1. Beginning of the end
Maki could not believe her eyes at that very moment.
Her eyes widened in such a way, she felt that even her glasses would fall off her face and even her mouth had opened in surprise.
The sexy, energetic singer on stage, with an electric guitar slung around his neck, black hair falling over his eyes, dressed like a seductive Rockstar, was none other than Yuta Okkotsu.
The same Yuta Okkotsu she had made his life miserable in high school four years ago, calling him a nerd, a wimp, a dullard and other derogatory and hurtful things.
It was that same haggard boy that she had humiliated in front of the whole school in different ways. Harassing him to the point that it plunged him into a miserable depression.
It was that scrawny boy she remembered, he had left town without saying anything to anyone, leaving only a note in his locker saying he was leaving to pursue his dream.
And what was her dream? Apparently, to become a rock star. And he had achieved it.
Maki never thought she would ever see again the boy she bullied so much. She had completely forgotten about him, until that night when her best friend, Nobara Kugisaki, dragged her to accompany her to that concert.
Now overnight, his name was everywhere, his songs were playing on the most popular music platforms and his fans adored him. Including Nobara, who was melting for him and who was trying to reach that new star from the front row of that stage where he was moving freely, singing for thousands of people.
They were very, very close to admire that show, thanks to Nobara having won those tickets in a contest.
"Isn't he amazing!" shouted Nobara in Maki's ear, while jumping and clapping to the rhythm of the music "It's Yuta Okkotsu! The most handsome and talented boy of the moment!"
Maki did not know what to answer. She knew that this singer was the same boy she had met years ago, but now with a new look.
She was too stunned by the revelation. And by the strange feeling she got from watching Yuta sing with such passion and seduction.
Something in her chest fluttered every time he opened his mouth and let out his raspy, emotive voice. He looked fucking handsome and that was something Maki did NOT want to acknowledge.
The heat invaded her body every time he saw the movements with which he drove his audience crazy. A talented fuckboy.
"Is this Greek God who plays the guitar masterfully really the Yuta Okkotsu I knew?" She thought aloud.
She could not believe it was him at all. It seemed like a bad joke of fate. Maybe that was just the beginning of her "Karma".
That boy had changed so much, he was almost unrecognizable.
This new Yuta was not at all that weak boy to whom she had thrown and his backpack out of the window so many times or the one to whom she had given several offensive nicknames. HE was not that boy whose heart she had broken.
Maki was still paralyzed. She couldn't believe her eyes. What had happened during those four years when he had disappeared? How had he made it to the top?
Shit, his blue eyes were fixed on her!
Was it possible that he recognized her among thousands of fans? Would he recognize her among so many girls? It seemed that he did recognize her, as Maki felt Yuta's gaze on her.
She notice how this singer's eyes widened in genuine surprise and he made a very slight pause while singing, almost imperceptible that could be mistaken for a pause to catch his breath, but there was something different in that look that once forced him to shed tears.
She could see the resentment in Yuta's eyes, something malicious could be seen in that seductive glow.
Maki felt chills when he smiled at her with a triumphant expression at the end of that song that spoke of heartbreak.
Maki felt like the world was coming at her. She wanted to run away, but Nobara grabbed her arm.
"Look Maki, he's looking at us! Did he notice us? I think he likes us!" Nobara shouted too excited to see how Yuta approached slightly with his guitarist, to that point of the stage where they were, just to sing a little and give them a smile before continuing to interact with the audience.
Maki wished the earth would swallow her up. She was sure that night would be the beginning of her worst nightmare.
"What's wrong with you?" asked Nobara when she saw her friend's uncomfortable face "Don't you like him? Don't you think he's handsome?"
-No... it's not that... and of course he's handsome" stammered Maki "It's just that... I know this boy"
"What?! What do you mean, you know him?!" Nobara was surprised at such a sentence that her friend pronounced with difficulty and which was quite a challenge to hear due to all the noise of the loud music.
"Yes... I know him because... we went to the same high school" admitted Maki.
"Really? tell me you're not kidding! You were friends?" Nobara shook her arm excitedly and shouted in her ear.
"No... we were not exactly friends..." blushed Maki.
"So what were you two? YOU MUST TELL ME EVERYTHING!" Nobara raised his voice and demanded answers.
But Maki could not respond. The music and the show continued with too much noise and excitement for almost an hour and a half more.
