Yu-Gi-Oh GX - The Cupid Duelist
Summary; Riley Kazumi was a bit of an oddball; sure he liked Duel Monsters like everyone else, but he was also a bit of a sport lover. Luckily for him, he managed to find a deck that could blend in both of the things he loves! Well, that, and his Duel Monsters were basically sport themed.

Author Note #1
In this story, I might do a Genderbend Jaden, or might not include her at all, if that is what people desire - or just having Male Jaden, if people want. Regarding the OC, I won't have him be untouchable when Dueling, because where is the fun in that? He will have his moments here and there, and he will lose - but not only to Zane / Fem Zane [Whatever is more popular]
Author Note #2
Synchro Summoning has been released to the public, however, the masses still haven't caught on to how powerful they can be under the right circumstances. A few people have, and they do have Synchro Monsters to spice up their Decks however they can. However, some flat out hate the Summoning Method, or have no way to slot it into their deck, so they won't use it.
Author Note #3
Now, why have I chosen 'Cupid' as the Deck for this OC? An Archtype that only has 5 Monster Cards [With 1 Synchro], and no Spell/Trap Support? Because why not? When have you ever seen Cupid Monsters in a fic, or in real life actually?
So, you guys do have some say in this fic as we go along, and that can be the creation of more 'Cupid' cards, whether they be Spell/Trap cards, Monsters [Effect or Effect/Tuner], along with Fusion or Synchro. Try to keep them fair with the effects, attack and defense points and stuff, and not having every single new card being ridiculously overpowered. I wouldn't mind people thinking of a Boss Monster for the Archtype though [Because I doubt Cupid Pitch, a Lv4 Synchro would be the Boss Monster]
If you could, try and give a description of the Monsters/Spells/Traps. From what there is already, it seems to be a Female Archtype, cause all of the Monsters are Female.
And remember, the Cupid Archtype has a theme; and that is Sport. Cupid Pitch [Softball], Cupid Fore [Golf], Cupid Dunk [Basketball], Cupid Volley [Volleyball] and Cupid Serve [Tennis], so try to keep the same kinda theme running.
Chapter 1 - The Entrance Exam
At times, one simply had to take a small breather in life. Perhaps talk a small walk - or perhaps a jog - in the park and just be enveloped by the greatness of what nature could provide. Feeling the sun's gentle heat envelop one's body, along with feeling the gentle, subtle breeze upon your skin, tousling your hair and cooling you off at the same time where just some things that you just couldn't live without.
Oh, and of course, taking a few moments out of your day and just take in a deep breath of the fresh air, untainted with mass pollution often found in larger cities or more confined spaces was also a great deal.
For Riley Kazumi, that was exactly what he was doing right now. Just relaxing on a park bench in the middle of a beautiful kept public park, his head tilted back and facing towards the canopies of the many trees within the park itself, and as he enjoyed the sun's rays upon his body, he took a deep breath in through his nose, held it for a few seconds, before exhaling gently through his mouth.
Opening his eyes, revealing them to be a rather startling shade of blue, he couldn't help but grin as his body just felt lighter as all of his nerves and stress left his body about the upcoming Dueling Exam that would determine if he was good enough to be accepted into Duel Academy, or determine if he would have to either wait until the exams next year, or take his chances with a much more risky route of going to Duel Monsters Community College.
Brining a hand up, he gently pushed some of his vibrant red hair out of his eyeline, and smoothing it all down once more, where it fell to just below his ears.
Sighing softly to himself, he looked down between his legs and saw his trust backpack gently resting against his legs. Reaching down he quickly unzipped the bag, and reached in, easily moving past the rather clunky, standard Duel Disk stuffed within before his hand clasped around his deck box.
Effortlessly pulling out said deck box from his bag, he brought it closer to his chest as he unclasped the rudimentary locking mechanism causing the lid to open, before reaching in and pulling out his deck, making sure to leave the cards seperated by a greenish-blue divider to remain inside the hard plastic box.
Humming softly to himself, he carefully eyed each and every card contained within his deck, and each time he passed over his Monster cards, he couldn't help but smile.
