Chapter Two

Alessia was already awake as the sun was coming up. She was full of energy already. Her stuff is already packed and ready to go. She had taken a shower and was wearing her new outfit that Su had picked out for her that day.
"Breakfast is ready." Pema's voice spoke in the hall outside of her door. Alessia smiled and headed out of her room. Seeing Korra in her usual water tribe get up.
"Wow. You look like an Earth citizen with water tribe hair." Korra laughed. Her sister sighed with annoyance.
"I'll learn, don't worry." Alessia spoke as they made their way down to the dining area. There were already others there eating. Taking her spot on the cushion while slowly eating the porridge. Not wanting to rush. Apparently Tenzin had other plans.
"Alright Korra and Alessia. I'll take you to the office to get your schedules and then you will be both taken to separate dorms. Unfortunately all the rooms were filled but two and based on different personalities, you'll both be paired with one other person as a roommate." He explained while leading the sisters out to the ferry.
"So, we aren't gonna share a room together?" Korra frowned.
"Well, you both have different personalities and the university is divided based on your element." He added.
"So, Alessia is going to be in the earth part of the university and you Korra will be part of the water." He also explained.
"Why is it divided?" Alessia was confused at this.
"Classes are together with others but when it comes to learning your bending abilities, you are separated. There are uniforms as well. Yours should be ready in your rooms." Tenzin spoke with confidence and smiled. "Plus, there are tournaments the university holds between each element. You can choose to join these extra activities or not is up to you." Alessia was listening and smiled. The university got even more exciting.

They had taken a cab to a rather large building in the center of the city. Korra and Alessia both followed Tenzin in silence. Looking around in the halls as many trophies lined the walls with art.
"Here we are." He finally spoke as they entered a room. "I'd like you both to meet Dean Raiko. He is in charge of the university." Tenzin spoke. Alessia bowed to the man as Korra shook his hand.
"Right, your housing representative should be here soon." Raiko spoke. They all nodded and left the room. Alessia was looking at her schedule before leaning against the wall.
"Hello! Are you Korra?" A man's voice came out.
"Hello, I am." Korra shook the man's hand.
"Right, if you follow me?" He asked. Tenzin looked at Alessia.
"I trust you will be alright?" He asked as Alessia nodded her head. It had been several moments before a voice spoke to her.
"Alessia?" It was Su's voice.
"Hello!" Alessia bowed with a smile. Looking at the woman she ran into yesterday.
"Ah, good to see you. Come follow me!" Su spoke before leading the way to another building. "I really hope you enjoy it here. May I see your schedule?" Su asked as Alessia handed her the paper. "I see. You have a few of my classes. I'm looking forward to it!" The woman in green spoke as they entered a smaller building. "This is the earth nation ward." Su explained. Alessia could see students walking around and some running. Trying to get to class. They were wearing green and black uniforms. Some had gold on them. "The uniforms are all mainly the same. A few differences depending on which area you were born in." Su explained as Alessia had a questioning look.
"What if I don't know which area I am from?" She asked.
"Well, then you are wearing just the regular uniforms. Don't worry dear, I can find out for you." Su gently touched Alessia's shoulder. She smiled at the older woman. "Ah, here we are. This is your room." Su knocked on the door. A woman about Alessia's age had opened the door. Fern green eyes and raven hair. She has a beauty mark under her right eye. The woman stepped aside as Su and Alessia stepped inside.
This is your new roommate. Alessia. I hope you make her feel welcomed. Alessia. It was good to see you again. Entrance exam is at five pm sharp. Don't be late, okay? Also, love the outfit!" Su smiled before leaving. Alessia beamed at Su before turning her attention to the other woman.
"I'm Kuvira. From Zaofu." The green eyed woman held out her hand. Alessia took it and shook it.
"I'm Alessia, of course. No idea which nation though." She spoke while setting her bag down on the empty bed.
"You bend earth, what's your sub element?" Kuvira asked while sitting in her chair at her desk on the other side of the room.
"I actually don't know. You see, I grew up in the South. Not much to bend there." Alessia frowned.
