But that peace is not what I desire for the way of getting it is indefinite. Which is why I got to keep my integrity no matter what so I can get the peace I truly desire the most. That is one of the many reasons for what is so great about life, Tails, the ability to satisfy your desires." He stands up, keeping his sights at the setting sun. "I can't give you much more advice than that, so keep that integrity, hold it tight, aim for what you desire the most and remember…" He looks at his friend with a smile.

"Sonic…" Tails said before everything went to a blur, his eyes fluttering open meeting a ceiling. He sits up and finds himself in a room made of stone. "Where-"

"Am I?" Says a blue mobian after awakening to find himself sitting on a hard metal bed in a big metal room. As he gets off the bed

Thump

He suddenly felt his feet feeling heavier than usual, he looks down to see his feet…covered in strange tech. Shrugging it off at first, he takes a step forward…but his leg didn't move whatsoever, he looks at his foot again and sees the device now active. He gritted his teeth realizing what this could be, with his strength he tries to lift the feet off the ground and he succeeds in…

Thump

Before it fell back down with a thump.

'Magnets. Very strong magnets'

"HOHOHOHOHO!" His head whips up, looking for who said that. "It seems you've figured out what those little gizmos do! The more the obstacles there are, the more pain that will be inflicted." Then he looks above to see a lited opening, a familiar silhouette showing his dominance.

He growled. "Eggman." He reaches for his sling bag only to realize it wasn't in his possession.

"Looking for this?" The mobian looks back at the doctor only to grit his teeth seeing the man holding his sling bag. "Good morning my Sonic! Welcome to the start of your miserable life. Enjoy while it lasts, for it'll be the last thing you'll ever see, HOHOHOHOHO!"

Act 4

The Lost Cause

88 Hours after Sonic's death, 12 Hours after recruitment of Kiba

Space

As Eggman laughed, Sonic glared at him. "We'll see about that!" He said before trying to go at him only for his magnetic shoes to stop him right then and there, making him grunt.

"Oh, I'm sorry, but those electro-magnetic shoes called fittingly called The Slow Down Boots say otherwise. After all, they are one of my greatest inventions when it comes to immobilizing you." Eggman explained.

Sonic replaced his frustration with a smirk. "Yeah right. This is just one of your creations egghead, I will find a way out of this then get out of this place too!"

"Oh, but will you?" A barrier guarding the opening deactivates, allowing the doctor to enter the room and descend upon his eggmobile. "If I recall correctly, spindash, homing strike, your trademark speed, and many others in your skill tree all rely on one key variable…your feet. And with that variable now disabled." He smiled. "Will you even escape again?"

That question confused the hedgehog. "Again? What do you mean again?"

"So you don't remember then?" Eggman turns his back on Sonic, "Of the time I did the same stunt…" He then glances at him. "But with chaos energy."

Those words clicked in Sonic's head, the time he went through the same situation but how it happened was…embarrassing. He glared at the doctor. "Yeah, I remember it now, you tricked me into putting on those boots, thinking they were my normal ones."

"Bingo! And during that time you managed to regain your speed by using the chaos emeralds' power to help you be free from your predicament." Eggman said, readjusting his glasses. "But this time though, I have learned from those mistakes and improved on them, instead of using the predictable, chaos energy, how about I use something more, practical aka magnets, very very strong magnets."

Sonic growled as the doctor turned to him again.

"But no more of the details, I appreciate we get things going already, after all." Eggman's glasses glowed. "I do have a world to conquer." A hatch underneath the egg mobile opened up and out came a brown checkered wrecking ball.

The hedgehog's eyes widened. Before him was a weapon that brought back memories, the time he fought Eggman for the first time. Logically he can wipe the floor with him if he uses the speed that he has grown over the years and can basically end this within ten seconds.

IF he had it that is.

Not knowing how this battle will end, Sonic prepared for battle even if he had magnetic shoes.

"Oh, look at you, still ready for a challenge even if your only necessary skill is sidelined. It makes me pity you a little." He grinned again. "Tell ya what. Since you have always been fair to me after all our confrontations, let me pay you back in return." His glasses glowed again. "I've lessened the force your shoes have. You can now use at least twenty percent of your speed again."

