Repentance - Chapter 7

Nathan was returning to the city when he realized that someone was watching him, the back of his neck prickled and he knew that someone was watching. He knew from his mountie training that this person wasn't a bad person, because she didn't attack him, so he decided to go in front of the first house and then face the second house, taking a small shortcut and hiding and returning thus staying behind who was stalking him on that street. And to her greatest surprise, hidden on top of a ladder, there was him.

- Robert, get down from there now!

Said Nathan's soft strong voice in his best mountie style.

He noticed Robert coming down with a certain shyness and fear, in no time he raised his eyes to face Nathan, a weak voice was heard:

-Mountie Nathan, don't arrest her, she doesn't deserve to go to prison. for a mountie, what did he always aspire to be when he put people in danger? Robert could not have his conscience worse, never in his right mind would he put anyone in danger of life or freedom as he did with his teacher Elizabeth Thorton. Nathan noticed that Robert was realizing now, everything that his act caused and everything that could happen, and it seemed that the reality of these facts was throwing that boy to the ground.

- Robert, are you aware of the seriousness of your act yesterday?

- Yes, mountie Nathan, I went home after talking with you and Mrs. Thorton. On the way home I still heard from my mother, about what happens to those who steal horses and especially those who steal horses from a mountie.

- Do you know what would happen to her? Nathan asked in an upset voice, he didn't want to get too heavy with the boy, but he needed to make sure he saw and recognized his mistake, maybe another mountie in his or Bill's place could have thrown Elizabeth in jail without even looking at the facts.

- She could have died. She got her horse and we know how brave that horse is. She jumped from a horse to sergeant, she could have fallen or sergeant could have gotten nervous and thrown us to the ground, she could have been seriously injured or killed. Also, she stole a mountie's horse in front of the police station, my mother said that Mr. Lucas Bouchard, shouted at her in front of everyone, throwing it in her face as well as saying that she was not a lady.

Nathan snorted when he heard Lucas Bouchard's name, and when he remembered how he spoke to Elizabeth, humiliating her in front of the whole town, in addition to making her feel demeaned and inappropriate. But then a very good memory came to his mind "I AM NOT, NEVER WAS, AND NEVER WILL BE YOUR GIRLFRIEND. I ALREADY TOLD YOU WE ARE JUST FRIENDS..." And a silly smile sprouted on Nathan's face.

- If you have to arrest someone, let it be me, I didn't even go to school, so you won't have to go after her and embarrass her, just take me, I stole sergeant and he was a mountie's horse so just put that I also stole your horse Newton. She is very good to everyone in town, little Jack doesn't have a father anymore he can't be without his mother, and the other students need her, because only she believes that we will all be someone one day in our lives.

- I will not arrest you son, both Elizabeth and I, we just want you to be someone formed and a good life. You will make mistakes, as we all make mistakes, but we want you to see the consequences that would have, and thus avoid further problems. In life, we don't just do what we like or just feel like it, and everything has the right time. She didn't allow you to mount a sergeant to ride because she knew you weren't ready yet.

- I've never been as ashamed in my life as I am now, I've let everyone down; I let you down, Mrs. Thorton and Mountie Jack Thorton.

And so Nathan, looking at that child, realized that he and his Lizbeth needed to talk to him soon, because all of us when we fall and have a fall in life, we need someone to reach out to us and help us get up.
