Thankfully, I have roughly the first few episodes of the show written out and the first three chapters done so that I can upload them in the next few days. I only gave a small glimpse into the debt collectors coming after Yuki at her job but in the following few chapters, I will go into more detail about her life with her dad and little brothers and the debt collectors and why she smiles despite the pain she's in. Remember I own nothing other than the characters you don't recognize and any plot lines that don't follow the anime or manga.

Chapter 2: Grief can bring out the worst in even the nicest of people

The Urameshi apartment had never been so full, including when Yuki and her brothers stayed for a few nights. Ruby's eyes watched as more people than Yuki assumed would attend showed up at Yusuke's wake. Yuki was dressed in a black kimono, while her little brothers were wearing black suits and the trio was sitting against a wall out of the way of the people who came to pay respects to the boy. Like their sister, the twins were focused on the casket that rested in the middle of the room, their hands intertwined with their sister's. Astuko sat in an almost catatonic trance against the wall, while Yuki stared, her eyes devoid of all emotion and strength. There seemed to be an endless line of people entering the apartment to offer condolences to the grieving mother, with many people shocked to hear the circumstances of the boy's death. The atmosphere was filled with stunned reactions to learning that Yusuke was hit by a car in an attempt to save a little boy's life. Once Yuki had woken up and she had learned with he had done, her heart had warmed for a moment because she was proud of him. But the warmth in her heart quickly filled with an icy cold rush of anger from reality setting in, along with how many people kept saying that they couldn't believe it.

How? How am I going to make it without Yusuke at my side? Yuki thought as Kisuke shook her hand and broke her out of her thoughts.

"Yu, did Yusuke go to rest?" Kisuke asked, his voice small as if he was afraid to break the silence that filled the room.

"Yeah, he went to rest in a place where we won't see him again," Yuki spoke, her voice dry and shaky.

"We won't see him again?" Renji asked, his eyes red from crying so much.

"No...we won't," Yuki answered, her voice trailing off.

Yuki pulled her hands from her brothers' and she hugged them tightly, pulling them into her as they clung to her tightly. Kissing the tops of their heads, Yuki swore that she wouldn't ever leave them alone and that she would take care of them, deciding that the first thing she needed to do was figure out how to pay off the debt.

"Yuki?" Keiko called out as the girl turned to her friend.

Yuki only sent a faint smile at the girl that was being supported by her two friends, Natsuko and Asami, before they lead her out of the apartment. Keiko's cries could be heard from inside the apartment and Yuki closed her eyes as she tried to ignore them. Kikyo had walked in next, bowing to the boy's picture before she bowed to Astuko. The older woman walked over to Yuki and hugged her tightly, conveying all of the words she couldn't say to her through the hug. Yuki hugged her back just as fiercely as she fought back tears.

"Shut up! Let go of me, would ya?!" A voice screamed as Yuki and Kikyo broke apart.

"Who could that be?" Kikyo mumbled as Yuki looked at her.

"Kazuma," Yuki answered.

The six-foot-three male was storming towards the door, his friends attempting to hold him back as he used the door frame to pull himself inside. Seeing the angry, taller, and older male, the twins rushed behind their sister and clung to her kimono for protection.

"Damn you! You think you can just back out because you're scared?!" Kazuma yelled.

"Kuwabara, this place is for mourning!" One of his friends yelled, struggling to hold the distraught teen back.

"I'm not gonna leave. Not until he comes out here and lets me fight him!" Kuwabara yelled, stalking toward the picture of Yusuke.

"He can't do that!"

"I'm gonna beat you down, you punk! YOU HEAR ME?!" Kuwabara roared, near hysterics as he took a swipe at the picture of Yusuke. "Who do you think you are, huh?! Dirty...punk! Who am I gonna fight now? Who am I gonna fight now?"

"He's gone."

Kuwabara's friends were struggling to hold the larger boy up as Yuki walked towards the four boys.

"You're supposed to be here, for me..." Kuwabara broke down crying as Yuki reached the boy, kneeling beside him.

Yuki felt a type of understanding with the boy as he cried for the boy that he may have professed to be his rival, but she knew how close the two boys were even if they refused to admit it themselves. Kuwabara looked up at Yuki and their eyes met, brown eyes meeting red eyes as they both shared a look of understanding.