Sonic looked at him in surprise as he felt his feet weren't as hard to move than earlier. He smirked. "Thanks, egghead, I'll make sure to put this to good use…BY TAKING YOU DOWN!" He sprinted for the doctor as fast as he can, made a jump for it, then homing strike-

ZOOM

POW

"GAH!" What sent back to the ground. As he got back up grunting, he looked in shock by what just happened. The moment he came in to strike, Eggman…dodged it before sending that wrecking ball at him.

"You think so, Sonic?" Eggman approached the mobian, the eggmobile dragging the wrecking ball as he did. "Mind I remind you again, I only brought back TWENTY Percent of your speed, and even with that speed, you weren't at the same speed you were even when we first met all those years back."

"We'll see about that!" Sonic talked back before going at him agai-

POW

"AGH!" Sonic was slammed yet again, he didn't even get a chance to jump.

"And we saw about that," Eggman said, before seeing the hedgehog getting back to his feet. "You got your first two moves…time for me to do mine." He slams a button then rocket boosters activate sending him toward Sonic in an instant before.

"GAH!" Sonic grunted as Eggman slammed his wrecking ball at him over and over and over, as if there was no tomorrow.

"Always wanted to do this." The doctor whacks the hedgehog again this time sending him into the air before falling back down but before he hit the ground. "BATTER UP!"

KAPOW

CRASH

He batters Sonic like a baseball sending him crashing to the wall. The hedgehog then slides to the ground, limping. "You know, it's very satisfying, seeing your first ever weapon that was meant to defeat you, finally getting the highlight it deserves after all so long." He slowly approaches the mobian, wrecking ball all ready for whack-

Beep Beep beep

The doctor sighs. "Though it appears my playtime with you has come to an end." He jumps off from the eggmobile and approaches the now banged-up hedgehog. He grabs his face and makes Sonic look at him. "Don't worry though, there are more activities for you coming up in the next few days, weeks, months, and maybe years perhaps but for now, rest, rodent." He lets go of him and walks off, but then hears groaning.

"I-I…am…n-not…done…yet!" Eggman glances back at him as the mobian gets and limps to him. "SONIC-"

POW

"Gaaahhhh…" Sonic hits the wall again, losing consciousness once more. The doctor just shakes his hand after punching him.

"Wow, talk about good body build, I better get into shape if I'll ever punch someone again." He says before walking back into his eggmobile. He presses one of his yellow buttons. "Send in the medical bots for the hedgehog." Then he leaves the bruised hedgehog to rest…

His stay has just begun.

1 Day Later

"Rise and shine, rodent."

"H-Huh-GAH!"

CRASH

After hearing a deep voice Sonic was forced awake after getting grabbed and slammed into the metal wall. His eyes soon met with a pair of purple eyes. He growled. "Z-Zavok."

Zavok smirked before throwing Sonic to the ground. The hedgehog groans and gets back up, he soon notices his body has fully recovered after a short amount of time. The Zeti slowly walks to him. "Don't stay shocked forever, your recovery is only but a necessary factor for the eternal regretful suffering that you shall feel."

The hedgehog looks at him and growls, this Zeti is by far the baddest out of the Deadly Six, after everything he has done to him back at Lost World though the regret is something he understood greatly, he did after all accidentally free him from Eggman, speaking of which. "Hey, why are you helping Eggman again? Didn't you try to destroy our world after Eggman enslaved you?"

"Ah yes, the events that supposedly conflict with my new alliance with the doctor." Zavok rubs his finger tips together before looking back at Sonic. "Well, you can say, we let bygones be bygones." He cracks his knuckles. "But that's enough talk, let your day two, BEGIN!" He charges for Sonic.

Sonic ran to him, his slow down boots reminded him once more of his limitations, but at least he still had twenty percent of his speed, hopefully, that could be useful-

POW

"UGH!" He fails to dodge Zavok's punch, resulting in him flying across the room and to the ground. As he gets back up, Zavoks charges in again with a punch, with dodging being useless he goes for the next option.