Maki all that time had to endure the songs that her friend and everyone around her chanted with excitement. She was also enduring the movements that Yuta made, as well as the chords he played on that guitar and all the gestures he made that drove all his fans crazy.
Although deep down, Maki felt that he was doing all this to indirectly annoy her. It brought back some memories of her high school days.
Every time he looked at her, she felt a mixture of shame, guilt and fear. Was this how Yuta always felt when he was with her? What was he planning?
Revenge? Humiliation? To ask her forgiveness? Perhaps he would soon find out.
After one more hour of show, the music stopped and Yuta stood in the middle of the stage to say a few words of farewell to his audience.
"Thank you for being here tonight!" he said with a charming smile. He really looked very sexy with sweat running down his forehead.
And as part of the show, he stripped off her black leather jacket to throw it into the audience.
One lucky fan caught her very excited. It was really amazing to see how many girls were now dying for him.
"I hope you enjoyed the show. I have had a great time and even more that I am closing this, which was my first national concert tour, here in my favorite city, TOKYO! SERIOUSLY THANK YOU VERY MUCH!" Those words drove his audience crazy.
Maki knew that statement was a lie. She remembered that Yuta hated Tokyo with all his heart.
Yuta continued to speak into that microphone with such confidence that Maki could swear that this was not the boy he had met years ago.
Maki was still amazed at the Yuta in front of her eyes. Since when had he become an expert at public speaking? She remembered him as a shy idiot who might wet his pants trying to speak in front of people. But now he was an expert at it. He moved with such joviality on stage that he really seemed to be good at what he did.
"But before I go, I want to give a very special gift" he said, causing the audience to shout with excitement.
"I have two exclusive backstage tickets, so you can meet me in person and chat with me for a while! Would you like?! Raise your hand if you want to be the lucky one!" Yuta smiled as he said that.
The audience erupted in shouts, jumps, applause and thousands of hands moving in the air trying to get her attention. Instead, Maki felt a cold chill run down her back. She wanted to escape from there.
Would he really remember her? Maki thought that maybe it was just her paranoia, but in truth, all this was causing her a horrible anxiety accompanied by chills.
"Here!" exclaimed Nobara, raising her hands and jumping up and down with excitement "I want to! Choose us!" she shouted.
Nobara tried to get Maki to raise her hands or jump for attention as well. But Maki refused. She tried to hide behind her friend.
Yuta looked around, as if "searching" for the lucky girl in the crowd. Playing and interacting with his audience.
Then he took a few steps onto the stage, stopping exactly at the spot where Nobara and Maki were standing. He had already had his eye on those girls for a while.
Yuta bit his lips slightly as he made sure to put more tension into the situation before making his final selection.
He gave a small glance at his manager, who was watching the whole show backstage. Just as he glanced at his band. Who gave him some encouraging signs, while Itadori, his drummer put rhythm to the situation.
"And the lucky ones are..."
Yuta exchanged a hand signal. His manager understood the message and approved what his star wanted to do. He quickly began to mobilize his team.
Yuta´s eyes returned to the audience and stopped on Nobara.
"You!" he said, pointing his finger at her.
"I? ARE YOU POINTING AT ME?" Nobara shouted excitedly.
Maki was petrified.
"Yes, you beautiful short-haired girl, what is your name? With whom are you accompanied" Yuta asked, approaching her. Leaning on his knee while he approached the microphone to those girls.
"No, No, No, No, No, No, this can't be happening! This must be a fucking joke" Maki's mind screamed. Her legs were shaking.
"My name is Nobara Kugisaki! I'm your No. 1 fan! And I come with her! My best friend, Maki Zenin" she replied excitedly.
The green-haired girl clenched her fists tightly, while looking at Yuta. His stupidly perfect smile, as well as his perfect blue eyes did not fail to focus them.
"Congratulations Nobara" Yuta said into the microphone "Because you and your friend are the winners of the backstage tickets!"
The audience again shouted and clapped their hands in excitement at what was happening. Nobara jumped for joy and hugged Maki. But that girl was just paralyzed.
"I can't believe it! We're going to meet Okkotsu! Maki, how lucky we are!" Nobara just screamed with excitement, while her friend looked at Yuta from below the stage.
The singer gave her a superb smile, gently lifting his face. Then he asked his staff and security to help those two to go backstage.
