It's exactly what the title says, I'm explaining who exactly Leongar and Octavia found (although if you know anything about the Galactic Kids Next Door plotline, you most likely already know who they are) and what they know. Let's get going!
"Um…hi?"
To say that Numbuh 362, otherwise known as Rachel Mckenize, and Numbuh 60, otherwise known as Patton Drilovsky, were having a bad…everything was an utter understatement. For Rachel, it began when Numbuh 1, one of the best operatives on the planet (and totally not someone she had a huge crush on), had suddenly vanished without a trace. No one had said anything about it and she couldn't get anyone to explain. Not even Sector V was willing to give her any information. Then, she discovered more information about the supposed "Splinter Cell", who wanted to wipe all adults out rather than just focus on evil ones. She had stepped down from the Supreme Leader position in order to do more investigating and what she found left her both engaged and horrified.
The Splinter Cell was real and operated far beyond the atmosphere of Earth. And they had been active for a lot longer than she had been led to believe. The further she dug, the more things began to click together. Operatives that seemed to just appear in the organization one day? They had been changing records in order to sneak in. Strange behaviors from some of the operatives (stuff that went beyond simply being a kid)? They were aliens trying to pretend to be human. Numbuh 1's disappearance? He had been recruited under a cover to serve the "Galactic Kids Next Door", which Numbuh 362 realized was code for their plan to induct/indoctrinate him into their way of thinking. She knew that if she suddenly began talking about aliens inflating the KND, it would be written off as a paranoid, sleep deprived rant. Thus, she started small, revealing her findings to one of her closest friends, Numbuh 60. While skeptical at first, he was quickly convinced via his own trust in his friend as well as the fact that several Galactic Kids Next Door spies had no records of training at the Arctic Base. They were getting ready to bring their other friend/Numbuh 60's not so secret girlfriend, Numbuh 86 into the fold as well when they were found out by one of the spies. The duo had been forced into hiding, but it wasn't long before they were caught, which brought them to where they were now-trapped on the ship of a pack of genocidal psychopaths, hundreds of billions of light years from home and with two strange aliens, both of which were armed, staring them down. For a few minutes, no one dared to speak, then Numbuh 362 decided to take a risk.
"So…you aren't with them, are you?" She asked as she slowly got to her feet, looking for anything she could use as a weapon as well as sizing up the two aliens. Both were rather large, with the one on the left wielding a futuristic looking poleaxe and appearing to be kinda like a manticore. He had the body of a lion and long flowing wings. Yet he also was clearly an alien and not a mythical creature. To start with, his mane was an ethereal blue and seems to have actual constellations swirling through it, while his fur was a stunning white. Second, rather than a scorpion tail, he instead had three feathered tails. He also had what appeared to be antennae rather than horns. Finally, there was the obvious fact he was wearing battle armor. His companion, who looked decently feminine, looked a lot more like something from Earth. In her case, she looked an awful lot like an owl. Her feathers and body were a dark black, with two striking red eyes that made it clear that you never wanted to see her in a dark alley. Her arms doubled as long, feathered wings with white tips and she lacked shoes, yet her clothing consisted of what almost looked like a baggy hoodie, some sweatpants and a beanie.
"No," Leongar replied. In truth, he was just as bewildered as they were. He was not expecting to see humans onboard the ship. Looking over at Octavia, he saw she was just as confused. Finally, he shook his head. "Shall…shall we start over?"
"Yeah that sounds good," Numbuh 362 said with a nod before taking a deep breath. "I'm Numbuh 362 from Earth's Kids Next Door, I guess. And this is my friend Numbuh 60. Also, from Earth's Kids Next Door." For his part, Numbuh 60 just nodded. Rachel had always been better at defusing things than he was.
"I am Prince Leongar Celestar, formerly Numbuh 4.3 Light Years of both Nevolla's Kids Next Door and the former Supreme Leader of the Galactic Kids Next Door." Leongar said before nodding to his girlfriend.
