S2 E9 everypony! Secret of My Excess is up next!
Something excited had happened to both Malibu and Rarity one day: they both got the opportunity to stay in Canterlot for a couple days. Malibu was looking forward to seeing his mother again, and to help Rarity find a present for Twilight. He wanted to get her a present from Canterlot as well.
Twilight had managed to Rarity a suite at the castle while Malibu would stay in his own room. Celestia had given Screwball her own guest room so he was happy to not give up his own.
They had just arrived in Canterlot, Malibu having run into Celestia's arms, hugging her tight. She rubbed his back. "Oh, I always love when you visit, my son. And such a pleasure for your friend Rarity to be with us too."
She had them come to Rarity's suite, opening the door for her while a bell stallion carried Rarity's luggage. Rarity's eyes popped at the sight of her room. "Here? I get to stay here? Pinch me, Malibu!" Rarity squealed, making him laugh. He suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder. It was Screwball.
"Malibu!" Cheered Screwball in happiness, giving her friend a hug. He hugged her back, having missed the swirly eyed filly of chaos. She certainly looked quite well ever since staying with his mom in Canterlot. "How are you, Screwball?" He asked. She shrugged. "Ok, your mom had been very nice to me, even if I wasn't a unicorn and couldn't learn magic. She still welcomed me."
"That's good to hear," Malibu said, turning to see Rarity kissing Clestia's hooves and saying thank you over and over. The bell pony panted. "Your luggage, mademoiselle?" Malibu could tell that the poor guy was struggling greatly, going over, using his magic to lift the luggage up, the stallion smiling thankfully at him.
Rarity was startled at how kind her friend was to the bellhop, Celestia smiling at her son's kindness and generosity. "I see you are learning your friendship lessons well," She said, as Malibu set down Rarity's bags near her bed. "I learn from the best," He replied, winking at Rarity, who giggled.
"I'll leave you to get settled. Enjoy your stay," Celestia said, hugging her son before leaving, Screwball waving to her new caretaker, since she had yet to find a family outside of the castle to call her own when Discord was currently stone.
Rarity glanced out the window after the bellhop left, her eyes excited. "Shall we go and have a tour, you two?" She asked Malibu and Screwball who both nodded eagerly. Malibu longed to see more of his old home again, leaving the room with her after unpacking.
They stopped by a coffee shop to have a drink, Malibu enjoying his hot chocolate since he was never a fan of caffeine, Screwball enjoying a milkshake next to him. "This is so great! Getting to spend quality time with the element of generosity and love!" She said in an eager tone, making the two friends chuckle.
The white unicorn's cat had also come along, Opal sitting on the table with them, her usual stoic expression there. "Opal, guys, do you know what I love about Canterlot?" She took a sip of her drink. "Ahh. Everything! I may have been born in Ponyville, but I am a Canterlot pony at heart. Now, I know that we are here to pick up some fabrics for the shop, but Twilight was such a dear to get me that suite at the castle, I simply must make her something to express my gratitude. Hmm…"
Malibu himself wanted to get a present for Twilight on her birthday since she was turning 2 years old in pony years, and hoped he could find the right gift. "I'm sure you can think of something," He told Rarity with a grin. Rarity tapped her chin for a bit before spotting a Canterlot elite mare's dress. "Ooh! An outfit for the party this weekend! Perfect!" She decided, taking another drink from her mug.
Two ponies eventually walked by that looked terribly familiar to Malibu. They had noticed Rarity's pink hat she had been wearing and came by. She looked up, smiling nervously. "Please excuse our interruption. I'm Jetset and this is my wife, Upper Crust."
The teal alicorn gulped when recognizing them, trying to keep a low profile, Screwball tilting her head at them. "We saw you from across the cafe and just had to find out…"
Upper Crust spoke. "Where did you get that simply marvelous chapeau?" But then she spotted Malibu, who trembled a bit at the sight of Upper Crust. "Hm. So it is you again!" She huffed, frowning down upon Malibu. "We thought you left for good." Jet Set said in a mean mannered way. Malibu's eyes lowered, feeling rather nervous and upset, Rarity somewhat stunned by the couple's coldness towards Malibu.
