Today was quite an eventful day. Even though today was a holiday from my knight duty. I still patrolled the streets, even after the Captain told me to take some rest. Well, I just can't sit and do nothing. I don't feel comfortable about it. If I don't do anything and just sit around, the guilt rises up, the guilt of killing grandmother. My mother is into sleeping beauty disease. My family is in ruins, it is all my fault. This was me, Reinhard Van Astrea.

Oh yeah, I went a bit overboard huh? Well, it was the first time someone had survived the bowel hunter. It was really good news. If I had been late then something disastrous would've definitely occurred. Two lives would have got lost. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself.

It was evening. I started walking towards the dining hall. On the way, I met one of the maids.

"Reinhard-sama Good Evening, are you heading for the dining room?" The maid bowed and asked me.

"Yes, is it ready?" I asked.

"Yes, dinner is being placed on the table. Carol-san asked me to call you."

I nodded. I again started walking towards the dining hall with the maid behind me.

On the way, I asked, "Is father coming for dinner?"

I could feel a frown on her face, and the reply was obvious. "No, he's still out drinking."

"I see."

When I reached the hall, dinner was served. I went and sat at my seat while the maid who had come to inform me went to help others.

I started eating my dinner. All alone like everyday. I wondered if I asked the maids to eat with me but like everyday they would refuse as part of courtesy.

I still asked and was refused.

After some minutes, one of the butler twins Tate and Liza came with a letter?

"What happened, Tate?"

"Reinhard-sama, there's a letter for you." He handed me the letter. I thanked and took it.

I opened and read it. After reading, there was a smile on my face. Tomorrow is gonna be an eventful day as well.

Gentle light entered from the windows. I opened my eyes.

"An unfamiliar ceiling." I muttered. It wasn't Elior forest and neither Mather's or Milload Mansion.

'Hey, you have awakened! Everyone, Subaru's awake!' Mia started screaming like I was in a coma.

"Am I dead?" I asked.

This time Kuro responded. "No you aren't. But the fact that you keep getting yourself in situations like these means you will die someday you know!" Kuro started scolding. Well I've already died like 3-4 times sooo.

'Give me a break man. I almost thought I was in purgatory.' I replied.

'If you were in purgatory then I am sure I would be too. We're partners in crime, remember?'

'Yeah, but since I am mostly responsible for them, I don't think yall need to accompany me there.'

And then someone entered the room.

"It's most likely due to fatigue and blood loss. Don't worry too much he'll fine in a month or two." Some man in a white coat arrived, he looked like a doctor. No wait, he's actually a healer.

And behind him, there was a person I knew. It was Ram. The pink hair maid with a foul tongue.

"Oh I see you're awake." The doctor was a bit surprised.

"Well let's do a quick check up shall we?" He asked.

"Uh yeah." I replied.

"How many fingers do I have now?" He asked. I feel like he was treating when a person loses his memories. Nevertheless, I went along with it.

"Six" I responded.

"You can see colour right?" "Yeah"

"Try to move your hands and fingers." I did as told.

" How's your body feeling?" "It hurts a bit but I am okay."

"Would you like to try to walk?" He asked.

"Sure." I tried and was successful. It hurted a bit but I was okay.

"Does your head hurt or anything you aren't feeling or something is hurting?" Lots of questions but I responded with a no.

"Well, you should still rest a bit. You had broken your bones of your hand. While also received a lot of bruises due to sudden movement. Mending your cuts wasn't much of your problem but blood loss is still a problem. So don't go around doing fast movements. Okay." Lots of Advices but I nodded.

He talked a bit to Ram and then left.

"So Barusu, you finally awoke after 5 hours of sleeping like a buffalo huh?"

"Yeah, I guess. But how's Emilia, is she okay?" I was still scared if she got poisoned like the previous loop then…

"Yeah she's alright. Much better than you. Just resting a bit."

"I see, thank god." I gave a sigh of relief.

"It's already evening huh? Around 7 solar time. So when are we having dinner." I asked. I was already feeling a bit hungry.

"After 1-2 hours. Dinner will be served. I'll call you for dinner when it's ready. So sleep till you can. At the mansion you're gonna get a lot of work."

"Yeah yeah Tsundere-neesan." I responded with a small smile.

After that I chatted a bit with my spirits and answered their tons of questions.

Around 8:30 lunar time, Ram appeared with a plate of food.

"Wow, we're already having dinner huh? But shouldn't we have dinner at the lower floor? I asked.

"Yes, we're supposed to. But considering your condition and Emilia-sama's. I think it's better to have dinner in bed only." She said as placed the plate on a table. "I am off eating my dinner. Don't call me when you need something more okay?"

"Did Emilia-tan eat her dinner?" I asked.

"Of course, I gave her first and then came to give you. I already ate some of mine too but then I remembered I had to give food to you too."

"Always as harsh as ever. Huh? Nee Sama?" I said as I began to eat up food.

She departed without saying any more insults. I drank some soup.

"Ow ow." I burnt my tongue.

'Eat carefully man!' Garet commented.

"Yeah yeah." I said out loud.

After an hour, I ate my dinner. I came out of my bed and stretched up a bit. Not much to the level, where I would easily get a stomachache or any problem. Well then let's write a letter to our friend Rein shall we?

