Disclaimer: i don't own Harry Potter that distinct honor belongs to J.K Rowling.
Adrian Wells pov
The sorting ceremony was thus far underwhelming, watching people put on a hat that arbitrarily judged you wasn't exactly entertaining. Though the hat as a concept was interesting, I couldn't help but wonder how it judged people, what rubric did it use? The blond who apparently was named Draco Malfoy went into Slytherin despite the hat barely touching him and the Black haired green eyes boy who apparently was thee Harry Potter went to Gryffindor after what was at least five minutes the longest sorting so far.
"Adrian Wells." Professor McGonagall called out.
Walking up the stool I felt some people staring, sitting and allowing the hat to be placed on my head.
{ " Well, well, well." A voice echoed through my head. " What do we have here?"}
{ " A hat that can read minds, I'm guessing."} I thought cutting the hat off. { " Mildly disappointing that the sortings are nothing but a snap shot of a person rather than a prediction. I was rather hoping you could see the future" }
{ " Who says it can't be both? " } The hat said amusement clear in its mental voice. { " No you weren't not really. I've seen your memories always trying to seek answers, not for knowledge sake but rather for the sake of your ego. After all it's easy to detach yourself from a world you've already figured out." }
{ " Profound but ultimately irrelevant." } I said annoyed. { "Now which house do I end up in? I'm curious about your process." }
{ " Very well, while you crave knowledge it isn't for knowledge sake so Ravenclaw is out despite your cleverness. Beyond entertaining yourself you don't have any real ambition so Slytherin is out. You've never had a reason to be Loyal so Hufflepuff isn't an option despite the fact that you are perfectly willing to work hard." } The hat paused a moment before continuing. { " You're not particularly brave merely uncaring nor are you chivalrous so while normally that would disqualify you from Gryffindor, there isn't a perfect fit for you. Do you have any preferences? " }
So the hat sorts on preferences if an abundance of a specific quality isn't displayed in that case the most interesting people in Hogwarts are probably the ones who took the longest under the hat. With that rationalization my choice was obvious.
{ " Just one more question if I may, how long did it take you to determine that I would pick Gryffindor."} I asked wanting to know why The Hat bothered playing this game when it could've just said Gryffindor.
{ " I knew you'd pick Gryffindor as soon I was placed on your head I just needed to guide you into choosing it.} The Hat said before shouting, " Gryffindor."
My robes gained red and gold colors as I took my seat at the Gryffindor table across from Harry Potter.
Author's Note:
So yeah i created a character that is totally unsuited for any house. So I applied the choosing theory that in order to be in Gryffindor you can choose it. Since the Hat couldn't sort him without him choosing Gryffindor on account of being totally unsuited for it. Yeah the Hat played some 5D chess to essentially get Adrian to do it's job for it. Honestly I'm not sur eitvwas the right call but since the sorting seems very subjective i figured might as well.
Next time- Who knows? No really I honestly didn't think I'd put him in Gryffindor, he was at one point going to be a Slytherin but then I realized that he didn't really have any ambition. So than he was going to be a Ravenclaw but apparently you have to want knowledge for knowledge sake, which he doesn't really care about, so Gryffindor.