"And I'm his girlfriend, Octavia Spestrio, otherwise known as Numbuh 8 Infinity of Niter's Kids Next Door and the former leader of Sector Alpha of the Galactic Kids Next Door," Octavia chimed in.
"Wait, you both were former members of those freaks!?" Numbuh 60 snapped, moving Numbuh 362 behind him and getting into a battle stance.
"Not the organization that captured you!" Leongar quickly said, throwing his hands up and letting his weapon clatter to the floor. "Listen, it is a long story."
"...Well, we don't have much of a choice, do we?" Numbuh 362 noted as she pretty much physically forced Numbuh 60 to stand down.
"To begin with, the Galactic Kids Next Door used to be a lot different," Octavia explained. "It was actually a peacekeeping organization, meant as a way for the best operatives to provide back up to Kids Next Door organizations that were struggling with too many evil adults or to help underdeveloped planets or civilizations that got overrun set up new KND organizations."
"That must be how Numbuh 0 revived the Kids Next Door!" Numbuh 362 suddenly exclaimed, realizing that some of the stuff Numbuh 1 had told her about his dad now made a lot more sense. She then noticed everyone was looking at her. "Long story about one of our heroes."
"I would love to hear the story!" Leongar earnestly said.
"Later, Leo," Octavia reminded him before jumping back into her own tale. "Leongar here actually comes from a long line of high ranking Kids Next Door operatives, so him becoming the next Supreme Leader was nothing shocking."
"You flatter me, Via," Leongar said with a grin, causing Octavia to huff and turn away. Leongar took that as a cue to continue the story. "Me, Via, as well as the other members of Sector Alpha were widely considered to be some of the best operatives from not only our planets, but the Galactic Kids Next Door as well. But good things can only last for so long and it all came crashing down due to someone known as Numbuh Aleph Zero."
"We overheard the guys who took us captive mention something about him," Numbuh 362 spoke up. "Mentioned something about him having this "big plan" or something like that. Let me guess, he was after power?"
"Indeed," Leongar replied with a nod, his happy attitude and expression having completely vanished. "You see, for whatever reason, Aleph Zero craved power and felt that adults were holding children back. I have no idea how he came to his conclusion, but he convinced himself, and several others, that adulthood was a disease that they could "cure" if they wiped out any planet where more than two thirds were adults. By the time we discovered what he was planning, he had managed to convince nearly a third of the operatives serving with us, as well as dozens more across other planets, that only he knew the truth. From there, the Galactic Kids Next Door shattered and fell into a messy civil war. In the end, we were able to win and we banished Numbuh Aleph Zero into a region of the universe we'd dubbed the unknown regions, since it had yet to be explored by anyone. Yet, I realize now that all I did was slap what amounts to a band-aid on the problem, since, if what you are telling me is the truth, he has returned."
"Crud," Was all Numbuh 60 could grunt out. This was somehow even worse than he thought, since there was no doubt Earth was now in massive danger as was everyone he and Rachel cared about.
"Listen, we have…a friend who was inducted into the Galactic Kids Next Door," Numbuh 362 began. She had a feeling she wasn't going to like this answer no matter what the two aliens told her. "Do you think…he's okay?"
"That…depends," Leongar responded, trying to figure out a way to tell her about what was likely happening. He honestly wished that Flarias was here. Her bluntness and lack of care for how others viewed her could really come in handy right about now. "If he fell into Numbuh Aleph Zero's line of thinking, chances are that he's physically fine, but has been mentally wrapped into a genocidal maniac who wants to wipe out planets to stop adulthood. If not…best case scenario, he's been imprisoned. Worst case scenario, he's been enslaved or worse…"
"Numbuh 1 would never let himself get killed!" Numbuh 362 internally repeated, trying to convince herself that he wasn't dead, since, even if he was now brainwashed by a cult leader (since that's pretty much what was going on), that meant he could still be saved.
"Er, what was he like?" Octavia asked once she picked up on Numbuh 362's inter turmoil. "Maybe if we had a little more info, we could tell you more about where he most likely ended up."