After writing the letter, I went to the counter to get the receptionist to get it posted.

"Ahhh, I can't sleep." I said out loud. Due to sleeping a lot in the afternoon, I can't sleep now.

"Well, just close your eyes. Or do you want your mana to get sapped?" Aqua suggested in her ever playful tone.

"Shut up."

"...ok."

I looked at the clock. Is it 11 only? I remembered how I used to stay up late, in order to avoid school by gaming all night. Well let's not get there.

I stood up from the bed. Let's get some fresh air shall we? I left the inn.

"Subaru-san! You should rest. You shouldn't be walking around especially like this." The receptionist said with worry in his tone.

"Don't worry. I am still fine." I said with a smile and went off.

After exiting, I could see the full moon.

I muttered, "Beautiful right?...but not as much as Emilia-tan. I ended the sentence with a smile.

As I walked a bit, I saw some Silver hair flowing out of a window. It was Emilia, I thought with a smile. Her silver beautiful hair flowed in the wind in the moonlight, it was quite a beautiful sight.

She's also unable to sleep huh? I thought first to talk to her but then dismissed the idea. Letting her in her thoughts, I had to give time to my thoughts too.

I started walking again. Some shops were still open while some were closing. The capital was going to sleep. The huge crowd that was in the day couldn't be found in the quiet streets that it was now. It was calm. I liked it. Even though I hated silence, it was really calm for me now. I liked it. Some lights were still on, unlike Japan or any other country the lights were less, but still it was a beautiful sight. Stars could easily be seen in the sky unlike Japan. I liked it. I walked through the streets, without making any sound.

Planning all the things that had happened and was going to happen. Piecing all the info I had and what was to speculate.

On a very peaceful morning in the capital of Lugunica. At a certain inn where two elves had come to stay for some days along with a pink hair maid.

"THUMP!"

"Ouch, ouch that hurt." I muttered while rubbing my head as I stood up from the ground where I previously fell in my sleep.

"What's the time again?" I said as I rubbed my eyes.

Upon getting the sudden realisation, I rushed to the bathroom and washed my face, made my hairstyle and changed my clothes after I got a bit fresh.

After ten minutes of rushing, I rushed to the ground floor through the stairs, while also making sure I didn't fall. Don't wanna get hurt after hitting my head.

At the ground floor, in the reception hall, where many people who were staying at the inn were chatting, having their breakfast and whatnot. Emilia and Ram were having breakfast.

"What a beautiful morning isn't it, Ram?" Emilia said as she sipped her tea.

"Yes, it sure is." Ram said as she ate her breakfast.

I noticed Emilia having her breakfast along with Ram. I greeted them.

"Good morning Emilia-tan. Nice day isn't it?"

"Yes, Good Morning. Come, Subaru, join us." Emilia responded.

"Thanks but I have some work so I'll eat outside. Thanks again and bye." With these words I rushed out. Knowing I was half an hour late.

"Hey, why didn't y'all wake me up?" I said while running while also trying not to bump as many people as possible.

"You fell from the bed, remember? That was my doing." Ivan said, he probably had a grin on his face.

I just smiled and ran through the streets to reach the meeting spot.

I arrived quite earlier than usual. For a half an hour. And one hour had passed since then. I wondered if Subaru-sama lied. Or has his condition become bad? I think I should go and check out on him.

Just in some moment of my wondering. The person who had invited me finally came. He had the same type of clothes as before, black rope along with red and orange stripes. And he was running?

"Yo, Reinhard. Sorry I am a bit late. Did I make you wait?" Subaru-sama said as he panted a bit.

"No, just 1 hour. It's okay. Good morning Subaru-sama."

"That's definitely a lot! And Yeah, Good Morning."

" And yeah Reinhard today don't consider any higher and lower ranking between us. We are friends today so just call me Subaru."

"Oh okay Subaru." I smiled. Having a new friend made me really happy. And then

"Grrr."

"Oh sorry, I didn't have my breakfast today." Subaru-sa- I mean Subaru said. His face was a bit red, not that I minded.

"That's no problem. Let's have some food before we head out."

"Yeah."

"You had your breakfast?" He asked while we went towards some restaurant.

"Yes, but due to my divine protection, I can still eat more." I replied.

"Wow, that's some divine protection." Then we went to a restaurant. It wasn't a fancy one but neither a really bad one. It welcomed all types of people, regardless of demi-humans or humans.

"We got a seat in a few minutes due to me being a sword saint as well as some people who had just exited.

Subaru ordered some sandwiches and tea, I went with the same. It was good that many didn't pay attention to us.

"So, Reinhard. I know it's a bit sudden to call you. But can you help me with the tour of the capital? Especially I want to visit some places too." Subaru said as he took a bite of his sandwich.

"Sure, I can help you with that. Would like to reach those places asap? We can reach there in a second by flying." I suggested.

"No, no. It's fine to walk." He frantically waved his arms and the idea was rejected.

"I see."

"Don't get dejected by such a thing my friend. It's better to explore places by walking ya know. What matters is the journey not the destination." Subaru said as he placed his hand on my shoulder.

"Yeah." I was surprised to see someone talking with me with such frankness as well as without any fear. The only ones who are like that with me are only Julius and Ferris.

