Fur smudged against the owner's pretty face, his cheeks pushed out and eyes squeezed shut. "How was my baby? Did Gumi pamper you like you deserve, my love? Daddy missed you so much, yes he did."
Megumi didn't know if he was feeling a disgusted itch from the baby talk or the upcoming allergic reaction Gojo will complain about later. "How was your trip?" The dark-haired man inquired as he took the kettle off the stove.
Steam arose in Megumi's vision, causing him to flinch a bit before taking out two ceramic mugs. Out of the two mugs taken out was one misshapen white one with a finger paint heart. It had the words Happy Father's day on the front. You could tell its age just by looking at it, which isn't shocking since Megumi made it in the fourth grade.
He poured the tea in with care, gently tilting the kettle as Gojo continued to gush. When the mug was placed down before him, Gojo began to tell his adopted son about the trip. "Boring. So dull and very much a waste of time."
Gojo is the CEO of his own company and because of that, business trips happen every so often. He usually just sends his secretary to go for him, offering her whatever hotel or transport she wanted. However, this time she was sick and couldn't go in his place. "Stupid Shoko." The white-haired man murmured.
Glasses slide off the bridge of his pale nose, exposing his famous crystal glare. The amount of girls Megumi has seen throw themselves from the look makes his eyes roll. "Yes, I bet she wanted to be sick." The vet stated sarcastically prior to taking a seat on their couch.
The two men still live together for three reasons. One, the hassle of either moving out is not something they feel like dealing with. Two, it's a four bedroom. Meaning each has a room, a guest room and an office that could be used. Lastly, both have no significant others and enjoy each other's company. Well, for Megumi it's a 50/50.
When Megumi was younger, Gojo could still afford this place. Megumi doesn't know how, since the white-haired man lived in a small apartment prior to his adoption. At that time, Gojo was only sixteen while Megumi just turned seven.
"I got something for you." Gojo uttered while placing Princess down on his lap. The cat curled up between the man's legs, her head resting on his thigh.
Megumi perked up and looked down at the white bag near his feet. "You didn't have to." He murmured as his lips pressed on the rim of his mug.
Gojo hummed in amusement, "you say that every time I get you a gift. Open it. Open it. I swear you'll like it." Megumi rolled his eyes as the older of the two clapped his hands together in excitement.
He reached down to place his mug on a coaster before grabbing the bag. A thin paper wrapped around the object, but Megumi already had an idea of what it was from the shape. "Another book?" The vet whispered to himself.
Megumi is not one of many words at times but Gojo is able to read his expressions fairly well. His eyes widened a little when he realized what the object was. That alone had Gojo grinning ear to ear.
The white-haired man laid back into his couch cushions, "I read the back and thought you might like it." Gojo's smile grew when he heard a soft 'Thank you' leave Megumi's lips. "Of course, Megumi."
Megumi took a short trip to his room to place the book on his desk. When he returned, a question popped in his mind when picking up his mug, "Do cops and firefighters do each other's jobs? Are they interchangeable?"
Gojo pursed his lips with a bitter look. His blue eyes darkening as they laid on Megumi's, "You need to get over it." The vet huffed out, making himself more comfortable on the couch.
It happened years ago but Gojo dated a cop. The cop was a lot more than a simple one-night stand for Gojo. They dated for a year and met when the CEO started getting death threats from rival companies. However, though everything seemed well, the cop randomly broke up with Gojo in front of an old bakery.
The breakup was weird, sudden from how Gojo describes it. It's been years since then, but the CEO has only grown more distaste for the profession. "I am over it." The older one huffed.
"It's been ten years; you'd think I'd be allowed to say the C word without the glare." Megumi mumbled. He knew Gojo heard him which is why he quickly restated his question.
"I don't think so." Gojo answered. The white-haired man leaned forward, head resting in his hands, "Why? Was a cop the one that saved my little Princess from a tree?"
Megumi spit out a bit of his tea from the question. He picked up his head, debating on whether to continue the lie or come clean. The mocking smile answered the vet's question, "How did you know?"
"The neighbors called to ask me if I was ok after the firefighters came to our home." Gojo let out an amused scoff, he was well aware of how demanding his Princess can be. He also knew her and Megumi didn't get along that well since he first came home with her.
"I'm not upset, but I will be docking your pay." Gojo waved his finger in the air knowingly as he spoke.
"You weren't paying me." Megumi clicked his tongue with a straight face.
Gojo crossed his arms over his chest, "not anymore I'm not."
A knock came from the front door, which was a little shocking since neither expected company. Megumi had one friend who always invited herself over, but she was working at the moment. Shoko, Gojo's secretary is a close friend of Gojo's but she usually texts before arriving.
Megumi answered the door, Gojo trailing a bit behind him, lingering out of the person's sight if they came in. His blue eyes scanned Megumi's face when he answered the door, which showed more emotion than usual.