The 'Cupid' cards. An interesting set of cards, and while most weren't that powerful in terms of Attack nor Defense points, they did have very interesting card effects that made up for it. Some of those effects that they had could easily turn to tables in his favor if he played them right. Plus, they were one of the only Archtypes released recently that had both Fusion, and the recently announced Synchro monsters.
Shaking his head, he noticed that he made his way through his deck, and was now staring at the five cards he would've drawn had it been a duel, and he couldn't help but grimace lightly as he saw just how badly he would've bricked in his opening hand. Luckily all Duel Disks had an auto-shuffle feature as soon as the deck was slotted in the holding port.
Placing his main deck back into his deckbox, he closed it up, and replaced the locking mecahnism down so that no cards would slip out, and thus, possibly ruin his deck.
"Master..."
Blinking a few times as he heard that voice, he looked over his shoulder, and he couldn't help but grin softly as he noticed a Duel Spirit standing right beside the bench next to him.
Yes, knowing that he was able to not only see Duel Spirits that were strong enough, but also able to communicate with them was quite... shocking to say the least, but it was something that made him excited to learn, because he wanted to know if he eventually could see others, or perhaps have more Duel Spirits with him that he didn't even know about, or perhaps wasn't 'ready' to see yet.
Shaking his head from those particular thoughts, he gazed back towards the Duel Spirit, looking at him with a semi-concerned look shining within her blue eyes.
The spirit in question stood roughly 5'3 - a few inches shorter than he was - and, whilst her entire body was semi-transparent, he was still able to see her pale skin, her light purple colored hair which fell to her shoulders, and had a cute red flower nestled within the tresses. She was wearing a simple white sleeveless polo top, and wore a red skirt that fell just past her upper thighs, which was held up by a rather thick brown belt with silver straps, to finish off her attire, she was wearing knee length plaid socks, along with simple white sneakers.
It was Cupid Fore, one of his better cards in his deck, and perhaps one that he was most fond of, as she was one of his earliest cards that he can remember ever having.
"Donna..." Riley muttered, a slight accent to his voice as he regarded his Duel Spirit by name, "How many times must I tell you to not call me that? Just call me Riley... or any other nickname other than 'Master', please." He added on, exasperated.
Donna giggled slightly, her dainty hand covering her mouth, "I know~" She sang out teasingly, "It's always funny seeing your reaction."
Rolling his eyes at his Duel Spirit, he couldn't help but have a small chuckle along with her that lasted for a good few seconds. Ah, it always felt good after having a small laugh, no matter how short it might be, "Anyways, what did you want me for?" He questioned softly, keeping his voice low just in case a random passerbye walked by.
He didn't want others to think he was a loon speaking to himself.
"The others and I just wanted to know when the exam is." She said hinting at other Duel Spirits being around like she always did, "To make sure you don't lose yourself in your thoughts, too."
Humming softly, Riley pulled out his sliding phone and turned it on, "It's currently 8:18am." He said, turning off his phone, and putting it back in his jacket, "They close at 10am, so still got plenty of time."
Nodding her head, Donna soon disappeared from his view, the tiniest trail of light slowly receeding back through his slightly opened zipper and into his bag, where it was most likely heading back into her own card in his deck box.
Sitting on the bench for a few moments longer, a sudden bout of nervous excitement overcame his system, causing his heart to start pumping just a little bit faster, and caused adrenaline to course through his body. Quickly standing up from the bench, he leaned down and grabbed hold of his worn backpack and quickly placed both straps over his shoulders, "Well, might as well get the venue now."
With that being said, Riley jumped on the spot for a few moments to get his muscles ready, before he set off further into the park in a rythmic jog. It shouldn't take him that long to get to venue from here, perhaps about ten or so minutes; barring any accidents or stops.
"Man!" Riley panted out, his hands on his head as he gently twisted his body left and right with every step he took to help regulate breathing, "That hill was killer..." He murmured, before tilting his head back and taking another deep breath through his nose and exhaling heavily.