After that we talked a bit about where to go and things.

While Subaru was drinking his tea, his eyes went in some other direction. And then he suddenly spat his tea. Normally the tea would have come on me. But due to my divine protection, it got deviated and went to its next target, spilling on a giant. The giant was definitely not pleased.

As soon as Subaru noticed his mistake, he quickly began apologising. But Subaru was held by the collar.

"I really apologise for the mistake. But can you let go of him? I asked politely.

"Huh? Do you even know how much it takes to get these clothes made? Especially this one, I just had it made yesterday!"

His friends and others tried to warn him. "Hey! Can't you see from his looks and sword. He's the sword saint! It's better to leave this."

"Like I care if he's a sword saint or a shield hero!"

I was about to draw my second sword I carried in case it was needed. But was stopped by Subaru,

'let me handle this.' Subaru telepathically communicated. He had a smile.

"Please, mister. Can you take your fights outside. " A demi-human maid requested. She had fear that if this escalated a lot of damages were gonna be done.

" I apologised and am ready to pay for your clothes. So can you let go of me?" Subaru said with a smile trying to convince me.

"And what about my mood?!" The giant wanted a fight. It was gonna happen. I wondered what to do, should I knock him out and run with Subaru? Or let him handle it! I chose the latter. If. Subaru can fight the bowel hunter and survive, then the giant has no chance. I'll interfere as soon as someone resorts to violence. I kept my hand on the hilt.

"Well, I can't do anything about it. And if that's what you want then so be it." Subaru touched the wrist of the giant and then, his hold over his collar loosened.

"Hey, what the hell did you do to me?!" The giant asked angrily. His hand wasn't the only thing that wasn't moving. His whole body was paralyzed.

Subaru fixed his collar and dusted his clothes.

"Eh don't worry just some magic foolery. It will get deactivated in five minutes." He said as he placed two gold coins in the hands of the paralysed giant. Took the leftover sandwiches. Placed five gold coins in the hands of the maid.

"Here, you can keep the change. It's a tip for you. " He said as he gave an eye wink and left while also dragging me.

"Well then I'll take my departure Everyone. I apologise once again for disturbing this peaceful morning." He made the declaration and left.

Everyone was dead silent. Nobody had expected this would happen, neither was I. This guy has definitely a potential to be a ruler, there is no doubt.

"Man! That was something. I didn't go overboard did I?" Overboard? I definitely think that was a bit overboard. I only thought that a fight was about to occur.

"I don't know about that but I think you were quite cool."

"I don't know about that either as he scratched his cheeks."

"Well once again. I would like to thank you, Reinhard. You saved mine and Emilia's life. I owe one." Subaru said he bowed in the middle of the walk.

"No, no, no. It's the duty of a knight to protect the citizens as well as a duty of a friend to help another in need."

"You're right."

"But Subaru, why did you decide to hang out with me, when you could have just gone on a date with Emilia-sama. You both got disturbed on your date right?"

"I can't say if it was a date or not. But yeah, I was definitely angry at Elsa for disturbing us. " I could feel the anger emanating from Subaru.

"But there's some things to do today, in which I needed your help and as well as what's wrong with hanging out with a friend huh?" Probably to leave your girl?

"And can I ask you another thing?"

"Sure, go ahead." Subaru said he munched on the last piece.

"Why did you suddenly spit your tea? Was it that bad?"

"Oh no, the tea was definitely good. But you see, my eyes wandered off to the newspaper that another guy was reading and reading the news that my maid helped in catching a criminal gave me quite a surprise."

"I see."

"Yeah, she is quite a slacker so when we're fighting Bowel hunter, she was helping to catch a criminal."

"By the way Reinhard."

"Yes."

"How did you send that message to duck immediately with Emilia?"

"Oh that, it was due to my divine protection of Telepathy. It is quite useful if I want to send someone a message without saying a word."

"I see. And what about that explosion you caused?" Subaru asked in curiosity.

"That's my Astrea Family Sword Art. Still, due to not enough mana in the atmosphere as well as a right sword. I couldn't do it quite well."

"You didn't use a sword?"

"No?"

"Then what?"

"Oh I just picked up a rod nearby and used my divine protection to mould it into a makeshift sword."

Subaru said as he placed his arm on my shoulder. "Reindard, you are an amazing man you know?"

"I don't think so." I just shrugged it off.

"Seriously man, can you teach me sword arts?"

"While I can, it requires a great skill and time and training. But most importantly due to Astrea having the skill it's easier to learn from the family then outside. I explained, that's why many tried but failed.

"Hm, well that was something I thought of but asked anyway. By the way can you teach me-"

One of the places we had visited was the place where the bowel hunter had attacked.

"Man, we sure made a mess huh?" Subaru said as looked at the street. It was in shambles, some people were repairing things while some were taking out the broken things.

The street itself was split in half. And at one place more than three metre radius crater was there, I was able to measure it, thanks to my divine blessing of measurement.

"It seems they have started the work this morning." Subaru said.

"Yes, yesterday it was closed for the day after the fight."

"I see." Subaru said and went towards a worker who was carrying the rocks that had been here and there.

"Excuse me, can you tell me where the office of the head of this area is?" Subaru asked politely.

