A/N: This is another one of those chapters I've had all plotted out in my mind for months! This is a big one and the true climax to the Fall arc! Also, you may find something similar in another fic to this one, but instead of telling you now; I'd rather we address that at the end of the story. With that said, let's get right to it! This chapter is going to be a bit more heavy than usual, and you'll see soon why I say this.

Chapter 24

10/04

"...Inoue-san, are you sure this is wise?"

"I normally wouldn't ask you for such a thing. But Rise suggested it this morning when we got word that both of her two security guards for the party were plagued by this sudden illness."

"I understand that, but what's this about a party? Isn't it a bit too late for that?"

Souji seems to be discussing a usual topic with Inoue over the phone in a corner of the classroom as students are trickling out.

"It's for everyone in Takura Productions. Staff, the talent, and such. While we producers will be busy planning events for winter, we didn't want to stop the girls from having a day to simply enjoy themselves. While everyone will have their own staff to watch them and general security to keep an eye on things from the outside, Rise also needs someone to focus on her alone. You seem to make her comfortable, so Rise suggested you. And that you may know of someone who can serve as your partner."

"Parties aren't my thing, if I'm being honest. And while seeing some familiar faces like Kanami-san and her friends would be nice, I'm still unsure about this."

"You'll be paid for this, naturally. And who knows, it might be good on a resume for college. Playing security in a professional environment can maybe get you the edge over other applicants."

He raises a good point. That and the fact Takura Productions would owe him more than that… a direct show of faith from Inoue and the other higher ups could be beneficial. He isn't in this position for fun, that's for sure.

"...Alright. I think Rise wants me to ask Masato for this then."

"Likely so. She's booked all day so I believe she's entrusting this to you. Let me know if he cannot help. I'll begin searching for someone else if that's the case."

"Don't worry, Inoue-san. I think he'll be on board."

"Alright. The event is on Saturday night, starting at 8PM. I'll text you the coordinates for where you'll be meeting Rise. Don't worry about attire. You're not trying to stand out like security given your age."

"I had a feeling. I'll try to find some clothes fit for it, then."

"Wonderful! If all else fails, feel free to wear your dance costume. Rise will be in the same one since the girls will be taking turns singing songs to each other."

"As long as I don't have to dance again."

"Ahaha, don't worry, Souji-kun. I'll make sure she understands."

"Thanks, Inoue-san. I have practice to get to. I'll speak to you later."

"Of course. Take care."

It looks like Souji has been roped into another venture by Inoue and Rise. But if it's just a party, then perhaps that'll turn out well. In the mean time, best to call Masato now and see if he's up to the challenge.

Inside Kirijo HQ, in the underground training facility, Masato had just finished up another round of training, yet his expression was that of frustration.

"Hey, don't feel so down about it, man. We all don't start out so strong. We have to earn it." It was Akihiko speaking these words, who worked up a sweat at this point, his exposed abs glistening as he let his Cape go.

"I know. I just feel I'm not growing much at all. My Persona feels like it's stagnant. We just learned I have a sword, yet it's barely functional." Masato's body was lowered, the Impostor catching his breath between words.

"I understand how you feel, but let's just keep at it. You'll be strong enough soon. At the very least, you're getting more capable on your own. But something tells me punching isn't suited for Shadows with you. Maybe you'll need a weapon like everyone else." The man steps away to grab a bottle of water. As their conversation was about to continue, Masato's phone started ringing.

It's the perfect time considering their training was winding down, he rushes to the bench to grab and answer it.

"A-Yoshida speaking."

"It's me. You busy, Masato?"

"Souji? Nah, I can talk. What's up?"

Souji explains the situation Inoue just informed him about earlier. Masato, who usually was expected to be so surprised by such a situation, sounded like it was a trivial matter at this point.

"...We're getting paid for this, yeah?"

"So he says, but this feels a little too much for us."

"Well, if it's a private party, then it can't be that bad. At first, I was afraid it was one of those events where the biggest celebrities in Japan would gather! This seems like a small time event in comparison. I'm in."

"I'm surprised to hear you join so quickly.".

"If I didn't, I think Rise might come after me."

"Hah, I can see that happening." Souji chuckles briefly. "Well, I'll let Inoue-san know you're in. He should text you the address and any other details later. I need to let my mother know. And hopefully see if Father won't try to interfere this time."

"Okay. Well, good luck on that. I think I should be good no matter what."

"Good. Well, I'll see you then, Masato." Both of them hung up their phones, and Akihiko steps closer to inquire details. Or rather, brings up what he heard.

"So… a party, eh? Maybe you need a break."

"It's technically a job, so I'm not sure if that's entirely true."

"Heh, well, you can spend more time with that girl, at least."

"Oh, don't sound like Junpei, man. I already get enough flack from him."

"Haha, I'm just messing with ya. Personally, I got no time for that."

"Because you're always training!" Akihiko only laughs in response to Masato's callout. "Pretty sure you're out of the race for any relationship seeking."

"What can I say, I prefer the romance of seeing new things and taking on strong opponents, not that mushy stuff."

"To each their own. I guess we're done for today?"

"May as well. Seeing as you got this gig, it's best you rest up for it."

"Okay… then I'm gonna hit the showers before I go back to my room." With a deep sigh, he grabbed his things and made his way to the shower room. Something else came up in his mind that he could do to relax after a hard day's work. Yeah… he should get some practice in. It's been a hot minute.

