"OK, so we're not in the same homeroom." Mowgli asked as he, Shanti and I walked away from Room 42 and 43 once school was let out for the day. "But at least we still have math and PE together. Not bad for our first day in middle school, huh?"
"Yeah." I said, still feeling glum. "Except for the Lucy part."
"Yeah, how about that?" said Mowgli. "She is so nosy, just like the Captain and Jane combined."
"Well, just be thankful she's not controlling our lives outside of..." Shanti said before bumping into a certain round-headed boy, Charlie Brown, who fell forward into the ground.
"Oh, gosh. I'm so sorry." Shanti apologized, kneeling down to help pick up his stuff that fell along with Charlie Brown, who apologized back. "No, I'm sorry. I should've paid attention to..."
He stopped himself short, staring at Shanti's exotic beauty.
"Are you feeling alright?" Shanti asked.
"Wha..." Charlie Brown said, coming back to reality. "Oh, yeah. I'm fine."
He quickly gathered his stuff, then hurried away from us.
"We've gone past the first day, and already, she's got a boyfriend." Mowgli whispered to me.
"Will you stop?" Shanti frowned. "It was just an accidental bump."
Mowgli cleared his throat, then said. "We...uh...better skedaddle. If we hurry, we can still make it to the grand opening of the Imagination Lodge."
"It hasn't happened yet?" I asked.
"Well, if I know the Imaginaries as much as you do." said Mowgli. "They probably wanna wait until you're here."
"I just hope a certain someone doesn't make a scene if he sees Mr. Beckwith." Shanti added, looking at me as we met up with our parents, who drove us back to Foster City School.