Before she could speak out against them another male voice sounded from above. "Rarity! Hey, Rarity!" Malibu glanced up, seeing a crazy looking stallion washing the window but wound up falling down, swinging in front of the group. Screwball had yelped when it happened.
"It's me, Hayseed Turnip Truck! We met at the big hoedown in Ponyville last fall?" Rarity's ears fell, smiling awkwardly. This really wasn't the best moment for her, and her friends. "Oh, yes, of course… how are you?"
Turnip grinned. "Good! Real good!" He collapsed to the ground at last then. "Hmm… you're from… Ponyville?" Jet Set asked in disapproval, glaring at Malibu even more for bringing a low down pony over here to Canterlot. Hayseed grinned again. "She sure is! She's a real big-time fancy pants dressmaker there! Probably made that real purty thing she's got on her head!"
Malibu made a slashing movement with his hoof across his throat, shaking his head sharply, trying to tell this guy to shut up. He spotted Malibu now. "Oh, and the Prince! Such an honor to meet you!" Hayseed ran over and shook Malibu's hoof really fast like when he first met Applejack.
He could feel his face burn with embarrassment, the couple continuing to show their disapproval at the future ruler of Equestria. "I thought it looked a little country." Scoffed Upper Crust. Jet Set nodded. "I told you it wasn't something you could get here in Canterlot dear. And as for you," He pointed at Malibu. "Perhaps Ponyville is where you should've stayed." The two then jerked their heads up in the air, humphing while walking away.
The young former gargoyle felt his eyes moisten at those words. His mom hadn't been around to defend him this time and this stallion with them really messed up their outing. After saying goodbye to Hayseed the friends wandered back to the hotel, Screwball patting his shoulder.
"Don't listen to them, Malibu. They're just meanies," Screwball assured, Malibu smiling weakly back. "M-my mom defended me from them once. I just wish I could stand up for myself whenever she wasn't around." Rarity smiled gently. "I'm sure you will, darling. But, I wish to make something for Twilight worthy of Canterlot!"
She pulled out a paper and some pencils, drawing a very fancy design. It looked a tad too fancy for Malibu's taste but if Twilight liked it then that would be enough for him. After that they went out to get stuff to make the dress as well as Malibu trying to find the perfect present for Twilight, whom he was seeing as a sister now more than ever, and they also wrote to Twilight about the design being fancy but not describing what it was yet.
He wound up finding a nice book on the history of alicorns, knowing Twilight would read up on this book. Rarity was carrying many bags along with Opal using her magic. "I've got to get started right away. This new design is very ambitious!" Suddenly Rarity bumped into another pony, Malibu hoping it wasn't those rude unicorns. When taking the bag off of the pony's head, it revealed to be somepony he hadn't seen in ages.
Rarity gasped in shock. "Fancy Pants!" Fancy smiled, getting to his feet. "I say, that's one way to make an introduction," He said in his usual kind voice that Malibu remembered. He grinned, waving. "Hey, Fancy Pants. Remember me?" The stallion adjusted his monocle, now recognizing the alicorn before him.
"Oh, what a surprise! How nice to see you again!" Fancy Pants greeted, holding out his hoof. Malibu shook it, happy to see a friendly face. His wife Fleur went to hug him, and he accepted her hug, Rarity just standing there dumbstruck at the sight of her friend actually knowing Fancy Pants and Fleur de Lis.
"Y-you know him?" Rarity squeaked. Malibu nodded. "They helped me one Hearth's Warming ago while I still lived here when I was in a tight situation. But this is my friend Rarity Fancy. She's staying at the castle."
Fancy Pants looked impressed. "You know the prince, and are staying in the castle?" Rarity got her bags together. "Yes, the Princess invited me to stay in one of the suites. Fleur lifted up one of the bags. "Hmm, a pony with expensive tastes, I see." She gave the bag to Rarity.
"We're sorry to bump into you, by the way," Malibu apologized, also helping Rarity. "We're getting stuff to make for a friend on her birthday." The stallion shook his head. "I'm not. Rarity is obviously somepony worth bumping into."
Screwball and Malibu looked at each other in some surprise but both smiled. "Listen, I have a VIP box reserved at the Wonderbolts Derby this afternoon. Would you with your mates be so kind as to join me and a few of my companions there?"