"Yuki, if Urameshi thinks this is funny, it's not. Drag him down here so he can fight me." Kuwabara begged as Yuki gently touched his arm.

"I'm sorry Kazuma...He's gone. It's true." Yuki whispered to him.

At her words, all the fight in his body had vanished and he allowed his friends to pull him out of the apartment. "Kuwabara, let's go. Sorry about all that!" Kuwabara's friend apologized as they left.

Unknown to everyone, Yusuke was in his wake and he was watching everything that was happening. His eyes were focused on Kuwabara being dragged away from the apartment as he wailed.

"Who would have guessed?" Yusuke mumbled as he saw Yuki walk out of the apartment.

"Did you see those scums?" Mr. Iwamoto sneered, his left fist balled into a fist.

"They're just some losers Urameshi hung out with. Too bad that car wasn't big enough for them too." Mr. Akashi spoke.

"Now, now. We should be glad. After a life of being worthless, Yusuke did something to give our school a good reputation." Iwamoto smirked, unaware of the boy in question floating behind him.

"Well, between you and me, Mr. Iwamoto. I'd say he probably saved that little kid on accident while he was trying to knock him down and steal all his lunch money." Mr. Akashi smirked.

"I wouldn't be surprised by that Mr. Akashi." Mr. Iwamoto laughed.

"Even at my wake, they knock me," Yusuke growled, reaching out towards Iwamoto's shoulder. "If I could only...!"

"Go away!" Yuki's voice yelled, breaking Yusuke's focus.

The girl was standing behind the two men, her hands clenched tightly as her body shook from rage. Her bangs covered her eyes as her little brothers glared at the two men.

"You two are so disgusting to me. Even at his wake, you can't help but speak ill of the dead. The two of you possess not even an ounce of decency." Yuki hissed, as Kisuke nodded his head.

"We don't want people who would wish ill on Yusuke to be here!" Kisuke yelled.

"Leave, right now!" Renji echoed.

"Ms. Yamamoto...we're deeply sorry for your loss," Iwamoto said before he was cut off by the look in Yuki's eyes.

Typically, the girl's red eyes were large and round, giving her a doe-eyed look. Though the eyes that glared back at the man, seemed to glow and fester with hatred and her round pupils had seemed to turn into snake-like slits. Iwamoto and Akashi were yanked backward and Mr. Takenaka held them both by their collars.

"What do you suppose is more disgraceful? That boy shouting in misery or your insensitive and idiotic words?" Takenaka asked.

"Takenaka," Yusuke whispered as he stared in shock.

"You two need to leave now. You're upsetting the family." Kikyo spoke, looking at the men in annoyance as Takenaka walked into the apartment. "Yuki, let's go back inside. You don't need to deal with scum like them."

As Kikyo talked to the young girl, her eyes returned to normal and she allowed the older woman and the twins to lead her back inside. Yuki watched as Takenaka respectfully bowed to Atsuko before he faced Yusuke's picture and bowed.

"At first, I was so surprised Yusuke. To hear you'd saved a kid at the cost of your own life. You've always acted much more selfishly than that. Darn it Yusuke, I don't know why I don't feel like speaking well of you. Why didn't you stay? You could have made something great out of yourself..." Takenaka spoke, lowering his head as his form shook.

Yusuke's ghost stood behind his principal, looking at the older man with a confused look on his face.

"Yusuke" Atsuko whispered before she started sobbing.

Yusuke could only watch as Takenaka stood and left, his mother fell to pieces, and his godsister crumpled to the floor. He could only watch as Yuki dropped her head and silent tears fell down her face as his mother buried her face into her knees.

"This way." A woman's voice said, causing all attention to be turned onto her.

"Yes, Mama." A child's voice answered.

Yuki and Yusuke both turned to see a woman with brown hair standing in the doorway and her hand was wrapped around a little boy's hand. The adorable boy had a bandage over his left eyebrow and a few scrapes on his angelic face, but that didn't stop the room from slowly suffocating as the realization of the two new strangers set in. Yuki moved out of the way so that the mother and son pair could pay their respects to the boy. The mother bowed her head and said a quick prayer before she nudged her son gently.

"Now you should say something to honor him."

"Thank you for saving me and making faces." The little boy said as he smiled at Yusuke's picture.

