Returning to her office after finishing up an interview, Gillian sat at her desk. With an inhale, she closed her eyes, exhaling deeply and closing her eyes. Doing her best to calm her nerves, she turned her chair around and looked out her window at the sunset. A rich, warm orange glow overtook the city, complementing the turning leaves of the autumn trees.

Raising her left leg up, she rested her heel on the edge of her chair as she hugged her knee, letting her chin rest against it. She closed her eyes tightly.

You need to calm yourself; just breathe. Inhale exhale. Inhale exhale. Look at the trees. Look at the leaves falling.

Opening her eyes, she watched the leaves fall from the trees below. Her heart rate slowly returning to its normal pace after several minutes.

A loud knock at the door drew her attention as she turned her head, watching as the door swung up.

Cal barged into her office with a look of frustration and annoyance clear as day on his features. Standing silently in front of her placing his hands on his hips he waited for her to look at him

Turning her chair around, she lowered her leg as she bit her lips back in anticipation. Looking down at her desk, she inhaled deeply.

He looks furious with me. I can't blame him; I shouldn't have said what I said in that interview.

Looking up from her desk, she locked eyes with him, seeing the frustration and anger gone. Not a trace of it was left on his face, replaced by compassion and deep love. With a nod, he turned around as quickly as he entered and left her office in silence.

The hell? Not the reaction i expected from him. At least we are past the point of him threatening our partnership anymore. Him admitting his feelings for me really explained a lot of his rather conflicting behavior. Caring one minute, rude asshole the next. Thank God he finally said how he felt, I have expected it for some time but he needed to say it. He needed to say it before he finally did something to push me away for good. Love makes you do stupid things…well makes him do rather stupid careless things. I do love him. But even with us newly dating… no yelling? No screaming? Very un-Cal Lightman-like.

Turning back around in her chair, she tucked both heels up on the edge of her chair. Folding her arms over her legs, holding them tight around herself, she looked out the window.

I don't know why I couldn't just silence my thoughts. We were hired to work on a case, not for me to go off on an interviewee. It was unprofessional; I don't know what came over me. Keith is just another lying politician—not the first one we have had, nor the last. Hes definitely not the first cheater we have had either. But to cheat on your wife while you are trying to have a baby and while she has been going through IVF for two years straight. It's gut wrenching, and now she finds out her husband is cheating ontop of the hardships of that? I just couldn't keep my feelings to myself. And now we are going to lose this client because of what I said.

The orange glow outside was replaced by a sweep of darkness that washed over the city as the sun passed the skyline. Hearing her office door open again, Gillian did not turn around as soft foot steps approached. Continuing to look out the window, she heard a rustle as Cal sat on top of her desk, looking out the window with her.

His hand came into view as he handed her a hot cup of tea. Smiling softly, she took it from his hand, looking out the window as he grabbed his own cup from her desk and took a sip.

"I expected you to berate me… not make me a cup of tea, Cal." She looked up at him, taking a sip of the hot liquid.

"Now why would I do that, luv?" He smiled, shrugging his shoulders.

"Oh, I don't know… I'm pretty sure I just cost us a client." She huffed, placing her heels back on the ground.

"There's a first time for everything… usually me that pisses off people though." He smiled widely, causing her to smile in return. Shaking her head, she took another sip of her tea, looking out the window again.

"And you didn't cost us a client, by the way… so you can stop beating yourself up."

Looking back at him, she gave him a confused expression.

"Harold, Keith's boss, who hired us, was far more interested in the fact that he was selling government information-"

"He was selling government intel?" Gillian asked in shock as her eye brows knitted together.

"That he was. After you left the interview, I decided to ask a few more questions. It sounds like he's been selling Intel longer than he's been cheating actually. Bloody bastard."

"I didn't even… I knew he was lying, but I thought his infidelity was all he was hiding; I didn't see it." She shook her head again, raising her nails to her lips and starting to bite them.

Sitting his cup of tea down on the desk, Cal took her hand from her mouth. Holding it and bringing it to his lips, he kissed her knuckles gently before holding her hand.

"We all miss things, darling; I don't blame you for being distracted and not seeing it."

Looking away, she blinked rapidly, thinking about the interview.

Distracted? But I wasn't distracted. The man's awful, but that has never stopped me from seeing something.

"His wife trying to get pregnant… IVF for over a year." He said hesitantly with a soft voice watching her.

"We have had other clients in the past-"

"Yes, we have, but not during this time of year… As I remember, when you and I started our partnership, you and Alec stopped trying around a year later around this time of year.

"Oh my god, I didn't even correlate it." Closing her eyes, she hung her head back in her chair.

Squeezing her hand, she opened her eyes to look at him.

"I know I'm not a phycologist, but I do know some times during the year, some dates… can bring unforseen feelings."

"an anniversary reaction." She said it sadly with a nod.

"yeah that." He snapped his fingers and smiled softly, causing her to chuckle lightly.

"I know you didn't want me reading you back then, but I couldn't help it…I could see how hard it was on you and how much you were suffering. How little your bastard of an ex-husband would do or say to help while you were heartbroken. Dealing with it on your own. That kind of pain isn't something you ever really forget."

I didn't even think about any of that. We tried for so long, but nothing worked; nothing would take. We finally gave up in mid-October, and I'm pretty sure I cried every night until the new year. Of course Cal saw it; he sees everything, even if I don't realize it.

Standing up from her chair, she stood in front of him. Putting her hands on his cheeks, she kissed him softly before backing away. Causing a soft smile to creep onto his features.

"Thank you, Cal."

"What for love?" He raised a brow, his smile still remaining from the kiss.

"For seeing everything…even when I don't." She smiled at him, full of love and adoration.

Jumping down from the desk, he placed his arm around her waist, pulling her tightly as they walked out of her office, turning off the lights.

"Tell you what, darling, how bout you come over tonight… and every night after?" he smiled.

"Cal-" she laughed as he squeezed her even tighter to him as they continued walking down the hallway to the elevator.

"Or just tonight! I make you dina…I'm thinking souvlaki… and I will do everything in my power to create better memories with you to look back on during this season." He gave her a cocky grin with an added wink before pressing the elevator call button.

"Oh really, now what kind of memories are you thinking of creating?" She smirked as she stepped into the elevator with him.

"Oh, I have loads of ideas; it might just become your new favorite time of year." He grinned wickedly, causing her to smile even wider, looking at the ground shyly as the doors closed.