Rarity gasped. "Us?" Malibu felt some excitement, having never been to a Wonderbolts derby in Canterlot, knowing Dash would be jealous whenever he told her about this. "But of course, my dear." Malibu watched his friend stutter slightly before accepting. Fancy Pants dusted himself from the bump. "We'd love to see you three there." He said, walking away, Fleur at first still standing there touching up her mane before seeing her husband walking off, following him.
…
Back at the hotel Rarity was struggling to decide on how to choose. "Pro: Seeing the Derby from a VIP box is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Con: Going to the Derby cuts into the amount of time I have to finish Twilight's outfit. Pro: Fancy Pants is the most important pony in Canterlot. His stamp of approval could mean big things for me here. Con: Twilight's party might not be as sophisticated as the Derby, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't put all of my energy into creating her birthday ensemble. My Ponyville friends will appreciate my hard work more than anypony. I'd hate to let them down."
Malibu glanced at the design. Sure it couldn't help to wait after the derby. "I-I suppose it would be nice to spend some time with Fancy Pants. But as long as we get to work afterward, since I still have to wrap mine," he said, holding up his book. Rarity frowned, then made up her mind. "And we won't! Friends, we're going to the Wonderbolts Derby as a guest of Fancy Pants!" She dressed up and began giggling excitedly.
Screwball saw Opal looking at the dress design, hoping Rarity wouldn't get too carried away with this.
….
At the Derby, the friends pushed through the crowd to make it to the vip box. At first the guard wouldn't let them in until Fancy Pants appeared with a smile on his face.
"Oh, Rarity, Malibu! Jolly good to see you all! So glad you can make it! And welcome, Miss Screwball!" He welcomed the young swirly eyed mare who smiled shyly at him, the three going up the stairs while Jet Set and Upper Crust stared in surprise and shock at the idea of the ruffians allowed to go up to the vip at all.
Malibu once inside the box gasped slightly at the sight of the other elite ponies wandering over to talk to Fancy Pants while the trio stepped to the side. He felt nervous around these rich ponies after being in Ponyville for so long.
Fancy Pants then introduced them. "Everypony; this is Rarity. She is staying at Canterlot Castle. And these are her dear friends: Prince Malibu and Screwball." The elites gasped a little in surprise, muttering under their breaths as the announcing of the derby began while he grinned nervously from their judging looks.
"Fillies and gentlecolts, welcome to the Wonderbolts Derby! The competitors are taking their places at the starting line, and the race will begin momentarily!"
The trio sat down together away from the elites as Fancy betted on his racer. "I'll be rooting for Rapidfire, of course. He's sure to take home the grand prize!"
Malibu then heard Rarity speak. "I don't think he has a chance against Fleetfoot." He cringed, seeing the elites gasp again, Rarity smiling nervously. The whistle started and Malibu was distracted by the Wonderbolt's usual graceful and exciting flying. Rarity watched with a big smile on her face along with Screwball who never been to a Wonderbolt event being a spawn of Discord and all.
"And it is Fleetfoot by a nose!" Called the announcer, the trio of friends cheering, for Malibu also voted for Fleetfoot since she was one of the main trio of Wonderbolts next with Spitfire and Soarin'. Fancy went up to them. "Bravo, Rarity. I say, how did you know Fleetfoot would be victorious?"
Rarity flushed. "My friend Rainbow Dash talks about her all the time. She says what Fleetfoot lacks in size, she makes up for in speed." Malibu's ears lowered as he shook his head sharply again to Rarity, trying to tell her not to reveal their Ponyville friends' reputation for them not being elites.
One mare with a fancy hat raised her brow. "And who is this… Rainbow Dash?" Malibu swallowed. If he revealed to them that he was in a relationship with Dash, who knows what they would say, especially Upper Crust and her husband. "Uh… why… she's the Wonderbolts' trainer, of course!" Rarity said in a lie to cover her background up.
Fancy Pants was again impressed. "Staying at the Canterlot Castle, friends with the prince, and she knows the pegasus pony training the Wonderbolts! I told you all this was an important pony!" The elites now gathered around Rarity.
Malibu mumbled into her ear. "You know Applejack wouldn't approve of you lying, right?" He muttered under his breath. Rarity gave him pleading eyes. "This is one of those times too, Mal. Please let me have this! Your reputation could be improved as well."