A couple of hours pass in peace; and with a shower and meal afterward, the Impostor took it upon himself to enter his room… which was inside the building. Truth be told, he just took a small room and made it into a temporary home. Apartment searching was on hold due to the request from Rise for the LMB Festival. All that dancing practice just took up most of his time. Perhaps he should start apartment searching next week…

Regardless, he was finally back in his room… and of course, his guitar was resting and waiting to be played.

"Been a while, hasn't it? Let's get warmed up." Masato speaks to himself aloud, grabbing the neck of the guitar and taking a seat, leg lifted and his ankle resting on his opposite knee, the guitar using the horizontal calf as a way to keep it in position. With a guitar pluck in his hand, he started slowly strumming, getting a feel and tuning it to keep the strings from sounding too sharp or flat.

There. All good. Time to begin another attempt at learning how to play this thing well.

10/06

It was a cloudy afternoon with a chance for rain tonight. Souji arrived home early just to get dressed into something more appropriate. He and Masato opted to wear their dancing outfits since it's not like they're getting another chance after this. May as well go out with another bang. Homare approved of his one and done job, and while it took some convincing, considering this was an actual job, and it would push Takura Productions into being a part of Souji's resume, it was seen as a beneficial factor; one other teens his age will not have.

"I'm off."

"Good luck, Souji. Be safe and have fun."

"Mother, this is a job and nothing more." Souji made it obvious that he wasn't going for pleasantries.

"I know. Still, you should enjoy the opportunity all the same."

"Thanks, Mother. I need to hurry." Souji grabs his phone and quickly departs. He has no time for the intricacies of a diverse portfolio of skills and backgrounds. It's already almost seven. He had eaten dinner since he wasn't sure if there would be any food distributed at the event.

Now, he had work to do. Meeting up with Masato at the train station, the two prepare to depart. The one great thing about this event is that it was being held within Roppongi itself. It was actually a few blocks away from Rise's apartment. However, since she was getting dressed at Takura Productions, they had to go to the studio as Inoue had a driver planned to take all three of them together.

As all three were now gathered, it was thirty minutes until the party began. They should be able to make it on time, but it was going to be close.

The three chatted away in the car, Rise bringing up who will be there, from her generation, to maybe even a couple of older idols, her own Senpai of the Idol World. It was still a small party, but it was looking to be very fun!

The three are pulled up to the front of the building. It was clearly meant for events like this, so it might have been rented out for the night. The boys step out first with Rise coming out last. Thank god the press was unaware of this. Thanking the driver, the car heads off, leaving the three to enter the building together.

"Rise, how long is this party?"

"Hm… about three hours? We can technically go longer, but I doubt it will go much past that. We technically have a curfew, but as long as we're home in the morning, they won't mind for tonight." Rise answers Masato's question, the trio now standing before the door.

"Okay. Well, before we go in… is there anything else we should know? People to avoid?"

"Oh, it'll be fine, Masato-kun. Just stick to those you know. If anyone approaches you, just say you're a guest invited by me." It would be best to keep this informal party the way it is. Casual and purely for fun.

"Got it. Then I'm ready."

"And you, Senpai?"

"Honestly, I'd rather stand out here all night, but I'll go in."

"Heehee, you didn't mind Club Escapade last year." Masato looked more alert when he heard that name leave her lips. "Although I did kinda forget what happened after a while…"

"Probably for the best. They aren't serving alcohol here, right?"

"Uh-uh. It would be pretty bad if news broke that we were around that stuff." Rise quickly shook her head before readjusting her headset.

"Well, things should be fine. Shall we? I can already hear the music." It was getting louder. Looks like things were already getting into full swing.

"Mm. C'mon, you two. Let's have some fun!"

Rise takes the initiative, as usual, and pushes the door open, the blaring atmosphere abrasively swarms them, although she naturally found it welcoming. Stepping inside, the standard dance music was playing, the girls have not started singing for fun.

Upon their arrival, someone was quick to notice them, approaching from their side.

"Welcome to the party, Rise-senpai!" It was the friendliest member of the Kanamin Kitchen.

"Tomoe-chan? It's good to see you!"

"And you as well. My, you even brought two of your friends. The handsome one is Yukiko-san's boyfriend, Souji-san, yes?"

"That's me, yes." How did she know that?

"Ooh, and you brought the cute one. How are you, Masato-kun?"

"U-Uh… fine, Tomoe-san."

"Hmm…!" Rise was giving a glare to Tomoe. This guy is her target.

"Hmhm, it's cute seeing you so defensive, Rise-chan." It seems Tomoe was trying to get a good reaction on purpose. "C'mon, the other girls are scattered around, but you all should find a spot to claim for yourself." Tomoe took them along inside the open space. The lights were almost fully out, but the bright ones that were shining in beam shapes alongside the flashing lights made it easy for everyone to see one another well enough.

Following the Kitchen member, the three noticed all the girls, and few guys wearing either dance appropriate attire, much more revealing clothes, in-your-face accessories, and even some glow sticks bent into a necklace shape. All sorts of unique outfits were here to be seen. And a lot of skin was revealed.

"Here's a spot. Did you know we got plenty of drinks to enjoy? Non-alcoholic of course"

"Ooh, that's good! I'll probably be thirsty for some after dancing to a few songs." Rise exclaimed.

"Why not sing too? There's no schedule. Maybe you could sing us one of your songs or just sing another for fun. We're all here to get loose!" Tomoe smiles, eager to get into the groove herself.