Yuta and his band went ahead, while security helped both girls pass through the crowd to the dressing rooms.
Both felt the looks of envy and admiration from the other fans watching them pass by.
Nobara was dying of excitement. It was the happiest day of her life. But Maki did not share the same excitement. For her it was the worst day of her life.
"Let me introduce myself, I am the representative of Yuta Okkotsu, Suguru Geto. It is a pleasure and congratulations to both of you for winning this VIP pass. Yuta will be with you in a moment, since he is changing his wardrobe" said the attractive man, who was holding a tablet.
"Thank you very much!" replied Nobara, too excited.
"Thank you…" Maki did not share the same enthusiasm as her friend.
She was terrified at the thought of meeting Yuta face to face after so many years. What was she supposed to say to him? What would he say to her? Would he insult her? Would he demand that she apologize to him? Why had she changed so much? And why was it all affecting her emotionally so much? Maki was really hiding that panic attack very well.
Those almost thirty minutes were an eternity for her, who only thought about how to escape from there.
Was that how desperate Yuta felt when she was near him? Did Yuta always want to run away from her? Did she give him that same feeling of dread in high
school? All of this Maki wondered, shaking her foot restlessly.
"Ready girls! you can come in to see Yuta now!" Suguru commented, once he stopped talking on his communicator, as they both got up from the chairs they borrowed to hang out "Our staff will take you to him right away" he commented as a woman with ash-blond hair approached them "Anything, don't hesitate to tell me, we're here to serve you, have fun!"
"This way señoritas" commented a female staff member, whose name was Manami Suda, according to her badge. "And please wear these badges at all times and do not take them off until the end of the twenty minutes you will have to talk and socialize with Yuta" she handed them two bright orange badges that read "VIP pass".
"Come on Maki, don't be shy!" Nobara encouraged her, pulling her arm, "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, let's meet the boy of our dreams!
"I don't think he's the guy of my dreams..." Maki tried to protest, biting her lip slightly in the process.
"Well, if he's not your type, then do it for me, your best friend!" insisted Nobara, dragging her to follow the staff woman.
Maki had no choice but to follow her. They made their way through the crowd behind the stage and all the production, sound, stage and security people.
After walking for a few minutes, they arrived at the first room before Yuta's dressing room. There, both girls met the other members of the band. They met the drummer Itadori Yuuji and the bass player Toge Inumaki, with whom they exchanged a few words and even took pictures.
After spending about seven minutes with them, Suda led them to the main dressing room, whose door had a sign that read "Exclusive Access".
A tall, muscular security guard was guarding the dressing room. In order to let them in, he asked both girls to show them their VIP badges. And after receiving orders from Geto through his communicator, he let them in.
"You have 20 minutes" commented Suda, who stayed at the exit with the guard for security reasons.
"We're inside Okkotsu's dressing room, I'm so nervous, this is all very exciting" exclaimed Nobara, very excited.
"Yes... we're in..." Maki repeated nervously. "Yupi!" she pretended to be happy.
They entered a room illuminated with soft white lights. There were several very comfortable sofas, a table with drinks and snacks, as well as a mini refrigerator.
There was also a large mirror with a beautiful dressing table and a door leading to the bathroom.
"Hello girls!" A young and masculine voice greeted them kindly.
"Welcome to the backstage and by the way I apologize if I kept you waiting, I was getting ready to greet you properly. I'm Okkotsu Yuta, but I guess you already know that, don't you?"
And there he was.
The boy who had gone from nerd to rock star.
He was sitting on the couch in the middle, with a bottle of water in his hand. He had changed his wardrobe. He was wearing a tight black T-shirt that highlighted the muscles of his arms, as well as ripped jeans and leather boots. His hair was damp and on his shoulders he wore a white towel, looking like he had just gotten out of taking a quick bath to wash off the sweat.
His face reflected a mixture of tiredness and satisfaction for the show he had performed.
Yuta was surrounded by flowers and many presents and souvenirs that his fans had given him. When he saw them enter, he stood up and smiled warmly at them.
"This must be a dream! I'm just a few steps away from the singer Okkotsu!" shouted Nobara with too much excitement as her idol stood in front of her.
"Thank you very much for coming and I hope you enjoyed yourselves. And tell me, how did you like the concert" asked Yuta in a sweet voice.