WHAM

He catches it with both arms. "Ack!" Wincing at the amount of force that came in, he manages to glare at the zeti,

"Interesting, I've never seen you use hand-to-hand combat before." Zavok commented.

"W-Well." Sonic said. "N-Now you know." He soon notices his arms trembling.

The Zeti notices. "But it appears you aren't at the level of my stature,"

Sonic grits his teeth, thinking quickly of what to do next, then something came to mind. He hasn't used it for a while but he doesn't have any options so he goes for it. "How about THIS!"

POW

He sends a fist to Zavok's pace causing a mini shockwave. But to his shock, the Zeti didn't flinch.

"Uhuh, definitely not at my level."

KAPOW

Zavok uppercuts the hedgehog into the air before sending consistent punches, keeping him in mid-air no matter what, until he jumped up as well and-

KAPOW

CRASH

Slams the hedgehog back to the ground. After landing back down he approaches Sonic now bruised up from all the punches he took.

The Zeti chuckles, "Well, my job here is done…for now." He walks off. "See you ina few days, I'll make sure to bring in more playmates."

Sonic's vision soon turned black.

2 Weeks Later

Ever since then Sonic kept on waking up to a sudden pain in any part of his body before meeting his caretaker of the day.

On the first few days, it was Metal Sonic along with the mechas, one by one they got their turn on beating Sonic to the ground showing how they were faster and stronger than he could ever be. Metal even did the same taunt he mimicked from him a long time back, angering him until he was knocked out by a metallic kick.

Then it was Chaos, the creature did something different than before which was turning into a puddle before hitting him over and over in liquid form so he won't be able to catch it, then it forced himself into Sonic, making him lose his oxygen for then complete minutes, after coming out of him, the hedgehog feel back to sleep.

Next were Erazor Djinn and King Arthur who gave him the beating they believed he deserved for what he has done to them within the books, they used the most brutal attacks on him but made sure not to kill him hence why King Arthur just kept on giving Sonic so many cuts as possible, even going to the point of destroying Sonic's iconic shoes!

Then Mephiles came, who just kept on using the same move he used way back to kill the hedgehog the first time but this time, he made sure not to kill him but after he did that he gave the hedgehog to Iblis who just did not but pin him down and begin burning his skin with his minions, his screams were worth it.

Dark Gaia, who was now the size of a house just slammed its hands on Sonic without any signs of stopping.

To make matters more hurtful for his pride, all of Eggman's bots which were dubbed, The First Boss PUMMELED the mobian as if there was no tomorrow,

But even with these beatings, Sonic kept on going, kept on making sure he didn't go out without a fight, no matter what they did to him he never stopped giving up, he was a hero after all, and as a hero, he needs to keep on going.

But maybe that ends.

Today

Sonic collapses to the ground, after trying to survive Metal Sonic only to fail miserably, but at least he didn't get knocked out by him! Metal Sonic just stood there, its soulless eyes glaring at the hedgehog until something beeped in his head literally,

As Sonic rises back up he notices his robotic copy exiting the room. "What? Why is he-"

"Hello, hedgehog. We meet again."

Sonic's heart dropped. That voice, he remembers that voice and its owner all too well. How he wasn't able to land a single slash on him, how he was out sped by him, how he was beaten to death by him, and most of all, how he gave him no choice but to fight him and many others off while Tails and the civilians tried to escape. He gave him pain, and now he has come back for more. He was just behind him.

"So, how's your stay."

"SHUT UP!" Swiftly turning around, Sonic sends a fast punch to the face.

But it gets caught by him

"It seems master really did take away all that speed. Though you do have a little left, it won't be enough. But was still even good if you couldn't hit me at full power?"

"GRAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Sonic shouts as he pushes the mysterious opponent to the wall allowing him to finally see who he was. Being held down by his hands was a mobian, however, there was no color visually, it was as if something was covering him purposefully to keep his true colors from being seen. "Who-Who are you? TELL ME!?"

"Well since you ask, I might as well tell you now."