"Ah, Rise-senpai!" The ditzy voice was a big tell to who this was.

"Kanami-chan! It's good see you too!"

"And you brought Souji-san and Masato-kun as well! It's good to see some of you here. You're welcome just as much as everyone else!"

"Thanks, Kanami-san. I'm happy to see you're doing better." Masato nods, Rise staring at his eyes from the side. She does recall he spent some time with her while the Investigation team was searching for Kanami's friends. This feeling wasn't jealousy… but she was very curious to learn what else happened while they were separated.

"I'm gonna sing the first song to kick this party off! Our Senpai suggested it, so, here I am!" And just like the others, she was wearing her orange costume. She was likely ready to dance too.

"I can't wait! Hopefully you all get a chance to sing your new song."

"Do you want to sing after me? I'd love to hear your singing, Rise-senpai!"

"Hm… sure! You guys won't mind that, yeah?"

"No, not at all." Souji shook his head, not against her enjoying herself in the slightest.

"Thanks!" While they were her security for the night, it was comforting to know they still wanted her to have a good time above all else.

"Well, we still gotta get things set up, so mind if I sit with you all?" Kanami asks, everyone all making it quite clear she's more than welcome to accompany them.

The group chatted away for minutes, Kanami taking her time enjoying being around everyone before realizing she was way late to start singing. While this wasn't a rigid schedule, their time was still precious and everyone deserved a turn!

Kanami sang one of her original songs, while Rise opted to cover a song she'd heard from an up and coming idol. A song called "SO MUCH MORE", with Kanami recognizing the song and pointing out her voice was so on point it was like hearing the actual idol who made that song singing it in person before them.

The time was past ten, and a young man handing drinks around the room had just brought a drink tray with three brightly colored beverages in glasses towards the trio.

"Watanabe-san ordered these for you and your friends, Rise-san."

"Watanabe-senpai? She's here? I thought she…?"

"She was invited as well. Although she was only here for a little while. She just arrived with her brother to see how the girls were doing before parting." The man explains, a chipper smile was on his face as each one of the trio grabbed a glass.

"Aww, I was hoping to see her again. She really helped me learn a lot about what being an idol is all about…"

"She seems to be very busy. Speaking of, if you'll excuse me…" It seems the man had more drinks to distribute around the room.

"Who's Watanabe, Rise?" Masato asks, Souji seemingly deep in thought as he took a deep sip from his drink after Rise gulped some of her own.

"Ah, she's a former idol. She was so smart and understood a lot of the industry pretty early on. But… she couldn't really establish a large enough fanbase to sustain herself. In early 2011 she retired quietly. I hear she's in college now, but I hope she comes back to the industry. I think she could make a killing as a manager. She might even be better than Inoue-san!" She giggles, her wink a sign she asks they keep that last part amongst themselves.

"I see. I can see why you feel that way…" He takes a sip from his drink, noting that it's very… sweet. Shaking his head, he continues. "She reminds me of how in the world of sports, sometimes players may not display as much talent or skill as the athletes that get all the recognition, but their IQ and understanding of the game makes them valuable as future coaches or veterans who help younger players learn even faster as they play. Perhaps Watanabe-san is something like that… where her knowledge can help other idols shine brighter than they could on their own."

"Yeah… that's what I think is best for her too…" Rise hiccups. "She's so cooool…"

"Um, Rise…?"

"Yeah, wassup…?" Her words are starting to slur.

"Whoa, what's going on…?"

"Oh no, not again…" Souji shook his head, his body feeling a bit lighter than before.

"What's that supposed to mean, Souji?"

"Last time, she drank and got drunk despite there being no alcohol. I think this is that same feeling again."

"Wha–!? I ain't drunk! Yur just bein' silly, Senpaiii… and you too, Masato-kun. Don't be such a worrywart… I'll forgive it just this once 'cause yur so cute…"

Masato took another sip of his drink, his body immediately putting a stop to that, like a safety valve was just twisted to shut down any attempt to drink any more. But once Rise called him cute, he almost dropped the drink.

"R-Rise…! That's a bit much, wouldn't you say?"

"Masato, pay it little mind. She's more unhinged like this. Let me see if we can get her home before anyone can notice–ugh!" Souji tried to stand but felt weak in his knees. His coordination felt weak. "What… I feel so weak…"

"Souji…" Trying to get up felt difficult for Masato as well. "What's going on…? Is it… these drinks?"

"I… remember drinking these before, but… were they always this sweet?" Souji recalls, but to no avail.

"Senpaiii… Masato-kuuun… what's wrong? Let's go dance this off… I'm ready for one more!"

"No way, Rise…! Something's up…" Masato tries to dissuade her from getting up. Thank god everyone was distracted by the Kanamin Kitchen singing. "It… these drinks, I bet. Ugh, that bastard must have spiked them…"

"This isn't alcohol, is it?" Souji asks.

"No way… we wouldn't all be this impaired from just one glass. Only Rise finished hers… fuck. We can't stay here…" Masato forces himself to stand, fighting the effects well since he only drank about a fourth of the glass. Souji downed about half of his. "Souji…! We need to get Rise out of here. There's a backdoor exit over there… maybe we can get out and take Rise to her apartment. It's only a few blocks away… and we should be able to cut through the alleyway to get her home unnoticed."