He knew that taking on that hill in a more powerful jog might've been a bad idea, but even with his higher standard of fitness than others, it still nearly killed him three quarters of the way up.
Glancing back, he couldn't help but shake his head, "Man, I feel sorry for people running late..." He muttered out, already feeling sympathetic for those that had to sprint up that slope to arrive on time. If that didn't take it out of them, then surely the aftermath of the duel of your career would.
Shaking his head from those thoughts, he reached around with his hand and grabbed a half-filled water bottle from the little side pocket of his backpack, unscrewed the cap before putting to his lips and taking some greedy sips, mentally sighing as the slight burn in his throat disappeared as more and more water went down his gullet. After a few more seconds of taking in that precious water, he brought it away from his mouth and screwed on the cap, noticing how he only had about a quarter of it left, so he needed to fill it up when he could at the next best conveniance, before putting it back in the little mesh pocket and tapping it a few times.
Clearing his throat, he looked around for a few moments, before making a small noise of happiness as he noticed that there was a small folding table set-up just a few feet away from the entrance, with two older looking women sitting down on folding chairs, holding cups of coffee or hot chocolate in hand, with a rather stern, intimdating looking man in a business suit and dark shades standing a few feet away from them.
Making his way over towards them, it didn't take too long for the man to spot him before he spoke towards the two women, because instantly they stopped what they were doing, and watched him approach their table.
"Welcome~" One sang out, being rather frightfully happy so early in the morning as she regarded him.
"Welcome." The other one spoke out, much more sedate than her counterpart.
"Good morning ladies, and gentleman." Riley greeted, flashing a small grin towards the two women and the stern looking man, who only grunted in response to his greeting, "Fine morning we have today."
"That it is!" The first woman spoke out with a grin, twirling a strand of her mousey brown hair around her fingertip.
"Oh lord, there is two of them." The sedate, tired woman spoke out, groaning under her breath and palming her face in annoyance. Obviously, she wasn't a morning person.
Chuckling slightly, he looked at the paperwork before them, and saw in extremly small font, what seemed to be dozens upon dozens of names of potential applicants that would be showing up this morning, "My name is Riley Kazumi, and I'm here for the Duel Exams. I should be applicant #38."
Humming softly, the girls nodded their head as they both looked down and their eyes narrowed as they started scanning each piece of paperwork, before flipping over the sheet to where more surnames that begun with 'K' began. A few moments later, the more sedate, tired woman nodded her head, grabbed her pen and crossed out his name, "Right." She said, "Please head inside, and wait for your name to be called over the intercom."
Nodding his head, he flashed the women another grin and gave a playful mock salute, "I will!" He said, before chuckling once more as he made his way towards the entrance of the Kaiba Dome, "Have a good day!" He called back.
"Good luck!" The mousey-brown haired woman called out after him.
Stepping inside the Kaiba Dome, his eyes widened slightly as the chilly air greeted his body. However, the brief shock of temperature difference between inside and outside only lasted a moment before his body regulated once again. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath in through his nose before humming slightly as he enjoyed just how clean and fresh the air felt in the building.
Opening his eyes once again, he looked around slightly, before he saw a hanging sign from the ceiling with a few scattered directions on it, '→ Male Bathroom' '← Female Bathroom' and '↑ Dueling Arenas'
Nodding his head at those directions from the sign, he continued walking straight a head, ignoring the small offshoots to either side of the hallway.
"They seemed interesting, Master."
Rolling his eyes as Donna's Duel Spirit appeared beside him, he glanced around, making sure that no one was actually around him before glancing at her, "It was just to liven their mornings up." Was his defense, "Plus, I saw rings on their fingers, meaning they are either engaged or married."
Donna simply nodded her head at that. Oh how she wished he could see the other Duel Spirits, they would have so much fun talking about their respective sports - which Riley happened to like all forms of sport! - plus they all would be able to tease him with various things, and having a two-on-one teasing session was much better! Sighing mutely to herself, she watched as Riley rounded the corner of one of the levels of the Kaiba Dome, before disappearing in a shower of pretty sparkles once again.
