Chapter 37
There was no reason that any one of them should have to stay in the cabin all the time so that meant this morning it was Frisco and Sam that went walking what they considered their perimeter. After that, they would settle in out of sight and keep an eye on the cabin. Today there was another reason it was these two doing the watch, Felicia had some work of her own to do.
With a steaming cup of coffee in her hand, Felicia moved to the table to open the package that had been waiting for her when they arrived. There was a letter that went along with the package but Sam had actually brought that letter with them. "Okay, what do we have here?" she asked as she opened the letter.
Hello, Princess
I know you don't understand what's going on or why you are on a supervised trip with your husband. Trust me, that doesn't matter. There is so much going on and we need your help. You've never let us down before so we know this time it will be no different.
There is a package there waiting for you. I can not tell you where or how we got the tapes that are inside, it doesn't matter. What I need is for you to use the phone in that cabin to call my apartment and play tape one to me. There is a time and date for each tape. Please keep to the schedule as closely as possible. Since you are reading this I expect a call today. You will know when to hang up.
That is all I am willing to tell you. That is all you need to know for your part in this. Everything will make sense later. Thank you all for what you are doing.
Sean
Burn this letter.
Taking a moment to let that settle in, Felicia put the letter down. Then she reached out and opened the package to find the mentioned tapes and a tape player. Reaching into the box she pulled out tape one, she read the note attached. Place the call at 1100, press play, remain silent and hang up when the tape ends. Felicia flipped it over. Yup, that was all there was. Cryptic, what else would it be?
Felicia got up to get herself another cup of coffee. She looked at the clock, it was 10:23. Letting out a sigh, she took a seat at the table. Waiting wasn't one of her strong suits, especially when she wanted to know what was going on.
After passing time flipping through a magazine Felicia checked the clock yet again. Finally, it was almost time. She got up and went over to the phone, the small tape recorder already in her other hand. What was on this tape? Why was it so important that she doesn't speak? Once more she looked at the clock. With a nervous grin, she picked up the phone receiver and then dialled Sean's home number. As soon as she heard him answer she hit play on the recorder, then sat back, listening closely.
"Hello."
"Sean? I can't talk long."
"You shouldn't have called here. Where are you?" came Sean's response.
"I didn't have a choice. We are safe but I can't tell you where."
"What do you need?"
"We want to come home."
"We all want that. Is it safe?"
"No, we are still in danger."
"Does he know where you are?"
"I don't think he does but he almost found us already."
"What can I do?"
"Wait someone's coming."
Felicia quickly realized what she had to do and hung up the phone. Was that Anna's voice? Who is the 'we', she is talking about? Could it be Faison who is still after her? If they are alive does that mean Robert could be alive? What is going on?
…
Sean smiled as he hung up the phone. That will leave Felicia with so many questions but at least she was paying attention and hung up when she needed to. He knew these first few calls were going to be short, too short to be traced. That didn't mean someone wouldn't hear Anna's voice and start wondering what he was up to. As much as Sean hated it, he knew someone in the WSB could be working for Faison, or at least be willing to sell information to the highest bidder.
How many of these conversations will have to happen before someone takes their bait? Sean was confident that the line in his home office wasn't tapped but he had felt for a time now that his home line had indeed been tapped. He has already told Tiffany and a few friends so conversations are kept short just in case.
Even though this was going to leave Felicia with a lot of questions, Sean knew the three people in that cabin were smart enough to understand that they were only getting limited information for a reason and that they are important parts of this plan. For their own safety, being partly left in the dark was a must.
Now that the call is out of the way he had better get back to the office. There are cases that need his attention but he also wants to play up the appearance that he might be up to something. If he wasn't being watched at this point it wouldn't be much longer. There is no way Faison isn't moving into position for whatever his next plan is. He will make another attempt to take Anna and this time when he does, they will be ready.
…
After hanging up Felicia couldn't move. She was still sitting on the couch staring at the tape recorder. That sounded so much like Anna's voice. What was going on? All these new and different questions were swirling in her mind. There had been three people here. Who were they? Had Anna been one of them? Were they trying to lure someone out of hiding and were trying to trick them into believing Anna is still alive? What was going on?
Finally, she got up but it was only so she could start pacing. What was going on? As exciting as it was being a part of this, there was also a part of Felicia that wanted to be back in Port Charles watching as it all played out.
Then she was hit with the realization that she now has to decide what to tell the others. Even though Felicia was certain that Frisco knew more than either Sam or herself already. Does she tell them or should she keep the tapes and phone call schedule to herself? Does it help them to know? They are going to ask questions and maybe Sam won't push for answers but Frisco might. Was there a reason he was not the one chosen to do this part?
With confidence, Felicia decided then and there that she would keep the details to herself and only tell them that she now has a part to play and that it's better if they don't know too much about it. Felicia then went over and grabbed all the tapes and the recorder. She wanted to have them hidden away before Sam or Frisco wandered in. Then something Frisco had told her about his WSB training popped into her head. It's not a secret when it's part of your mission. This is a mission they are on and she will do her part.