"Good thinking. Rise, are you ready? We'll help you walk…" Souji got himself to stand, adjusting his posture to help himself feel like he's upright.

"Uh-huh… I can… Ooh, no, you right… I don't feel so good now." Her head was slowly spinning. Now it seems some reason was getting through to Rise. "Help me up, guys…"

"C'mon… together, Souji." Masato was going to grab her on her right side, while Souji took her from the left. "Rise, get your arms around our necks. Don't worry. We'll get you home no matter what."

Good. No one has seen them. Best to sneak out and apologize later. Hopefully they can get in contact with Inoue once they drop her off in her bedroom. This may require medical attention.

Step by step, with an occasional step back, they make their way to the back exit. Excellent, this isn't one of those alarm based ones. This is likely for throwing trash out the back. As the door creaks open, the sound and scent of rain dropping rushes their senses… great, as if it can't get any worse.

"Damnit… let's try to power through the rain, Masato."

"I'm with you, Souji." The two sounded like a coordinated pair of pilots, stepping into the rain with Rise in tow. But looking to their right, they see a pair of young men across from them. One of them is… "It's that bastard!"

"Well, looks like he was right. You were gonna come out this way." He sharply whistles, the door parallel to Masato now closes shut on its own. No going back now. Someone else starts to come into sight. Perhaps this is what that whistling was for. To call him over. This person must have been watching the front entrance. "Glad you came this way. Saves us the trouble of having to hide you all from any passerbys."

"Who the hell are you, assholes? Masato's gaze grew fierce while struggling to keep himself and Rise upright.

"I knew you'd be here, pretty boy… And you… I recognize you too…"

"Wait, are you…?" Souji recognized that voice quickly. How could he not? This was someone he sees almost daily!

"And you said you weren't with her, yet you're sharing her with a guy! Guess you were half-right. She's just a fucktoy to you! I see how it is."

"Susumu!"

The figure was in the street light's glare, his face now visible for all three to see.

"Yeah, it's me. I was afraid when I first spotted you here, but now… you ain't so tough. Katashi ain't here to save you… but you aren't who I want."

"Who is this asshole, Souji?"

"He's my classmate… and he really hates Rise. Susumu Watanabe…"

"Wata… nabe…? Wait, is he the brother of-!?"

"Oh, you finally realized it, eh? That's right, I'm Asuka Watanabe's little brother! And I'm here to ruin the girl who ruined her career!"

"...Masato-kun… it's him. It's the guy from… the other day…!" Rise's eyes were still from fear.

"...Yeah, it's that guy…! You're the asshole who stalked Rise in the Junes nearby!" Masato grit his teeth. "You came back to harm her again?"

"Easy there, dude. I ain't here to deal with you or your pretty boy friend. I just want the girl. Give me Rise-chan for five minutes, and we can all be on our way."

"What the fuck do you have planned for her?"

"Oh, I ain't planning on what you're thinking. Sure, she's cute, but I hate her too much. And that's way too far. I got something more… fitting in mind." Susumu adjusts his glasses as one of the guys beside him pulls out a camera.

"A camera…?"

"Yeah. Look at her, she looks so wasted. Wouldn't it be funny if after just escaping a scandal, she gets in hot water again looking like she just drank half of Tokyo's vodka supply? The Press will have a field day with it… just like last time."

"Last time…? No…"

"Oh, yeah. I'll let you all in on a little secret. I'm the one who took that picture and submitted it to that Tabloid. Got a hefty amount of cash too."

"YOU BASTARD!"

"What are you gonna do about it, dude? Kick my ass? You don't look capable of beating up a five year old with a hand tied behind his back." Souji found Susumu's bravado offputting. He was never this smug before. When he was angry last time, he was bitter, but now… he seems so overconfident. "Don't even try to run… we'll chase you down. We just want the girl. We don't have to harm you guys. I promise you… we want nothing more than to ruin her little career. At least she can keep her life."

"Her life…?" Souji mutters. "Being an Idol is her life! I won't let you take that away from her."

"Hah… and for a second, I thought the other dude was dating her. Aren't you dating that red girl?"

"...!" How did he know Yukiko? He never mentioned that to him. Katashi and Ayame would never speak of that to him.

"Maybe I should make this clearer, then… let her go or I will do more than just ruin her life… I'll ruin all of yours too."

At that moment, both Souji and Masato came to the same conclusion. The time for words was over.

"...Rise. Can you stand against the wall for a moment on your own?" Masato asks her, hoping she can clearly understand what his intentions are.

"Rise… if it looks like we might fall… I want you to run back home as best as you can. And call for Inoue-san."

"Senpai… Masato-kun… please, don't…"

"Rise. I won't fall. We won't fall. We're going to kick their asses and make sure they never harm you." Masato spoke with such determination.

"Yeah. He's right. We'll make sure they learn their lesson."

"Mm… okay." Rise offered a dim smile of gratitude. Masato moves her on his own having her lean up against the wall and barstool left outside.

All they could hear were the raindrops, the muffled music coming from their right, and the snide laughter of the guys before them.

"You done dressing up?" One of the guys beside Susumu spoke up. "We all got our beef with that bitch, so let's get this over with."

"Souji." Masato wobbled into position, his body stiffening up from the adrenaline that was kicking in. Which will win? The drugs in his system or the rush of real combat. This feeling… is all too familiar to him.

"Yeah. I'll be counting on you. You're more coordinated than me." Souji got into a ready position, his strength definitely felt fleeting. This felt like a battle against Shadows… the only difference is that he doesn't have Personas to lean on. Literally or metaphorically.