The teal alicorn rolled his eyes but eventually gave in, knowing sooner or later this little white lie would soon spread into chaos. Screwball herself was nervous about what would happen. "Three cheers for Rarity and her friends! My new favorite party guests!" Fancy Pants praised, raising Rarity's hoof in the air, following with the elite ponies cheering.
….
When leaving the event Malibu and Screwball found themselves watching Rarity entertaining the elites. "And then I said, Puh-lease, that isn't a hat, darling. That's just a natural disaster that somehow landed on top of your head!" It made the elites laugh in the most stuck up way Malibu could imagine, making him cringe more. He'd rather laugh with Pinkie Pie than them.
One mare named Silver Frames spoke. "Oh, you are a delight, Rarity. An absolute delight!" Malibu swished his tail. "And what are we, chopped liver?" He asked in irritation, Screwball nudging him lightly. "Keep the game going," She said softly. "Just think of Twilight's birthday." Malibu sighed a little before nodding again. That would help.
"You with your friends must attend my art gallery opening this evening!" Silver Frames invited with another irritating laugh. That flattered Rarity, her ears lowered. "Oh, I'd love to, but I—."
She was interrupted when the other stallion Golden Gavel also spoke up. "And let's not forget my charity auction tomorrow morning!"
Malibu decided to say something. "Really, we don't have the t—."
The third elite Swan Song made it even worse now. "And of course there's a seat for all of you at my dinner party tomorrow night!" Screwball's eyes lit up slightly at the idea of eating fancy food but Malibu nudged her, shaking his head no. "Uh, very nice offer but…" Screwball said timidly. "Yes, we're flattered, really." Rarity tried then, but Silver Frames now got all dramatic.
"Oh, but Rarity! I may as well close down the whole gallery if you can't attend!"
The other two also made their pleas to them to not miss their own gatherings. Rarity trembled, knowing she was in too tight a spot to say no. "Of… course we'll be there," She said in a small voice, ears lowered at the sight of Malibu's death glare, praying to him to not tell Applejack about her lying.
….
Later in the apartment, Rarity was pondering about the invitations. Malibu remained out of this, since this was all Rarity's doing when bringing her into this, but thankfully she still had Twilight's dress to do in mind. Malibu had wrapped his present already and kept it for now until they could finally go home and do Twilight's party.
"Looks like we'll be staying here for a few more days," She told them all and her cat. "Turns out us bumping into Fancy Pants was the best thing that had ever happened to me! Of course, finishing Twilight's dress in time for her birthday party is still my top priority."
Malibu still disapproved of her plan. "You know that sooner or later your secret of you being a low down Ponyville resident will soon come out?" Rarity began to laugh. "Oh, darling, it hasn't yet, so stop worrying! And I can't possibly disappoint the Canterlot elites by rejecting their invitations now, can I?"
That made the clone roll his eyes once more, but decided to let Rarity run on a loose leash for now. "Ok, but please don't forget Twilight's birthday present," He pleaded to her while Rarity put on a tiara. "I won't, I promise," She hugged Malibu who hugged her back, Screwball hoping this won't end badly. "Now come along, we have some elites to greet!"
The group left to go to each of the parties while Rarity sang a solo song about becoming the most popular pony in Canterlot:
"I'll be the toast of the town, the girl on the go
I'm the type of pony every pony, every pony should know
I'll be the one to watch, the girl in the flow
I'm the type of pony every pony, every pony should know
Becoming as popular as popular can be
Making my mark, making my mark in high society
I'm the belle of the ball, the star of the show, yeah
I'm the type of pony every pony, every pony should know
See how they hang on every word that I speak
My approving glance is what they all seek
I'm the creme de la creme, not just another Jane Doe
I'm the type of pony every pony should know
At home, at the opera, on a fancy yacht
Becoming the talk, the talk of all of Canterlot
I'm the creme de la creme, not just another Jane Doe, yeah
I'm the type of pony every pony, every pony should know!"
Malibu and the others watched an airship christening, before eventually returning back to the suite, the three exhausted. Screwball admitted it had its perks but could get draining trying to act like an elite, something she was glad about not being.