…
It was a beautiful afternoon so the perfect day to take Friday for a walk. Robin walked through the house getting the things she would need together. As she started off down the sidewalk, she paused by a parked car and the window rolled down. "Hi, Ronda. I'm heading over to Olin's."
"Did you want a ride?" she offered.
"No, thanks. Friday enjoys the walk and so do I. This way he sleeps while we're there."
"Okay. I'm still going to follow you there."
"I know." Then Robin smiled and started walking. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon but it wasn't long before Friday was pulling a little harder on his leash. He knew where they were going now and the last time they went there he got to see his favourite person. "Slow down buddy. We'll get there soon enough." Robin was grinning as she walked as well. She is just as excited as Friday to get where they are going, she can just hide it better than he does.
When they got to the apartment building Robin went to Olin's first. They all knew if someone else was following her, she had to give them time to conclude she was just visiting Olin again. It was a quick visit that ended when Ronda called to say it was all clear. It didn't take long after that. Robin quickly said goodbye and then hurried out the door, Friday following right behind her. In a flash, they were at the door of the other apartment.
The secret knock followed by a bark confirmed it was who they thought it would be. Anna smiled as she got up to answer the door. "I like this part of hiding out here," she said grinning over at Robert.
"I do too," he agreed as he stood to join them.
The door opened and a flash of fur rushed through the door followed by Robin who was pulled into a hug as soon as the door was closed. "It's so good to see you," Anna said as she wrapped Robin in her arms.
"It's wonderful getting to visit you guys!" Robin agreed happily. "Hi, Daddy. Friday sure was in a rush to get here today."
"Hi, sweetheart." Robert stopped petting his dog and gave Robin a big hug. "Getting to see you is a definite plus to being here. I have missed you so much." Hugging her a little tighter for a moment then kissed the top of her head. Friday was demanding some attention as well so Robert turned and started petting him again.
"When do you think you'll be able to come home?" Robin asked as she and her mother walked over to sit on the couch together.
"That's hard to say. We can't predict that," Anna told her.
"But you're here. You're home. Why can't you come back home to us?" There were tears in her eyes now. The pain she was still in was clear on her face. Anna pulled her into her arms and hugged her tight. Robin is a strong young lady but this is not easy on her.
Robert came over and wrapped them both in his arms. A comforting feeling washed through him as he did. "We are almost at the end of this, sweetheart. I know this has all been very hard on you and we want to be home with you as much as you want us there."
"Even if that last part changes in the next couple of years," Anna added to make Robin smile.
"It won't be much longer and we will all be together. I promise you that." Robert leaned in and kissed Robin's cheek.
…
With big fluffy white clouds dotting the blue sky above them, Felicia and Frisco walked through the small meadow that would lead them up to their favourite vantage point to watch the area leading to their cabin. It had been too long and Frisco was starting to get uneasy. Why had they not had any visitors? How had they missed people in the vicinity who would be reporting back what they found? He didn't want to bring up his concerns but there was a part of him that knew both Felicia and Sam were feeling what he was.
Whoever was looking for this location should be there by now, he felt that deep inside. At any time someone was going to appear. Frisco tried to put that line of thought to the back of his mind while they walked. Enjoy the little things, he reminded himself. His work, his choices. They were causing issues for them and their marriage. They needed this time, he wished Maxie was here as well but that wasn't in the cards. "You look wonderful. The sun playing on your hair. You look happy."
"I am happy. I'm here with you. I miss you when you're away working."
"I know. I feel so torn. It was like music and police work. Home with you and our family, while helping the world by working for the WSB. It's noble but at the same time it makes me a terrible family man."
Felicia was taken aback, she stopped walking. Frisco turned and looked back when his hand stopped moving.
"What's wrong?"
"I never thought I'd hear that."
"It's kind of the elephant in our marriage. My heart is in two different places. It's not fair to you and I need to make a decision once and for all. After this when we are in Port Charles, I have some soul-searching to do."
Felicia threw her arms around his neck. "Thank you." Then she buried her face in his neck. They are finally going to have the conversation she knows has been coming for some time. What does the future hold for them?
After a little while in each other's arms, they turned and started walking without saying another word. There was a job to do and they had better get up to the lookout point. If they missed seeing the approach of those looking for their cabin and Sam was left vulnerable they would never forgive themselves.
…
The study was lit only by the light of the desk lamp. Faison listened to the report he had been waiting for. "Can you be sure of that?"
"I am confident, the man at the cabin is WSB agent Frisco Jones."
"He would help Anna. He was part of their little team back in Port Charles a few years ago."
"As for the two women we still have not gotten a positive ID for. One is definitely in disguise, though sir."
"Alright, this is all good information. Do not approach at this time. Keep an eye on what they are doing but don't let them see you."
"Yes sir."
"I expect an update in 48 hours."
"Yes sir." Then the line went dead.