"Then let's kick their fucking asses!" Masato seethed, fists up, just like Akihiko trained him. Despite his blurring vision, he could still distinct who was who. But this aggression… was unlike anything Souji and Rise have seen.

Souji's perception was faring better, but his limbs felt less cooperative. It's not like they wouldn't move on command, but precise movements and specific placements… that may be what makes or breaks him in this situation.

"Haha, you think you can beat us? Fine, then. Don't come crying to me when you're pasted all over the pavement! Let's get'em, boys!"All three spiteful boys charge at the two who chose to stand their ground for Rise's safety.

Susumu charged for Souji, the target he's always wanted to take a swing at, while the other two sought after the Imposter's head.

Souji had never been in a street fight, but he fought for his life many times last year while in Inaba, and it served him well to open this up. His body being so loose helped dodge the lunging punch Susumu made, with a chance to strike back being clear; but Souji's punch barely connected with little impact. Souji scoffs at his own weakened state. In peak condition, that might have been a knockout punch directly to his face, but it just grazed the back of his head.

Masato had two guys going for him, with the duo likely trying to get past him to get to Rise, who was looking from a modestly safe distance. He made sure to keep his dukes up, and both in sight of him at all times. And sure enough, only one of them attacked first, Masato dodges, and opts for faster, lighter punches that won't be knockout hits, but will definitely stack the pain against them.

"Ya call that a punch, ngh!" The young man mocks his attacks, yet he struggles to connect with his own fists.

"You're just the warm-up right now!" Masato remarks, dodging just how Akihiko taught him. His Rushing style was best to thin out the competition.

"Keep him there, man! I'll go for Rise!"

"No you won't!" Masato dashes forward, opting to hit the other straight in the face with three consecutive punches.

"Stay still, you prick!" The two realize Susumu was right to have them deal with him. He's quite the pest, zooming around like an agile boxer. 'Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee', as they say.

On Souji's side, Susumu just struck him against his shoulder, Souji failing to get his arm up in time to block or redirect it.

"Sucks that I had to hit you with the drugs, but it's what you deserve for believing in a tramp like her!"

"You never shut up, do you?" Souji repositions himself in place, going for a straight right hand punch; Souji was able to turn with the punch and get some power in, hitting Susumu on the side of the face and making the snake slither back.

"Ugh, you prick! Hey, one of you back me up here! We can beat Souji up faster together!"

After Susumu called out for aid, one rushed to his side, leaving Souji, the weakest link at the moment, facing a very lopsided situation. If Souji goes down, Masato cannot handle all three at once. He needs to take this guy out now!

Masato blocked a punch with his arm, but was pushed up against the wall.

"Hah, you ain't so tough!" The young man saw this as an opportunity to take the less doped up of the two down, all by himself too! "Take this, you prick!" Going for a straightforward punch to his face, Masato let him get close enough before moving to his right, letting the thug's charging fist fly straight into the brick wall. "Argh!" His hand immediately pulls back, "Did I break something-!?" But before he could try to shake it off, Masato immediately capitalized. Zooming right across from him, Masato grabs the delinquent by his right arm, the one he just hurt against the wall, while the Impostor's left hand goes up where his opponent's upper back and neck connect; with a firm grip, he forces the stubborn teen into the wall face-first. If getting hard hits is an issue right now, then he'll take advantage of the environment! And a brick wall is always consistent with the pain it can give. Not finished with the thug yet, however, Masato pulls him some steps back, letting go and getting a couple of feet worth of distance, before stepping quickly and delivering a kick to the back of his opponent's knee. "Gragh!" He found himself falling fast, hitting the back of his head against the pavement and passing out instantly. Hopefully it won't be anything serious in terms of long-term damage. But enough of this clown, Souji's facing an overwhelming situation. With one glance at Rise, she was still safe, but her eyes were focus on Souji, with fear clearly visible from those windows to the soul.

When Masato turned to see Souji, he was only blocking attacks from them. It looks like he even took a punch to the face. Masato went for Susumu's remaining ally. Getting behind him, he grabs his shoulder and spins him to face the Imposter, following it up with a strong right to the face.

"I'm your opponent, you bastard!" Masato declares, letting Souji face his classmate alone.

Souji had just this one person to deal with… the one responsible for all this slander and misinformation spread about Rise. The one who was willing to violate Rise's state of being just to get his personal vengeance.

"Let finish this, Susumu…!" His fists were raised. Souji craved Susumu's defeat.

"I'll knock you flat, pretty boy! And then, I'm going to avenge my sister!"

Susumu made his move! Going to Souji's left, he forced the Wild Card to move in a circular pattern, but now he has him!

Susumu rushed for a deciding uppercut! Souji pulled back the second he realized what Susumu's incoming attack was. Trying to step back was difficult, but angling his body back without falling was even harder. But it was just enough. With centimeters to spare, he just avoided his classmate's dangerous attack. And now, Susumu was wide open for a counter!

Left Hook! Souji hits him from the side, hitting the liver area, and down goes Susumu! As fast as his attacks were, Souji put all he had into hitting the weak spot all people have. A wise lesson he learned from Chie has come up clutch. Susumu only groaned, unable to move. Believing Susumu was down and out, the Leader turns to see his friend still taking on the remaining thug. His eyes feel heavy; and his sense of balance is getting harder to maintain. This can't go on for much longer.