However, what she didn't see was a pair of eyes widening briefly as they tracked the sparkling light for a split second before it faded from view.
"What the?" The person muttered, "What was that?" They murmured once more, before shaking their head and continuing on their way towards the bathroom.
"Huh... a lot more people here than I expected." Riley muttered to himself as looked around the massive Kaiba Dome. There were at least a dozen or so others lingering around in the seats of the arena, all of them looking down watching the duels happen before their eyes. Some of them were looking more nervous than anything, so perhaps some of them hadn't even dueled yet. However, interestingly enough, on the second of and third tiers of the Dome, he could see people watching above, most of them already seemingly dressed in a Obelisk Blue uniform, or Ra Yellow uniform, 'Prep schoolers, perhaps.' He thought to himself with a small shrug.
Some people were wealthy enough to attend a Prep School for automatic acceptance into Duel Academy - or for the other three academies - and whilst he felt that it might've been unfair, considering that if they were rich then they had access to more cards than the public schoolers, or those that had managed to save enough of their savings to actually attempt to enter the Exams first go around.
Then, right behind all the exam fields, he noticed a small gathering of what seemed to be six or seven dueling proctors. However, what really caught his attention was the fact that one of those individuals looked... very different from the rest of them.
"What did you expect, Master?" Donna spoke out once more, appearing in a small, unseen flash of light. She had a rather bemused smirk on her face as she watched Riley's eyebrows twitch at the usage of her greeting.
"Well... I didn't expect to see so many people here this early-" He said, bringing out his sliding phone and turning it on, "-it's only 8:31am, and there are at least two dozen people here... the venue has only been open for twenty odd minutes now." He added on, pocketing his phone once more as he leaned up against the railing.
Donna simply giggled once more, before joining her Master and standing right beside him, "Are you excited for the upcoming duel?" She questioned softly.
A small smile graced Riley's face, and he simply nodded his head, "Of course I am." He said, "Nervous, but excited."
"You know... the others a pretty nervous themselves." She revealed to him, causing him to blink in surprise before glancing at her, "They have been pretty antsy all morning."
Riley simply made a small noise of surprise; he didn't think that Duel Spirits got nervous. Maybe it was their own nerves bubbling up, or perhaps the unseen Duel Spirits had bonded to him more than he realized, and were maybe 'sharing' his nervous excitement. He was about to continue talking to his Duel Spirit, however out of the corner of his eye, he noticed someone approaching him, "I'll talk to you later." He murmured, "Tell the others that they shouldn't be worried, everything will go all right, I have my utmost faith in you guys."
"We know, Master." Was all that Donna said before her form disappeared once more, leaving Riley alone once more.
Exhaling softly, he looked to his right, and noticed that the person that caused the conversation between himself and his Duel Spirit to stop suddenly was walking past him, and even from here, he could smell a faint, lingering aroma of some perfume, "Good morning!" He greeted the girl.
Blinking a few times, the girl stopped walking before glancing over towards him. She looked at him oddly for a moment before nodding her head, "Morning?" She murmured, her voice layered with a hint of confusion.
Seeing the rather awkward moment blossoming between the two of them, he cleared his throat before continuing, either trying to help the conversation go along, or perhaps end it on a more positive, and less awkward note, "Brilliant morning, yeah?" He asked her, looking up and seeing the sun gently poking through the sunroof.
"I... guess?" The girl answered, fiddling slightly with her blue blazer jacket, "Well..."
Sighing softly to himself as the conversation didn't exactly sparkle, "Yeah..." He cleared his throat, before sending a smile her way, "Well, I hope you have a pleasant rest of the day."
The girl simply nodded her head before walking off once more, making her way towards the staircase that lead to the upper tiers of the Kaiba Dome. Although she did send one more confused wayward glance in his direction before continuing on his journey.
Once the girl was gone, and out of earshot, Riley sighed, before he rubbed the nape of his neck, "Well... that was awkward."
Suddenly, he heard giggling coming to the left of him, and the small flush on his face only blossomed even deeper before Donna made herself known again, "That was pretty awkward, Master." She said through her giggles, her eyes glinting with amusement, "Cute, but really awkward."