Yuki sank her teeth into her bottom lip as the mother bowed to Atsuko. The pair left the room after that and Yuki just watched as the house started to empty. Kikyo was the last person to leave and she left with a kiss on the top of the twins' heads and a hug and kiss to Yuki. The older woman didn't want to leave the younger girl, but she knew that she couldn't stay. Soon, the house was empty and Kisuke closed the door as Atsuko cried silently in the corner.

"Boys, I want you two to stay here. I'll be back, I just need to get some of our clothes." Yuki said to them as they nodded their heads.

Walking out of the apartment, Yuki slowly shuffled towards her family's apartment. As she approached the door, she pulled out her key and unlocked the door before she walked inside. Her eyes widened as she looked around the living room that was destroyed. Papers were scattered around the room, the couch cushions were flung around the room and the clean laundry was covering the floor. Sighing, heavily, Yuki walked towards the closet against the wall and she opened the door. Jumping backward, blankets, sheets, and towels fell out of the closet.

"What the hell was he doing?" Yuki mumbled to herself as she dug out three small duffle bags.

Yuki's POV

I sighed heavily as I walked around the apartment, grabbing whatever we may need for the time being when I tripped over something. Throwing out my hand, I caught myself on the edge of the counter and I turned around to see my father lying on the floor, passed out. Even though he could outdrink a fish, my father was a good-looking man with a tanned, pale skin complexion, deep brown eyes, and long black hair. A sneer sat on my lips, as I dropped the bags and I grabbed a pitcher quickly filling it with ice and water. Standing over my dad, I tipped the pitcher over and he jumped up with a scream of shock as he shook his head from side to side while gasping.

"Apathetic, aren't we?" I asked, slamming the pitcher onto the counter as my father rubbed his forehead before pushing his wet hair out of his face.

"Why would I care about Atsuko's kid? He's nothing to me." He scoffed, standing to his feet.

"I don't think that anyone matters to you," I muttered as he walked towards the cabinet and pulled out another bottle.

"Oh, that's right. I need money." He said, opening the bottle as I scoffed in disgust.

"I don't have any. It all went towards the bills for the apartment and the twins' school fees." I spat back, zipping the small duffle bags closed.

"Then you could give me the password to access your mother's trust for you three." He answered, my eyes widening in shock.

My eyes flashed over the living room and it made sense quickly. He was searching for the file with the trust fund information that my mother had left for us before she had died. Thankfully, I had the foresight to ask Ms. Kikyo to hold onto the file for me because I couldn't trust him around that much temptation and it seems that I was right to do that.

"I don't know where the file is. Mother hid it before she died and her lawyer won't give it to me." I lied as the bottle clattered against the counter nosily. "Besides, why would you need access to our trust funds?"

"It's none of your damn business, just get the password and give it to me." He demanded as I sighed.

"It couldn't be to pay off your loan shark...is it?" I asked, looking at him as he froze. "Yeah, I know all about them. They harassed me yesterday with Ms. Kikyo at her bakery and they demanded 29,282,600 yen from me. They also said that you said that I was going to pay it off."

"Because you are. It's your job to fix everything in the household."

"I'm not supposed to fix your messes!" I screamed back, turning to face him fully. "You're the adult! Why can't you take responsibility for what you've done?!"

My father didn't respond to my question, he only turned towards me slowly. As quick as a snake, his left hand shot out and it connected with my cheek. I fell to the ground and my hand touched my burning cheek gently as I looked at my dad in shock. Trying to recover from the shock of the blow, I was given no time to recover before he delivered a swift kick to my stomach, sending my body crashing against the floor as I felt the air leave my lungs.

"Shit." I wheezed out before he kicked me three more times.

Leaning down, he wrapped his hand around my hair and yanked me to where I was kneeling in front of him. "What was that you little bitch?"

"You are a sorry excuse for a father, let alone a parent. All you care about is yourself and after mom died, you got worse. What father would rather turn his daughter over to loan sharks to be used at their discretion to escape a debt that he incurred? Only the people who don't know you, would never assume that you're this kind of person. Your mask is breaking, Daddy dearest." I sneered as he punched me in the stomach.

"I know that you have the money, so hand it over." He ordered as I glared at him.

"You won't get it, not if I have any say in it," I answered.

Growling at me, my father began to drag me towards the counter and he opened a drawer, before pulling out a knife. Holding it towards my face, he held it very close to my cheek and moved it down my face before resting it at my chin. The tip of the blade gently dug into my chin as I stared my father down.