Masato was also feeling it now. Hard carried by adrenaline, the Impostor found blocking more difficult. Whatever was in his drink… his body was adapting to it well. But even so, the hits he's had to block and directly took… the damage is piling up. Despite his efforts, his guard breaks and he takes a punch just on the edge of his forehead.

With grit and a grin, he strikes back with a throat chop. A dirtier attack, yes, but it isn't like these guys were playing fair.

"Go down, you!" Capitalizing on his hesitation, Masato delivers blow after blow, rapid fire punches to the delinquent's face while he had a foot over his own opponent's to keep him locked in place, finishing it with one last punch that causes his opponent to collapse on his back.

They won. The three who set them up to fall are the ones who actually went down. Masato sighed deeply, the rain feeling refreshing at this point, as it was proof he still kept his sense of touch; the numbing pain feeling like it was nothing worth being concerned about. Rise's well being mattered more.

Living in the here and now… what a rush! The Imposter hasn't felt this empowered in quite some time.

As Masato turned his head to see Souji look directly at him… someone was behind him.

"Souji, look out!"

But it was too late. Souji was struck in the back by Susumu, who clenched his hands together and brought them down, hitting the top of Souji's spine.

"Fuck you all! You're going down, Riseeee!" His eyes looked even more fierce, as if something forced him back up. Dashing for the idol, she screamed out,

"Masato-kun, help…!" Rise called out for the last friend standing; and like a bolt of lightning, he appeared behind Susumu, grabbing him by the caller of his shirt. Susumu's hands reached out to grab Rise, but he was just a foot away from completely reaching her.

"You…! How did you…?"

"You're scaring Rise…!" With all he had, he twisted the clothing he held onto and forced Susumu to hit the wall shoulder first.

"Argh! Bastard-!"

"I'm not done with you….!" Turning him in the other direction, he pushed Susumu forward, churning along with him to have his back against the opposite building's wall.

"How are you fighting so well? I know you drank some of that-!"

"I've dealt with my fair share of that shit. Next time get some stronger stuff!"

Masato delivers a strong right to Susumu's face.

"Agh! Fuck you, man! Why are you protecting that tramp-!"

"That's my friend you're talking about, asshole!" Masato delivers a left jab again and again, aiming for Susumu's liver. But when that contact was made, Susumu's body felt heavy. He was shutting down for another moment and he was to fall over, but Masato kept his forearm against his chest. "You're not allowed to fall until I say so!"

"Agh… you… I'll kill you….!" Susumu declared, trying to act tough in a futile act of resistance. Rise flinched when she heard those words thrown around like that. Souji, who was struggling to get up, also found it unsettling. The two know the subject of death and its serious nature all too well. But this… triggered something deep within Masato. His eyes have never looked so fierce, with a grin and wheezing laugh being seen and heard by all.

"Hahahaha… kill me? You? You think is a fucking game!?" Easing off his forearm, he instead held Susumu by the throat with his bare hand!

"Masato…!" Souji calls out, but it goes ignored.

"You think those words are something you can say like it's nothing? You probably have never had to attempt to take someone's life! You ever seen life fade from a person's eyes!? For them to beg for mercy!? No… you're just a stupid kid trying to tell himself he's doing good in the world…!" Masato winds up his arm and punches Susumu in the face.

"Masato-kun…!"

"You…. Bastard…!" Susume spits at Masato's face.

"You're not gonna stop are you? Whose to say you won't try this again? Or worse…? I should beat you senseless… so you can finally understand what it means to say those words so casually…. And so you can learn not to harm my friends."

"You… wouldn't…!" Was it finally sinking in? Susumu's throat felt tight.

Another punch streaks across his face.

"Agh! O-Okay…! I'm sorry… please, let me go…!"

"You fucking coward! Where's that smug attitude now!? Huh!?"

"Masato… that's enough!"

"You will not harm her. You will not harm her… ever. Again." The rush was coursing through him. These words… the doped effect inside his body… they awakened something within him. Something he hasn't felt in years…! This new side was something Souji or Rise had never seen before. But it left them shaken.

'Get up. Have to get up'…. These thoughts were all Souji could hear in his mind. Rise tried to move to Masato to stop him.

"No…! I'll leave her alone…. I promise!" Susumu was panicking. His tone was back to his passive self, like before all this drama with Rise had begun. But Masato was winding up one more punch! The punch that could knock him out… but with his grip feeling tighter, who knows if that's where it will stop! All Susumu could do was cry out in fear from that possibility starting to feel more likely, "...Mercy!"

When he heard those words… Masato stopped. Susumu was screaming out in raw fear, now being tossed to the floor and realizing that Masato had let go. Souji sighed in relief; Masato didn't cross the line you can't come back from. Rise stood still to save herself from falling in her attempt to rush over.

"If I ever… see you again. If I hear you plan to harm Rise… or any of our friends for that matter… there is no god on this Earth who can save you from me. Do you understand, Susumu?"

"Y-Yeah! I promise…! No more! I-I'll own up to it all!"

"Good… now smile for the camera." Masato pulled his phone out, unphased by the rain. He took a picture of Susumu's beaten face. The alley light helped him get a good shot. "I'm not gonna report you to the cops. But I am going to let Takura productions know who you are and what you did. You won't ever be able to get this kind of opportunity again."

"I-I… but my sister."

"As long as she didn't know about this… I'm certain they'll still accept her. But you… you are the one who won't let go."