"Try this." Kuvira walked up to Alessia. Holding a small black stone. "It's a meteorite. Easiest metal to bend. I hope you're one because metal benders are now disappearing. Well, the ability." The taller woman spoke. Alessia took the meteorite into her hand and covered it with the other. "Try finding the earth in the metal." Kuvira explained. Alessia closed her eyes and focused. Feeling the meteorite in her hand move. Making a rather blob-like shape. "Yes! You are a metal bender! We are gonna get along just fine." Kuvira spoke as Alessia handed it back to her.

"Hey Alessia. Come with me. I'll take you to the gym. You might want to change into something more comfortable" Kuvira said. Alessia nodded and grabbed her assigned gym clothes and went to change in their bathroom. It was a long dark green tank top and black spandex pants. Green gym shoes.
"How do they know our size already?" Alessia asked with a confused look. She saw Kuvira was wearing the same thing.
"Paperwork. I assume you had a guardian fill yours?" Kuvira asked as Alessia nodded. That was possible. "Come, I have dance practice and it's in the same gym." Kuvira explained.
"So, there are dancers." She spoke with a smile.
"Yeah, you dance?"
"I love dancing."
"You should watch after the entrance exam and see what you think. Maybe you'll want to join." Kuvira spoke as they exited their building.
"Alessia! Hi!" Korra's voice rang across the lawn.
"You know her?" Kuvira raised a brow as Korra ran up to them.
"I'm Korra. I'm"
"The avatar." Kuvira cut her off and looked at Alessia.
"We are sisters. This is Kuvira. My roommate." Alessia explained.
"Huh. Related but totally different. Come on you two." Kuvira spoke. "Now, they will have representatives for your element there. Korra, I think you will have one of each and Alessia will have earth." Kuvira explained while guiding the sisters into another building. It was a rather large gym. "It's only you two today. Last ones of the year. Anyways, just head up to that table where the professors are." She pointed. Alessia smiled in the direction.
"Korra, you are up first." Tenzin's voice spoke. Alessia gasped as she took a seat on the bleacher. It was Tenzin, Su, Katara, and a fire bender she didn't know.
"Water?" Katara asked. Korra easily bent the water from the bowl.
"Earth?" Su's voice asked as Korra did the same by moving the giant sized rock.
Fire?" The unknown man spoke. Watching her sister take a deep breath and shoot a couple punches with fire.
"Air is not yet learned." Tenzin spoke. "Though, she will continue her avatar training on learning the element." He added. "Thank you Korra, Alessia, please come up." Tenzin's voice spoke. She watched as the other professor's left except Katara. Only Su was left and she was smiling.
"Water?" Katara asked. Alessia gave the woman a confused look. "You do not bend water?" She asked as Alessia shook her head.
"If I remember correctly. You told me you grew up in a water tribe but you are an earth bender correct?" Su asked as Alessia nodded. "Alright, call my sister in." Su spoke as Katara nodded and left. It was several minutes later when Alessia heard metal footsteps coming up from behind.
"I see we have a last tester." It was the chief of police. Alessia felt her cheeks turn pink before shaking her head lightly.
"Earth?" Su asked again while smiling at Alessia. She stepped lightly and moved the earth boulder with ease.
"Sub element?" Lin's voice rang in her ears.
"Metal." Alessia spoke. Su seemed to be beaming at this as both of the professors came up to her.
"Bend these in the following shapes." Su spoke while handing Alessia a meteorite just like Kuvira showed her. "Star. Sphere. Spiked ball. Diamond. Last cube." Lin spoke. Her arms crossed. Alessia took a moment but managed each shape. It wasn't perfect but just enough to identify each shape.
"Looks like we got another metal bender Lin." Su smiled. "Thank you Alessia." Alessia smiled and bowed. Handing Su the meteorite back.

She found Kuvira smiling at her.
"What?" Alessia asked.
"Nothing. Just glad I won't be in the metal bending classes alone." Kuvira smiled while she was stretching.
"What do you mean?" She was confused.
"I've told you. Metal bending is getting more rare now." She spoke.
"Alright my dancers! Let's start from the top!" Su's voice rang. Alessia took a seat in the center of the bleachers. There were only five dancers. Kuvira smiled and waved at Alessia who waved back. "Come to watch dear?" Su asked as Alessia nodded her head lightly. "Hope we impress." The professor spoke while turning the music on. "Five, six, seven, eight! Let's go! From the top!" Su shouted. Alessia was watching in awe. The dancers were in sync. Moving to the beat. Alessia felt her heart swell while watching her new friend dance. She could see that Kuvira loved dancing. There was a look in her eye. She kept smiling and winking at Alessia who waved once before sitting her head on her hand while watching. She got lost in the dance while watching. Not knowing they had finished.
