Alright, let's do this one last time. My name is Izuku Midoriya. I was given a quirk by my mentor, All Might, and for a little under a year, I've been a hero in training: Deku. I'm pretty sure you know the rest. I got into the school of my dreams, made a ton off awesome friends, and got attacked by villains. Then I got attacked by villains again... and again... and again. And I nearly ruined my arms. Yeah, we tend to gloss over that part. Look, I'm a student, I'm a hero, I have a small array of children saved. I have an excellent collection of All Might merch. And a so-so best friend. I mean, he's been worse.
But after everything, I still have dreams of being a pro hero. I mean, who wouldn't? So no matter what the villains throw at me, no matter the odds, I always find a way to come back. Because the only thing standing between Japan and oblivion is me. There's only one Deku. And your looking at him.
Izuku Midoriya groaned as he felt his phone ring. He had been having such a nice dream before this, nothing like the ones All For One had sown into his brain as of late. He rolled over what he thought was his bed, only to feel the hard concrete scrape against his tattered costume. This whole one man army shtick that All Might used to pull off was a lot harder than it looked, and he could definitely feel the toll it was starting to take. He mustered the energy to lean up and pull out his phone, the task feeling monumental in its own right. He looked down at who was calling. It was All Might again. He toyed with the idea of ignoring his call entirely, but ultimately decided he'd spare his mentors feelings this time. He answered the call.
"Young Midoriya!?" All Might's raspy voice shouted through the phone. "You Answered! Thank Goodness!"
"...What is it, All Might." Izuku groggily answered rubbing his eyes. The poor sleeping conditions and shouting were not helping the dull pain in his head.
"R-right! Well... This is sort of a wellness check of sorts?" All Might answered sheepishly. "Of course, if you picked up, that's a good sign. That's not all I need to talk to you about, though."
"Who am I after?" Midoriya asked. "And you know we're supposed to keep low communication. Who know's if All For One is listening."
"Of course, of course." All Might responded, clear worry in his voice. "I've been calling in with my contacts and found a possible lead on our next hired gun. If the intel is correct, the guy's name is Kaleidoscope, though I have almost no information on his quirk, or where he is located."
"That'll be good enough. Thanks All Might." Midoriya said before hanging up. He really wasn't in the mood to listen to All Might ask if he'd been eating or not. Not when there's work to do. Using Black Whip, he pulled himself out of the alley and onto a nearby rooftop. A guy named Kaleidoscope shouldn't be that hard to find, at least, that was the theory. Izuku used a combination of Float and Black Whip to fling himself around the city, absentmindedly theory crafting about the villain's quirk. It was one of the few joys he still had after their war with the Paranormal Liberation Front. As he swung, his mind drifted from the villain to his friends. He wondered how they were doing. He wanted so badly to go see them, but it was just too dangerous. Can't see them until All For One is behind bars. He refocused his efforts on finding the villain.
As if on cue, a flash of light went off a few streets down. Quickly, he made his way over to the commotion. As landed on a rooftop overlooking the scene, he took a second to analyze the situation. Let's see, brightly colored bad guy... No civilians in sight, that's good... A hero fighting the bad guy... Wait, is that Kacchan!? Sure enough, his life long friend(?) was battling against the villain. Katsuki Bakugo, his former bully turned sort of friend, was launching explosive volley after explosive volley at the villain, singing their orang overcoat. Getting a better view of the guy, he seemed like a mess. The villain had a bright orange overcoat that draped to the shins, a bright green vest covering a baby blue dress shirt, grey dress pants and matching shoes. The villain had a strange pair of goggles over their eyes. There's no way he can see through those. The villain launched a colorful stream of light at Bakugo who dodged with an explosion.
"You aren't him, boy!" The villain shouted madly. "Where is he!? Where is your green little friend!? If he isn't here, none of this works!!" The villain continued. He formed a ball of light that seemed to have shards of glass sticking out of it, and blasted it out at the bomber boy.
"Hah! If you were looking for that little nerd, sucks to suck! No one's seen him in weeks!" Katsuki taunted as he blasted back with his own explosion, neutralizing the effect. "Instead you get me, and I'm not in the mood to put up with your brand of crazy!"
"No! No no no no no no NO! I know he's here! They wouldn't lie to me! Not when we're so close!" The villain shouted back, a crazed smile plastered across his face. "Oh Izu~ku. Where are you~?" The villain called in an almost sing song tone of voice. That settles it. He is here for me. Midoriya got up form his perch and jumped down to the fight below. Using float to slow his fall, Midoriya landed between the two, cutting off the fight. His ragged mask and torn scarf had flown wildly in the wind, One For All flickering dangerously around him as he supercharged his fists with the energy.