"Let… go?"

"He's right, you know. Katashi told me why you hate Rise." Souji stepped into Susumu's limited line of vision. "Why do you think she is in college to be an instructor?"

"Because it's all she can do with the skills she has! Rise stole her opportunity in the spotlight! Her dream is dead!"

"While she can't be an idol anymore… do you think that means she won't be able to contribute to the idol industry still?"

All Susumu could do was gasp in response.

"You Dumbass…" Masato scoffs at Susumu's failure to realize her resolve. "Even as an outsider to this situation, I can tell she isn't settling for anything. She's so wise to how the industry works and how to teach idols all the important things. Rise learned from her!"

"What…!? That's… impossible! Big sis never told me…!"

"More like you probably didn't want to hear it, I bet."

"Susumu… you misunderstood everything." Rise limps forward, Masato quickly turning and moving towards her to be her crutch. "Watanabe-senpai… didn't see me as 'stealing her spotlight'. When she saw me starting to grow… she taught me so much and it helped me grow even faster. Too fast, I'd say. But… she never once got upset with me. She helped all her Kouhai…"

"What…!?" Susumu had his own truth… and it was completely skewed to believe what he wanted. From a certain point of view, Rise did take away her senpai's opportunities to become a professional idol at the highest level. But his Big Sister didn't see it that way at all. She saw it… as a way to do more than just live her dream. She found joy in helping others.

Susumu… couldn't help but cry. The foolish boy's sobbing rang around the alley. "Wh… What have I done…!? Big Sis…! I can't face her anymore…!"

"Susumu… talk to Watanabe-san. And ask for her perspective. And listen well." Souji spoke bluntly. "I agree with Masato, however… stay away from Rise. Or you will hear from me too. I won't tell Katashi. But you should apologize to him too."

"Souji… Rise… I…!"

"Get those guys up. You three wouldn't want to catch a cold." Despite Masato saying this, it's clear he also needed to practice what he preached. "Let's go. Souji… grab onto Rise. We gotta hurry to her home, double time."

"Right. Ready, Rise?"

"Mm. Thanks, you guys."

"W-Wait! What do I do…? She won't… love me anymore if I tell her…!" Susumu, still on his hands and knees, calls out for aid on his newfound conflict.

"You won't know that until you try." Souji shook his head as he got Rise's arm around his shoulders. "But you should tell her anyway. You need to face her… and yourself if you want to learn and grow from this." Susumu's vision clears up, despite his glasses falling off long before the fight even ended. Sobbing louder, the two standing boys take Rise along… going the opposite direction of the three who were defeated, trying to not get spotted by anyone who might be passing along the sidewalks or anywhere else people might be. Considering her outfit… it will be pretty easy for her to get spotted. All the three could do was be careful, but also quick. They were absolutely drenched at this point.

Passing through a street with cars waiting for the signal light to turn green, they were halfway there. And at the very least, there would be no other reason to pass by cars. Cutting through a backstreet, they found no one else lurking around before Rise's apartment started to come into view.

"There it is! Rise, that's it, right?" Souji asks for clarification, only for Rise to nod passively, keeping her head down.

"As soon as we get into her place, we need to find some towels to dry off." Masato remarks, expecting these dance clothes to be beyond redemption once things settle down. Rushing forward, they ignore any possible people's sights as they enter her apartment's entrance. And they were in luck, it seems the front desk person was out for the moment. "Rise… what floor are you on?"

"Eighth Floor… Room 806."

"Okay, I think I can see an elevator sign down the hall. Let's hurry." Masato urges the two to follow along, understanding that despite how weak they're feeling now that things are calming down, they're almost at the end. Just a little bit further to go and they'll be home free!

Rise's flashy outfit is such a dead giveaway. Souji will definitely need to call ahead to Inoue to let the staff know what they might be seeing on the camera feeds isn't anything nefarious. Given Rise's state, anyone could assume the worst without any context, after all. These thoughts gave Souji pause as they boarded the elevator. It won't be long until they reach the 8th floor.

"Rise. Are you feeling okay?" Souji asks with concern in his voice.

"Yeah… We're almost there, so I'm not scared anymore." Rise forces a smile, trying to put the boys at ease. Before either could say anything in response to that, the dinging noise from the elevator caught their attention as it came to a halt, the doors opening seconds later. Almost there.

Going down the hallway, they pass by each room. 803… 804… 805… 806. There it is.

"Rise, do you have your key?" Masato asks as he lets go of her, the three now before the door.

"Mm, it's in my skirt pocket." Rise fishes it out of her pocket, pulling it by its lonesome. "I can… open it." She's really feeling weak. All that's happened, and with no real chance to rest. She gets the door to open, but stumbles on the door frame once it starts to peak open.

"Rise!" Both pull her up by her arms, but now they too are starting to feel the exhaustion. The adrenaline was long gone; fast building exhaustion was starting to hit them. Souji felt it akin to the status ailment that was a thing in the TV World. The men help her inside and close the door quickly.

The door on their left upon entering her apartment was peaking open. It was the bathroom!

"Shoes off…! Souji, the bathroom is there. Let me see if there are towels inside."

"Right. Rise, hold on. We'll get you something to dry off and then we can call Inoue-san."

"Mm, okay…" Rise kicked off her heels. Thankfully, they were not strapped to her like normal heels usually are.

