Chapter 12: Traveling Under Cycling Road! Route's 110 Sea Walk!
Having stopped Team Aqua from stealing the Devon Goods meant for Cp. Stern, Michael and the girls soon decided to leave Slateport City and head north to Mauville City.
Ruby - "Sucks none of us have a bike to use. I would love to see the view of the ocean from the top of Cycling Road."
Weiss - "Don't worry Ruby. Perhaps we'll get the chance once we reach Mauville City."
While continuing along the lower walking path of Route 110, the party came across a stand-alone house. Then they saw the sign next to it.
Rarity - "Trick House? I wonder what this house is all about?"
Pinkie - "Only one way to find out."
Pinkie walked forward and opened the door. Upon walking into the house, they came across an empty room.
Whitney - "There's no one here."
However, Michael thought otherwise.
Michael - "Aura Sight!"
Michael then walked over to the table in the center of the room and reached under it, followed by pulling out the man that was hiding under the table.
? - "Hah? Grrr... How did you know I concealed myself beneath this desk? You're sharp!"
The man then stood on his own two feet and stood next to a large scroll.
? - "Behold! For I am the greatest living mystery of a man in all of Hoenn! They call me... The Trick Master! Wahahaha! Glad to meet you! You, you've come to challenge my Trick House, haven't you? That's why you're here, isn't it? Yes, it is! Consider your challenge accepted! Enter through the scroll here, and let your challenge commence! I shall be waiting in the back!"
Trick Master then disappeared.
Weiss - "Ok. Not to be rude, but he never even gave us a chance to respond."
Michael - "Well let's at least be nice and see what Trick Master's challenge is."
Michael pulled back the scroll, revealing a big hole in the wall and walked through it. The girls closely followed behind Michael.
Ruby - "Is this a maze of some kind?"
Bae - "It is Ruby. Looks very straight forward though."
Soon the party made their way through the maze. Upon reaching what they believed to be the halfway point, they came across a scroll on the ground with some code written on it. After some more walking around, they finally reached the end of the maze. On the door, Michael wrote down the secret code "Trick Master Is Fabulous". Upon doing so, the lock on the door clicked. He then opened the door and walked down the stairs, entering another room that was much bigger. Trick Master was sitting by himself at the table in the middle. He was shocked to see that the party made it to him.
Trick Master - "Aak! You've made it to me? Hmmm... You're sharp! It took me all night to plant all of those trees... You all are almost my equal in greatness by one, two, three, four, five six places! Fine! You have earned this reward!"
Trick Master gave Michael a Rare Candy as his reward.
Michael - "Thank you good sir."
Trick Master - "Not at all. But also scrub that smug smirk from your face! It's much too early to think you've won! I'll make new tricks to stump you all, I will. You may mock me only when you're done. Come back for the next exciting installment!"
Trick Master then disappeared again.
Clair - "Nice to know that he's determined."
Michael - "I'll admit that was a lot of fun. I wouldn't mind doing his other mazes if we come by here again."
Roxanne - "Most likely our best bet to visit here again would be either coming here out of the way in case we DO have to loop around for Lavaridge Town. Or after you beat Norman for his Gym Badge and we pass by here on the way to Fortree City."
Michael - "I'm fine with either."
They then left the room through a hand dug cave and appeared back in front of the scroll. The party then left the house and continued along Route 110. While walking along the route, Michael caught an Electrike, Plusle, Minun, and Gulpin. He also made sure the catches were spread out along the route. Soon the party arrived in Mauville City.
Ruby - "Finally! Mauville City!"
? - "Ruby!"
Ruby looked to see who was calling out to her. She then noticed who it was.
Ruby - "Yang!"
Ruby rushed over and hugged her cousin, very happy to see her again. The others soon joined them.
Michael - "Hey Yang. Good to see you again."
Yang - "Same to you Michael. I guess you and the others had a fun trip so far?"
Michael - "Yeah it pretty much has been. So have you and those with you caught any new Pokémon?"