The door was open now, meaning it blocked who exactly the person was. Gojo inched closer, but when he tried to approach the door, his son kicked him back. Now he was curious, in pain, but very curious.
Gojo rubbed his ankle where the vet hit him but stayed near the door. "I'm sorry I didn't realize sooner that her collar came undone." Yuji gave a nervous smile as he scratched his head.
Megumi's eyes trailed back to the item in the cop's hands, then to the flash bang of a smile. "Thank you… Mr. Officer."
"You can call me Yuji." Gojo raised a brow from the statement as he leaned closer to the wooden door. Megumi was still trying to signal him away using the fingers that gripped the door, but Gojo ignored. "Thank you… Yuji."
Megumi looked down shyly, his lips turning upward ever so slightly. It wasn't a complete smile but was more than his average dead stare. Awkward silence filled the air. The two men seemed frozen, as if neither knew what to say or do.
Gojo stopped trying to see who the man was in order to keep the awkward tension. It's not everyday he sees his son struggle to keep small talk; it was quite adorable.
"My friend's dog is sick." Yuji stated abruptly. When Megumi's head raised to look at the pink-haired man, he felt his words swell in his throat. He scratched the back of his head from nervousness, "She… umm. You are a vet right? Is there anyway I can drop her off…"
Megumi stared for a bit, his lips slightly parted. Gojo sighed internally, come on Gumi.
"Yes. Give me a moment and I'll get one of my business cards." Megumi's hand fidgeted on the door a bit, contemplating if he should keep it open or not as he rushes to his room. A small pressure made contact with his hand, which he knew was Gojo.
He decided to keep it open and move quickly, praying Gojo doesn't introduce himself in the time he is gone. While going up the stairs, Megumi looked down at his pajamas which consisted of a long on sleeve shirt and matching black pants. Sure, the outfit wasn't something he should be embarrassed about but knowing there were two small holes located on the shirt from its old age made Megumi anxious.
He liked to think the anxiousness came from not being properly dressed and not from the presence of the cop. Meanwhile Gojo stayed with his back pressed next to the door, checking his nails and waiting for his son. He could feel the nervousness radiating off Yuji, it was comical to him and noted to tease Megumi about it later.
When the vet came stumbling down the steps, clutching the card in his hands, his foot missed the last step. Gojo peered over the door just at the right time to see Megumi flat on the floor, hands held up to protect the business card.
The white-haired man clamped his hand over his mouth, eyes tearing up from the laughter. Megumi's head jolted up in a panic, while Gojo tried to keep himself from pointing and laughing. It's a rare occurrence but whenever the vet gets flustered his legs don't cooperate.
This happened at Megumi's fifth grade graduation where the teacher missed his hand when giving him his little certificate. It wasn't a big deal till laughter squeezed out from someone in the crowd.
Megumi's face bloomed red when all you could hear was Gojo wheezing in the room full of hundreds of people. The poor elementary schooler tried to scurry off stage but tripped over his miniature cap and gown, causing him to face plant in front of everyone.
That day, Gojo got a stern talking to from Megumi. Him and Shoko put him in time-out till dinner once they got home.
"Sir!" Yuji rushed, kneeling over the vet. Megumi tried to pick himself up before the cop could get to him, but he failed. Yuji reached out his hand and gently wrapped his fingers around the vet's pale palm. Once again Megumi noted how big the man's hands were compared to his, even though the two were roughly the same height.
"I'm really ok." Megumi mustered out when he was back on his feet. Gojo was able to calm himself down and scanned the cop, now that he could see him. His back was built, his shoulders broad and his pink hair was unique.
Gojo also noticed how before coming into the house, Yuji removed his shoes. Blue and green Pac-man socks lined past his ankles. "Here is my card, Mr. Officer." Megumi uttered while scrunching the pain out of his nose.
He missed the frown Yuji gave him from the formality as the cop took the card from his fingertips. "Thank you. I'll try to be by soon." Gojo pressed himself behind the door again as the officer turned around.
When the door closed, Megumi was gone. The vet was nowhere to be found until Gojo heard his feet shuffling upstairs prior to the shut of his door. "Oh no you don't! Who was that Megumi?" The white-haired man yelled before hopping up the steps to bother his son.
Sunlight glared down at Megumi from behind his window. The vet stirred under his sheets; his head laid on one of his many pillows while his hands tucked into his chest. His eyelids weren't strong enough to battle the gleaming light, causing him to wake up.
The beep of his alarm clock rang a moment later. Even though the vet was now wide awake, knowing that he woke up before his alarm made him annoyed. Megumi pushed himself up, his legs now hanging off the bed while his torso drooped over.
"Another day… ugh." The vet picked his body up with a yawn. He tottered to his bathroom, his walk resembling that of a newborn horse. Light blue substance squirted from the deflated toothpaste bottle before Megumi scrubbed his teeth.
The vet had a habit of pacing around while brushing his teeth. Picking up loose items around his room or organizing his sink before spitting the paste out. Warm water splashed against his face, officially waking him up as he applied face wash.