"He was utterly devoted to serving the Kids Next Door," Numbuh 362 began to explain, doing her best to keep from slipping into a wistful tone of voice. She did not need to be teased about a crush she most certainly did not have. "He'd put it above almost everything. The only things I think he viewed higher were his friends and family."
"Then…it could honestly go either way," Octavia noted. "If he's devoted as you said, then it would be easy for Numbuh Aleph Zero to trick him into his way of thinking. But if he truly cares for his friends…perhaps he's not completely brainwashed."
"That's good," Numbuh 60 said with a nod. "So there's still time."
"Indeed, but we will have to move fast," Leongar said as he moved to collect his weapon. "Once Numbuh Aleph Zero gets word that you two have escaped or that we are now aware of him being active again, he will no doubt begin putting his plans into action and I believe there's a high chance he plans to begin with your planet."
"So…what can we do?" Numbuh 362 asked as she grabbed her yield sign from out of the crate it had been locked in. It felt good to have it again.
"First things first," Octavia said with a grin. "I think it's high time for Sector Alpha to make a return!"
"I agree completely," Leongar said with a matching grin. "It's been a while since we've all fought together, isn't it?" He then turned to Numbuh 362 and Numbuh 60. "And would I be wrong to assume that you two wish to join us?"
"Totally," Numbuh 60 said with a salute. "Numbuh 60 at your service, your highness!"
"Please, no formalities!" Leongar requested in an almost embarrassed tone. "Either Leongar or Numbuh 4.3 Light Years is fine."
"It's been so long since people used the codenumbuh regularly," Octavia noted. "I actually kinda missed it."
"Well, if we're doing this whole 'no formalities' thing, I guess we owe you our real names," Numbuh 362 said. Since the two ex-Galactic Kids Next Door operatives had been so open to them, she felt it only far to return the favor. "My real name is Rachel Mckenize."
"If you need, you may refer to me as Patton Drilovsky!" Numbuh 60 chimed in with yet another salute, his fire having fully returned to him.
"Very well then! Patton, Rachel, please follow us!" Leongar declared as he used his poleaxe to point towards the door. As they walked, both humans flashed back to the fact their planet was in grave danger and only one thought was present…and it belonged to someone who's absence they were very much feeling.
"Fanny…hope you're doing okay without us."
Numbuh 86 was very much not okay.
After all, who's best friend and totally not boyfriend vanished on them without a trace!? No phone call, no message, no nothing! It's not like they had to get decommissioned! Rachel wasn't due for, like, two months! And that was on the very low chance she didn't get into the Teens Next Door. So Numbuh 86 was planning to smack them both once she found them.
But then things got weird.
For one thing, their trackers stopped working. That was supposed to be impossible. Those trackers had been able to work at the bottom of the ocean! How the heck were they not picking up Rachel and Patton's signals. Second was the fact that several other operatives were acting really fishy. Finally, the trackers had, briefly, picked up their signals in an old warehouse. This prompted a private investigation from Numbuh 86. Leaving her new second command in charge, she had headed off to the warehouse alone. A few people had offered to serve as her backup, but she was fine thank you very much!
"What happened here?" She asked once she stepped inside. A struggle had clearly taken place, going off of all the blaster fire marks covering the walls and floor. Yet the place was strangely empty. There had clearly been things present before, but not any more. Almost like it had all suddenly been packed up. Either way, she began to look around the room for any clues to her friends' whereabouts. Finally, she noticed something under a file cabinet. It was a folder with several papers and photographs in it. She opened it up and almost instantly, her eyes went wide. Clutching the folder, she rushed out. She had to tell Numbuh 5 now.
So, Numbuh 362 and Numbuh 60 have entered the story! I considered having Numbuh 86 join them, but decided it would be easier to have her come in later. Anyways, next time, you get to meet the other members of Sector Alpha! And two of them have already been named dropped! Any guesses as to who has what Numbuh? Let me know in the comments!