"We loved it!" replied Nobara, overflowing with happiness. "You're amazing! You sing like an angel and play like a god! Seriously, I'm your number one fan! You're the best singer I've ever heard in my life!"
"Whatever" muttered Maki, crossing her arms and wishing she was out of there. This girl had stayed very close to the door in case she had to run out.
"Thank you, you're very kind!" said Yuta, blushing a little at the praise.
"And I'm glad to hear that you liked tonight's show" he said, reaching out to shake hands with them. "Your name is Nobara, right?" He asked with a smile.
"Oh my God!, Yuta remembered my name!" Nobara felt like she was going to faint from excitement. Her heart was racing. "Really, I must be dreaming! Can I give you a hug?!" she asked euphorically.
Yuta laughed tenderly and motioned to Suda and the guard not to be alarmed and let that girl approach him "Of course, whatever my fan no.1 asks for" he opened his arms.
"I must be the luckiest girl in the world" Nobara shouted like never before.
Yuta smiled at that comment and gave her a hug. While the assistant took some pictures of that encounter between idol and fan to later upload them to social networks as part of the show.
"You're a very sweet girl…" Yuta whispered to her "I'm glad you like my music..." A sincere smile formed on his lips as he looked at her without letting go of her waist.
Nobara smiled back.
"I love your music!" Nobara whispered looking him in the eyes with a flirtatious tone without letting go of his arms "Just as I like you too..."
Flirtation and attraction was in the air. It seemed like an almost instant connection between those two. That embrace and those looks were lasting too long.
Until a noise of annoyance brought them out of that bubble of fantasy. Nobara's eyes sparkled like never before.
Yuta gradually released her, motioned for the guard and assistant to leave the dressing room for a moment and began to focus on the other girl.
"Em..." Maki cleared her throat. She felt offended that they had ignored her and she felt uncomfortable with the whole atmosphere between idol and fan "Well... I guess we should go..."
"As I said, I am very glad that you liked my concert" commented Yuta staring at the green-haired girl. "But above all, I'm even happier to see you after so many years... Maki Zenin, it seems that you haven't changed at all" he said with a somewhat flirtatious smile.
Maki was too surprised by that answer. She thought that the boy had really forgotten her. But that was not the case at all.
"Look who says so..." commented the green-haired girl with a grimace "You have really changed too much in these four years, I would even dare to say that you are 'another boy'".
Nobara looked at them with too much curiosity, so he decided to intervene because the whole thing felt a bit tense.
"Do you two know each other?" Nobara asked directly.
"Yes!, We've known each other for several years, Right Maki?" said Yuta with a mischievous smile without taking his eyes off her.
"Yes, we met many years ago, but in different circumstances hehe, but that's in the past" she approached Nobara quickly "Well, I think we should go now, right?" she looked nervously at her friend. She was trying to convince her with her eyes.
"Surely you must be very tired from the show you just gave and maybe you have more important things to do" said Maki trying to cut the conversation short, while taking her friend's arm.
"WOW! I thought you were lying a while ago when you said you knew him" she opened her eyes with too much surprise "And where do you know each other from?" insisted Nobara letting go of the green-haired girl's arm "I'm very curious and above all" her surprise now turned into a claim "Why didn't you ever tell me! Maki! Why didn't you ever tell me that you knew Yuta?!"
"It's a long story that maybe I can tell you later..." Maki laughed nervously "Now please... let's go..." she said between her teeth.
Yuta ran his tongue over his lips and prepared to blurt out a statement that would only be a big bombshell.
"Maki and I knew each other in high school, we were in the same class, so we shared the classroom. Do you remember?"
"Hehe, I hardly remember anything anymore..." he smiled through his teeth while trying to avoid looking Yuta in the eyes, "Please Nobara Let's go now!" She mumbled again.
"Wow! So you two were classmates? Were you two friends?" asked Nobara with more curiosity, as she looked at her friend.
Maki really felt very sorry for what was happening. She was too afraid that her friend would find out about her past "Well, Yuta and I..." she was interrupted before she could tell a lie.
"He he!, of course we were NOT friends. On the contrary, she was my bully" Yuta revealed with a big smile while looking at his guests "For three years in a row, Maki Zenin was my bully! She teased me and even humiliated me in front of the whole school, do you remember?" His voice sounded imposing.
Maki was chilled by how that bombshell was dropped that no one else currently knew about.