A small memory of when he was young flickered in his mind when he saw the suds lingering on his pale skin. Around when he first turned twelve, Gojo sat him down for an hour lecture on hygiene. Megumi was a clean kid but when the acne came in, Gojo felt the need to butt in.
"Gojo!" Megumi called out once his face was dry. He began pealing off his long sleeve shirt when he didn't hear a response. The vet peeked into the room next door where his father figure lay dead. The white-haired man scratched his naked stomach, drool pouring from his pretty lips.
A goofy grin spread across Gojo's face from whatever he was dreaming about. "Get up Gojo." Megumi stated as he turned the lights on and opened the curtains.
Gojo grumbled in response, turning his body and shoving his head in his single pillow. "Gojo get up." The vet hissed in annoyance. A ring from the door caught his attention just as he was about to throw something at the man.
With a huff, Megumi trotted downstairs and finished taking off his shirt. His finger swiped on the lock of the door, allowing Shoko to enter. "You have a key you know." The younger one began walking back up the steps as the brunette followed.
She knew the drill by now, she comes every morning and brings Gojo home every night. Sometimes Shoko sleeps over, which doesn't bother Megumi since she is like an aunt.
"Your coffee." Shoko stated once her and Megumi stood before Gojo's limp body. The vet took his hot coffee with care while Shoko placed the other two on the CEO's nightstand. She cracked her knuckles and bent back to stretch her arms in the air. "My weapon?"
Megumi quirked his head and handed her the water gun, "We need this job done quickly. He gets bitchy when his coffee gets cold." Shoko nodded and grabbed the gun.
The vet left the room before she began firing. While getting ready, screams in agony could be heard from the other room. Gojo pleaded as if his life depended on it, but Shoko just kept shooting. By the time the white haired man was ready, he seemed as if he had been through war. "Why are you using the water gun so much? There are other ways to wake me up." Gojo murmured while sipping his coffee.
Shoko sat beside him at the dining table. She stabbed the eggs Megumi made and took a bite, "I have to show my appreciation for my Christmas gift."
Megumi placed his plate down which consisted of strawberries. They were his favorite fruit so he ate them whenever he could. Gojo mimicked the sound of someone vomiting when he saw the fruit, "Terrible taste."
"Get over it." Shoko stated plainly, taking a piece of fruit from Megumi.
Gojo turned his nose up, glaring at his secretary. "I am, I just think the fruit is gross. This has nothing to do with… with…" The white-haired man hung his head low, cheeks puffed out like a toddler.
Megumi clicked his tongue, "I don't know where you get the energy to be dramatic first thing in the morning."
Shoko nodded in agreement, "Maybe it comes from all the extra sleep he gets since he never wakes up on time."
Gojo stayed defeated from the insults while the other two cleaned up the plates and started to head to work. Megumi's clinic is close to Gojo's building, so they usually walk together. Shoko entertained her boss by asking him about the trip. He then went on a whole spiel about how dismal it was and how she can't get sick anymore.
Once Megumi entered his clinic, he greeted his front desk lady and began to work. Around twelve is when his stomach started to rumble, breaking him from his trance. His last patient left a few minutes ago and after his lunch break, he has five more to handle.
Sadly, the only thing the vet is able to focus on when he isn't bombarded with questions is his phone. He has a work phone and a regular one, the work phone holds all the phone numbers of his clients. It is also the number printed on all his business cards.
Even while his patients talked about their animals or whatever worry they have regarding them; Megumi would give glances to the device. "Did the animal get magically healed or something?"
"What animal?" Nobara responded while peeking into his office. In her hand was a paper bag filled with Chinese food. Her and Megumi eat lunch together whenever they aren't busy, today happens to be one of those days.
Nobara is a model with her own fashion line. She moved to the city in middle school, which is when she met Megumi. "Nothing." The vet sighed, clearing off his desk for his childhood friend to lay their food down.
"That doesn't sound like nothing." Nobara pressed. Megumi knew she wasn't going to let this go unless he explained everything. So he did. The brunette casually munched on her food, chopsticks in hand as she hummed in amusement. "So… Gojo owes me twenty bucks."
Megumi's brow twitched, "What?"
"Nothing." The woman pushed more orange chicken in her mouth before leaning back in her chair. "How hot is he? He's a cop so he must be a fine specimen."
Megumi rolled his eyes, "I don't know Nobara. Nothing about his body… stood out." The vet looked away as he trailed off, which Nobara caught. "Really now? Above waist or below?"
"I'm not doing this with you." Megumi sighed before throwing away the scraps of his meal.
The brunette let out a small laugh, "If I knew your type was cops, I would have set you up with a friend of mine sooner."
"That was not the point of the story." The vet huffed.
Nobara merely waved him off, amused by the irritation on Megumi's face. His gaze soon changed when his work phone stirred awake. The notification that popped up on the bright screen made Nobara's smile grow.