"Because I'm the type of pony
Yes, I'm the type of pony
Yes, I'm the type of pony every pony should know…."
Rarity finished singing softly, starting to make her next dress for another gathering, but gave up, exhausted. Smiling slightly, Malibu lifted her up with his magic and put her to bed, coaxing Screwball to come with him to rest after their busy days, grateful that nothing bad had happened.
…
In the morning Rarity had packed up her stuff, the bellhop once again holding all of the suitcases. "I hope I haven't forgotten anything," Rarity said. The bad thing about them getting distracted by all the parties was that Rarity had wasted her time to make Twilight's dress and now had to go back home to do it, and Malibu had been feeling frustrated at her for it, but was glad to go home. He had given his mom one last hug before they left.
"We'd better get going. I must get back to Ponyville with enough time to finish Twilight's ensemble." Malibu's eyes glowed red a little. "You know this is your fault for wasting your time?" He huffed, following her to the door until the letterbox clicks and a envelope fell in.
"Huh?" Screwball asked, tilting her head at the sight. Malibu wondered what it could be, and it was for Rarity. She lifted it up to read. "Dearest Rarity, your presence is requested at the Canterlot garden party tomorrow afternoon. Yours, Jet Set and Upper Crust!"
Malibu's stomach sank. Not again! Rarity's eyes shone in awe. "The Canterlot Garden party! Why, next to the Galloping Gala that is the premier event in Canterlot!"
She squealed aloud until Malibu tapped her harshly on the shoulder. "Uh, no, no no no, Rarity! That'll make you miss Twilight's party!" Rarity's ears fell. "But, Malibu, if I don't go, our new reputation in Canterlot as a VIP will be ruined! We might never be invited to another high society event again! Friend's birthday, very important pony!"
Screwball felt very awkward during all this, hating to see her friend stressed and Malibu angry, for eventually, to their surprise; Rarity had chosen to go to the party instead of Twilight's birthday one, faking Opal being ill in more lying! Malibu's eyes glowed red. "Rarity, you're on your own with this one! I can't keep up this charade with you anymore, VIP or not! I won't tell them you lied, but it'll be up to you to decide to tell your friends the truth!"
Rarity whimpered from Malibu's outburst, but nodded, going to get dressed. She came out all fancy, smiling again, thinking about the party, putting on a hat. "Garden party, here I come!" When she opened the door, there stood Twilight Sparkle and the other 4, all smiling big. Malibu's face went white when seeing Applejack, swallowing.
"Surprise!" The 5 all cheered out loud, making Rarity faint right there on the spot. Twilight went in to give Malibu a hug, his belly still filled with dread. Now that they were here, he felt even more nervous. "T-Twilight… you're here?" He croaked. She nodded. "Yeah, we heard what was happening and came over."
Rainbow Dash nudged Rarity. "Looks like she's coming out of it now," She told them all. Rarity blinked her eyes open, seeing her friends again. "Hi again!" Pinkie chirped. "What are you— how did you— why are you?" She stuttered. Screwball herself felt happy to see their other friends, glad to have a chance to hang out with the whole mane seven, shaking Fluttershy's hoof.
"Listen to her. She's so excited to see us she can hardly talk!" Applejack grinned, Malibu smiling nervously at the pony of honesty. "What I mean to say is; what are you all doing here?"
Twilight replied. "When I got your letter saying you were stuck in Canterlot, I asked Pinkie Pie if it wouldn't be too much trouble to move my birthday party here, so you wouldn't have to miss it!" Malibu felt his heart soar slightly despite their situation, happy that they would go out of their way to ensure they wouldn't miss this party. Speaking of which…
"Hey, Twi, I got my own present for you, I just gotta go get it," He said, teleporting to his room while the others asked Rarity what had been going on. Malibu reappeared in his room, grabbing the present for his 'sister', teleporting back, right on time to hear the shower running and Opal screeching. He had a feeling Rarity went to make sure Opal really did look sick.
"She's resting on the bed!" Rarity called out, Fluttershy flying in to check on her, Opal not looking happy with Fluttershy hugging her. Malibu raised his brow at Rarity. "Not gonna ask," He muttered. Twilight received her present from Malibu, thanking him gratefully, opening it, revealing the book. "Oh, a limited edition of the History of Alicorns! I've been searching for this thing!"