"WHAT?" Nobara was in shock at that statement, "HOW WERE YOU HIS BULLY?" she was annoyed.
"I CAN EXPLAIN!" Maki quickly waved her hands as she saw how furious her friend was approaching her. It looked like Nobara was going to hit her.
Yuta let out a few light laughs and decided to intervene in that, putting himself in the middle of both of them. Maki took a few steps back until she bumped into a table full of gifts.
"But that's all in the past." Yuta came a few steps closer to her, facing her,
"Isn't it? You said it, 'that's in the past', right?" he smiled kindly at her.
But the girl kept silent. Her lips trembled and her eyes behind her glasses clouded over. Was guilt eating at her in that moment of revelation that she even wanted to cry.
Yuta opened his arms. "How about a hug of peace? A hug would be nice after so many years of not seeing each other, don't you think? I mean, because it's really a great surprise that we meet here and in these conditions" he answered with a big smile.
Maki closed her eyes. She did not say a word. Now she felt angry at the behavior of the boy she "hated".
Was he just playing the victim?
Then she looked at Nobara, who was curious and annoyed by it all. Maki could see it on her face.
She knew she should tell her best friend the truth, even though there were still some things from her past that embarrassed her at present, but at that moment, Maki just wanted to run away from there. She wanted the earth to swallow her up and spit her far away.
She was cornered by the one she had bullied for many years. And to put an end to that awkward reunion and all that drama, she decided to play along with Yuta.
"Yes, let this be a 'symbol' of our peace" she faked a smile and gave a hug to that boy who was now a few centimeters taller than her.
That hug was too uncomfortable, especially for Maki.
"I'm still glad to see you Maki san... you don't know how much I wanted to see you one more time" whispered Yuta in her ear, in such a seductive way, that made her heart stop for a second and her cheeks turn red. Even her legs trembled.
Why did he become so fucking seductive? Why did he become so fucking sexy? His perfume was intoxicating and feeling surrounded by his arms, made her feel a thousand mixed emotions.
Maki quickly cleared her throat as she separated from him. "No hard feelings, right?" she looked into his eyes, hoping for sympathy so that he would let her go.
"No hard feelings!" Yuta replied with a smile that was hard for her to read.
What was she planning? Was she really forgiving him?
They both stared into each other's eyes and felt an electric spark between them. They remembered the moments they had shared in high school. The insults, the jokes, the fights. But also between them they kept several intimate secrets.
Yuta let go of Maki completely and quickly looked at his watch. Which, it read 10:30 p.m.
"Well, it's late and it's getting a little hungry already! Girls, how about if I invite you to dinner?" he smiled tenderly "It's been a while since I've been to Tokyo and I'd love to have dinner with my fans, no.1" he approached Nobara especially.
"I can have my manager reserve the best restaurant in town for the three of us." Yuta took Nobara's hand and very chivalrously kissed the back of her white hand. "Miss Nobara, do you agree to go out to dinner with me right now?"
Nobara was dying inside. She felt like the luckiest girl in the world because her favorite singer was inviting her and her best friend over for dinner.
"I'd love to!" She answered without a second thought.
"WHAT?!" Maki shouted in surprise.
"Perfect! So tell me where would you like to go for dinner? I'm buying!" Yuta asked with a sweet smile.
Definitely anyone would fall at her feet and Maki didn't want to be one of those who was easily fooled or easily led astray by a guy. But truly, this new Yuta would be a challenge for her.
And yet that night was just beginning...
Notes:
I hope you liked this new story.
The inspiration for this new fic came from trhee things;
The first came out of my curiosity to know what the relationship would have been like if Yuta and Nobara had met, coupled with the comment made by a guy who said that maybe Yuta would be Nobara's kind of guy.
The second, it was several images I saw of Yuta and the others as a second band and I said "Why not?" And here is the result.
And the third was because of the dialogue Maki says in the movie, "You suffered from bullying, didn't you? I got it right, huh? It's obvious. I would bully you too" and I said, Ok, she would be a trouble girl, in fact all the zenin would be the trouble boys, if not look at Megumi haha.
Also, that listening to Taylor Swift's Karma song helped a lot.
If you imagine what kind of music Yuta would sing, I always imagined him singing in the style of artics monkeys or the neighborhood or bands like that.
What did you think of the first chapter?
I hope you like this fic that will have its clichés. We continue to read each other.