"It would be a shame to hurt that face. It's your only redeeming quality." He smirked as I scoffed. "So, this will have to do."

He moved the knife from my face and over my head before I felt the blade roughly slicing through my hair. My body froze as I felt my once-long hair being taken from me. Once the knife had finally cut away the last of the tresses, my body slumped against the floor as I saw my father hold my hair in the air with a twisted smile.

"This should go for at least $1000, maybe more." He chuckled, letting the knife fall against the floor. "Thanks for giving me money."

He grabbed his car keys before walking out of the apartment and I reached my left hand towards my hair. The ends of my hair curled at the top of my neck and I moved my right hand up, expecting the same result. Instead, my hand touched hair that reached my shoulder and the rest of it was shorter as it went towards my head.

"That fucking butcher." I gasped, my eyes stinging with tears.

Shaking my head in an attempt to push my tears away, I grabbed the duffle bags and stumbled against the counter. My left arm caught itself on the counter and my ribs screamed in protest as I tried to stand up straight. Slowly, I walked towards the back of the apartment and I started packing up some of the twin's clothes before I moved to my room. Turning the light on in my room, I saw that my room was trashed. My pillows were torn apart and feathers covered my floor. The drawers of my dresser were thrown across the room and my clothes lay crumpled on the floor. My school books, trophies, and other knick-knacks were strewn on the floor. The mattress was leaning against my closet door and it had two long cuts in the shape of an 'X' along the bottom. Walking towards my desk, I leaned over and picked up a shattered snow globe, turning it over in my hands as I cradled it to my chest. The snow globe had a picture of me and my mom when she was pregnant with the twins. She was sitting on the beach and I was sitting on her right leg, both of us smiling while we rested a hand on her stomach.

"Why would he do this?" I asked no one as I got to my feet.

I collected what clothes I could and my extra uniforms for school before I turned the light off and left the room.

Third Person's POV

Yusuke hovered over the apartment complex with one hand shoved in his pocket as the images of the wake flashed through his mind. No words would come to him as his mind flashed back to the main people in his life. He couldn't believe that Keiko made all that noise for him and no one would have predicted that Kuwabara would be that devastated. It had shocked him that Takenaka had broken down in tears and it was even more shocking that Yuki could get angry. The sound of a door closing caught his attention and he watched as his godfather walked out of his apartment and towards his car. Yusuke's eyes focused on what was wrapped around the man's hand and they widened in shock when he realized that it was Yuki's hair. The boy felt his stomach twist in a knot as he thought about how could a man be that cruel to his child.

"Well, have you decided?" Botan asked as she appeared next to Yusuke.

"Botan, hey," Yusuke answered back, his eyes focused on the girl he saw as his sister, slowly limping out of her apartment with something he couldn't make out clutched tightly in her hands.

"Yes, dear?" She asked.

"Have you ever not known about something?" Yusuke questioned. "That seemed obvious to everybody else?"

"That happens to us all I think. So are you ready now?" Botan asked, looking at the boy.

"Yeah, I am." Yusuke answered.

"Good to hear! Now, let's not waste any time and get this baby started!" Botan cheered, flying in front of Yusuke and the boy screamed, grabbing onto the end of her oar.

"Hey, where are you gonna take us?!" Yusuke yelled.

"To the Spirit World!"

"To the what?!"

"The Spirit World! We're gonna see someone who will explain the ordeal to you, and give you what you need!" Botan answered.

"What! What do I need?!" Yusuke yelled back.

"You'll see!" Botan laughed.

"Hey!"

As Yusuke and Botan flew across the sky, Yuki looked up at the sky with her face pulled into a frown.

"I could have sworn...that I heard Yusuke..."

The second chapter is finally done and I'm kinda proud of it but at the same time, I feel it could have been better. So, there was a small glimpse of Yuki's life with her dad and I'm going to say it here in case I forget to mention it in the story: her little brothers do not know about their father's abuse towards Yuki, his gambling addiction, or his alcohol addiction. I did wanna add a more innocent element to the story by having the younger kids in the story as supporting characters to create cute moments and to have a break in the action. I'm in the process of re-writing/editing the third chapter and I'm hoping to upload it soon and maybe create an uploading schedule as well.