Before he could reply, someone shouted.

"Hey! Isn't that guy who was involved in the fight that created this mess?!" A woman pointed at him

"Yeah, it's me." Subaru said as he rubbed the back of his head. Just after that, everyone left their work and surrounded us. Apparently they weren't very happy with all the mess. I mean no would.

"You have to pay for this!" A rock was thrown at us but Subaru skillfully caught it.

'Subaru, I don't think it's safe now. Let's head straight to the office.' I said telepathically. I was ready to grab Subaru and jump high in order to get out. All accused and screamed the punishments which were gonna be on Subaru. Shouts and accusations flew like birds. The previous silent and calm atmosphere was nowhere to be felt.

I was gonna say something but Subaru cut me off by placing his hand on my shoulder, signalling me that he can handle it. But if something worse happens I would take Subaru and escape.

"Everyone please, calm down!" Subaru's voice echoed through the street. Everyone felt silent by the roar.

"Please give me 5 minutes to speak. After that you can decide what action you should take."

"So you're trying to butter us up by giving money huh? We ain't going to get sold by money!"

"Winston, let's listen first to what he has to say." An elderly spoke up. He seemed wise. It seemed that many respected him in this area.

"Thank you." Subaru bowed, while the elder nodded.

"I accept that I am fully accountable for all the damage that has happened here. And I am just here to resolve that problem."

"And what about our safety as well as business? This event has spread across the capital, people wouldn't come here for buying anything now!" Someone interrupted.

"I can understand your concern. I will have knights patrol this area every day." I spoke up.

"As our sword saint said. And if any loss occurs due to people not coming in this area. I will pay for the loss. I am also ready for whatever payment I have to pay for damage. If I go back on my word then you can give me any punishment you want, even if it's death.

"Subaru, that's-"

"It's okay. I would have been responsible if anyone got injured or casualties. So I would like to give a cheque and also get some details about the money required for damage."

"You seem trustable. But remember if anything happens you may have to take responsibility." Elder warned.

"Winston, show them the way to the office."

"Yes, grandpa." The man nodded and took us. He led us and we followed.

"I apologise for what I said earlier as well as for my behaviour. " The guy without turning back. We continued walking.

"It's okay, man. I can understand." Subaru shrugged it off as if what had happened earlier wasn't serious at all.

"I am Winston Night. Nice to meet you." The guy finally faced us and forwarded his hand.

Subaru shaked his hand. "Natsuki Subaru, pleasure to meet your acquaintance."

"I am-"

"Of course, I know you are the sword saint right? I am a big fan!" Winston said with stars in his eyes as he shook my hand rapidly.

We finally stopped at a door.

"Here, the path ahead is yours. "

"You aren't coming?" I asked.

"Nah, my work is done. You should meet the head yourself, I don't wanna see his face." He must have his own reasons.

"I see, well thank you Winston I hope we will work together someday." Subaru said as he shaked his hand.

"Feelings are the same. See ya then." He said as he saluted me and went back.

We finally entered.

"You both finally came, huh?" A guy with a black robe and a bandana on his head said. He was a moustachioed man with some beard.

"Nice to meet you sir. I am Subaru Natsuki and he, you may already know, is Reinhard Van Astrea." Subaru introduced us.

"Of course, I know both of you. Here please take a seat." He gestured towards one of the couches. After sitting he finally introduced.

"I am John Night, the head of this area." Night, same family name as Clark, they both look the same too. Blue hair, with the same type of earrings. The only difference was their eyes, one has green while other has red. It was more noticeable due to their naming patterns

"Night, are you somehow related to Winston?" Subaru asked my doubt.

"Yes, yes. He's my son. I apologise on his behalf if he has misbehaved or caused any trouble. Please forgive him, he is quite rash but a good kid." He bowed his head. I was right

"It's okay. It's okay. I can understand." I wondered how he could understand, wait, does he have children?! Well considering his relationship with Emilia-sama, it won't be hard to believe. And elves have long lifespan too.

'No Reinhard, you're completely wrong. Stop making weird assumptions!' Subaru said telepathically. I was surprised that he was able to communicate back.

Subaru coughed a bit, probably to get the thought out.

"Well, may I know why we owe you a visit?" The head finally asked.

"Oh, yeah. Since we were responsible for all this mess. I would like to compensate for all this. Also I would like to help with a bit of restructuring the area." Subaru explained as he placed a cheque on the desk.

'You brought a cheque? I thought we would just sign a contract.' I said telepathically.

'My friend, you always have to be prepared. If things escalated at the restaurant this morning then I was ready to pay for that, so I brought two cheques.' Subaru replied with a chuckle.

'You are quite amazing ya know?'

'Thanks.'

Inside of Subaru's mind:

'Well how can I say that I walked at night to the bank to get the cheque even though I knew it would be closed. So after visiting the night ones, I still failed since the cheque requires Roswaal's sign and the cheques we've bought are with Ram, and I can't disturb her. Then I came back after my walk and then Kuro and others had to work overtime to do a mission to get the cheques without making her aware. Well I would just tell her afterwards…maybe. Anyways as Reigen Arataka has the policy, fake it till you make it.'

"So can we discuss some finances and stuff?"

"Yes, it would be a pleasure." And then all the talks just happened what Subaru said.

