bianca's mother, much to the chagrin of her father, allowed them to embark on their Pokemon journey. Professor Juniper, who lived in the same village as the quartet, had gifted Kieran's mother the four Pokemon for him and his friends, allowing them to choose across the quartet in whatever way they pleased.
"What's taking Bianca so long?" Cheren, the intellectual of the group, asked.
Kieran shrugged. "Father probably holding her up. You know how he is."
Shortly thereafter, Bianca ran up the stairs, panting.
"Sorry I'm late!" Bianca said, clearly out of breath.
"Oh Bianca." Cheren said. "You're always late to these things."
"I mean with her dad," Lori chimed in. "It's not surprising."
Bianca nodded, a little upset still. "Wait, is that the package?!"
"Yeah." Cheren replied. "It got here a few minutes ago, the two of us ran over here also."
"Well it's Kieran's birthday!" Bianca said. "Let's let him pick the first one!"
Kieran went over to the box, seemingly a bit shy about it. This was the start of a new chapter in his life, and the lives of the other three as well. He slowly unwrapped the ribbon, and opened the box, finding four Pokeballs with labels, with the name and basic info of each one. He decided to go with the Snivy, asking who else wanted what.
"I'll look!" Bianca said, quickly taking the Oshawott. This left Cheren and Lori, who both went up at the same time.
"I mean the Tepig was what I was looking for anyways, you fine with the Emolga?" Cheren asked Lori, who nodded, taking that one.
"Look at us!" Bianca yelled excitedly. "We're trainers! We should have a battle!"
"I wouldn't suggest that while inside..." Cheren said worriedly. "I don't know how powerful they are..."
"I'm sure it's fine." Lori replied. "How strong could they be? They give these things to ten year olds."
"Fair enough." Cheren said in response. "Fine Bianca, we could do one. Lori and Kieran could do one too if they wanted to."
The two agreed, and two battle occured, mainly just tackling and stuff, though Emolga knew Nuzzle instead of that, a weaker but status-inflicting move. After making a mess of the room, Lori's Emolga and Cheren's Tepig won out. Kieran's mom came upstairs, noting the ruckus.
"You four having fun?" Kieran's mom, Delilah, asked.
"oh..." Bianca said, noticing the mess. "I'm sorry, it was my idea..."
"Oh it's fine!" Delilah said. "I'll take care of it, it's just nice that you all liked your Pokemon is all. You'll be spending a lot of time together after all."
Bianca sighed in relief. "Thanks Kieran's mom..."
"You're welcome Bianca." Delilah said. "Now Professor Juniper probably wants to see you."
"I mean yeah, that makes sense." Cheren said. "Probably some sort of paperwork or whatever, can't be too hard."
Lori nodded, Bianca yet again stating how excited she was to be a trainer. The quintet went downstairs, Delilah giving her son Kieran a kiss on the forehead before tearfully saying goodbye, giving Kieran a big hug.
"Thanks mom. I'll be sure to call often!" Kieran said.
"Thanks Kieran..." Delilah sobbed a bit. It hadn't dawned on her quite yet that they were heading out at first, and now with the group about to walk out the door, it enlightened her to the fact that they weren't kids anymore. Hell, relative to when many start out in the world, they were quite old, Delilah having four extra years to take care of her child.
"And plus, flying is quick, isn't it? I'm sure I could catch something capable of that and head home more often, right?" Kieran said.
"Hey that's a good idea!" Bianca said. "Maybe dad won't mind me being gone as much too!"
Delilah nodded. "Yeah. That could work." Delilah let go of her son, and the quartet began off to the lab of the professor, excited to formally start their Pokemon journey.