"Har-har..."
Rolling her eyes, Donna hummed to herself as she made her way behind him, before reaching up and grabbing Riley's shoulders. And he swore that he could actually feel her hands on his body, before he was suddenly forced down onto one of the empty seats behind him, and soon enough, Donna smoothed out her skirt, before taking a seat next to him, "How about we just watch some sport instead, Master?" She offered, "It'll probably be better than making another awkward conversation."
He didn't reply for a moment, however, he gave a small sigh as he nodded his head, "Yeah... that might be for the best..." He murmured in agreement, before fishing out his sliding phone once again, pushing it up so the little keypad slide out, before finally connecting to the wi-fi after nearly an entire minute of waiting before getting to his browser, "Hmm... what to watch..." He murmured.
"How about basketball, Master?" Donna offered her opinion with a coy smile, "Dunk would be more than pleased to know that you watched 'her' sport."
By Dunk, he was fairly certain that she meant Cupid Dunk, whose card literally displayed her in a modified basketball uniform - which had a cape for some reason - with a basketball in hand. He was also intrigued to know that Donna refered to her by her card name, and not her 'proper' name. So he guessed that he had to learn the names of his Duel Spirits themselves, whenever they decided to show themselves to him.
"Sure, it's only fair." He murmured to himself, before typing in the JBL to get the highlights of the latest basketball matches in the Japanese League, "After all, you did make me watch through an entire day of golf recently..."
Donna simply giggled as she leaned over to watch the highlight package of the recent games on Riley's phone, "It was fun though, you have to admit~"
Rolling his eyes at her blatant bias towards her own sport, Riley and Donna simply watched the highlight package in comfortable silence, at least until his name was called for his Dueling Exam to begin.
With his eyes still glued to the screen, Riley Kazumi didn't know how much time had truly passed since he started watching the recent basketball highlights from the national league. He was barely even aware of the fact that slowly but surely, a few more people had been filtering through into the Kaiba Dome to get ready for their examinations. He had also noticed a subtle increase of noise within the stadium as more people filtered in, but as more and more duels started to commence too.
Suddenly, just as the recent highlight package was over, the intercom system buzzed to life; "Riley Kazumi, please make your way to Field 4." It was a male voice speaking, "I repeat, Riley Kazumi to Field 4."
"Well, finally my turn." Riley murmured to himself, his heart suddenly beating just a twinge faster as adrenaline started to course through his body. Turning off his phone, he slid it into his pocket, before reaching down for his backpack and pulled out his standard duel disk, and pulled out his deck from his deck box - man, he really needed a modified belt to slot it in instead - before pushing his main deck into the main deck holder, and watched as the duel disk automatically shuffed his deck around. Then, pulling out a small handful of Extra Deck cards, he slotted them in on the card holder on the opposite side of the machine.
"Good luck, Master!" Donna called out before disappearing from view.
Nodding his head at that, Riley took a deep breath to calm his nerves before he gained a determined look as he made his way over towards the back wall and went to the small platform system that had a large number '4' plaqued above it.
Stepping onto the platform, he waited for when it inevitably took him down to the corresponding field.
Rising up from the ground, Riley stepped off the platform, and his first step felt like his legs became jell-o for a split second, "Man, that felt weird." He muttered to himself, glancing back and seeing the platform sink back into the ground, leaving no trace that it was even there to begin with, "Who knew that technology could evolve so quickly..."
Shaking his head, Riley looked on the other side of the arena, he noticed a rather stern looking man, wearing what seemed to be a heavily modified Obelisk Blue uniform that looked akin to a trench coat, with the collar of it reaching up all the way to his chin, where a neatly trimmed black beard could be seen, most of his face was obscured by a pair of commically large sunglasses, and even his black hair seemed to long, swooped, and even spiked down just above his eyeline.
'So, this is my Dueling Proctor...' Riley thought to himself.
"Welcome, Mr. Kazumi." The Proctor greeted tersley, his duel disk already on and glowing faintly, "This test will determine if you are good enough to enter Duel Academy."