Yang - "Iono and I haven't. But Rainbow and Fluttershy have."
?/? - "Michael!"
Michael looked to see Rainbow and Fluttershy running over to him.
Michael - "Hey you two. You both been behaving around Yang?"
Fluttershy - "We have Michael. Rainbow and Iono have even been helping Wattson with making sure the city's power grid is in order."
Michael - "Is that true Rainbow?"
Rainbow - "I asked Wattson for a few tips about making Sunnyburg solar powered, since that's where my gym's gonna be."
Michael - "Don't worry. I'll make sure to let you girls design your gyms how you want to when the time comes. By the way, Yang tells me that you both have a new Pokémon."
Fluttershy - "We do actually."
Rainbow brought out her new Pokémon Manectic, while Fluttershy had a Breloom.
Michael - "Not bad you two. And they're both well raised so far. Now are either of you putting them on your final team?"
Rainbow - "I'm sadly still figuring my team out."
Michael - "No rush Rainbow. Take as long as you need on it. How about you Fluttershy?"
Fluttershy - "I believe I have my full team planned out already."
Ruby - "Alright! I'm finally not the only one!"
Rainbow - "You have your full team already Ruby?"
Ruby - "Yep! Caught my final member in Mawile back when we were in Granite Cave near Dewford Town."
Fluttershy - "Congrats Ruby."
Michael - "So then Fluttershy. Who do you have in mind for your final team?"
Fluttershy - "Well, so far I have a third of my final team in Breloom and Vespiquen. As for the other four, I plan on getting Roserade, Skuntank, Levanny, and Scolipede."
Michael - "You can get a Roselia whenever we decide to pass through Route 117 to the west of here."
Fluttershy - "No. I'll just wait till we reach Sinnoh and catch a Budew, then raise it into a Roserade from there."
Michael - "That's fine. Now I can't remember where Stunky, Skuntank's pre-evolved form, can be found. But both Sewaddle and Venipede can be found in Unova's Pinwheel Forest."
Fluttershy - "I'm also gonna wait on Skuntank until Blake's back with us."
Michael - "Oh right. Stunky and Skuntank are dual Poison/Dark Types."
Fluttershy - "I do believe she'll let me catch Stunky, but I want to ask just in case."
Michael - "I have no problems with that then."
? - "Hey!"
Michael turned to see Iono running up to him, then hugging him.
Michael - "Hey Iono. Have you been good?"
Iono - "Of course I've been good. And we've got a special guest to watch over your Gym Challenge against Wattson as well."
Michael - "Who's that?"
? - "Me."
Michael looked to see who spoke, and he was shocked to find...
Michael - "Lt. Surge?!"
Lt. Surge - "Nice to see you again Michael."
Michael - "Same here. I haven't seen you since what, I defeated Giovanni at the Viridian City Gym?"
Lt. Surge - "Yeah it's been a while since then."
Michael - "So why are you here then?"
Lt. Surge - "The rest of the gym leaders and I agreed to get together whenever you show up for a Gym Challenge in the region you're currently traveling through. And unlike the girls here, I'm the first of us gym leaders that'll cheer against you."
Michael - "That's fine. All in good fun anyway. And I'm guessing the man next to you is Wattson."
Michael turned his gaze to the elderly man standing to Lt. Surge's right. This was Mauville City's Gym Leader, Wattson.
Wattson - "That I am, young Michael. It's an honor to meet the man who swept Lance with one of my region's own Pokémon to become the new Champion of Kanto AND Johto."
Michael - "Thank you for the praise Wattson. It means a lot."
Wattson - "Not at all. Now then. I've gone ahead and booked a few rooms for you and the girls to share during your stay in Mauville City. For the rest of today, you all can relax and enjoy yourselves. Then come tomorrow, Michael will have his 1-v-1 battle with Iono, then his Gym Challenge with me."
Roxanne - "Thank you Wattson."