"What do you want with me, Kaleidoscope?" He asked flatly.
The villain gasped. "You know my name too!? Oh boy, that makes me so happy! I've been waiting to see you for so long, and finally, here you are!" The villain danced in place, overjoyed at the surprise arrival.
"Deku!? What are you doing here!?" Bakugo shouted, equal parts shocked that his friend was even here, and annoyed that he'd interrupted. "We've been looking all over for you! Where have you been!?"
"That's not important, I need to focus on the villain." He said plainly, not even making eye contact with his friend. "Just us being together is already too much, you need to leave before he gets you."
"Like hell I am! No way am I letting you go again!" Bakugo shouted back. There was so much else he wanted to say, but it would have to wait. More important matters were at hand.
"Fine. At least get back. I can't risk him hurting you." Izuku said. All For One was surely watching. He had to be.
"Oh you two are like an old married couple. No wonder you all are such great friends everywhere else!" The villain said with a flourish.
"Everywhere else? What are you talking about?" The two boys questioned in unison. "Quit copying me Deku." Bakugo added.
"Hee hee hee, its fun to watch you guys bicker. Such beautiful chemistry." The villain laughed. "Of course, I can't dwell on that, I've got a mission to do." The boys focused up at that, each assuming fighting positions. "That got your attention, huh? Relax, I'm not here to kill. I'm just here to talk."
"Why do always want to talk!?" Bakugo complained.
"Fine, do it quickly." Izuku responded, ignoring Bakugo. This was his chance to learn how the villains quirk worked.
"Oh I knew you would listen. You always do." The villain squealed with glee. "Right, so obviously I was hired by All For One to take you out. Naturally, I did some research on you, to see what kind of person you are. I come to find out you are this super powerful rising star at UA, and that just gets me more excited. So the next logical step meant I simply had to look into your alternates, and what do I find? So! Many! You's! It's amazing how many variants there are on you specifically. There aren't even that many on All Might, and he's, like, the marquee character."
"What do you mean by 'variants'?" Izuku questioned. This was bad. Usually when a villain monologued, they would give off some indication as to what they were planning. This guy was making no sense at all.
"And here I was thinking you were smarter than that. Mister main character can't even figure out something this simple." The villain taunted.
"I've had enough of your mindless babble!" Bakugo shouted. He blasted forward and prepared to swing at the villain.
"Tsk tsk. Always the one note character, Katsuki." The villain said. With blinding speed, he launched forward his power, catching Bakugo in a crystalline prism. The explosive teen immediately made to smash the prism, but was shocked to find that he couldn't. "You aren't even who I'm here to see, so sit tight. Ill deal with you later."
Matter manipulation? No, that doesn't make sense. Light manipulation? No, that doesn't work either. Come on, I'm supposed to be good at this. Izuku's rapid analysis skills weren't working, and it bothered him a lot. It didn't help that his friend was caught. He wanted to fight right here and now, but he couldn't risk letting his friend get hurt.
"Those gears are caught on something, aren't they?" The villain teased. "You're so close to answer, but nothing quite fits right, does it? Go ahead. Best guess on what the quirk is? Go!"
"...Some form of light manipulation." He answered, keenly watching his opponent.
"Ooh, so close yet so far. Too be fair, the question was rigged from the start. You were never going to simply guess my quirk. It's not very common. I think I'm the only person in the multiverse with this power." The villain taunted, teeth flared in a mad grin.
"Multiverse? What are you talking about?" Izuku questioned. It made sense, it just wasn't supposed to.
"I can see it. You can see it too, by the looks of it." The villain clapped in delight. "My quirk is multiversal manipulation. I can see anyone's variants at any point in time, but I don't like looking at their future. Spoils the fun. I can bend it to my very will, making structures and attacks at will. All for the low low cost of knowing."
"...Knowing what?" Midoriya asked. He didn't like the way the villain said that last sentence. There was something foreboding in there.
"Hee hee hee ha ha ha!" The villain laughed. "Knowing how meaningless it all is. But that's okay, that's not my part to play. Speaking of parts, you've got the lead role, how wonderful. And it looks like your friend here is the supporting cast, how exciting. But of course, a play with no setting is just actors with no stage." He said gesturing to the drab street around them. "Let's liven up your scenery, shall we." The villain spoke ominously.
