Portrait of a Volturi mate - Marcus

First person POV

oooooooooooooooooooooo

I'm the human mate to a sad disconsolate vampire.

We had met one day in the village. It was cloudy out, the weather still warm. I was looking over the wares of a vendor selling beaded necklaces, my eyes fixated on a necklace made of green malachite. As I reached for it, another larger hand reached for it as well. I pulled back in shock when I felt icy fingers against mine. "I'm sorry," I said. I looked up at the tall masculine figure, with eyes of warm chocolate, his hair long, silky, and darker brown. His face looked as melancholy as I have ever seen a person appear, outside a funeral.

I let him have the necklace and I perused another table. It was only a few minutes later that I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Excuse me. I believe this is yours." His free hand held out the malachite bead necklace as he offered it to me.

"That's all right. I can find another."

"It's a gift," he said, his sad expression unchanged.

"Then let me pay you for it," I offered with a smile

"You can't pay for a gift," he said quietly.

I looked up and flashed a smile at the tall man. His eyes were looking at me, but his expression was the same, and I wondered what could have happened to him to make him so despondent. "Thank you," I said, taking the necklace from his hand. His cold fingertips grazed my palm before I pulled away.

That was the day I met Marcus Volturi, a vampire who had lost his mate long ago and swore he would take no other. Then he met me.

Marcus would reject me at first, refusing to get close to me, but in the end, he had no choice, or so he told me later. We were fated to be together. He finally accepted our mutual fates, and would court me as he put it, like he did his wife of long ago.

I had asked how she died, and he told me after he explained what he was. He said vampires felt the loss of their mates deeply. Marcus knew there was no one else for him.

One night, we were out walking in the village, and we stopped to listen to some music. Our arms were wrapped around one another, something rare in itself. I lay my head against his chest, hearing no sound. I closed my eyes, the coolness of his body felt through his clothing. When I pulled back to look up at him, Marcus held my chin with his fingers. He bent to kiss me, and I kissed him back. My arms moved up his back and I leaned into him, moans coming unbidden from my throat.

When we parted, he brushed his fingers over my cheek and for the first time, smiled at me. And I knew he was mine.

"I love you, Marcus," I said, meaning it with all my heart.

He gave me a quick kiss and hugged me, his soothing voice whispering in my ear, "I love you, my little human."

I was lifted up in his arms and spun around, we both laughing with joy.

Despite his initial desire to push me away, he ended up asking me to be his mate for all time. I will accept his gift of immortality soon and we will be together forever.

Marcus was a despondent man with no future that he could see. I was someone who felt I would never find anyone who would understand me. Now we both have love as our lives intertwine. A human and a vampire, living together as one.