WARP

He suddenly disappears, shocking the hedgehog. But then he sensed the mobian, behind him once more

"I am the weapon created by Master Eggman, geared with everything I need to take down anyone I see as an opponent, no matter the specialty." Sonic turns around and sees him gone again. Where did he go-

POW

"GAH!" The mobian punched him from the right.

"Strength."

WHAM

"Sense."

CRASH

"Intelligence."

WHACK

"Weaponry."

SLASH

"Artillery."

BANG

"Magic."

WHIP

"And Speed."

BOOM

Whenever he said something he had advantages over he would give Sonic the power he can use, from using punches to hitting him with his eyes closed to maneuvering around him to hit his head, to striking him with a sword he magically summoned, to guns that actually dug into the skin, magic that stung him and worst of all, the speed he has conquered over.

"No matter what you try, I will always triumph."

Sonic was now on his knees, blood now spilling to the floor from the scratches and bullet holes he now has. "Y-Y-You…w-w-will…l-l-lose!"

"I highly doubt that though, after all." The mobian grabs Sonic's face and makes him look into his eyes. "You can't even protect your friends anymore."

His eyes widened once more. "Wh-What!?" Suddenly, with a wink of an eye Sonic found himself in the void of nothing. He keeps his guard up before noticing how light his feet are, he looks down to see the slow-down shoes were gone which made him sigh in relief.

Then he heard crying

He looks around for the source of the crying and then spots who it was…Cream. "Cream?" What was she doing here? How did she even get to where he was even. He approaches the crying child. "Cream? Are you okay?"

Hearing his voice, the rabbit looks at him…

Red eyes appeared, behind her.

"CREAM!" He dashed for her

SLASH

But was too late. The child fell to the ground, dead.

Seeing the child lay there sent a wave of dread to him. "N-No…"

"Those who you inspired, believed you'll keep them safe."

KRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Sonic turned around and now saw Charmy being chased by one of Iblis' flying beasts. "CHARMY!" He rushed to his aid but was then stopped by a group of ground enemies. He takes them down in an instant and ran after the bee again. "DON'T WORRY CHARMY! I'LL SAVE-"

CHOMP

"You…" The bee was eaten whole, making the hedgehog's face pale.

"They believed they can be your teammate."

Then he saw Rouge, Shadow, Knuckles Vector, and Espio fighting against multiple badniks along with Death Egg Bots. He tries to get here as fast as possible but then a stray energy bullet explodes on him, knocking him down, and forcing him to see them all…die by their metalic hands.

"Believed you can back them up."

Then he saw Amy, all bruised up but still stood, only to stand before the metal Sonic who had her blood on his hand. Sonic tries to get there but then an entire obstacle course appeared forcing him to go through it all to just make it there in time but when he got there…Amy lay lifeless, Metal now covered in her blood. His face soon morphed to horror, running to his oldest friend, the one who chased him down most of his life yet enjoyed either way. "Amy? Amy!? AMY!?" He tried to shake her awake but was futile, she was long gone now.

"Believed they can stay with you forever."

"But most of all."

"S-Sonic?" Sonic's eyes widened. He turned around and saw Tails, his brother, his little buddy, his best friend, being choked by the mobian as said mobian stared the hedgehog down.

"T-Tails…" Then he saw it, the mobian, now crushing the fox's throat, making the kid beg for air. "TAILS!"

ZOOM

He ran, he ran all he could, no matter what obstacle that came in, he just crashed through them all, not caring for anything, not caring for anyone that stood in his past, he can't…he just can't… He was close, so close. But he started to hear cracking, tears now forming in his eyes as he saw his best friend look the same way. He was now within arms reach "No…"

CRACK

…

Both arms fell, his blue eyes turned lifeless, Tails…was gone.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" He rammed the mobian away making him drop the fox. Sonic catches the body he looked at his face with tearful eyes. Shaking his body. "Tails. P-Please, stay with me man. PLEASE!" He tried all he could, but no matter what he tried…

There was no response.

Tears then dropped on the fox's face, tears that belonged to Sonic. "Tails…" He hugged the fox tight before sobbing nonstop.