With that Wattson and Lt. Surge left to do their own things. Meanwhile, the party had lunch, then walked about the city to take in the different sights. Upon coming across the gym, Michael saw a familiar face.
Wally - "Aww, uncle, please? I want to challenge this gym and see how much better I've become. Please? May I, please?"
Bart - "Now hold on, Wally. Since you started living with Pokémon, you have grown quite a lot stronger. But don't you think you're pushing it to suddenly challenge a gym?"
Wally - "I'm not pushing it. If I combine forces with Ralts, we can beat anyone!"
Wally then noticed Michael.
Wally - "Oh! Hi, Michael."
Michael - "Hey Wally. Been a while since I last saw you in Petalburg City."
Wally - "Yes it has been. And I've gotten a lot stronger since we met. Michael, I want you and my uncle Bart to understand that. Michael, please, will you have a battle with me?"
Michael - "Sure thing."
Wally - "Michael, thank you. Okay... Here I come!"
The trio quickly made their way outside to a battlefield in the courtyard. Michael and Wally took opposite sides, while Bart acted as the referee.
Bart - "This will be a 1-v-1 battle between Wally of Petalburg City and Michael Masi of Pokémon Island. The battle will continue until either one or both Pokémon are knocked out. Are both Trainers ready?"
Michael/Wally - "Ready!"

Battle: Michael Masi (Mawile (Muscle Band)) Vs. Wally (Kirlia (Twisted Spoon))
Wally - "Go Kirlia!"
Michael - "Mawile I choose you!"
Turn #1
Wally - "Psybeam!"
Michael - "Iron Ice Head!"
Psybeam's Current Power: 65 + 32.5 = 97.5 + 19.5 = 117/2 = 58.5
Iron Head's Current Power: 80 + 40 = 120 + 24 = 144
Ice Punch's Current Power: 75 + 15 = 90
Iron Ice Head's Current Power: 144 + 90 = 234 x 2 = 468
Wally watched in stunned silence as his Kirlia was quickly knocked out in a single hit.
Bart - "Kirlia is unable to battle. Mawile wins."
Wally was massively silent as he slowly took in the one-sided defeat.
Wally - "I lost..."
(Music Ends)
Wally returned Kirlia, then slowly walked over to midfield, joining Michael and his uncle Bart.
Wally - "Uncle... I'll go back to Verdanturf... Michael, thank you. Being a Trainer is tough, isn't it? It's not enough just to have Pokémon and make them battle. That isn't what being a real Trainer is about."
Michael - "Not everything in life is easy. But that entirely depends on what we decide to do with our lives."
Bart - "Wally, there's no need to be so down on yourself. Why, what's keeping you from becoming stronger and stronger? Come on, let's go home. Everyone's waiting for you."
The duo then began walking back, then Bart suddenly walked back towards Michael.
Bart - "Michael, it just dawned on me that you must be one of the Trainers who kept an eye for Wally when he caught his Pokémon. Why don't you all visit us in Verdanturf sometime? I'm sure Wally would enjoy it."
Bart then walked back over to Wally and led him back to Verdanturf Town. Michael was ashamed of himself. He wanted to have a fun 1-v-1 battle with Wally, not a One Hit Knockout victory. To be fair, he was also blaming himself for not keeping Mawile's current power in check. He then returned to the Pokémon Center. Meanwhile, the girls had seen everything and were worried about Michael's wellbeing. They then headed over to the Pokemon Center and joined him.
Ruby - "You ok there Michael?"
Michael - "I'm fine Ruby. Just upset at myself."
Clair - "You mean what happened with Wally, right?"
Michael - "Yeah."
Roxanne walked over and put a reassuring hand on Michael's left shoulder.
Roxanne - "If anything Michael. I think Wally learned the bigger lesson here. And besides, in due time, you two will be on equal footing before you know it."
Michael smiled, knowing Roxanne was right.
Michael - "Thanks Roxanne. I needed to hear that."
Roxanne - "Happy to help."
Rainbow - "Now what say we get something to eat. I'm stavring."