"That's it." Izuku's danger sense was going off wildly. He sped forward with 45% punch, but was caught in the same strange prism structure Bakugo had been caught in. The villain slowly rotated the boys around him as he spoke.
"That's no fun. Imagine if the main villain got take out in the first encounter. That'd be so boring. But what's this? I'm not even the main bad guy, its... its... it you!? What a twist!" The villain cackled madly.
"What are you talking about!?" Izuku shouted, losing his cool over the current situation.
"Oh you're no fun. It'd be easier to just show you, but that would just ruin the fun. Let's see, how do I wanna do this." The villain asked himself. Pausing the boys in place, he stretched out an arm and opened two colorful looking portals. One orange, the other green. "Bomber boy, you need to learn some manners. I think those two will fix you up nicely. Off you go." Without another word, Kaleidoscope sent Bakugo through the orange portal.
"What did you do!? Kacchan!" Izuku was panicking now. He slammed his fists against the prism again and again, but no matter his power output, he couldn't break the glass.
"Oh relax, he'll be fine. You on the other hand..? Hope you've mastered that float technique of yours. Be seeing you!" The villain launched Izuku into the green portal. The prism faded as he was pulled through the portal. He tried to use his quirk to stabilize himself, but it was no use. He flailed uselessly as he was shot through the dazzling green lights. Broken pieces of glass floated in the green abyss he was soaring through. He noticed they seemed to have stuff on them. He saw an image of himself with green flames, another with him in a detective outfit, and a third with him holding a wicked smile. Are those...me? As he continued soaring, the glass became larger and more compact, as if it was focusing itself. More images became clear and more consistent. He was... hanging out with that support girl. What was her name again? Another showed him fighting off his friend Todoroki with strange metallic spider legs coming from his backpack. Another was him fighting the hero killer Stain in an abandoned theater with what looked like a strange mech suit fighting beside him. The last image he saw before being enveloped in the emerald essence was of him fighting the sludge villain wearing... Bakugo's skin! He shouted for his friend as the green light turned white.
"Deku Scrub, we got something for you!" A singsong voice called out.
"Gimme a sec, I'm almost done working on a baby in here. Aaand done." Izuku Midoriya finished tightening the last bolt on his support pack. He seriously needed to find a better material that wouldn't get banged up so much in combat. Or maybe I needed to stop getting banged up in combat.
"Deku Scruuub, hurry up. It's hero stuff, come on!" The girl called out again.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." Izuku walked out of the workshop and into their office. "What have you got for me, Mei?" He stepped up to the computer, kissing her on the forehead.
"No romance stuff! We've got work to do! Or more accurately, you've got work to do!" Mei said, though the dopey grin plastered on her face portrayed a different story. "Eyewitness reports have been coming in about something crashing into downtown Tokyo. Some of them say it was a meteor, but a lot of others say it was a man."
"Okay? So what's the big deal?" Izuku asked, not really seeing the need for him specifically to get involved.
"The deal is that this could be our big break, Deku Scrub! Get down there before the other heroes do! This could be the boost our agency needs!" She said in pouty voice.
"Fine, fine. I'll check it out." Quickly, Izuku suited up, throwing on his Forrest green hero costume. He slid on the metallic gauntlets, slapped on his pair of boost boots, and slung his support pack on his back. Finally, he was suited up and out the door, saying a quick goodbye to Mei before speeding off to the crash site. On his way there, he recalled how he got to this point in the first place. Hmm, its been a long time since I started this. Maybe I need to recap. He thought to himself
Let's do this one last time. My name Izuku Midoriya. Mirio Togata gave me my power before he faded away, and for the last four years, I've been the one and only Deku The Hunter. I'm pretty sure you know the rest. I got mentored by Power Loader, my old support class teacher, went through some girl problems and... lost my friend, Kacchan. He felt a hint of sadness there, but kept going. Let's see, a couple people at my school got attacked, I had to fight the sludge villain by myself to avenge Bakugo. I fought Stain a bunch and won with Mei's help. All Might got killed by Todoroki but I won against him too. Mirio sacrificed himself to save Eri but gave me One For All, aaand I had to take out the league of villains without my power.
Now we fast forward a few years, I've graduated UA, I've got a hero license, and me and Mei own our own hero agency. And I might just marry her but no one told you that. He paused for a second. Who was that for? Whatever, enough reminiscing, its game time. With his thoughts in order, he slid to a stop in front of the crash sight. He'd honestly expected some other guy to get here before him, so where was everyone? He looked down in the crater in the road. There was sitting a very strangely dressed looking boy. His costume looked a lot like his own, but was torn to shreds. The red sleeves under were exposed, leaving only white gloves covering the hands. The hood of the costume was up, but it too was tattered. The metal mask was on, but looked on the verge of breaking. The only extreme difference was the yellow cape wrapped around the boys neck. Hang on, this guy's dressed a lot like me? He decided to try his luck talking with the boy.
