The sound of eggs cracking, and the sizzle of sliced bacon filled the room. Two soft pools of forest were staring down at the single pan that was on the right side of the stove. The feel for hunger was masked by her blank expression.

Maddy recently woke up 15 minutes ago in her small apartment above her Uncles private detective agency. The soft sun rays illuminated the large beige walls, the white framed paintings of Maddy's recent works of "Toons with Reality" gave a feeling of who the girl is from real life, and the soft jazz music from the small radio on the television by the large window leading to the metal railing gave the room a calm surrounding. Giving that its summer, Maddy's done with school until the end of August where her sophomore year will begin.

Being that its summer, it's the chance for the girl to relax, and have fun with friends and family. Not only that, but for her forgetting about the bad things that happened in the past. 10 months…since Marvin Acme's murder. 5 months since the near destruction of ToonTown. Those were the worst times Maddy wants to forget about but couldn't. Those times were traumatizing, and she even had nightmares of the horrid smell of DIP or the pain of a bullet going through her stomach.

The worst nightmare she ever felt was when Von Rotten Manor exploded behind her after she jumped through the glass window in sheer seconds… The loud blow and the sheer force of falling into the ocean were always in her head.

Maddy shuddered. That one memory. Oh how she wished she could just forget about it. Even as a horrid experience, she was named a hero of ToonTown to all toons. Either they were the good guys or the villains. After recovering at home, the mayor of ToonTown had invited Maddy to be given an honorary medal. As an honorary award for her bravery and for she did to save the cartoon world. She remembered how the toons saw her…cheers, squeals, hugs, saying thank you for saving their home.

The citizens only saw the mask and not what was under the mask.

All Maddy could do was smile and thank a few of their praises. With all of those praises and being told she was a hero; she didn't feel like one. Not that its anything wrong in being called that, but she just doesn't feel like a hero. Maybe because of the trauma she had endured, but she was told by her friends and family that she was a hero.

Mostly her uncle, Greasy, Smarty, and even Roger Rabbit told her that she is a hero. Even though she doesn't call herself that, they told her that what she did was the right thing to do and shouldn't regret it at all.

And that's all she needs to know.

Her thoughts were erased as the popping of the toaster came behind her. She turned and saw two pieces of golden-brown toast were on top. Both were crispy, and steam whisking out the crunchy toast.

"Okay," she whispered, turning back to see her eggs and bacon cooked to a perfection. Turning off the stove, she looked up to where her bedroom is. "Squeaky! Breakfast!"

The toon shoe, Squeaky, opened his sleepy eyes with two blinks, then made a huge yawn. He stretched his shoe shaped body, then bounced off his basket that was next to Maddy's bed and made his way down the spiral staircase.

After Maddy placed the two plates of breakfast down, Maddy went to get some coffee and utensils while Squeaky jumped on the table and instantly dived into his breakfast. The shoe chirped as he munched on his eggs with delight and hunger.

"Squeaky, don't eat too fast. You'll get a stomachache if you keep doing that." Maddy advised, coming over with a mug of coffee along with a fork and knife. The toon shoe squeaked up at her, his cheeks stuffed with eggs and bacon. Maddy giggled at her roommate as she started to eat her breakfast.

She will say, it was nice to not live by herself in Hollywood, but she never expected to live with a toon shoe as her roommate. She doesn't call Squeaky her house pet because that's not what he is. He's a companion to the girl, not a pet.

Looking over her back, her fridge had a scrap piece of paper that read "Appointment Yensid's!" and had today's date at the bottom with the time 12:00 PM. Ever since she was injected with the toon DNA, she has been going to the famous Yensid from Fantasia to see how the new DNA is getting along with her own. She has been going their monthly, and so far, the toon DNA gave out no complications internally. Externally is a different story.

For example, when she was working at her new job as a salesclerk in an antique shop, another clerk was getting an old vase on top of a shelf, but it somehow slipped out of his hands, and was about to crash to the floor. Before it could, Maddy jumped a good 10 feet from where she was, caught the vase, and slid on the ground an extra 5 feet. She remembered all the shocked faces from the customers and her co-workers looking at her, and the only excuse she could tell them was… "I'm on the Athletics team." Which she is not. Another time was when she was running around the local park. While on her daily run, she felt her legs pumping more energy, and going faster after every mile. She even remembered how her legs felt like jelly after her run. She also noticed is that her freckles on her face disappeared and doesn't have to wear her glasses anymore.

The only concerns Maddy has, is if the toon DNA affects more than what she's experienced? Will the DNA change her body to look like a toon? Or will she stay the way she is? That's all she wants to know.

Turning back to her breakfast, she took a bit of her eggs. The first taste made her realize how hungry she really is.

In ToonTown, it was like any other day. Seeing characters doing their usual cartoon fanatic either on the streets like the seven dwarves singing 'Heigh Ho' as they walk to work, or Wile E. Coyote chasing the Road Runner up and down the street. Seeing any of those fanatics is completely normal to any toon, but for those who never experienced it is a different story.

Up in a large castle-like mansion located on top of a larger hill, a particular toon was also having her breakfast, but she wasn't thinking about eating. Even though her dish consisted of eggs benedict, pork roll, and sliced avocado, Savy, the young toon woman, wasn't interested in eating. She brushed her midnight black hair away and turned toward the large window.

While her parents were away on business, Savy was in charge of taking care of her royal duties until they return. As much as she wants to think of the duties she has to do soon, the only thought that came into her mind was wanting something far more than new jewelry or dress. All she wanted in this world…is freedom.