Nodding his head, Riley pressed a small button on his duel disk as it hummed to life, before the 'wings' of it spread out, allowing him to utilise his Monster Card zone, and the little holes underneath raised slightly, allowing usage of his Spell and Trap zone.
[Dueling Proctor - 4000 / Riley Kazumi - 4000]
"As it customary, Dueling Proctors have the first move." He said, before he drew five cards from his deck - and Riley did the same - before drawing another one, signifying his draw phase. He looked over his cards for a moment before saying, "I set one card facedown, and I place another card facedown." As he said that, two large cards appeared in front of him via the holographic technology, "I end my turn."
"I draw." Riley muttered, before looking at his drawn card; Reinforcements. Humming slightly at that, he brought his drawn card to his hand, before looking at his hand for the first time.
[Cupid Dunk, Lightning Vortex, Negate Attack, Monster Reborn, Honest, Reinforcements]
"Not the greatest, but not the worst." Riley muttered, "I place two cards facedown-" Two cards appeared just before Riley before fading away slightly, "Then, I'll normal summon Cupid Dunk in attack mode!" He declared, before placing Cupid Dunk onto his Monster Zone.
In a flash, a rather tall, athletic girl wearing a modified basketball uniform appeared, whose long red hair seemingly fluttered in the non-existent wind, her cape gently billowing behind her and her bow that was slung around her shoulder moved faintly. As she gazed at her opponent, she bounced the basketball down on the ground, causing it to echo around the arena slightly, "Finally, Master." She spoke out, only heard to him, "It's been such a pain being confined to that card..."
"Sorry, Dunk." Riley murmured apologetically.
(Cupid Dunk - LV/****, Attribute/LIGHT, ATK/1800, DEF/600, Type/Fairy/Effect. Cannot be destroyed by battle with a monster, unless that monster has a higher Level. Once per turn, during your Standby Phase: You can increase this card's Level by 1.)
"Battle!" Riley declared, with perhaps a bit too much enthusiasm, "Cupid Dunk will attack into your facedown!"
Hearing that command, Dunk nodded her head. In a flash she had brought up her glittering bow with one hand and loaded up an arrow, before she grinned wildly and stuck the basketball onto the arrowtip. Closing one eye, she took aim, before firing off into the direction of the face-down monster card.
"That was a mistake, boy." The Proctor declared, before the facedown monster revealed itself to be Big Shield Gardna; an absolute defensive wall of a tanned monster that was mostly hidden behind a massive shield that seemed bigger than the monster itself.
(Big Shield Gardna - LV/****, Attribute/EARTH, ATK/100, DEF/2600, Type/Warrior/Effect. During either player's turn, when this face-down card (and no other cards) is targeted by a Spell Card: Change this card to face-up Defense Position, and if you do, negate the Spell Card's activation. If this card is attacked, change it to Attack Position at the end of the Damage Step.)
As soon as the basketball connected with Big Shield Gardna, all that Riley could see was a hint of a grin on the tanned Warrior's face, and with a small grunt he pushed his shield forward, causing the basketball to launch back towards Riley.
Gritting his teeth, Riley could only watch as the basketball came flying back towards him, and within moments it shot into his gut, causing him to feel phantom pain as it connected right into his gut.
"Sorry, Master!" Cupid Dunk cried out, her eyes tearing up slightly as she mentally berated herself for getting her Master hurt.
"It's alright..." Riley murmured, taking a deep breath. Then, he heard the noise of his Life Points depleting, and looked at the small screen.
[Dueling Proctor - 4000 / Riley Kazumi - 3200]
"I end my turn." Riley announced. Sure, he could've activated Lightning Vortex, but he wanted to wait until another monster joined it, otherwise it would be simple trade, nothing too good about that.
As soon as Riley ended his turn, the Big Shield Gardna suddenly stood up from behind his shield, signifying its change into Attack mode due to its own effect.
"My move then." The Proctor announced, drawing a card from his deck.
[Proctor's Hand - 5]
"I summon Gemini Elf in attack mode!" The Proctor announced, placing a card down onto the field.