So I would just tell why we're at the head of the area instead of the district's handler. Well since the capital is quite a big place. So it's divided into 4 districts. But even governing a district is quite a major task. So it's further divided into areas. Their head is a person elected by the masses of that area.

Discussion ended with two of us paying a due amount necessary for now as some money had come from the district office too. And further meetings will be scheduled after some letters. I won't say all that happened since finances and economics are not my favourites.

One thing that happened was him profusely apologised for all the crowd event happened earlier when he heard from the maid while she came with some juice. After the meeting happened we helped a bit with reconstruction and stuff.

Well atleast Subaru didn't got mob lynched even though I wouldn't let that happen by knocking all of them even though I don't like it.

"Subaru."

"Yeah?"

"Did you thought about who might have given the order to assassinate you?" I asked. Bowel hunter or most assassins as far as I know don't kill people without any purpose or unreasonably.

"Yeah, I have thought about that, I also have some guesses too. But I will need some evidence for that." Subaru explained.

"I see."

"Well, all that ends well ends well. Wait, what was that saying?" We had a good laugh.

Just like that we walked and visited many places. Talking about various things. It was similar to hanging out with friends then just accompanying a noble as a bodyguard. It was fun. Evening came and we were walking towards the slum areas. I didn't expect that out of all the places we would visit the slums.

"Subaru, why are we heading towards the slums?" I asked in curiosity.

"Just want to see, how much area I would have to rebuild. Subaru said with an unwavering smile. It seemed practised but also felt natural.

I didn't use my divine protection of mind reading. I had deactivated and locked it a long time ago. While, knowing what's going on the other person seems fascinating at first, later you will realise it's a curse.

"By the way Reinhard, are there any changes in the prophecy?"

"Ye-yeah, there's one more candidate. Making a total of six."

"Can you tell me? Who are those?"

"Sorry Subaru, we knights aren't allowed to tell this information."

"I guess, I should say it myself. Those candidates are Crusch Karsten from the Karsten family, Anastasia Hoshin, head of the Hoshin Company, Baroness Priscilla Barielle The bloody bride and Emilia and Subaru backed by Annerose Milload and Roswaal L. Mathers respectively, while the last one is still noy found right?"

"Ye-yeah. You're fully right." I was awestruck.

"Well, Roswaal sure is handy for information ya know. "

"Yes, but are you gonna assassinate them?" I asked, that was one of the main reasons for keeping the candidates' names to be secret.

"I think some of the others know their other rivals too. And nah I won't try any assassination, It's better to just know your enemy."

"I see." I started to wonder if all these chatting and visiting places was to extract information. But till now, I haven't given him anything now though.

"I think most have their knights right?"

"Yes, except Emilia-sama and you, all the known candidates have their knights. "

"And what about you?"

"You mean, I am someone's knight?"

"Yeah, are you?"

"No, I ain't."

"I see, so would you be my knight Reinhard?" At that moment, Subaru felt like royalty as if someone with great power was standing before me.. Wind blew as he offered me his hand with his calm and kind smile. I couldn't refuse it.

I replied immediately. "Of course, I would be more than happy."

As I took his hand, my eyes widened with terror and shock. I immediately put my other hand on the hilt of the dragon sword. I could feel it. The dark aura that Subaru had. As if something really evil was within him, just waiting to be released. It was dark. I, for the very first time, felt fear in my life. Those eyes and the feeling which I was getting told were very different things.

Subaru put his hand on my shoulder and

"Reindard, you okay?" He had worry in his eyes. I decided to trust the present Subaru.

"Uh, yeah."

"Oh okay. Well, I am sorry for asking that question. You see, you can't become my knight even if I wanted to from the bottom of my heart."

"I don't understand what you are saying Subaru?" I was confused by what he was saying.

"Well, you have to be a knight of someone else." With that sentence, silence ensued. I couldn't give a reply and Subaru didn't say a thing.

After some minutes we stopped at a big house. It was quite old and was about 2 storey tall. I could sense the presence of two people there.

Before I could ask why we were here? Subaru knocked on the door. The door didn't open.

I went and tried to open it and…..I ended up breaking the door itself.

"Oops."

"Hey! We weren't supposed to do that!" Subaru said angrily while also whispering.

"Sorry, it just broke as I slightly pulled it." I whispered back. Subaru sighed.

"Well now since you have already broken it, can you put it aside instead of still holding it?" He whispered again.

"Oh sorry sorry." I whispered back while rubbing the back of my head.

"Don't worry we aren't here to hurt you." Subaru quickly declared as a giant was coming to attack with his club. He wore a vest, and was quite old judging by the haircolor of his eyebrows. He had some marks both in design as well as battle. It was obvious that this guy was no joke for a normal person. Not for me of course.

"And yeah little girl, no need to hide behind that counter, it's not gonna work anyway." Subaru said as he pointed towards the counter.

"And what do you think, we'll believe you?" The girl asked as she pointed her dagger towards us. She had blonde hair and blood red eyes.

"Well, if I wanted both of you dead, then you already would. And if 'we' wanted then Rein would have blown up this place into pieces."

"He's right, Felt, we can't win against the sword saint." The giant said.

"Good decision, so can we talk?" Subaru asked in a polite manner.