"They believed in you." The mobian stood before him. "You alone, all their hopes, their dreams, their futures, were all in your hands. And you let them down. If you were never there, maybe NONE of this would've occurred. Face it…Sonic…it's…all…your…fault."

Sonic then began to cry his eyes out, all the pain he held back for so many days finally caved, no more was it the hero who had hope, but now one with no more hope. "GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" He screamed before slamming the ground.

Then in an instant, Sonic and the mobian were back in the metal room, with no dead bodies of any of the hedgehog's friends in sight.

"Now, it's time you accept reality, and spend the rest of your days here." The mobian grabs him, then drags him out of the room and to…a mall entrance. He then throws him in. "Make sure you get comfortable, for this will be the only place you'll ever feel peace but I highly doubt now with the extra perk. Farewell, Sonic the Hedgehog, Fallen hero of Mobius." He then leaves the room, the holographic barrier forming soon after

After he left, Sonic continued sobbing while he began to feel the overwhelming pain going through his body, his legs felt like plastic, his arms felt like jelly, his chest like crumpled paper, and he could hardly breathe from all the injuries he took. Taking the last of the courage that he may have left, He looks around his new…room.

Every metal in the room was completely covered in rust, the bed…frame was just a flat rusty metal held by chains, the faucet was constantly dripping, the sink covered in water…black water, and worst of all…it was small. There are many more things you can describe but all can just be summarized as this, it was the complete opposite of everything Sonic has seen. As he looked around the room his world fell, as he sees what was meant by extra perk.

In his cell was a window, a big, holographic, impenetrable, window, with a perfect view of the voided space and most of all…Mobius. Mobius was now covered in red. Sonic, now utterly shocked at what he is seeing touches the surface of the hologram only for it to make a noise. He steps back and saw the window coming to life before it began to zoom closer to his home world.

His eyes widened in horror as the window showed him…everything. Greenhill was now turned into a desolate desert, San Franobia has become a complete ruin scattered with Death Eggs, Station Square was once more covered in water, Soleanna burnt to ashes, bygone now ransacked of everything, mobotropolis torn to pieces, and many more, all now ruin but even worse of all was all the bodies that were seen, no matter what area there was a body, bodies over bodies, scattered around all in blood, all who thought they can fight back but no, all because…they believed in…Sonic.

"N-No…NO! PLEASE! STOP!" He cried out, clutching his head with both hands, he wanted the pain to go, to leave him to suffer now that he has seen so much but it never left, and it will never leave because of what he sees things. "Please…let it end…please."

A Lost Cause

Angel Island, Resistance HQ

"WHERE"S TAILS!? HAS ANYONE SEEN HIM!?" Amy shouted through the hall, looking from every room there was.

The Chaotics, Mighty, Ray, and even Kiba searched the base head to toe for any signs of the fox, but none.

"Where could he have gone!?" The pink hedgehog shouted pacing around, her face now in utter worry. "He has been missing for hours now! Where is-"

"He's gone."

Everyone stopped and saw Knuckles entering the room. "I looked around the premises and managed to get his trail but when I reached the end…he already left." He then pulled out a piece of paper. "He left this though."

Amy got the paper and began to read what it said.

I know what I'm doing will make you all worry for me though I am sorry for making you all worry, I'm not sorry for what I did. You all may believe he is gone, but I don't, I don't think he's alive, I KNOW he's alive and I won't stop till I find him. I'll also make sure to take care of the areas I go to just in case Eggman hasn't conquered them yet.

Amy sighed. "And here I thought we would get his help and mass producing more wispons." She puts the paper away. "I'm sorry Tails." Then she was patted by Knuckles.

"Amy, we all knew how Tails will react to the news and no one couldn't have changed his actions after he heard it if they could. We just have to believe that he will be fine out there," Knuckles assured her.

Amy sighed one last time. "Yeah…I guess you're right."

No matter how you tell it to someone, it won't change the conclusion at the end, and for Tails it meant leaving to find what he believed. They could've followed him but they still had to take care of the resistance. So in the end, they can't follow Tails because for now…

He was a Lost Cause.