In a flash, a pair of rather petite and diminuitive looking monsters popped up onto the field, their eyes hardened from many battles, and both of them looking ready to pounce at him and his monster at any moment.
(Gemini Elf - LV/****, Attribute/EARTH, ATK/1900, DEF/900, Type/Spellcaster/Normal. Elf twins that alternate their attacks.)
"I will also switch Big Shield Gardna back to defense mode!" He called, before he rotated the card on the field, causing Big Shield Gardna to grin wildly as he knelt down behind his shield.
"Gemini Elf, attack Cupid Dunk!" The Proctor called out, throwing his hand forward. With a shrill cry that seemed to send small shockwaves through the air, and the Gemini Elf began rushing towards Cupid Dunk, who looked resigned at the incoming battle, but still would fight until the end as she readied up her bow once more, "At this moment, I play the Quick-Play Spell, Rush Recklessly!"
The monster was suddenly encassed with a heavy glow, and their muscles seemed to buff up slightly as their Attack points were raised.
(Gemini Elf, ATK/1900 → 2600)
"This time it's your mistake, Proctor!" Riley announced, causing the Proctor to grunt in annoyance, having forgotten about the fact he had two face-down spell and or trap cards, "I activate Negate Attack!"
As soon as Riley's card flipped up, the Gemini Elf was stopped on the spot, and even despite all the frantic struggling it did to try and free itself from the grip of the Trap card, it was simply unable to, before it was suddenly forced back into its original position.
"Clever move, applicant." The Proctor said, "I can do nothing but end my turn." He announced.
(Gemini Elf, ATK/2600 → 1900)
"I draw!" He announced, before looking at the card he drew; Cupid Fore. Grinning happily at what he drew, he quickly double checked to see if the Proctor had placed any backrow, but upon seeing he didn't, he gave a cry of delight, "Sorry Proctor, but you are going down this turn!"
[Riley's Hand - 4]
"What!?" The Proctor exclaimed in shock.
"First up, I play Lightning Vortex-" Riley revealed, playing it in the Spell and Trap zone, and the card showed itself in all of its glory, "By discarding one card, I can destroy all face-up monsters you control!"
"Oh no!" The Proctor cried out, looking at his hand desperately to see if he could do anything, but he couldn't. So he was totally helpless. Seeing Riley discard a card to the graveyard, he could only look in as a dark, heavy cloud suddenly appeared over both his Gemini Elf, and his Big Shield Gardna. Then, with a massive crackle of energy and a distant rumble, two massive bolts of lightning struck down both of his cards, causing them to cry out in shock before they exploded into particles, and all that he could do was send both cards to the graveyard.
"So you got rid of both of my monsters, but I still have enough Life Points to survive this turn." He declared, trying his best to throw off the applicant off his game.
"I'm afraid not, Proctor." Riley said, "I summon Cupid Fore in attack mode!"
In a bright flash, Riley's Duel Spirit appeared on the field, not looking much different than her spirit form; the only true difference was how battle hardened her eyes looked and the fact that she too, now had a bow that was locked and loaded with a golf ball that was sized like a hailstone, and behind her, a much smaller female wearing a pink overcoat stood behind her, cheering her on with a bag slung over her shoulders full of arrowheads.
"Hello again, Master~" Fore - or Donna - called out, before looking over to her right and spotting Dunk, "Hiya Dunk~"
(Cupid Fore - LV/******, Attribute/LIGHT, ATK/2200, DEF/600, Type/Fairy/Effect. If all monsters you control are monsters with 600 DEF (min. 1): You can Special Summon this card from your hand. (Quick Effect): You can discard 1 card, then target 1 LIGHT Fairy monster you control and 1 face-up monster on the field; the level of your monster becomes the other monster's Level, until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Cupid Fore" once per turn.
"Hold on a second." The Proctor called out, "How did you summon a Level 6 monster without a tribute?" He inquired, his eyes narrowing behind his glasses - not that anyone could actually see them.