Malibu grinned. "Nothing but the best for my adopted sis," He said, until next Twilight saw the dress Rarity had attempted at earlier, looking so very simple indeed. "Is… that my dress?" Twi asked in confusion. Rarity gulped, nodding. "Yes."
"It's so… simple. So practical. So me! It is the perfect dress for my birthday party!" Twilight went to hug Rarity. "I love it!" Rarity laughed nervously. "You don't know how happy I am to hear you say that." With her tail she knocked the original design into the trash. Malibu then knew she wasted her bits on material she was never going to use now.
….
In mid afternoon the gang went to the ballroom. Twilight explained further. "When I told the Princess that I was moving the party to Canterlot, she was kind enough to offer us the Canterlot Castle ballroom!"
Malibu stared in awe at the party decorations. Pinkie had really outdone herself this time. "Isn't it fancy pants?" Pinkie Pie asked, making Rarity squeak in fear. "Fancy Pants?! Where?!" Everypony stared down at their fashion friend, as she looked awkward again. "Ahh, I mean, where did you find the time to put up all these decorations? Ha-ha!"
Pinkie Pie pulled a big colorful cannon out of nowhere. "Oh, I never leave home without my party cannon!" She pushed on the fuse like a button, sending confetti everywhere, Malibu flinching as some of it hit him in the face. This was quite the device Pinkie Pie had.
Twilight looked out the window. "I thought of having my birthday outside. But they're having another party on the castle grounds today." That made the threesome swallow in fear, knowing that they could notice the not so sophisticated activity going on inside.
Malibu saw Rarity hide behind the wall near the window while the other elites laughed. Pinkie Pie slowly showed up next to Malibu and Rarity, her face split into a grin. "Let's party!"
The mane 7 began to celebrate Twilight's party, which turned out to be a lot of fun for Malibu now that he wasn't worrying about acting posh or fancy in front of others. It lifted the burden off of his shoulders. But he would still consider Fancy Pants as a friend since he had help.
But then he spotted Rarity going out to the party, and decided to have a peek while the others were busy. Screwball had joined him while eating her cake. "What is she doing?" The filly asked in confusion. Malibu frowned. "Making a fool of herself, that's what it is," He commented, shaking his head in disapproval. Applejack had noticed. "Hey, what's up, Sugarcube?"
Malibu quickly turned around, smiling nervously. "Uh, nothing." He said, laughing. Applejack raised her brow, then shrugged, going to celebrate more. Rarity had come back inside, making him sigh in relief, but she kept going back and forth, trying to attend two parties at once. Screwball herself guessed her father would've liked this chaos going on with Rarity, watching her mane get more frazzled and she got delirious.
Dash then finally noticed something off. "Uh, what's with the croquet mallet?" Malibu's eyes popped when seeing said object in Rarity's mouth. "What croquet mallet?"
"Duh? The one in your mouth?" Rainbow said, frowning. Malibu tried to make signals to Rarity to lose the mallet. She quickly dropped it, laughing nervously more. "Oh, that croquet mallet! I- well I, you know, the truth is… the truth is…"
Just say it, Rarity… Malibu sighed inwardly, shaking her head, knowing she was nearing the end of her rope of lies. Twilight glanced towards the window. "Were you at that other party in the garden?"
Rarity struggled to say something. "Twilight, let me explain! I—!"
Twilight however didn't look angry, most likely, she didn't even know the full truth about her situation. "I hadn't realized you were such a savvy business pony!"
Malibu was startled but took it, ready to spill the truth in front of everypony if need be. "All of those ponies look so posh. And with the Grand Galloping Gala coming up again, I bet you could totally get some of them to buy your dresses! Very smart!"
"Woo, wwwhy yes, I-I didn't want you to think I was being rude, so that's exactly the reason I didn't tell you. The one and only reason." Rarity stated, her ears flat, seeing Malibu's death glare at her. Twilight simply smiled. "Oh, well, you didn't have to do that. You should totally go over there and mingle!"
That really stunned the teal alicorn gargoyle. This was the nicest gesture from Twilight he had ever witnessed. She really had changed since first meeting her. Rarity looked ready to cry. "Twilight, you really are the best friend a pony could ever ask for. I don't know why I ever thought you would understand!"