Looking out the ink-painted countryside far out past ToonTown below, she had longed to see what was beyond the town, even seeing what the town actually look like. You see, Savy had never walked around ToonTown like any other toon before because she was so busy with her lessons, and other responsibilities of learning to run a kingdom. The only time she had explored the town was when she was very little, but she doesn't quite remember it as well as she hoped.

For one day, she wished she could just see the world, find her freedom, and not gaze it through her window. As much as it sounds easy to do, to a princess, its impossible.

Just then, the sound of large doors creaked open. Savy turned and her butler entered with a tall posture and looking down at a large golden watch in his right gloved hand.

"Oh your highness," he announced in a thin and somewhat fruity voice. "We're late for your duties! You need to finish your breakfast in under 5 minutes, so we can get to your royal fitting for your kingdom's anniversary ball that is in 3 days! After your royal fitting, we then move to your speech with the royal council. After that, we have to rush, and I mean rush to look over preparations for the ball." He brought out a long scroll that reached the floor. "Then there are your lessons. We have mathematics, geography, history, science…"

As her butler kept reading the list, Savy got off her seat, and walked over to the large window she was looking at. As she did, music started to wave out of nowhere.

SAVY:

All my life I've always wanted

To have one day just for me

Nothing to do and for once nowhere

I need to be

With no lessons, lords, or lunches

Or to do list in the way

No one to say when to eat or read

Or leave or stay…

That would be the day…

Out in the toon countryside, driving in her cream-colored convertible, Maddy was heading to ToonTown to visit Master Yensid for her appointment. Squeaky was in her front passenger seat, hanging his tongue out the edge of window like a normal dog, getting the taste of the air in his mouth As she was driving, Maddy suddenly began to sing a familiar toon.

MADDY:

All my life I've always known

To live life as a normal girl,

I never expected to ever

To become a human turned toon,

With this unexpected outcome

My life is a changing maze

I don't know whether to be brave or scared

Or just stay calm…

And not be so frightened...

Maddy sighed. "You know Squeaky, I don't know what I'm going to do."

The toon shoe squeaked and turned to her. He hopped down on the seat cushion and tilted his shoe head with a raised eyebrow.

"I mean, after dying a few seconds from what Yensid told me, I'm literally a whole new person because of the toon DNA now coursing in my veins. I know he practically saved me from death, but he also gave me a difficult situation."

She heard Squeaky chirp again. She answered. "Now that I'm part toon, I have all of these questions piling in my head like…what I am going to do in my life. Since I'm practically immortal, I can't stay at one job during my whole life. If I worked at Maroon Cartoons as an animator my whole life, people who see me suspicious in seeing me not aging at all."

Maddy sighed and shook her head. "I wish…I wish…" She tried to think of something else to say, but her voice turned into song.

What would it be like to be…?

SAVY (Looking out her window):

What would it be like to be?

Free…!

MADDY:

Free…!

SAVY:

Free to try crazy things!

MADDY:

Free from this mental cage…!

SAVY (Opening her window):

Free to fly!

MADDY (Stopping her car on the side):

Free of worry!

SAVY:

And finding my true love…

Savy held her heart-shaped charm with comfort. All her life, ever since she was a little girl, she had always wanted to find true love. In being a princess, she is a popular toon to those who want to see her and clearly admit there in love. With it being flattering, Savy doesn't want that. She wants someone to see her in more than appearance. She wants someone to love her…for her.

Her thoughts were interrupted when the doors opened again. She turned and two toons entered the dining room. One was a purple chameleon-like toon with four arms with three fingers, and the other was a green furred weasel with long hair and wearing a pink jacket with a red cap.

"Hi Savy," the green weasel greeted with a smile.

"Hi Wacky, hi Randall," Savy smiled. "What's up?"

"Just came to pick you up for your dress fitting." Randal answered. "Apparently, Joe tried to get you, but you seemed…distracted."

At the mention of her butler, Savy blushed. Guess her thoughts made her think out of the clouds. "Sorry, I guess I was…thinking too much."

After she said that, Wacky exclaimed like a hyena. He held his stomach as he laughs were echoing around the room. They soon ended as his eyes were big as saucers in seeing the untouched breakfast Savy had on her plate.

Wacky licked his lips while Randall groaned. "Uh are you going to eat that?"

Savy laughed. "No, you can have it if you want."

The green weasel licked his lips, then with quick feet, he sat on her chair and instantly gobbled her eggs benedict first. Randall rolled his eyes, then turned to the princess.

"What's with him and eggs?"

"He's a weasel. They love eggs."

Both of them laughed. As Randall took a seat adjacent to Wacky, Savy turned away as she looked around the room. The feeling of music came back to her.

SAVY:

You would think that I'm so lucky

That I have some great best friends,

I'm realizing what I have now

Is all I need

MADDY (coming out of her car):

Though what is going right now

I will not be afraid,

I will fight this battle

with great…strength…!

Now to seek it out…

SAVY (Following Randal and Wacky down the gray and pink trimmed halls):

Now I fear I'll never be…

MADDY (Picking up Squeaky to her shoulder):

Soon I'll forever be

BOTH (While Savy went to a side balcony, Maddy began to climb toward a hill)

FREE…!

I close my eyes and feel myself fly

A thousand miles away

I could take flight, but would it be right?

My conscience tells me stay…!

SAVY:

I'll remain forever royal

MADDY:

I will find my inner toon

BOTH:

Duty means to do the things your heart may well regret

SAVY:

But I'll never stop believing

MADDY:

I know that I'm not alone

BOTH:

There's more to living than

Worry about what is coming for me

In my dream

I'll be FREE…!