"It's the effect of Cupid Fore-" Riley declared, and he couldn't help but grin as he saw Donna wave at the Proctor who blinked upon seeing that. That was odd, "If all monsters I control have 600 Defense points - like Dunk has - I can Special Summon her from my hand!"
A bead of sweat started to drip from the Proctor's eyebrow as he looked at the monsters facing him, and suddenly gulped as he looked at their attack points. It was enough to wipe out all of his lifepoints in one fell swoop.
"So, Dunk attack him directly!" Riley called out.
Cupid Dunk nodded her head, before she grinned once more as she plastered another basketball onto her arrow head. She closed one eye as she pulled back her bowstring, before taking a momentary pause, before releasing her hold on the string.
Instantly, the basketball shot forward with great speed, before crashing into the Proctor's gut with enough power to cause him to skid back a few inches as he gasped from breath from the phantom pain.
[Dueling Proctor - 2200 / Riley Kazumi - 3200]
"Fore, attack him for game!"
"With pleasure~" Donna cheered before she raised her bow up to her cheek, the hailstone sized golf ball glinting ominously, before she took a deep exhale, and pulled back the sting to her bow as she as she could. Then, a moments pause as she teased the Proctor with a slight prolongment, before releasing her hold on the string, causing the modified arrow to rocket towards her opponent.
The Proctor didn't even have time to flinch as the modified golf ball arrow slammed into his chest, pushing him back once more, and he winced and rubbed his chest from the phantom blow. Then, he heard the sound of his Life Points dropping even more.
[Dueling Proctor - 0 / Riley Kazumi - 3200]
Within moments, the field cleared as the holographic technology turned off to reboot and to recharge before the next duel. He barely had time to even look, and he swore that Cupid Fore waved at him once more with a teasing smile on her face before disappearing from view, causing him to shake his head at the oddity.
"I won..." Riley murmured, his heart thumping within his chest as excitement coursed through his body as he turned off his duel disk, "Woohoo! I won, Duel Academy, I'll see you soon!" He cheered out loudly, uncaring if he was making a small scene from the other viewers in the upper tiers; he was just too excited!
"Well done, Master." Donna spoke out fondly, but she too, was unable to help keep the smile off of her face as she watched her Master do a little happy dance, "You earnt it."
"Congratulations, young man." The Proctor spoke out, a small smile on his face as he held out his hand, "Welcome to Duel Academy." He said, "You will find out your dormitory once on the island." He said.
"Thank you!" Riley said, happily accepting his hand shake.
"Feel free to stay and watch the other duels, or if you want to head back into the city, feel free to do so." He said, before giving a stern look towards the young man, "You leave for Duel Academy at 3:30pm, don't be late." He added on, before releasing hold of Riley's hand before making his way back over towards his platform so he could return with the rest of the Proctors and Doctor Crowler to reshuffle and re-select another test deck.
For Riley, all he could was barely contain his excitement as he all but ran towards his little platform, eager to celebrate by having a small run around in the local park - and maybe spend some time looking for belts to hold his deck box in. And perhaps open a more packs from the local card shop to hopefully upgrade his deck some more.
END
Well, there you go; Chapter 1 of the new fic. I hope I did alright, I'm very, very new to actually writing YuGiOh, so I hope I did the actual Duel alright, and doing the entire Monster card / effect thing, if you want me to, I can also do that for Spells and Traps, if necessary.
I didn't go with the 'standard' of Doctor Crowler dueling because, well, it looks to be very overused, plus, our character wasn't late.
So, the Cupid cards are very interesting, and you can kinda see how they work combo wise with their effects. Feel free to make some OC cards up for their Archtype, whether they be Monsters, Extra Deck [Fusion/Synchro Only], Spells and Traps. And give a basic desc. of how they look too.
Pairing wise, I'll wait and see what you guys want, just gotta give a good / decent reasoning as to how they bond and such. I did leave two characters a 'Mystery' one of them saw the Duel Spirit, was the the other girl had that awkward conversation with Riley.
I'm down for Genderbends too, so Fem Jaden... Fem Syrus... Fem Chumley, Fem Zane, etc.