She had hugged her friend there. "Understand what?" Twilight Sparkle questioned. Rarity gulped. "Nothing! See you all later!"
Malibu decided also to follow, to keep taps on Rarity, until Rainbow Dash followed as well. "Hey, wait up! We're your friends! I'm sure they won't mind if we check out the party too!"
Not good… so not good… Malibu groaned inwardly, seeing Screwball's face matching his own. "C'mon you guys! Let's show them how to party Ponyville Style!" Rainbow declared in determination.
"Oh no!" Rarity squealed, Malibu's eyes glowing red right at her. "This is your mess, you clean it up!" He snapped, making her nod, heading out to see the chaos.
It definitely was; all the elites were startled at the sight of his friends all partying in a rambunctious manner, scaring some of the partygoers away. Malibu didn't know what to do here, feeling very awkward about disturbing this party but deep down not really since it was hosted by Jet Set and Upper Crust anyway.
While Twilight was dancing vigorously, Fancy Pants had come up to her, noticing her plain dress. "Excuse me, might I ask where you got your… ensemble?"
The purple unicorn nodded. "Why, yes! Yes you may. A very, very close friend of mine from Ponyville made it for me."
Malibu saw Rarity spit out her punch, quickly racing over. Fancy raised his brow. "Ponyville? You don't say?"
"I do say! Her name is—."
Rarity tapped Fancy's shoulder. "Fancy Pants! Come with me! I'd like to show you this, er, thing, that's over there. On the other side of the room!" Fancy Pants shook his head. "In a moment my dear. This lovely filly from Ponyville was just about to tell me who made her charming dress."
Here it comes… Malibu groaned again, closing his eyes, bracing himself for the disapproval of those two bullies. "Oh, don't be so modest! This dress you made is beautiful!" Twilight complimented, much to the elite's dismay and shock, the party halting and freezing, all gasping aloud.
Screwball came to comfort Malibu while Fancy looked his direction then back at Twilight, his other friends surrounding her. "We all think so!"
"You know these ponies?" Fancy Pants asked Rarity and Malibu, who felt beads of sweat. But there was no point anymore. And plus, they deserved better respect after saving the world twice. Rarity then spoke. "Yes. Yes we do know them. They may not be as sophisticated as some of you Canterlot ponies, but they are our best friends! And without a doubt the most important ponies we know!"
Malibu felt tears of respect in his eyes, happy for Rarity to finally come clean about it. Jet Set huffed. "Important ponies? These ruffians?"
"Don't make me laugh!" Mocked Upper Crust, the two laughing. Malibu at that moment had enough too. "You'd better give them the proper respect! Elites or not, they're also the Elements of Harmony next to me and Rarity! And we're not ruffians, so suck it up and leave us alone!" He growled, wings out, making the couple back in fear a little.
Fancy Pants looked impressed by Malibu standing up for his friends. "And I for one find them charmingly rustic," He then complimented. Malibu grinned at him. "I also think the dress you made for your friend is lovely, Rarity. I dare say every mare in Canterlot will be wanting one. So how about introducing me to your friends?"
Rarity's eyes shone, as did Malibu's and Screwballs, happy all this was over now. "With pleasure!" After that, the party went on normally, the elites accepting them a bit better.
…
After all that happened, Rarity knew a letter to Celestia was in order, Malibu watching her begin to write after Screwball gave him a goodbye hug since they were going home finally after, the two of them having apologized to each other from the ordeal.
"Dear Princess Celestia,
I wanted to tell you about the important lesson I learned during my visit."
Malibu smiled when seeing his mom come into the room. "Now that, I would like to hear," She said, Rarity continuing while Malibu hugged his mom again. Celestia had heard about how he stood up for himself, which she felt proud of.
"I learned that no matter where you go in life, you should never forget that you are the product of your home and your friends. And that is something always to be proud of, no matter what."
Celestia nodded in approval. "Hm, a very valuable lesson to have learned."
Malibu's ears perked at the sound of the bellhop's voice. "It certainly is! But… might I ask that we hurry things up a bit?!" He then staggered and collapsed, causing the three to all smile at each other.
Next episode should be an interesting one! Reviews (No flames) are still welcome!