"Very well, take a seat."

We all sat at a round table. Subaru and the girl facing each other. While the old man and I sat adjacent to them.

"Well ,before we begin, I will introduce myself and hope you do too." Subaru started the conversation.

"I am Subaru Natsuki, and the person who you were following, right?"

The girl gazed away from him looking clearly guilty. The old man said instead,

"I am Rom and this girl is Felt. I am sincerely sorry for what trouble this girl has caused and I am ready for whatever punishment you are going to give but please let this girl go by." Old man Rom said as he bowed down.

"Gramps you're already bailing out?!" The girl said furiously.

"Hey, hey don't bow down like that, especially in front of someone like me." Subaru quickly said as he made Rom raise his head again.

"While this girl-I mean Felt definitely caused a lot of trouble, I am not here for that."

"And I can't arrest both of you since I am not on duty." I added.

"Well, let me clear some details before we begin on the main topic. So we both are not here to punish or kill you or anything. We have some other business. So, We're here to negotiate as well as a bit of talk."

"Hmph like I can trust you. Especially a noble like you." Felt said. She still had her hand on the sheath.

"First listen to what I say, and you have to make the decision yourself. I am in no position to force you."

"Speak up."

"Let's begin, you had quite a task given to steal a candidate's insignia. It's quite a big offence. But let's keep it aside since I know why you steal. But let me ask you something."

"Did that assassin come back yesterday?" Subaru left the fun tone and said with a serious one.

"No, she didn't."

"Hah, that's good. Well she was the bowel hunter ya know? You can ask Rein, he came at quite a good time, otherwise my friend and I would've already been dead."

"Huh?"

"Yes, she was one, but unfortunately I couldn't kill her." I said with a hint of remorse.

"Yeah, and I think you know that nobody has survived an encounter with her. So you are both lucky that you still survived. But there's a chance ya know? That she might come again. You did see our fight for a while right?"

"Ye-yes."

"So that's why I came to check on you."

"Natsuki-kun, I am really grateful that you helped in saving our lives. Felt, We should thank them that we are still alive. If they hadn't injured that woman enough then I don't think we could survive either." Rom bowed again.

"Thanks I guess"

"Man, I would have been dead too. So seriously stop with the apologies and thank yous. "

"Well that's out of the way, let's start with business, shall we?" As Subaru said that, the atmosphere became tense.

"So Felt would you like to work for me? And you Rom, you too." Subaru said as he offered his hand.

"Huh?!" Both exclaimed with surprise.

"Yeah, you heard that right. I want to employ you. Felt skill might be quite useful as well as old man Rom. I'll offer you quite a good pay as well as protection from the bowel hunter."

"Sounds good. Felt. What do you think?"

"And what if you just pushed in human trafficking or made us slaves?" Felt said with doubt.

"Great question. Well, I'll make a covenant with you. If I go back on my word. I'll lose all of my senses or worse die."

"Kid, I didn't expect you to go to such heights." Rom said with amazement.

"So what do you think? The choice is yours." Subaru said with his smile.

"Uhm,-"

"Or how about you become a royal candidate? " Subaru said with a grin.

"Huhh?!" This time I was also included. What did he mean by that?! This girl is the sixth candidate? How did he know about that?

"Big bro, I was about to accept what you were saying but now you're just saying rubbish"

"We'll see about that, give your hand." The girl did as said so. Subaru removed a royal insignia of his and placed it on her hand. It glowed. It wasn't as bright as it does on the normal candidate since this one belonged to Subaru.

"So she is the sixth candidate?" I said out aloud.

"Hey, what's the meaning of this? " Felt asked, clearly confused about this.

"You see, the stone in the middle of the dragon eye glows when it is in the hands of a royal candidate. See? " I explained as I placed it in my hand, it lost its glow.

"But can't I just stay as an employee of yours instead of getting involved in politics?" Felt asked.

"Well as much as I would love that, you know you being a maid and Rom being a butler. It would help a certain girl with her work a lot since someone most of the time messes up or slacks off."

Some quite long distances far.

"Achi!" A pink haired maid sneezed cutely.

"You got a cold Ram? Still, that sneeze was quite cute though." A silver haired lady said.

Back to our discussions.

"But it's not my mansion. While I don't think my sponsor wouldn't allow me to hire you. But, my sponsor is not a guy I trust, so I don't want you both in danger if he puts me in or you both get involved. While I guarantee safety but not the being in problem is something I can't guarantee." He explained.

It was a fair reason, Roswaal Mathers wasn't a person that could be understood or predicted. His face behind his clown mask, nobody could say what he was thinking.

"But, the main reason is. Instead of the throne going to the hands of someone like me or some other people. It should go to the rightful owner of the throne of Lugunica. And it's you. Felt."

"What?! What do you mean?!"

"Those blood red eyes and blonde hair, they are the main characteristics of the royal family. And do you know that when the plague infected and started to take the royal family down, someone went missing. And that's how you Felt, right Cromwell Velga?" Subaru said with a smile as he looked towards Rom.

Old man Rom looked tense.

At that moment I realised that Subaru had already planned most of this. While his asking of being his knight was genuine as none of my divine protections activated. But this guy had already found the sixth candidate himself and even the fact that it was someone of the royal family. Sure I was able to get the characteristics but never thought of the Cromwell connection. He was the same guy that had played a major part in the great demi-human war.