"Hey, you in there?" Kuvira asked as Alessia hopped up and nodded.
"You guys are amazing!" Alessia spoke softly.
"You should try out."
"I don't think I would have time to be honest."
"Why not?"
"I need to settle in first."
"Come on! You said you love to dance."
"Do we have another dancer?" Su's voice spoke as she came up to them.
"Alessia said she loves to dance." Kuvira smirked at Alessia.
"I..I do. I just. Well." Alessia sighed.
"Well, you should come try out. Auditions are in a few months. Gives you plenty of time to prepare." Su spoke. Alessia had noticed that Su's arm was around Kuvira's shoulder but she paid no attention to it.
"We should head back. It's getting late." Kuvira spoke. "Plus, I still need to show her around." The raven haired woman said.
"Always our top model prefect." Su smiled. She gave Kuvira a hug and then Alessia one. She was tense at the gentle hug but hugged her back. "See you in class on Monday Alessia." Su winked at them before leaving.
"Hum." Was all Alessia could say.
"What's up?"
"What's a prefect?"
"Oh, each ward has two. One is picked out at the start of the year, the second one is at the end of a few months. You got time." Kuvira spoke while pulling Alessia away by her arm. Deciding to link their arms as they headed to another building.
"I need a shower before bed." Alessia chuckled.
"Same. Come, I wanna introduce you to a few people." Kuvira spoke as they picked up a tray of food from the cafeteria. Arriving at a table full of people.
"Hey guys!" Korra's voice came. Alessia smiled at her sister and saw another girl with her.
"This is Asami. She goes here as well. She's my roommate" Korra said.
"Non bender?" Kuvira asked as Asami nodded her head.
"Yes. It's nice to meet you Alessia." Asami spoke softly.
"This is Kuvira my roommate." They shook hands before approaching a table.
"Now, this is Opal, Mako, Bolin, Wing, Wei, and Huan." Kuvira said while pointing to each person. Alessia's eyes widened. So many people!
"Hello Kuvira. Nice to see you." Bolin's voice spoke out. The girl Opal was leaning against him with a smile.
"Nice to meet you three!" She piped up.
"I'm heading back to my room." Kuvira spoke.
"I'll go with you." Alessia spoke. She wasn't ready to get into a social group just yet. "I'll see you guys around! She waved to the others as Korra took a seat and began chatting up a storm with them. They arrived back to the room and Alessia sighed and sat down.
"You alright?" Kuvira asked while taking a seat at her desk.
"Yeah, I'm drained." She began to eat. Realizing how hungry she was. She finished rather quickly.
"I see you are hungry." Her friend chuckled.
"Well, I mean if you are locked away in the south for most of your life and then thrown into society is very draining." Alessia smiled.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"No, don't be! I'm glad actually. It's all really new to me." Alessia sighed softly.
"Well, at least let me teach you the dance routine. You should at least do something you love." Kuvira spoke. Alessia nodded and laid down. She had finally noticed the posters and whatnot around Kuvira's side of the room.
"Zaofu." Her friend pointed to the poster of a large metal flower looking city. "Where I'm from."
"I wish I knew where I was born. I could actually understand myself better." Alessia spoke.
"Maybe Su can help you with that or maybe Tenzin." Kuvira suggested.
"Yeah."
"Oh, don't forget, you need to read the handbook and sign it. To show you read the rules for the university." Kuvira tossed a book at Alessia who caught it.
"Will do prefect!" She teased her friend who threw a pillow at her. "Hey!" She laughed while tossing it back.
"You have all weekend to read it. I in the meantime will be working on my homework. Since we have a lot of the same classes, you can use my books for now so you can catch up on the homework. There isn't much but it'll show them you mean business." Kuvira spoke as Alessia nodded. Yes, that is something she will do. Falling behind is something she hated. Even when she was little. "Here, for literature with Professor Beifong, you just need to read the first five chapters." Kuvira handed her the book. "I'll take you tomorrow to get your books. For now, you can use mine." Alessia nodded with a smile and began to read.