Masato hurried into the bathroom once his shoes were taken off. It didn't take long for him to find four towels. Grabbing them all with haste, he steps back out, feeling a stinging pain in his leg. It was the same one he used to kick one of Susumu's allies. And his body all over for that matter started to have some building pain. He could only imagine what Souji is feeling since he got it worse.

"Here. Let's dry off. We cannot get sick from this." He hands both of them a towel, Rise now leaning up against the closed shoe closet, across from the large mirror on the opposite end. The boys shuffle their jackets off of their bodies and place them on the coat rack.

"Thanks. I'm gonna be honest, you two… I'm not sure what to do once we get Rise some help. If my parents found out about this… you bet my Father is going to come after Takura Productions."

"Yeah… And then there may still be an investigation. If it makes headlines… I'm not sure if–Rise!" Masato lunges down, catching the falling Rise into his arms. "Souji! Can't stand… help me up…!" He was down on one knee. His body was starting to feel the effects of whatever it is that was in his drink.

"Damn…!" Souji lowered himself, knowing it's hard enough on him to get back up, but mustering what willpower he had left. It was then that he realized. If that fight dragged on for a few more minutes… there's no telling how they would have turned out. Still, the two guys get Rise standing, but her eyes remain closed. "Hey, is she…?"

"I can feel her breathing. I think she just fell asleep. Quick, let's get her to her room." He was still holding onto her, alongside the towel she dropped and his own. "Ugh… I dunno where it is… we need to find it soon."

"Ugh… Masato… I'm feeling lightheaded too. Let's hurry." Souji's vision was blurring. "Just tell me where to walk and I'll follow."

"Damn… okay. Let's go to the living room. It should be in sight once we get deep enough inside. Let's walk forward." Masato instructed Souji, carrying the passed out Idol in each arm. As every step inched them along, Masato felt like he was carrying more weight on his shoulder. Souji was almost starting to drag his feet. "Okay, let's see…" Masato was close to the large white couch that was on one side of the living room, with the opposite end having the kitchen and a little bar with stools, likely doubling up as a dinner table.

"Masato… Is that a sofa?" Souji could make it out as his eyelids grew heavy.

"Y-Yeah… what about–?" Before he could finish his question, Souji breaks off and drags himself straight into the couch, collapsing with a heavy thud.

"Sorry…. Call Inoue… I can't stay awake… any long…" Souji's eyes close for good, his words trailing. He's knocked out cold.

"Fuck…" Masato sighs, now having to carry Rise by himself. That wasn't the problem though. What will happen once he runs out of steam? He's already going on fumes right now. And still no sign of the bedroom door. Time to retrace his steps. He can't allow Rise to sleep on the floor… and a chair won't be appropriate either.

Spotting a door back the way he came that was next to what appears to be the toilet room, he opens it with his right hand, placing the towel he held onto on his shoulder. Once he steps in and turns on the light… It's a closet! A pretty big one too! This is big enough to be a cheap, small apartment! But there was another door and it was open… a bed! He can see the edge of a bed!

"There it is. Almost there, Rise… hang in there…" He could hear soft groaning coming from her. Was she still conscious? Or at least aware enough of her surroundings? No time to think about that. Masato presses on with slow and heavy steps.

His body was really feeling it now. The fatigue was building up fast, his feet feeling like there were concrete shoes underneath them.

"Ugh… we're here. Rise… let's get you to bed." He steps onto one side of the bed, letting the towels drop onto her pillow. "Forgive me for this…" Masato needs to lay her down properly in one shot. Taking a deep breath, he picks up Rise like a bride and gently places her on the other side of the bed. That was something he wasn't expecting, but it was necessary. "There…" Another deep breath, they're starting to feel heavy now. He pulls up a blanket to cover up to her chest. Now, he needs to find somewhere. He doesn't care at this point. The carpet will do. As he starts to twist his body… it starts to shut down against his will.

"No…! Not now…!" His hands sink into the soft mattress, tempting him like it's a succubus of pure comfort. No! He can't do that. That's… inappropriate! But as he put everything he had into trying to stand up straight once more. A trembling voice makes its way to him.

"Masato-kun… don't… I'm scared…" Her eyes weren't open, but it sounded like she was calling out to him in her dream.

"R… Rise…" His vision is wavering. He can barely make her out by her recognizable locks of hair, but… all of his sight begins to go black… and a soft thud is all he can hear as silence overtakes him.

A/C: So the first thing you may have noticed is that this too is familiar to a scene from Vocarin's fic. Again, I also asked for his permission to go off of this idea, but I like to think I went in a different enough direction to not call it plagiarism, and I have their blessing too. Now, in regards to Susumu; his arc isn't technically over. We're going to see him again someday. But not for a while. Did you all enjoy the fight? A 2v3 with the two Persona users may feel like a stomp for the duo, but considering what was affecting them, it was a lot more close. As for whatever it is that fucked them up, you'll have your answer for that soon. Nothing dangerous, though. I have lines I don't want to fully cross. Anyway, we ended this on a cliffhanger, so the aftermath is next.

Today's Musical reference is "Rockstar" by N.E.R.D.. Feels obscure by today's standard but I remember hearing this song in True Crime: Streets of LA. and it's a banger for a fight scene.

Everyone's down but at least they're safe. But how will they handle what tomorrow brings? And what is Rise scared of? Why is Masato so... different when he was in that fight? His Origins will start getting peeled away, bit by bit. We'll have answers in the next one!