My admiration had grown more and expectations were being broken constantly by this guy.

"Yes, you're right. I was ordered to take away Felt so that the plague also doesn't take her and destroys the royal family. Nobody expected Fourier to also die. I raised Felt this whole 14 years and I had thought to tell her when the right time comes. And now it has. Since nobody would outright accept her."

"Well, Rom. You played your part and that's enough. I definitely like the idea of announcing Felt as a member of the royal family. But the arrogant nobles won't accept someone from slums. So we've no choice but to take part in the election.

"And what if I lose?"

"Hm, if I or my friend win then you would have passed the throne. We will announce it to the public. And if the other 3 wins then… I will make sure that doesn't happen." Subaru said with confidence.

"What were you about to say after the pause?" Felt asked curiously.

"Hm, well convince them. My friend and I are running for the throne for a certain purpose,if it's done then we won't have much reason to run the country. So isn't it better if the rightful owner claims the throne?

Before we two had 20% odds of winning randomly but now it's closer to 50% with you. So as long as we make enough efforts to raise the bar to 80-90%. We'll be fine." I wondered how much Subaru had already planned. If he was saying outright now then he would probably be a genius or if it's planned then that says how good of a tactician he is.

"So, what do you think? Would you like to join me in getting rid of slums as well as throwing off the nobles?" Subaru said as he offered his hand.

"Uhm.."

"You can take your time, Felt. You can stay at mine or Rein's home till then. It's a decision that will shape your future. Choose wisely and listen to your heart. As I said, I am in no position to force you. It's your decision about running for the throne, get hired by me or live your free life."

Felt looked at old man Rom and he replied,

"It's your decision, I have already lived my life." He said with a warm smile. I was a bit jealous of her. I wish I had a grandfather like him too.

She thought for a while. And answered.

"I accept. I'll run for the throne. If that's what gonna take me to the top then so be it!" She said as she took Subaru's hand.

"Well, that's great. Welcome to the alliance." He said with his ever smiling face

Just after that, Subaru slumped on his chair. His chair was so much tilted that any further will pretty much make him fall.

He sighed and said, "Felt, old man Rom, You should take whatever belongings you want. After that let's go, I really don't want an encounter with Elsa again." While most of his statement was normal as before, the mention of Elsa was in a quite dead tone. It had no life in it. I wanted to ask but didn't.

"Gramps, I am going to the den to take some things."

"Yeah, be careful."

"You should take Rein with you. Incase of Elsa appears out of nowhere." Subaru suggested.

"But Subaru, what would happen if she attacked you both?" I told my doubt

"Don't worry, I will throw Rom outside as fast and far as possible. And deal with her, till you return." Subaru said as waived it off.

"Hey, I can fight too you know, just because I am old, doesn't mean I have lost my edge yet. "

"I know, I know, but since I have taken responsibility, I will fulfil it to death." Subaru said nonchalantly about his death, as if it was a joke. I have started to worry about Subaru now.

Even if Subaru was saying this confidently. If he fought now, he wouldn't be able to put up an average fight.

On a bed, a silver haired girl lay on the bed, as the doctor tended to her wounds. She had many injuries, gashes and whatnot.

"Meryl-san." The girl said. There was pain in her voice. The weight of the pain and injuries had finally come into effect.

"Emilia-san, you should not speak now. I know it may be painful. But please bear it."

"Please, listen. Subaru mentioned something about poison so please get him checked thoroughly. "

"What?" The woman in white coat and mask asked in astonishment. The situation of the girl wasn't in any fatal condition. But the healing of wounds was much harder because of the large amount of wounds.

"Yes, please check any traces of poison. Even tiny ones."

"Yes, definitely." The assistant quickly went to the doctor healing the silver haired elf's wounds. And actually some traces of slow poison were actually found. But thankfully, most amounts of poison were removed from both.

Due to the poison. Subaru is still a bit weak, even if he won't accept infront on anyone. It was true. It was necessary for him to rest for a while.

"But kid, I am sure you must have sustained some injuries right? If something happens I will fight, you are still recovering."

"No, no. I am fine as ever. I can still fight as normal."

"Ok, stop, stop. Let's stop this hypothetical argument before it escalates more." I interjected.

"Yeah, no reason for a debate about something that's probably not gonna happen."

"Huh?" Both said together.

"I said probably."

"Let's get going, Rein." Felt said as she stepped out of the loot house. I quickly followed while ignoring the nickname. I liked it.

We walked through the streets of the slums for while. Some people just stared at at while some ran into their homes if you could call them that. Some slept here and there. Clothes that we're ragged. Children hungry. Suffering. I felt melancholic seeing the sights.

"Don't mind them. It's good you're even known in the slums, otherwise at least one or two groups must have attacked to rob you." I just nodded.

"It feels good to see this sight right? Watching people dying, hungry and suffering. You damn nobles." Every word that came out of her mouth was full of venom.

"No, Felt-sama I don't feel that way."

"Yeah yeah. Good natured guy."

We reached a shack. It was quite small. Even our mansion's bathroom was bigger. A plank was used as a door, wooden sticks and torn ragged clothes were used to make a roof. It couldn't even be called a house. It was truly pitiable.