"Hey, uh, kid? You're kinda blocking traffic. You okay?" He asked, sliding down into the crater to help pick up the boy. The kid immediately lit up, green sparks crackling around their body.
"Get away from... me?" The kid spoke through the muffled mask. The energy faltered for a moment before sparking back to life. "Who are you!? Is this some sort of trick!?"
Jeez, I didn't think my first fanboy would be so violent. "Listen kid, we don't need to be hostile, why don't we get you out of the street, and in some fresh clothes. No offense, but I can smell that costume from here." He reached down again to help the kid out.
"No... No! Get away from me! This has to be some kind of trick!" The Kid shouted, the sparks flaring all around. He took off to the sky, using some strange goo like substance to swing around the buildings.
"Ugh, why do they always run." Izuku said to himself as he prepared to chase. Using One For All, he blasted off into the sky to give chase, using his boost boots to stabilize himself in the air. Soon the chase was on as Midoriya followed the kid as he swung. Finally, he managed to catch up, at least enough to be within talking distance. He wracked his brain for something to say."That's some pretty impressive quirk usage kid. How'd you learn how to move like that?" He asked. The kid said nothing, only speeding up as he noticed Izuku hot on his tail. "Ugh, how do the other heroes make this look so easy. Look kid, you're not in trouble or anything. I just want to talk to you."
"You need to stay away. Being around me is dangerous. All For One could be watching." The kid said in a frantic voice. He seemed truly terrified of the man.
"All For One? Man, I haven't heard that name in a while. That dude is long gone. What are you talking about kid?" The hero called out once more. He was thankful to get a reaction from the kid, even it was just him slowing down.
"...No, this has to be some kind of trick or something. He's not dead. I know it." The kid rambled again. He looked like was rapidly loosing steam though, as he started floating towards the ground. He grabbed his stomach. Even soaring through the air, Izuku could hear that grumbling stomach. The kids eyes closed, and he started plummeting.
"Hang on kid, I've got you." He soared around and caught the kid, soaring back to the agency. "Mei, can you heat up some food. I've got a kid who's starving over here." He asked through his radio.
"Aye aye, captain." Was the cheery response from the the other side. With a short fly back to the agency, he opened the door and set the kid on the couch. In his hurry, he'd forgotten to take off the mask.
"Sorry to do this to you kid, but I've got to know." He reached down, and pulled the mask off of the kid. He saw... "Woah, that's... me?" It was like staring in a mirror. Okay, not exactly, like that. For one, the kids hair was a bit longer and draped more down, and there were huge bag under his eyes. Other than that, the details were the same, down to the freckles on their cheeks. It was like staring at a younger, more tired version of me.
"Pizza's... here? Whoa... Two Deku Scrubs?"
Shitty villains and his stupid shitty powers. Where the hell did he send me? Bakugo rose from his stupor. He had landed in a forest of some kind. It was cold, it was damp, and worse of all, somehow the season was winter, and he could tell. I hate this weather so much. He wanted nothing more than to blast his way up to higher ground, but he didn't want to cause a forest firs, so for now, he was stuck walking. Lucky for him, he was pretty close to the forest's edge, and soon enough, he made his way to a clearing to see...Holy shit! It's a massive Deku? It looks like a tree? And there's this weird destroyed fortress?
Okay, where the fuck am I?
If you couldn't tell by now, this is a multiverse story. I'm using characters from all across this sight in the MHA universe so if you don't want spoilers, I suggest you read those before you read mine. I don't know if those creators are gonna be okay with me using them or not but I'm gonna operate on the assumption they don't really care. We're starting with two of my personal favorites.
-Deku The Hunter: Support Hero by NicktheHuman
-Blessed with a Hero's Heart by Magnus9284
But I intend to use more if I even keep going with this project. Expect appearances from these:
-Viridescent by darkfire1220
-Apotheosis by Lord Wolfe
-Good and Evil by Roxas Itsuka
-Mightless by The Mysterious Banana
And more. And even if this never gets another chapter, all of these are fantastic reads and I highly recommend them all. For anyone worried about when exactly the story is taking place, this is during the villain hunt arc with vigilante Deku. I'll see y'all next time.