"Just stand here, I'll bring my things."

"Sure." I replied.

After a few minutes, she came out, if you can say that, with a bag. It wasn't big but neither was it small.

"Well let's go. Everything's done." Felt said with a grin.

"Felt-sama, can I ask you a question?"

"Sure, also drop the honorific. It's annoying." Felt said as we walked.

"I am afraid, I can't do that. But what is that in that bag?" I asked curiously.

"Oh, as one can expect. It's money." She said with a grin, showing her canine teeth.

"Felt-sama, we aren't going to take any rent from you. I don't think it's necessary." I explained.

"Reinhard, this is all my hard earned money. Even if it's by stealing. I had refused to do nothing and starve like the people here. I wanted to get out of this stinky place. Now that I've gotten this chance, I won't let it slip by. But I can't just leave my money."

I could only reply with 'I see'. I had grown to respect her.

Just like that, we continued walking.

"We're back!" Felt said as she kicked open the door.

"DHAMM!" The door fell. I had forgotten that I had accidentally broken it.

"Felt, you didn't have to kick this hard." Rom said.

"It's not my fault, I forgot this guy broke it." Felt tried to explain.

"Well, good now that you're back." Subaru said while he turned from his seat.

"So Subaru should we get going?"

"Yeah." Subaru said as he put the knife in his jacket.

"Hey, big bro. Did ya take that just because we're closing?!" Felt said she pointed towards him.

"No, no. Just bought it." As he pointed towards the coins at the desk. While old man Rom just nodded.

"See, Reinhard, isn't this a good weapon? It's a magical one where you can infuse mana and use it to give an air slash. With this, even if the opponent dodges my slash, I can still attack at point blank." Subaru explained as if showing a toy.

"Yeah, it's quite nice." I took it and assessed it. It indeed was quite good.

After a while, we finally got ready to leave.

"Rom-san? Are you just gonna leave all this valuables?" I asked.

"Eh don't worry. I am going to visit it every once in a week. And nobody dares to come here without any real work. Or just for drinks. Anyone seeing the door locked would understand that I may be off for some work." He explained.

"Well then, let's get going!" Subaru and Felt said together. Felt didn't have anything while Rom lifted a bag.

"Are we going to walk all the way to Rein's home?" Felt said curiously.

"We would board a carriage after reaching the streets. " Subaru said as we walked.

While walking.

"Subaru, do you have any money? I gave all mine to the head." I whispered.

"Anyone would give us a lift by seeing you. And I've already called a carriage anyway so no need to worry."

"Wow." I couldn't help but be amazed by the amount of planning.

"It would be coming anytime by now." Subaru said as we finally reached.

After few minutes,

"Subaru, a thing has been going on in my mind." I whispered.

"Go ahead."

"How are we going to get Rom inside the carriage?"

"Don't worry man. That's why I got a carriage ready so that Rom will be able to get in." Just how much does this guy plan ahead of! I won't even be surprised if this guy plans about the start of royal selection.

And really, a carriage came. The driver said the name and we got confirmation that it was for us.

Felt went in first. Rom followed. It was true, the carriage was made in such a way that people like Rom could enter without any problems.

"Subaru, aren't you gonna enter?"

"No, not today. I have to leave for my place tonight. So I won't be able to join you." Subaru said with a melancholic smile.

"Hey, that's not part of the deal!"

He showed his left wrist, "It's still here. If I cheat you then I'll lose all my senses. Just write me a letter if you want to tell me something."

"It was a nice day, Reinhard. Let's hang out someday again." Subaru said as we shook hands.

"Yes, definitely." I replied with a smile. It was better to bid farewell with a smile than sadness.

"Well, then Felt and Old man Rom. I'll meet you next week or 2nd." Felt just nodded.

I boarded the carriage. Subaru waved as the carriage started moving.

"See ya big bro!" Felt suddenly removed her head and shouted and waved.

"Hey Felt! You shouldn't remove your head like this!" Rom said like a parent.

"Yeah! Take care of yourself." Subaru screamed back.

"Also take care of your girlfriend!" Felt screamed.

Like that, the day with a friend came to an end

"She's not my girlfriend!...at least not yet." I muttered the last part.

I watched the passing carriages for some more time, as wind flew and the sun which had fallen below the horizon.

"Are you done with your friend's date? Mr. Subaru." A silver bell chimed. The last part, which was my name, was spoken with sweetness. I liked it. It brought a smile to my face naturally.

I looked back. She was a beauty. Her silver hair flowed with the wind while her amethyst eyes looked at me.

"Yeah, let's go home."

AN: Hell yeah!arc 1 is finally over. It took me 1 year, 7 chapters and a one shot. But it is. Well Interlude was much longer than the prologue itself (1st chapter), never expected this to be 8k words. But this and 5th chapter took a while to write due to laziness as well as I getting stuck in writing dialogues (it was a bit dialogue heavy).

Also I don't think I've did the entire Felt conversation a bit justice so I may rewrite it again. But yeah, sorry for any repetition as well as mistakes. But onomatopoeia is fun to use. I thank you for reading this till now. I hope I am able to write more. I take my leave. Peace.
